guidelines
This subreddit is for people that want to build a PC in Canada. Anything discussion relating to hardware or software is allowed.
If you see spam or anything off-topic, report it.
Downvotes are for irrelevant posts, not posts that you don't agree with.
Make sure what you post is in Canadian dollars and state if otherwise.
Don't be a dick.
rules
1. Be respectful and inclusive.
Discrimination of any kind and personal attacks are strictly forbidden. This includes derogatory words based on ethnicity, sexuality, etcetera, as well as comments disparaging a person based on their background or gender.
2. Don't reveal other people's personal information.
If a person mentions what city they live in for the sake of identifying a store in an area around them, that's perfectly acceptable, however, any details that mention a person's current place of residence are not allowed.
3. Do not post illegal, NSFW, objectively disturbing content or gore.
This sub is rated 13+, like the rest of Reddit.
4. Do not violate Reddit's self-promotion guidelines.
Reddit asks that all users maintain a 10:1 ratio in terms of comments:posts. While this falls under the moniker of 'spam', if your account has a sea of submissions to various subs and nothing else, you are considered to be spamming.
5. Do not post links to pirated material or unlicensed third party resellers.
Reddit's terms of service prohibits links to pirated distribution, or modifications, tools, keygens, warez that aid in violating copyright and intellectual property. As an extension, third party resellers also very frequently engage in key or credit card fraud, which harm software developers and may harm potential buyers. To prevent this subreddit from being shut down for violating Reddit's guidelines, link to official copies of software only. Reuploads and telling people to search terms = okay.
6. Do not use affiliate links.
As the sub grows, the intended meaning of it gets forgotten, which is to help people build a PC. A handful of people (or bots, they're quite hard to spot nowadays) have decided that, perhaps, it is better to advertise something completely unrelated, and receive compensation for it. This yields to people getting hardware that is unsuitable, either in price or performance. Hence, no affiliate links - you cannot profit off this subreddit.

I was looking for advice about a first-time build. PC would be mainly for 1440 p gaming and productivity.
CPU/Mobo/RAM is a bundle from Canada Computers.
Trying to stay around the 1800$ range pre-tax.
Does it make sense/would this work? Would you change anything at this price point? So far, I've heard some mixed opinions about the Gigabyte motherboard. I'm open to any suggestions.
Thank you!

Currently I am using a 6750xt and 32gb of ram and a Ryzen 5 5600
I want to be able to macro up to 16 instances without slowing my computer down to a crawl.
Right now each instance is taking up approxmately 250mb of ram and 7% of my cpu but while using the computer it slows appreciable at 6 -9 instances.
What would be the best min/max value upgrade I could consider?
I'm about to buy this Dell S2721DS monitor ...
It's mostly for office work and coding. I like the size of 27" & 1440p.
Occasionally I play a game. I like PUBG, but planning to try some newer games too.
Is there anything about new monitors that I will be missing out on if I buy this one?
In store pick up doesn’t exist for any store. amazon still has not listed it. Bestbuy has the worst return policy. SOL if it is defective. Even on day 1. Memory express and newegg are price gouging people. What’s the deal with Canada? I feel like crossing the border to a microcenter might be easier at this point.
Apparently my monitor doesn't have built in speakers. Looking for audio suggestions. I have a wireless headset but don't always want to wear it for basic audio.
Looking for in order: small form factor, low cost (under $50), good quality. Colour scheme is white, wood, black. I'm not an audiophile but appreciate sound. Any more than $50 and I may as well change the monitor.
Hello,
Looking for advice about a build for a relative.
PC would be mainly for gaming, drawing, Photoshop and eventually Blender.
CPU/Mobo/RAM is a bundle from Canada Computers.
I added 2 GPUs in the list as I'm not sure what would be best. (I will only get 1)
Trying to stay at 1400$ - 1500$ pre-taxes.
Does it make sense/would this work? Open to suggestions!

I’m hoping to find a deal on Black Friday for a MB for a semi-portable build that connects to a portable monitor with a single USB cable.
I’ve seen some older posts with a few motherboards listed that have DP alt mode but some are discontinued. Does anyone know who currently makes some?
First time posting. Looking for a prebuilt but really know very little. CC has a few on sale. Im willing to spend up to 2500.00 it will be used for flight simulators and racing simulators such as assetto Corsa. VR is a must. Or any other sales out there i should look into? Thanks in advance.
I am looking to get a laptop for gaming. It doesn't have to be anything too fancy, but probably at least similar specs to my desktop if anything (or better, as it is an older desktop). These are the main components in my Desktop, so a bit older
I feel this may be decent? https://www.canadacomputers.com/en/gaming-laptops/251781/gigabyte-g6-kf-16-165hz-i7-13620h-rtx-4060-16gb-1tb-win11home-g6-kf-h3us854kh.html
If there is a better subreddit to ask, please let me know as well. Searching computer sales in Canada, BAPCCanada is the top and main result, otherwise there is a good chance most people speak from the USA.
Looking for the best monitor I can get this blackfriday season for gaming under 400$ that is 32 inch and 1440p thanks!
Hey ya'll got a question.
My Zotac 3070 is on it's way out, its still working but only can do minimal things before it shuts down. (1 out of 2 fan died, replaced it, still not working)
I was looking at 4070 Super but with the 5000 series few months away, do ya'll think it's good time to buy 4070 Super at Black Friday? Or should I try to wait it out?
From parts picker canada lowest it goes was 799-ish, would it get more discount when 5000 series releases?
Thank you for any insight!
500 off, just windering if theres anything in the specs that seem off.
its an upgrade for me no matter what , but i guess i just wanna know others opinions on it before i put myself on a yr long payment plan or somthing lol
Hi,
Looking to build / buy pre built (if the cost difference isn’t big). Can you comment which of with following config is best suited for someone 50:50 productivity (AutoCAD sketch etc) and gaming (32 gb ram and 2 tb ssd)
Questions:
Can I do better specs in that price range?
Should I consider 7950x3d or 9800x3d? More RAM ? Anything else that may help my work profile.
Also where will be the best place to buy it pre built or order parts in Canada? Would US have more options - I do go there often ?
Black Friday deals on the horizon
Thanks all help appreciated.
1. What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games (ex: resolution, FPS, settings) or programs you will be using.
2. What is your maximum PRE-TAX budget before rebates and shipping?
3. When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
4. What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ex: tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)
6. Will you be overclocking (ex: CPU/GPU/RAM)? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line?
7. Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, VR, VirtualLink, tensor cores, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
8. Do you have any specific case preferences (ex: mITX/mATX/mid-tower/full-tower sizes, styles, colours, window or not, LED lighting, etc.), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
9. Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? Note: some post-secondary students can get Windows 10 for free.
10. Will you be upgrading this PC in the future (ie: will you swap out better parts later on or will you build an entirely new tower later)? If so, when?
11. Do you have a brand preference? (ex: AMD/Intel for CPUs, AMD/NVIDIA for video cards, etc)
Thanks to anyone who will take the time to help me :D
1. What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games (ex: resolution, FPS, settings) or programs you will be using.
Played recently on PS5:
I play a lot of indie adventure/puzzle type games, but I imagine that's irrelevant because anything that can handle AAA can handle, like, The Crimson Diamond.
2. What is your maximum PRE-TAX budget before rebates and shipping?
$2000. Not strict but that's the ballpark. Less would be great.
3. When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
Next couple of weeks. I'm checking out the newbie Black Friday guide, thank you for that!
4. What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ex: tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)
It's a server so a tower should suffice. I'll need all the internals from GPU on. I'm open to Kijiji or FB Marketplace but I'm not sure how to tell if an item has been damaged.
5. If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? How old are they? Brands and models are appreciated.
No reused parts on hand besides a bunch of old 2.5" laptop SSDs and a mountain of cables. I'd like to hook it by ethernet to my Bell Gigahub modem/router. If you have any thoughts about optimizing for Moonlight clients anywhere in the house, that would also be helpful!
6. Will you be overclocking (ex: CPU/GPU/RAM)? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line?
No. I usually enable VM acceleration via hypervisor for occasional Android dev but I think that's standard these days?
7. Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, VR, VirtualLink, tensor cores, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
I assume I need a decent sized SSD and a good GPU for AAA gaming.
8. Do you have any specific case preferences (ex: mITX/mATX/mid-tower/full-tower sizes, styles, colours, window or not, LED lighting, etc.), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
Preference towards cheap, simple, and RGB-free but it's not a dealbreaker. Probably full sized for ease of swapping parts later?
9. Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? Note: some post-secondary students can get Windows 10 for free.
Yes.
10. Will you be upgrading this PC in the future (ie: will you swap out better parts later on or will you build an entirely new tower later)? If so, when?
As needed, would prefer to not have to upgrade too often.
11. Do you have a brand preference? (ex: AMD/Intel for CPUs, AMD/NVIDIA for video cards, etc)
No.
12. What are the specs of your old PC / laptop? Do you want to see if it can be upgraded instead? If so, paste its build from PCPartPicker here.
We currently only have laptops and consoles. Last gaming laptop was a used Alienware 15 R3/i7-7700HQ/GTX 1070. We have a PS5.
13. Extra info or particulars:
The PC is a gift for my partner but I'll use it too. I'm a programmer and reasonably handy, I've replaced laptop and desktop RAM/SSD and phone screens, but I don't know much about PC building and compatibility. I'm willing to learn but at the weekend-project level of investment rather than the new hobby level. I'm open to prebuilt systems if that's a better choice for me.
Thank you so much for your help!
I am on a budget and was feeling my overclocked i5-9600k was starting to bottleneck my setup. I’m wondering if upgrading to a Ryzen 7600 cpu is worthwhile? Specifically I’m hoping I will see a noticeable difference, specifically for stutters.
Current setup
CPU: i5-9600k overclocked to 4.8ghz
Ram: 16gb
Gpu: 3060ti
Monitor: base Samsung g9, 1440p ultra wide
If I upgraded I know I will need a new mobo and ram, I would probably go to 32gb because the cost isn’t too drastic.
I’m also hoping that once the supply for the 9800x3d works out the 7800x3d will drop on price but could be out to lunch
I do plan on upgrading the gpu in the near future as well.
Thanks!
Do canada computers use canada post as their courier? Im concerned that our orders will be delayed much more with the possible canada post strike?
Does anybody know where can I buy the new Lian Li wireless fans and cables? I have been searching for them in newegg, canada computers, memory express and amazon but I can’t seem to find one here in Canada
My current/old PC is an i7-3770.
Looking for an i3 12th gen or newer pre-built that can run Windows 11
Budget is <$700 CAD
Just got a text message and email from CC stating that the items in my order are ready. Looks like the backordered CPUs are gonna start shipping.
EDIT : Just got a shipping confirmation email and canada post tracking!
Hey all. You did an awesome job helping me update a build for my son's PC that I'm back and looking for some advice for my daughter this year. She's 10 and is currently using a PC that I built back in 2011. She's looking to play some games like Sims 4, Roblox, Minecraft (with some nice shaders) etc. which of course she can't do very well with that old beast. Not looking for fancy. A step up from entry level perhaps. Basically something cheap but effective and able to grow with her, maybe a GPU upgrade in a few years kind of thing because she'll eventually out-grow the games I mentioned above.
Looking to spend around $1k pre-tax. Family intends to pitch in and make this a nice Christmas gift for her. I'll take advantage of Black Friday sales where possible.
She has an existing monitor which is an old budget ASUS 24" w/HDMI from 5-6 years ago. I intend to upgrade it in time to a similarly-sized 1440p 120hz+ one.
Any recommendations for changes from the list below? I'll admit I've been out of touch with hardware lately so what I threw together may be gross.
I just ask that the CPU remain AMD, and the Mobo support decent WiFi (no ethernet in the area this PC will live).
Thanks!

Trying to find a motherboard for when I get a 9800X3D with a native PS/2 connector, so I can keep using my ancient-ass keyboard. Have tried finding on Memory Express's site, but no luck, maybe someone already knows a board.
Requirements:
I recently purchased a used Evga dual fan 3060 ti and was wondering if 350$ Cad was a decent price, it's my last part to complete my build so I wanted to make sure I didn't overpay or anything like that. Thanks in advance!
Primarily for gaming but I will use it for university work in the future. I want to play games at 1440p above 144 FPS for competitive shooters like valorant, apex legends and on 60 FPS for single player AAA games. I am willing to use lower settings to achieve these specifications if need be but I'd prefer not to have to turn the settings down too much.
$1350
I want to buy the parts during black Friday and/or boxing day and build the pc in January.
Tower
I'll be reusing my keyboard (an epomaker ABM084 ), my mouse ( dragonfly F1 pro max) and monitor which is a 1440p 165hz IPS panel from Pixio and my headphones ( razer Kraken) and my controller ( 8bitdo ultimate)
Not right away unless it's just changing some settings in the bios but I will consider it down the line
I need wifi
If possible I'd like a white build but it's not a necessity.
No
- Will you be upgrading this PC in the future (ie: will you swap out better parts later on or will you build an entirely new tower later)? If so, when?**
Yes, I'll upgrade my PC as things get outdated but I'll use it as it is for at least 3 years.
Amd cpu
My laptop was an Acer nitro 5 that had a 3060 and a ryzen 7 5800H but the mother broke and repairing cost is $500 so I'm not gonna bother.
None.
Hey, so I purchased my PC (Alienware Aurora R7) September 2019 and wondering if I should continue upgrading parts or build a brand new PC.
Thoughts?
Alienware Aurora R7
Processor - Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-9600K CPU @ 3.70GHz 3.70 GHz
32BG RAM (Upgraded from 16GB RAM)
1TB SSD (Upgraded from 256GB SSD)
GPU - GeForce RTX 2070
looking for something at max around ~100, dont know really anything about keyboards to be honest, all i know is i want a 100%, tactile (thunk/thock sound what i call it) are the main 2 things i want.
anyone have brands or suggestions?
So my rm850x 2021 has 2x PCI-e cables but the 7900 XTX requires 3. I understand I could get away with just plugging 2 as each cable supplies 300w but I would still like to plug in 3 cables nonetheless. I also want to avoid daisying.
In researching purchasing the cable, I'm getting a bit confused which one I should be getting. I think it should be this one, can anyone confirm? It seems pretty expensive for ONE cable, so if anyone can recommend me others that would be great too. I heard CableMod is one option, and there is availability at my local CC.

Hi All,
Hi all.
I am starting to buy parts as I find deals on them.
Likely will end up with a Ryzen 9600/9700 series chip and a 7800XT GPU(unless I find a better deal on something better.)
I know there is a tier list for PSUs but I haven't built a rig in a long time. There are a few superflower 1000w supplies on sale at Newegg and CC but I'd like some input on which is better. Ideally I'd like to be under 150$ before tax.
Is ATX 3.0 something I should look for?
Is there a line that is the "better value"?
any input would be appreciated as I meander down the path.
Cheers
https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/QGfFTM Going for a 1440p 144hz gaming pc already ordered the CPU day one. Just wondering if theres anything that stands out.
