This subreddit is for people that want to build a PC in Canada. Anything discussion relating to hardware or software is allowed.

Downvotes are for irrelevant posts, not posts that you don't agree with.

rules
1. Be respectful and inclusive.
Discrimination of any kind and personal attacks are strictly forbidden. This includes derogatory words based on ethnicity, sexuality, etcetera, as well as comments disparaging a person based on their background or gender.
2. Don't reveal other people's personal information.
If a person mentions what city they live in for the sake of identifying a store in an area around them, that's perfectly acceptable, however, any details that mention a person's current place of residence are not allowed.
3. Do not post illegal, NSFW, objectively disturbing content or gore.
This sub is rated 13+, like the rest of Reddit.
4. Do not violate Reddit's self-promotion guidelines.
Reddit asks that all users maintain a 10:1 ratio in terms of comments:posts. While this falls under the moniker of 'spam', if your account has a sea of submissions to various subs and nothing else, you are considered to be spamming.
5. Do not post links to pirated material or unlicensed third party resellers.
Reddit's terms of service prohibits links to pirated distribution, or modifications, tools, keygens, warez that aid in violating copyright and intellectual property. As an extension, third party resellers also very frequently engage in key or credit card fraud, which harm software developers and may harm potential buyers. To prevent this subreddit from being shut down for violating Reddit's guidelines, link to official copies of software only. Reuploads and telling people to search terms = okay.
6. Do not use affiliate links.
As the sub grows, the intended meaning of it gets forgotten, which is to help people build a PC. A handful of people (or bots, they're quite hard to spot nowadays) have decided that, perhaps, it is better to advertise something completely unrelated, and receive compensation for it. This yields to people getting hardware that is unsuitable, either in price or performance. Hence, no affiliate links - you cannot profit off this subreddit.

The first option has an i5-12600K with DDR4 RAM with an MSI Motherboard. For both builds the GPU is a great deal used which I will buy. I will use the PC for gaming at 1080p mostly, and lots of After Effects Editing. Roughly 100 dollars difference so its not a huge dent in the wallet.

Im trying to buy a 4070 super ti/ryzen 7800x3d prebuilt pc but its all sold out in stores(not buying online i want to go in stores to buy it) 😪
Google results are a mess because these search terms just bring in a flood of unrelated BS. I was thinking of building a steam box style console pc. From what I can see, AMD doesn't seem to offer anything with a capable integrated GPU to run modern games at a good frame rate. I would have thought trickle down effect would bring something like the PS5 processor to the PC market.
I currently am playing at 1440p running a 4070 on a 2 year old 5600 with 32 gigs ddr4 in an atx case, and I’m looking to switch to a mff build which is only compatible with matx boards, and if not for the motherboard size change I would have bought the 5700x3d.
Since I now have to buy a new motherboard, I figured I would upgrade to am5, but at 1440p the 4070 shouldn’t require any _800x3d nor do I want to spend that much. Given that, and the fact that I am from Ontario but have a friend from NJ who can purchase the microcenter bundles. There are three options that I am interested in (conversion rates are calculated at 1usd = 1.40cad, I won’t buy this until it returns to that point😭):
All are configured with the motherboard upgrades and g-skill DDR5 6000 cl36 memory
7600x, 16gb: $340USD, $480CAD 9600x, 16gb: $370USD, $520CAD 7700x, 32gb: $450USD, $630CAD 9700x, 32gb: $480USD, $670CAD 7600x3d, 32gb: $450USD, $630CAD
Is it worth it to spend more on the 700x’s/7600x3d with more ram, or save some money since the 600x’s with less ram are good enough for my gpu and not much will be gained? Any help/input would be greatly appreciated.
I'm in the market for a gpu upgrade from my current rx6500xt. My budget is around 350 to 400 CAD
I'm getting a 34" 1440p oled on the 27th and I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card. Currently I'm using a 6650xt. Here are the options I'm pondering:
Intel B580 - $359
7800xt - $669
Wait for boxing day sale for a 7900xt for < 1000
Wait for the new 8000 series
I don't want to spend over $1000. What would ya'll recommend?
Fore some more context I primarily play single player games like God of war, Ghost of Tsushima, Final Fantasy etc.
I've always had great experiences with the staff at my local Canada Computers store. I literally can't recall ever having an issue with them in over 15 years. However, over the past few weeks, I've made several purchases through their online store, and the experience has been extremely subpar and unacceptable. Aside from the shipping fiasco, which didn't directly affect me, I've had to wait up to 7 days for them to respond to online tickets, and I still have one ticket that was opened 9 days ago without a response. I've also tried calling them twice, and both times, they were not helpful in the least.
My biggest issue right now concerns charges Canada Computers has made to my credit card. On November 9th, I placed an online order for a 9800X3D build, but I noticed I made a mistake and wanted to make a change. Unfortunately, it was impossible for Canada Computers to accommodate the change for "reasons," so I had to cancel the entire order and place a new one on November 12th. I received an email stating that a $3000 refund had been processed and that I should wait up to 15 business days for it to appear on my credit card statement, but it never did. While reviewing my credit card statement, I also noticed that I was double-charged $150 for another online order.
It's really hard to support a Canadian company when they behave so poorly. Time to initiate a charge-back with my credit card company I guess.
I am able to find ASUS Tuf VG27AQA1 for 199 CAD$ without taxes. DELL G2725D for 180 CAD$. Acer nitro XZ272U VBIIPHX is also around 210 CAD$. What should i pick i am thinking about spending 250$ cad with taxes or if it’s a very good deal under 300 CAD$. I really appreciate the help, sorry if i posted anything wrong it’s my first time posting. Please send links if you guys have a good deal
Bought about 600$ worth of parts from their online store on boxing day, they decided to change my order and divide it into two invoices, first was for the bulk of sale items, second was for the cheapest item on the list. A singular item. Somehow the 1st invoice, even though a shipping label was created 4 days before the 2nd invoice, is still, over two weeks later "waiting for courier pickup" while the 2nd invoice got shipped within literally less than 24 hours after processing
0 help from customer service, called, emailed multiple times. Even emailed to ask for a cancelation with 0 response, Had to literally do a chargeback to get a refund.
On November 25, I purchased the MSI Aegis R2. When I received it, my friends were telling me to make sure to update my processor drivers due to the microcode issues. While we were looking into that, we discovered I didn't have the right processor. The processor installed was an i5-12600KF when the ad says i9-14900F. That's a $600 difference from their own store.
I initiated the return the following morning. While talking to customer service, I complained because they almost got away with it. They agreed to upgrade me to MSI Aegis ZS2. They said go ahead and purchase and we'll do our investigation and price match after.
I JUST got an email saying they're refusing the return for the Aegis R2 altogether.. because they're saying it's not a Newegg error? What the hell?

What in the world do I do now? They're trying to frame this as if I changed the processor?
Is it worth it for me to buy a referencr RX 6800 for 300 CAD, or a RX 6800XT for 450 CAD. I have two offers and I dont know if its worth it at all
Had been planning on building in the terra for a while and was recently given an hand me down 3080. Planning on ordering parts tonight. Any adjustments or cheaper alternatives while still fitting my use case of 4k gaming and vr?

Just got back into PC building after a while and been wanting a new 9800x3d or 7800x3d and it’s next to impossible for me. I want to upgrade to a 5090 but I don’t know if I’ll be able to get one because I just don’t have enough free time to be constantly refreshing a page. What do you guys think and I swear it wasn’t this bad before.
I recently bought an Acer Nitro 50 n50-600, it is good for what I’ve played so far, it has an i7 9700, GTX 1660 Ti and 16 Gbs RAM, I’m thinking of upgrading the GPU for a RTX 3060 12 Gb, but I don’t know if it is worth the upgrade. I just wanna play games like God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2, Spider-man 1 & 2, Suicide Squad KTJL, at 60 fps with good graphics experience (medium/high/ultr)and maybe a lil bit of Ray-Tracing, also I don’t mind playing at 1080p, but 1440 would be ideal, any suggests?
Currently I have a 3900x on a x570 mobo with 64gb ram and a 3080ti. I’m wondering if I should upgrade just the cpu to 5700x3d or 5900x or if I should replace with 7700x on b650 mobo with 32gb ram. Thanks for your input! Also I have a 34” 1440p 144hz monitor that I game on as well as run virtual machines.
Bought a PSU from newegg on dec 05 and its been stuck with the missed connection message. Should I take action like file for delay or cancel order or just wait? Is there an option to pick it up from Purolator warehouse?
Got an email from Best Buy a couple days ago saying it wouldn't ship until Jan 25 / 2025. Back on hotstock I go to try an get one earlier..
Hi, I'm looking to build a reliable PC, and the budget is very generous. It is very important that the components are reliable. This is going to be used for productivity, no gaming. I'm out of the PC building game for a few years, so I'm not too tech savvy anymore.
I just have a few other requirements. No RGB whatsoever. The case has to be classy. I currently have a Corsair 275Q case. It's a simple, all black case, it's fantastic. Can't buy it anymore though. The case needs to have USB C, and it has to be compatible with the motherboard. I had an issue where the 275Q's USB 3.0 connectors didn't work with the motherboard I used. I'd like to avoid that incompatibility
I know what CPU I want, it's the AMD 9950X. Yes I know I should wait for the 9950X3D but I kinda need the PC urgently.
No GPU needed, I have a spare 3060 Ti for this.
For PSU, MB, I want a very reliable model that has Wi-Fi 7
For RAM, SSD, reliability first, then I'll take the fastest available speed second. I had an issue with my last build where I used 4 sticks of RAM for 64GB, but XMP didn't work properly and the max speed I got was 2666MHz rather than the advertised 3200MHz. I'd like to avoid that problem. I'll take 64GB of RAM and 1 or 2TB SSD.
Cooling: No liquid cooling for reliability reasons. Please recommend a great reliable air cooler
Thermal paste: Again, something really good and reliable. I don't want to repaste ever again.
Any good builders? I had a lot of trouble and hassle with my last build. I'm thinking of using Canada Computer's building services. Anyone else I should consider?
Please fill in everything else I need
Any recommendations?
Thanks
Hello, I ordered through Canada Computers with a delivery address as my home.
Purolator deliveres it to the nearest spot where it showed available for pick-up for sometime. I assumed that it'll be picked up and delivered to me.
But the shipment is returned back to them after some days.
Do you guys have any idea, what could this be about and how to claim my shipment. It was returned to Richmond Hill, Toronto.
Nobody from there seems to pick-up my call and hags up after long wait. Anybody had similar experiences with them?
TL;DR
Canada Computer, Order returned back to sender as un-clamed, purolator send it back. How do I claim it?
I'm looking to buy a GPU on the second hand market. Will prices be significantly reduced (for the 30/40 series) Nvidia cards? Is it worth waiting?
Does anyone know why does Thermalright Peerless Assassin keep on selling out on Amazon right now? I know it is a super popular choice for air cooler and I have seen it recommended all the time but that still doesn’t explain why I saw it available this morning and gone at night. Even the 7800x3ds got restocked with plenty supply now.
anybody else have this problem?
I got a brand new PC and it didn't make this bad noise at first but two weeks later, it has started doing so. It happen when gaming with high refresh rates
I really don't know if I should replace this card because it might just be a problem with the model rather than being unlucky and getting a messed up card.
As soon as I toggle the refresh rate past 60hz in the menu screen, the sound begins. I don't even need to resume the game.
I'm not sure 100% sure if it's the power supply or the gpu.
https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/K8qNQd
I don't know if I should bother taking out the GPU and taking it to canada computers
Here's what I'm looking at ordering from Memory Express:

Some of my choices aren't precisely what I'd want just due to what's available (would I prefer to get a Peerless Assassin cooler? Yes. Do I want to wait until January? No.)
I decided to end up going with the 4070 Super simply because I'll probably end up doing some stuff with AI for work, even though I'll mostly be doing that on work machines. And it seems like one of the cards that is sitting in a good performance/value place right now. I'll be doing software development work and using some VMs on this machine sometimes when I bring my work home with me, but I'll be honest the core use is for gaming. I'm not a super demanding gamer and probably would be happy with a more modest rig, but I also tend to run my systems into the ground before upgrading so I'm hoping this one will let me play AAA games for a fair number of years.
Let me know if you spot any known suspect parts or the like you'd recommend against. I'll take alternate recommendations that might be better for the money, but a lot of that'll probably just be restricted by the fact I'd like to have these parts in time to start building over Christmas break as opposed to waiting until January.
I ordered a CPU/MOBO/RAM bundle from Canada Computers Nov.25th. On Dec.6th they finally sent a waybill for UPS, however UPS shows this package has not yet been received.
I have spent so many hours calling Canada Computers shitty customer service only to be told it's out of their control and I have no options but to wait. They won't even cancel the order and refund me.
I will never do business with this company again. What are my options here?
Hi im a beginner and i need help building my first pc. I'd love to get as much performance possible for my budget. $1500 Cad max im close to a canadacomputers. The pc will mainly be used for gaming. No monitors needed as I alrdy have one. Any help will be appreciated. I'd also like it to be futureproof upgrade if possible
I have all the parts ready to go, All I need is my 9800x3d and a 4080 super before I can go. I doubt canada post strike affects it? I assume they all use private transporters. I read only they stopped production of the 4080 super because next gen is coming? is that true? It's a torture, I literally have all the parts just sitting there + I have the money for it but universe says no.
