How long is The Escarpment Trail open for casual hiking?

Generally when is it safe to do the whole Escarpment Trail with summer gear? Is May to October a good time or is the season shorter than that? Thank you.

Winter Catskills toddler ideas

Hi I’m thinking of going to Catskills with a toddler in January. Also a 5 year old.

What fun activities can we do? Are there any specific towns more preferable than others?

Any other specific recommendations? Snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ice skating, walking around a cute town, sledding?

Thanks!

What’s up with the renovations up at Belleayre?

I was skiing up Friday and found half the discovery lodge being renovated including the main food hall. Looks like it won’t be completed this season. Anyone know what’s going on here?

Most common winter routes up Hunter

Title says it all—what is/are the most common winter route(s) up Hunter? I’d guess a split between Becker Hollow and the old fire road, but I have zero experience in the Catskills and don’t know.

Context: I’m a 46er and have completed the NH 48 who’s now working on the Northeast 111….so I need Slide and Hunter for it. Experienced winter hiker with about 2/3 of the NH 4,000 footers hikes in winter.

Easy walking trail recommendations

Are there any easy scenic walking trails near Margretville? I am pregnant and don’t want to risk slippery trails.

Great Hike Up Hunter Yesterday. Looking for other Well-traveled 3500 Foot Winter Hikes in the Catskills!

Good morning! My wife and I had a great hike up to the Hunter Summit Fire Tower yesterday. Gorgeous day.

We joined the 3500 Footer Club in mid-October and this was our 5th hike and 7th summit.

We are planning on trying to do the winter hikes of Panther, Balsom, Blackhead, and Slide during the 3 months from late December to late March (we already did those 4 hikes without snow over the past 6 weeks to scout them out) but are curious if there are other 3500 foot mountains that are similar to Hunter in being an easy hike even in deeper snow. and well traveled.

We have a lot of hiking/mountaineering/climbing/ vertical ice climbing experience all over the world over the past 30 years and are in good shape with good equipment.

Any other well traveled 3500 foot Catskill hikes in winter suggestions would be greatly appreciated so that we can keep getting out there and after it!

Thanks and Hike On!

Best Vet Near Windham?

Hi! New resident. Pup got into it with a porcipine about a month back and have a fear a quill was missed as has migrated and now poor pup has a bloody spot on his face that looks infected and he won’t stop scratching it. Hearing/seeing some nightmare stories online about local vets not accepting new patients or not being open. I had to drive an hour to Kingston to the emergency vet and it cost so much money and I don’t want to have to do that again. I just need a solid local vet in the area! Please send your reco! I have two pups I love dearly!

Dead EV, please help!

Our Chevy equinox EV battery died and we are stranded in Pine Hill. We called AAA and they can’t tow the car and didn’t have a portable charger. We are parked 10 ft from a usable outlet and desperately need an EV charger!! Quickest Amazon delivery is Wednesday and DoorDash won’t deliver here. We could get a ride to Kingston but have yet to find a store that has one in stock (still making calls). Does anyone nearby have a charger we could use? We are right off main st in Pine Hill. 🙏

Where can I buy venison?

Hi folks. I'm hosting a dinner party in the area and a curious foodie guest asked if given how many deer they've seen around, if we can have venison on the menu!

I know most hunting here is done to stock private freezers. But any leads on stores or suppliers or farmers/ranchers in the Catskills I could buy 5 lbs venison from over the weekend?

Potentially visiting Belleayre to ski tomorrow (Friday 11/29)- first timer! Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I stay away from black trails but really want to go to Belleayre tomorrow. The blues open are Seneca, expressway, dot nebel, the crossing. Is it worth the trip? What are these trials like? Also, can you unload from the Hawk Quad before you hit the summit? Any insight would be helpful as I’ve never been.

Photo Booth with vintage photo viewers

I’m having a wedding up in the Catskills next year and am looking for a company that does photo booths and also will do the 35mm film photo viewers.

We are able to get the viewers but we need someone that can do the service!

Hunter Mountain

I’m visiting the Hunter Mountain area in late December with friends and our kids (ages 2-9.). We plan to snow tube at the mountain, but we are looking for other activities to do as well. We are particularly interested in an indoor pool but I haven’t been able to find one that would let us get a day pass. Any suggestions on activities, including indoor swimming, greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

Alder Lake

Went camping overnight last weekend. Here is the panorama I took around sunrise on 11/17. The sun is coming up over what I believe to be Cradle Rock Ridge

Booking North South Lake Campground?

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but my boyfriend and I love North South Lake and want to book a campground for next spring or summer, but I’m not sure when exactly the booking opens up. When I do try and get a campground, everything is booked up every weekend. When is the best time to book for May through September 2025? The website is a little confusing…

Dog’s First Snow!

And it was a good one! Albert is enjoying all of the fresh powder in Tannersville. It’s his very first winter in New York (he lived in Florida before we adopted him) and he’s loving it! Show him some love.
