Help finding a place to eat on Valentines Day?

Sooooo, my boyfriend (37) and I (32) are relatively new to Columbus. We haven't gotten the chance to try much or get out much. He's taking us mani pedis earlier in the day, but we don't know where to go for dinner in the evening. Does anyone have any suggestions for good places to eat for valentines day either in Columbus or in a surrounding area. It doesn't need to be the fanciest (but it certainly can be). We just want some really good food. Any suggestions would be super appreciated! Thank you in advance šŸ¤

Helicopter traffic on North end

Does anyone know why there seems to be so much helicopter traffic in North Columbus today? Iā€™ve seen the same chopper moving fast and low across the area at 4 different times, this morning.

Reminder: Next Saturday is the 2nd Saturday of the Month Litter Cleanup! 02/08 at Dinglewood Park (again)!

Who?Ā Anyone!

What?Ā Monthly litter cleanup

When?Ā 2^(nd)Ā Saturday of every month from 8-10AM, Next one 02/08/2025

Where?Ā Dinglewood Park (1660 13th St. Columbus, GA 31901). There is still a lot of trash in the creek.

Hi! My name is David! This is a monthly litter cleanup sponsored byĀ Chattahoochee River Conservancy (CRC). These cleanups will take place on the 2nd Saturday of every month from 8-10AM, rain or shine. Cleanup sites may change each month based on need. I am going to start an email distribution list for reminders, updates, and a means to contact me; please comment on this post or send me a PM with your email if you would like to be included.

First, please go to my car (Subaru Outback, white) and fill out a waiver that's inside the clipboard. Only need the date, signature, and email (if you wanted to be included in an email distribution for future cleanups). Then, grab a 5gal bucket and nitrile gloves. Grabbers will be available as well. When the bucket is full, please empty it in the trash bag next to my car. This is to reduce the amount of bags partially filled. In the past, a lot of bags were only a quarter full. I recommend bringing cut/puncture resistant gloves and rubber boots or waders, if you plan on getting in the creek. Before you leave, please bring the supplies back to my car and stick around for a group picture and to see the weight of the trash we removed!

Why are we doing this? To reduce the amount of litter in our waterways, to protect the environment, and to protect the animals! Litter can be toxic or dangerous to animals and the environment. Animals can get tangled up in it, injured, or mistaken it for food, which can lead to choking/health issues/death. Also, it isnā€™t fair that animals must live amongst people's trash. By picking up litter, it could inspire others to pick up litter or be more mindful of throwing it on the ground or leaving it unsecured, and that piece of litter you pick up could save an animal's life!

Last Month's Cleanup:

Site:Ā Dinglewood Park (1660 13th St. Columbus, GA 31901)
Participants:Ā 4!
Cleanup#Ā 2!
Amount of litter removed:Ā 74.2 lbs!
Total since starting the monthly cleanup:Ā 137.1 lbs!

Where to drop off a broken washing machine?

A friend of mine has a broken washer she needs help getting out of her apartment when she moves. She's saying we could take it to a scrap yard or something but I've just never done this. What's the best way to dispose of it?

30 Day Ban on Political Topics

Hey y'all,

The mods have decided to put a ban on political topics for the next 30 days. Any posts that are political in nature will be removed. This is in response to the administration change and some of the resolutions that have been passed since then. This is not coming from one side or another, but both in tandem. Your mods, representing different values on the political spectrum, have discussed this and this is our chosen decision.

Please be advised that repeat violations may result in a ban. Remember, rule 2 is always in play. Be kind and courteous to your fellow Redditors. They are your neighbors. We will reassess the situation as things calm down. Let's keep things civil.

Birria

Anyone know where I could get some decent birria from? I have never had it and I am very curious. It looks delicious! Tired of white people taco night.

Black Car/Limo Service

Hi,

I will be in Columbus in a few weekends for a wedding. Iā€™m looking for a service that could take a few large groups to and from the wedding venues and hotel (suburbans). Most of the google results are for services between Columbus and Atlanta which I donā€™t need, hence the question.

Thanks in advance.

City jobs

Applied to a job several weeks ago and they havenā€™t even looked at my application. Is this normal? I called HR and although the lady was courteous, I could tell she wouldnā€™t actually be any help. She just kind of hurried me off the phone and asked if I checked on the status on the site. How long does it usually take? Is their any way to get someone to actually talk to me?

Good mental health care?

I am looking for a psychiatrist for myself and my sons as we are all on or in need of medication for different things and our PCPS are suggesting that we get more specialized help but don't refer out. We do use therapists at River Town counseling but they don't prescribe and I was thinking of going to the psych office they have but I am worried we will just be thrown pills and ignored. Anyone have any ideas about good psychiatrists that will work with you and are compassionate and understanding in the area?

Looking for Legitimate Organizations to Tutor Low-Income Students

Hi everyone,

Iā€™m a college educated engineer with a passion for mathematics, statistics, programming and software development, and Iā€™d love to give back to the community by offering tutoring to students from low-income families. Iā€™m looking for legitimate organizations in the Phenix City, AL / Columbus, GA area where I can sign up as a volunteer tutor.

If you know of any local programs, schools, or nonprofits that could use an extra tutor, Iā€™d really appreciate your recommendations! Thank you guys.

Local fosters for found animal

My wife and I had a dog appear in our yard earlier. It is not chipped from what our vet could find and there is no info on the collar. Animal Control will not take the dog as they are at capacity. The other shelters in town legally can't take the dog. We have three dogs ourselves and they do not like dogs that are not part of their pack. Right now she is in my back yard, but that won't last too long. I don't want to just release her back on the streets but I may have to do that. Does anyone know of someone who could take it until the owner is found? I still have a little bit that I can make this work but by later this afternoon she will have to be gone.

EDIT: I will leave this up in case people come up with ideas that may help others, but we had someone say they can take her if we don't find her family soon so we don't have to just release her.

EDIT2: We found out a lot more information about her late last night. She was actually found by someone else in our neighborhood, walking free near the Macon Road/185 area. People around there whom he asked said she belonged to a homeless man who had not been seen in weeks. He was trying to find someone to take her when she got away from him. We found someone to foster her and if they can't find an owner in a few weeks they are going to keep her permanently.

It's also our virtual yardsale, where you may connect with someone nearby who may want what you don't. Including a picture of what you are trying to part with improves those chances. Please keep in mind the rules and tips in this link.
