Seeking Dentist

Hi all,

I'm a bit embarrassed to post this to be honest but I'm seeking a dentist. Anywhere from Carrickfergus to Belfast direction as I sort of live in the middle of them.

I've let my teeth get into a really bad way from mental health and other struggles and I'm really quite frightened of medical things. I know it's mostly irrational but I can't shake the phobia.

Basically, I would be interested in finding a dentist who isn't judgemental and will do their best to help and be compassionate.

I'm only in my 20s but my teeth are a real anxiety on my life everyday. I don't want to keep being scared to show them and I just generally want them to feel better.

I ideally wouldn't want to spend an arm and a leg but I've got a bit of savings.

I should've gone years ago and my anxiety surrounding it is horrendous. I would really appreciate any guidance.

Thank you all.

New road layout only applies to some?

So, I was standing at the corner of Leonardo Hotel at the lights, bottom of Grosvenor Road, traffic coming from GVS is no longer permitted to turn left onto Grosvenor road, the lights are in a sequence when the light is green for traffic to move through the lights, pedestrians have the green light to cross, so if you take a left turn, your going to run over someone (hard to explain)

Noticed a few taxis taking the left turn, so I started counting how many cars ignore the new layout, in 20 mins I counted 12 taxis, and 5 cars taking a left turn, some beeping at pedestrians crossing when they have a green man to do so! Someone is going to get killed here, a lady with a pram crossing and a taxi driver had to slam the brakes then had the audacity to shake his head at her.

Read the road markings and lights folks!

This place will be mental on the run up to Christmas.

P.S yes I was standing there for 20 mins waiting for a pick up, and yes I was that bored (more concerned) that I decided to count cars breaking the law, get over it.

Tattoo studio recs?

I’ll be visiting Belfast from the US for a few days in April before heading down to Dublin. While I’m there, I want to add to a travel sleeve I started on my leg earlier this month.

When I take a big trip or return to the same place several times, I’ll get a tattoo of something that embodies the trip and captures the atmosphere of the place in a Polaroid frame, so eventually it will look like a pile of photos from my travels. I’ve been fascinated by the Titanic since I was a kid and I’ll be in Belfast for the anniversary of the sinking, so of course the tattoo will be related to the Titanic. I want something pretty realistic, not too stylized or abstract but it doesn’t have to be photorealism either.

Does anyone here have any recommendations for artists in the city that could do something like that? Most studios I’ve found so far don’t have many reviews so I’m not entirely sure where to go. I won’t have a car so I’ll be limited to Belfast itself.

Gas pre payment meter

Want to switch from pre payment to billed gas meter. Who do I contact? SSE and phoenix seem to split responsibility so that nobody is responsible when top ups disappear into space. Thank you in advance.

SSE Arena

Is it difficult to get taxis home in Belfast from the SSE after a concert? Would prefer not to walk into town if possible. Is it worth it to pre-book with Value cabs or similar? No convenient bus routes. Thanks!

Trad musicians and/or indie cover bands for event hire?

I’m from Belfast but have lived in the states for quite a while now. My husband and I are trying to arrange a celebration kind of event of our wedding back there.

He’s from cork and LOVES trad/session music. I love indie music and would enjoy a cover band. Both would be great (trad earlier, indie later.)

Problem is all those booking websites seem to have mostly musicians in England. I know there’s great musical talent in Belfast but I also can’t physically be there to go around bars and check out bands. I’ve been googling all day with no luck!

Anyone have any leads of anyone in either genres in the Belfast area?

Stag-do this weekend (6 of us) - Need good bar recommendations that play Hip-Hop/RnB ‘til late

I know this has been asked before but I wanted a more up to date recommendation as I know how quickly things can change with bars and clubs. It looks like we’ll be going out in cathedral quarter but not strictly limited to this. Also should we be expecting high entry fees? Bonus points for anywhere that has Kilkenny on tap!

Belfast Hot food counters

Aware everything I post about on this is food related but I don’t play with my food lol. Anyone know where the best hot food counters are in Belfast though? Tried the 24hr spar beside Crumlin Gaol (which was excellent and the staff were class just very flavourless) and the Centra beside Ulster University (which is also good better for a fry then different dinners) but just really want to find the best. Used to work in Ballymena and had the Nisa hot food counter there which was god tier beat honey chilli chicken and chicken curries I have ever had. Don’t know if it’s changed post renovation but it’s a super one ☝🏼 and want to find one up here that matches the quality. 😎

Winter evening dog walking in Belfast

Hello! As the darker nights are here it's becoming a challenge to find somewhere in South/East Belfast that's lit up at night where you walk the dog off lead. Ormeau Park is my usual go to but it's very dark. Does anyone have any suggestions of somewhere that's lit up?

Owners lodge plans to demolish Lisburn's 19th century listed landmark Hilden Mill

https://www.newsletter.co.uk/news/environment/owners-lodge-plans-to-demolish-lisburns-19th-century-listed-landmark-hilden-mill-4843470

Owners of Lisburn’s listed Hilden Mill are looking for permission to knock the much-loved landmark down. The 19th century site was at one point one of the largest linen-thread manufacturers in the world – but despite several plans to redevelop it over the years, none have come to fruition.

Hide Ad Owners PJK Developments Ltd are now asking for permission to knock most of it down, though they state two structures close to Mill Street will be kept.

An application for listed building consent was recently lodged with Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council, stating that the owners are seeking the ‘demolition of listed Mill buildings’.

A spokesperson for PJK Developments told the BBC that it would be ‘completely and utterly uneconomic to restore’ the existing site - adding that after the Mill is knocked down, the area could be turned into housing.

Hide Ad But the Ulster Architectural Heritage Society branded the move ‘totally outrageous’, issuing a statement in which they complained that they had already objected to a partial demolition three years ago, only for planners to give it a green light.

“Authorities have the powers to stop the rot and force owners to do something, but to date nothing has occurred,” stated the body.

"Hilden deserves better.”

Lisburn North councillor Gary Hynds stated that the local community needs to be consulted about future plans for the site, reinforcing: “We must get this right – we have all waited a long time.”

Hide Ad "As someone who has lived in the local community all my life, and now has the huge privilege of representing it on the council, the Hilden Mill site means so much to me,” he said.

"Since getting elected last May, I have encouraged the developers to come forward with plans for the site. I have emphasised throughout that any plan must have at its heart the enormous historical significance of the site, making sure that some of the buildings are kept to recognise and celebrate that history, alongside community facilities for the local area.

"Community engagement and involvement are key going forward, and I am happy to help facilitate that. Our history is so very important, and so too is having a happy and prosperous local community in Hilden.”

Hide Ad He added that he was sure the Barbour family, who originally built and ran the mill, would have been keen to see any development proceed with those values in mind.

Built during the 1820s and greatly expanded over the next century, the mill was listed for protection at grade B+ in 1989, but has lain empty for more than 15 years since the linen-thread factory there shut down.

Its previous owners were at one point given planning permission for up to 650 homes on the 24-acre site, but construction never began.

Hide Ad PJK Developments bought the mill in 2017, at the time indicating that they hoped to create an affordable housing scheme with more than 200 homes.

The mill has repeatedly been hit by vandalism and anti-social behaviour. There have also been arson attacks on the facility, most recently in May of this year.

Looking for a Function Room for a Party in Belfast

Hey everyone! I'm on the hunt for a function room in Belfast to host a family and friends party for about 80 people. Ideally, we’d love a place with a bar for drinks, but we’d like to bring in our own food. It's a mixed group with five kids, so a family-friendly vibe would be perfect! Any suggestions on venues that fit the bill? Thanks in advance!

Looking for Swimming Lesson Recommendations in Belfast

Hey everyone! I'm 22, and one of my main goals this year was to take driving and swimming lessons. Well, it’s now the end of October, and I haven't quite made it happen yet. I'm thinking swimming might be more achievable before the year ends, so I’d love any recommendations on good places for adult swimming lessons in Belfast. Thanks in advance for any help!

Sunday Roast Dinner recommendations

We were going to Neil Hills on the Upper Newtownards but the last couple of times it has been disappointing.

I don’t drive (yet - working on it) so someplace that’s relatively easy to get to by Glider or bus.
Preferably in the East if not city centre.

Thanks a million in advance

Help me pick a pub in Belfast.

Imagine you were looking for a bar in Belfast to have a few drinks with a group of people on Friday evening around 7pm or 8pm, the ideal place should have:

No acoustic guitar players No trad session Seats, indoors No spides/stag parties/bell ends Somewhere you could hold a conversation

Where would you go?
