RULES

  1. All r/CC rules apply.

  2. All arguments need a minimum of 500 characters or they will be automatically removed. u/AutoModerator will be enforcing this rule. It counts spaces as characters but does not count spaces or punctuation at either end(front or back) of the arguments. See the policy page for more details.

  3. No more than one argument per contestant allowed in a topic-thread. If a contestant submits two arguments in the same topic-thread, ie two top-level comments above 500 characters, they will not be counted. Repeat offenses will be treated as spam and result in disqualification from the current round.

  4. Cointest admins may participate in the Cointest as much they wish so long as there are no conflicts of interest. For example, they must recuse themselves from judging threads they've participated in.

  5. Plagiarism is not allowed. See below for specifics:

  1. Copying paragraphs without using quotation marks or citing the original author, eg cutting-and-pasting from websites, online research papers, or arguments from other contestants.
  2. Paraphrasing without acknowledging the original author.
  3. See the policy page for more details.
  • All arguments with an average judging score of 4.0 or less will not be awarded Moon prizes, flairs, or be listed in the archive if they make it into the top three arguments.

  • GUIDELINES

    • Participants should disclose if they are affiliated with the subject coin/project in order to help assess the sincerity of their arguments. User flairs and profile history will be taken into account by the judges for this purpose.

    • Arguments should use proper reasoning. In other words, no logical fallacies.

    • Adding links to external sources is strongly encouraged.

    • Arguments should be written in a manner which is cleverly concise and easy to read. The less filler, the better. Format them using markdown if it helps. Also use correct spelling and grammar.

    • Arguments which try to control the narrative by steering away from technical details and instead focus on promotional aspects, are not encouraged. Emphasis should be on technology and not marketing. For example:

    • Con-arguments claiming a coin isn't listed on enough exchanges or isn't promoted enough on social outlets.
    • Pro-arguments making price predictions or focusing on charting analysis.
  • In contrast to pro-argument threads, con-argument threads will exempt users who do not meet the minimum karma and age standards in order to help counter brigades. Participants can make a throwaway account and submit an argument if they are concerned they will be heavily downvoted. Filtered arguments will be manually approved in these threads. Feel free to message the r/CointestOfficial modmail if it's taking too long to manually approve your argument. Your argument will not be exempted from the minimum 500 character rule however.

  • If an argument reaches over 9500 characters, please split it between two comments. One half will be in a top-level comment and the other half will be in response to the top-level comment. This will allow the u/CointestAdmin bot to copy oversized arguments from the topic thread to a judging thread in r/CointestAdmin.

  • JUDGING & SCORING CRITERIA

Below is a list of judging criteria Cointest mods may use for judging purposes. Each mod will give an entry a score between 1-10. Bonus points will not be added if an entry reaches a full score of 10. This criteria will remain prominently displayed near the top of the r/CointestAdmin sidebar. However, the mod team has declared it as nothing more than a guide for the time being and therefore should not be considered strict canon.

    1. Spelling and grammar. – (+/- 2 points)

    2. Was the entry formatted in an easily digestible way to read or was it an homogeneous block of text? Was it concise or was there a lot of filler? – (+/- 2 points)

    • Bonus points if markdown was applied in a thorough and coherent manner. In other words, the entry had headings followed by several sub-headings and bullet point/number lists without be used over zealously. - (.5 points)
  • Were sources provided and were they relevant to the arguments used? – (+/- 2 points)

    • Bonus points if sources were hyperlinked in relevant areas of the entry instead of only being aggregated at the end. - (.5 points)
  • How much effort was put in? Was the entry just above 500 characters? Was it copied or paraphrased? Did quotes take up large portions of the text? – (+/- 2 points)

  • Were the arguments valid or not? Did the entry have logical fallacies? – (+/- 2 points)

    • Bonus points if the entry links to and responds to counterarguments from a winning entry in an opposing thread on the same topic. - (.5 points)

    Cointest Updates: Coin Inquiries winners

Greetings r/cc and r/CointestOfficial. As announced previously, this final Coin Inquiries round marks the end of Cointest for the foreseeable future.

The mod team's priorities and attention are now fully devoted to rebuilding moons' functionality after Reddit 'sunset' community points. Cointest was an experiment to incentivize quality content in the main sub - to that end, we're happy to have distributed almost 300k moons over the years to the community. We will continue providing users with other events and ways to earn moons, including trivia sessions and other contests.

We hope to stay engaged with all of you who submitted or enjoyed reading Cointest entries in the past. Please contribute your ideas in /r/CryptoCurrencyMeta on how to improve our ecosystem. And reach out if you are interested in a volunteer position once Cointest relaunches, especially if you have python experience.

    ###Selected Winners

This Coin Inquiries round started on August 1^st 2023 and ended on October 31^st 2023. A maximum of 11,000 moons will be distributed to the selected winners by the end of the month.

    * Obviously the timing of the Moons Pro and Con threads was unfortunate. Given Reddit's decision to end support of the token, the submitted arguments were no longer relevant - the Cointest team has agreed to provide participants in those threads an equal amount of moons as a consolation prize.

Best Analysis award goes to u/pseudoHappyHippy for Oasis Network (ROSE) Pro-Argument. You can find the entry here. Congrats!

###Bounties - Win moons for fact-checking and reporting violations

As stated, the arguments selected above will go through a vetting stage lasting until the next mid-month update. This escrow period is for fact-checking and making sure the contestants did not violate any rules such as plagiarizing content, using generative AI or sock puppets.

Anyone who reviews the above arguments and finds one which violates a rule can submit a report in the Bounties Megathread. If the report is verified, the user who submitted the report will win a portion or the entire moon prize allocated for the argument in question.

The vetting stage for the prior General Concepts round has ended. The original winners results will stay the same and awards will be paid out sometime next week.

    ###Round Ending Soon

The Coin Inquiries round will be ending on October 31. Below is a list of the topics:

    !!! Announcement: Cointest Hiatus !!!

    Greetings r/CointestOfficial and /r/CryptoCurrency.

After discussion amongst the team of mods and volunteers who help to run Cointest for you all, it has been decided to put Cointest on hold for the time being.

Cointest has currently been running nonstop for over 2 years. We know that there are many users who enjoy participating every month and/or reading the community's excellent entries. This decision was not made lightly, but ultimately we will put a bear market pause on Cointest and re-assess once the market and sub activity pick up again.

If you're interested in earning moons through other events, please consider joining the periodic trivia sessions held via Kahoot and frequent competitions (click here for collection of prior contests).

You will still see winning comments pinned on top posts in /r/CryptoCurrency - however, since we won't have new entries to showcase for the foreseeable future, we will add a disclaimer to designate that pro/con arguments may be old and thus contain outdated information.

Please reach out if you are interested in a volunteer position once Cointest relaunched, especially if you have python experience.

Thank you to everyone who participated in Cointest and stay tuned for info about a relaunch in the future.

    Cointest Updates: Top People winners

    Greetings r/CryptoCurrency and r/CointestOfficial!

The April 2023 Cointest round has ended and its threads are locked. For July 2023, we are continuing to re-imagine the Top Coins category - trying to come up with new things to say about top coins like BTC and ETH was getting stale...

For the first new format, we landed on Top People. We asked you to consider the impact that key personalities have had on the crypto space. For the new round, Top Institutions, users can discuss the positive or negative impact that specific companies, non-profits, government organizations, etc. have had on the crypto space.

As a reminder: the r/CryptoCurrency Cointest is an official, ongoing competition for crowdsourcing the best write ups for selected crypto topics by awarding Moon prizes to the winning contestants. Winning arguments get pinned to top posts in r/CC to provide users with community sourced information for their cryptocurrency research.

    ###Selected Winners

The Top People round started on April 1^st and ended on June 30^th 2023.

A total of 11,000 moons will be distributed to the selected winners after they complete a one month vetting stage.

Best Analysis award goes to u/cryotosensei for their entry on Vitalik Buterin. You can find the entry here.

The original winners results will stay the same and awards have been paid out.

    ###Round Ending Soon

The Coin Inquiries round will be ending on July 31. Below is a list of the topics:

    ###Latest Round

The new Top Coins Institutions round has been live since July 1. Below is a list of the topics. Remember that won't follow the pro/con format:

    ###Reminders

    • The registry collects all topics open for participation in one place. See the section for General Concepts to find topics ending soon.

    • The archive lists out all current and closed topics. Users can find prior threads on a topic to help refine their arguments (or to help with DYOR).

    • The policy section outlines Cointest rules and guidelines among other aspects of the project.

    Thank you for your attention.
