In the summer of 2023 my wife and I (M30) moved to Calgary from Copenhagen, Denmark as she got hired for a researcher’s position at the UofC. I tagged along on an open work permit (so I don’t need sponsorship). We’re considering cutting our time in Calgary short if I can’t get a job - though we really like it here, being close to the mountains and people are so friendly and helpful. I could really see myself settling down here. I’ve struggled to get a foot in on the engineering job market since moving here. I got my license with APEGA as an EIT, and have applied for multiple jobs but no luck getting an interview. I have 5 years of engineering experience, but yeah… It’s hard to find guidance on how get on with getting an interview or building network. Seems like most career advisory are targeted PR’s and citizens (which is totally fair) - I just feel pretty lost as TFW trying to navigate the Calgary job market. Any good advice?

I own a resume writing business and I've fallen behind on Google ratings because of the massive influx of AI writing services. So I'm offering a free resume tune-up for people and some helpful insights from a 18-year resume writer. If you're interested you can reply to this email or send me a direct message. This is not an ad for my company and I'm not selling any services. Hopefully I can boost my local Google ranking and help people who are having difficulty landing interviews.

Legit asking for a friend. She lives in Toronto and is looking of a sponsor here in Calgary. She is a HCA in Toronto. As I live here, she asked me if she'll be able to find work here that can help her to be PR. But I have little knowledge about this kind of thing. What's the answer ti her question? According to my mom and other friends, she would need to study here because ON and AB have different practices and standards.

I know this post surfaces every few months but maybe this will make me feel better being out of work over Xmas.
Out of curiosity, how the market is for IT/Infrastructure (network + Linux) jobs in Calgary? I'm currently employed and mostly working from home as Level 3 support, but thinking to move to Calgary. I would have to leave my job and find new one there. Is that (currently) a bad move?
