Need Recommendations for Guardian Ad Litem

Hey I need some recommendations from anyone who knows any GALs in the area. Any good or terrible experiences they can share? A lot of people don’t have an online presence so it’s hard to do proper research.

I appreciate your time!

Local galleries?

I’m an artist who has been recently encouraged by people who buy my art on Etsy to look into also selling my stuff in galleries. Does anybody know of local galleries that are open to artists coming to them? I mean, I could just cold call or email every local gallery I find online, but I’m not sure that’s the best approach. 🤣

New to the area and I need help finding social groups to join. I am struggling a bit.

I am 38 yr old male if that matters. Started a new work from home position that was a little unexpected. Working from home is great but it’s been really lonely, especially during the holidays. And I have a little social anxiety when I am by myself going out to places. I’m very social, have lots of friends back home in bama, and graduated from Auburn. I use to not have a problem finding people to hang with, and I’m a very easy going and likeable guy, but it’s more difficult at this stage in life for whatever reason. I have lived in Bham and Pensacola and had friends or family there so this is the first place I have lived where I don’t know anyone. I’m a little embarrassed making this post but this week was a hard one for me so I hope I can get some ideas from here and find a good group or place to meet people. Thank you for any responses.

Pizza Joints

What are the decent joints to get pizza in town?

I know Cerrone's, where else? Doesn't necessarily need to be an exclusively pizza place either.

River Center Gingerbread Village

Does anyone know if the Gingerbread Village is open on weekends outside of tomorrow morning? The website gives weekday hours and says weekends and evenings before performances. I'd like to go but I'm not really available during the weekday hours and I was thinking about doing a Christmas themed evening including that and the Botanical Garden.

Reminder! - Dec 14, 2nd Saturday of the month trash clean up at Lakebottom Park

Hi! I was asked to provide a reminder for this! u/pennedit :) I have added changes/additions to the bottom.

The following is a copy & paste from my original post

Who? Anyone!

What? Monthly trash cleanup

When? 2^(nd) Saturday of every month from 8-10AM, start on Dec 14. I chose that time because it’s a small-time commitment and the task would be knocked out first thing in the morning.

Where? Lakebottom Park – rotating sites when needed. The creek at Lakebottom has a lot of trash in it. Meet at the band shell.

Hi! I am starting a two-hour trash clean up on the second Saturday of every month starting on Dec 14 from 8-10AM at Lakebottom Park. I spent a few hours picking up trash in the creek last month, but it could use more attention. I bought pull on rubber boots from Academy for around $30ish that work well. The other areas that need some attention are around the curbs and walking paths, which is mostly small things like cigarette butts, candy wrappers, straws, etc. All the curb drains around the park dump into the creek.

Why am I wanting to do this and so should you? The creek flows to the Chattahoochee, then onward to the ocean. Trash can be toxic and dangerous to animals and the environment. Animals can get tangled up in it or injured, or mistaken it for food, which can lead to choking/health issues/death. Also, it isn’t fair that animals must live amongst our trash.

The cleanups won’t have a large impact but at the end of the day, it is still a reduction of trash that could be harmful, it could inspire others to pick up trash or be more mindful about throwing it on the ground or leaving it unsecured, and that piece of trash you pick up could save an animal’s life!

As for supplies, please bring your own trash bags. I would recommend bringing nitrile gloves and wearing them under cut resistant gloves, and rubber boots if you want to get in the creek.

If you would like to join me, have any questions or comments, please comment on this post or send me a PM 😊

Changes/additions: from the original post above:

  1. A limited number of trash bags and nitrile gloves (L and XL) have been donated! I will leave those at the band shell, on the side closest to the path.
  2. The main focus is the creek, so please bring waders or rubber boots. If you don't feel comfortable getting in the creek; there is still plenty of trash in the street, which drains into the creek! No matter what, your participation is appreciated by caring people and nature!
  3. Afterwards, please leave your trash bags next to the trash can that is closest to the Cherokee Ave/Poplar Dr. intersection. It is next to the path that is the one that leads from the street to the band shell.

Also, please let me know if you have any suggestions on how I could improve future posts!

Thank you!

Police hot as hell in Columbus ain't it?

I'm from Birmingham, AL visiting to train for a job. I haven't seen this many police in years. Seems there is one on every corner.

Welcome to the Fountain City's weekly discussion post! A place for anything you'd like to talk about or ask, but don't want to make a post for.

It's also our virtual yardsale, where you may connect with someone nearby who may want what you don't. Including a picture of what you are trying to part with improves those chances. Please keep in mind the rules and tips in this link.

Bday weekend in Pine Mnt

Hanging with friends in Pine Mountain. Heading up Fri and leaving sun.

Where are the best places to stay? Looking for a cabin - either in Pine Mountain, Warm Springs or around those areas.

What should we do? We’re good with staying in or going out if there is stuff to do around. We plan on doing a short hike but anything else? Nature or city wise.

TYIA!

Anyone connected to anyone who is in IT or Cybersecurity who is open to having a part time or full time intern join them? I have about a year left of school and I’m looking for any possible internship or co/op. I have been applying but getting no luck. I do have a good GPA (3.6) and a few certifications.

Does anyone know what happened to traffic on 185 South?

As usual, the local news has nothing. I passed the Buena Vista exit heading south at around 3:20. When I headed back north about an hour ago, traffic heading south was stopped clear back to Macon. At least 5 emergency vehicles passed. I'm guessing an accident where construction at Buena Vista bottlenecks traffic, but I hope everyone is okay. Be safe everyone! Holiday drivers have no chill!
