rules
1. Be respectful and inclusive.
Discrimination of any kind and personal attacks are strictly forbidden. This includes derogatory words based on ethnicity, sexuality, etcetera, as well as comments disparaging a person based on their background or gender.
2. Don't reveal other people's personal information.
If a person mentions what city they live in for the sake of identifying a store in an area around them, that's perfectly acceptable, however, any details that mention a person's current place of residence are not allowed.
3. Do not post illegal, NSFW, objectively disturbing content or gore.
This sub is rated 13+, like the rest of Reddit.
4. Do not violate Reddit's self-promotion guidelines.
Reddit asks that all users maintain a 10:1 ratio in terms of comments:posts. While this falls under the moniker of 'spam', if your account has a sea of submissions to various subs and nothing else, you are considered to be spamming.
5. Do not post links to pirated material or unlicensed third party resellers.
Reddit's terms of service prohibits links to pirated distribution, or modifications, tools, keygens, warez that aid in violating copyright and intellectual property. As an extension, third party resellers also very frequently engage in key or credit card fraud, which harm software developers and may harm potential buyers. To prevent this subreddit from being shut down for violating Reddit's guidelines, link to official copies of software only. Reuploads and telling people to search terms = okay.
6. Do not use affiliate links.
As the sub grows, the intended meaning of it gets forgotten, which is to help people build a PC. A handful of people (or bots, they're quite hard to spot nowadays) have decided that, perhaps, it is better to advertise something completely unrelated, and receive compensation for it. This yields to people getting hardware that is unsuitable, either in price or performance. Hence, no affiliate links - you cannot profit off this subreddit.

Hello fellow Canadians,
I’m trying to plan out my shopping strategy for this year’s Black Friday and was wondering if anyone could share when Canadian PC component stores (like Canada Computers, Newegg Canada, Memory Express, and Amazon Canada) kicked off their Black Friday deals last year in 2023?
Did they start early in November or stick closer to the actual Black Friday date? Any insights or experiences would be super helpful!
Thanks in advance for any info you can share! 😊
Anyone order the 9800X3D from CC and get an eta on timeline?
I called my local store and they said online orders are so backed up as CC was the top pick from pre-orders (dunno how true that is)

About to build a new PC, and I'm a bit stuck on the motherboard. Not entirely sure what I actually need, other than it fitting an AM5 socket. Only two requirements I have from it are the classic red/blue/green audio jacks for the speakers I already have, and I don't want to buy an ASUS product. Do I need to spend upwards of $700 or will something in the $250-ish range work fine? Do I need a specific B650, B650E, X870, etc.?
I've also seen that you can buy SSDs with and without heatsinks for approximately the same price. Is a pre-installed heatsink really necessary on an SSD?
Lastly, how many fans does one need? I understand that an additional exhaust fan at the back of the case is probably going to be necessary, but past that I'm not sure about top fans or multiple fans at the back. The case comes with two 140mm fans pre-installed at the front.
I built my last PC well over 10 years ago and it is starting to show its age lol. it was an intel i5-4670k with a GTX760 with 8GB of ram. I have no issues building the PC myself but I've been out of the loop for a long time and am getting lost in motherboard options, ram timing and stuff. More interested in the CPU side since my main game (Factorio) isn't GPU bound at all but I would like to start branching out to other games so a middle of the road GPU would be good to have.
>**1. What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games (ex: resolution, FPS, settings) or programs you will be using.**
Main game is Factorio which supposedly really benefits from large cache and fast memory. 7800X3D was the CPU to have but I just started thinking about a PC upgrade a month ago and with the release of the 9800X3D I'm not sure whether its worth it to step up to the latest and greatest and the 7800X3D pricing seems to have shot up as well.
So Factorio is the focus for now. My main monitors are two 34" 144Hz gigabyte ultrawide's with freesync. obviously only need 1 for gaming. Factorio just released a major update so it'll be my focus for a few months so I could probably wait on graphics cards. Games I would branch into include satisfactory and mybe some other stuff, not really sure tbh. I have long been interested in VR but have never had a computer powerful enough so getting a graphics card for VR eventually would be a positive.
>**2. What is your maximum PRE-TAX budget before rebates and shipping?**
Would probably like to limit the total cost to about 2500CAD or so, that seems to be a reasonable budget for what I think I'm looking at, I'm open to more or less if there is a really good dollar/performance to be had. Like everyone I want to get the most for my money.
>**3. When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.**
Not in a rush, my old computer is still keeping up for now in Factorio but that won't last much longer (factory must grow and all), main thing that got me started now is the incoming tariffs that will likely bump computer costs. So want to buy and build before the new year. if it maxes sense to wait for GPU releases I could wait longer for that.
>**4. What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ex: tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)**
Replace this text with answer.
>**5. If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? How old are they? Brands and models are appreciated.**
Probably nothing worth reusing on the old computer. I could transfer over my GTX 760 temporarily if waiting for GPU but is it even better than integrated graphics anymore?
>**6. Will you be overclocking (ex: CPU/GPU/RAM)? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line?**
Mildly interested in overclocking the CPU if needed down the road but not a huge deal.
>**7. Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, VR, VirtualLink, tensor cores, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)**
Wifi and bluetooth would be nice. I have been interested in VR but don't currently have any modern headsets although mostly because my old computer wasn't capable. having it good enough for VR would be an asset.
>**8. Do you have any specific case preferences (ex: mITX/mATX/mid-tower/full-tower sizes, styles, colours, window or not, LED lighting, etc.), or a particular color theme preference for the components?**
It doesn't really matter to me too much. Maybe a glass side panel to see in but really not that important.
>**9. Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? Note: some post-secondary students can get Windows 10 for free.**
Yes.
>**10. Will you be upgrading this PC in the future (ie: will you swap out better parts later on or will you build an entirely new tower later)? If so, when?**
My old PC lasted over 10 years, so no rush to replace the new build. only thing as mentioned would be holding off on a GPU for later if it makes sense.
>**11. Do you have a brand preference? (ex: AMD/Intel for CPUs, AMD/NVIDIA for video cards, etc)**
No brand preference.
>**12. What are the specs of your old PC / laptop? Do you want to see if it can be upgraded instead? If so, paste its build from PCPartPicker here.**
intel i5-4670k with a GTX760 with 8GB of ram. I think its well outside the potential upgrade window. even all the storage and power supply is either undersized or outdated.
>**13. Extra info or particulars:**
None that I can think of.

I already have the case, mobo, ram, cpu, mouse, and monitor. I'm looking for input onto the other items.
Do I need a dual tower cooler for the 7700x or is this somewhere I can save $20?
I am waiting for black friday for a gpu but it will likely be the 7800xt, 7900gre, or 4070 super based on my $/performance proclivity.
Is 850W overkill and is there a better option for psu than the corsair? Seemed popular. 750W is $10 less.
The Viper vp4300 seems like it was suggested regularly but doesn't have dram. Also there was a recent change about TLC I read about. Was also looking at the SN770 but maybe a dram nvme will come available later this month. Any TLC and dram options I should consider that are cheaper?
Keyboard is very meh but I am not a big fan of clacking keys. Silence is important in this build.
Lastly I am going to see if I can get away with just the two front 140mm case fans unless you can convince me otherwise. With the mesh and open front I feel a few degrees won't make a difference for noise unless a 120mm exhaust fan at the rear is essential.
I am looking to build a very basic PC with a chance of upgrading in the future. I have been looking at how to build a PC but have been very overwhelmed with the amount of terms that I don't know the meaning of..LOL.. I just want something basic but in the future, can upgrade if needed.
Just want to play games like League and Valorant. Nothing too hardcore! I would also like to use this computer in the future for everyday use for maybe going back to school and doing assignments.
Maybe 500-600? Willing to spend more as I'm not really sure what should be a good budget.
Not in a rush..It's almost Black Friday/Boxing day so I don't mind waiting for sales.
>**4. What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ex: tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)**
Just the tower.
>**5. If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? How old are they? Brands and models are appreciated.**
I have an gaming monitor I bought to connect my laptop to.
>**6. Will you be overclocking (ex: CPU/GPU/RAM)? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line?**
No.
>**7. Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, VR, VirtualLink, tensor cores, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)**
I would like it to have at least Wifi and bluetooth. I would also like to have a decent amount of storage.
>**8. Do you have any specific case preferences (ex: mITX/mATX/mid-tower/full-tower sizes, styles, colours, window or not, LED lighting, etc.), or a particular color theme preference for the components?**
It doesn't really matter. But if I had to choice maybe something that is blue or white. But again this is not a big deal!
Yes.
>**10. Will you be upgrading this PC in the future (ie: will you swap out better parts later on or will you build an entirely new tower later)? If so, when?**
Probably down the line. Again, I'm not really sure what the standard for good parts are but I would like something that I could change in the future, if needed.
I do not have an old PC.
>**13. Extra info or particulars:**
I live in an apartment and ideally, I would like this to be in my room. I don't know if this PC is something I can directly connect to my router so something that can be connected through only wifi would be great.
So I'm planning on building a new rig, old one is starting to crap out on newer titles (mainly Black Ops 6). In doing research for where to buy however, I've been seeing a LOT of posts about how shit Canada Computers is; and apparently always have been. Is MemoryExpress the better option for buying a pre-built GAMING PC?
I'm not the most technologically inclined person, and when issues start arising I honestly get pretty overwhelmed in all of the troubleshooting. Canada Computers has only ever exacerbated that issue so if I can't avoid them than so be it, but I'd really like that to be a last resort.
Hey bapc! You guys helped me build my own pc years ago (still going great btw,I've even done some upgrades since then) so I thought maybe you could help me be a hero this holiday season as we welcome a new pc gamer into our ranks.
Here's the situation- my daughter is 8. She likes using my and my wife's computers to play games with her cousin/friends. Mostly Roblox, Minecraft and a game called "Content Warning"- Not demanding AAA stuff is what I'm saying. So we're looking to get her her own setup for playing games with friends (and of course having a distant second use as a device for schoolwork and such).
Our budget is a very modest ~$600 or so. I've looked into some black friday laptop deals and prebuilds but I can't help but shake the feeling that I could get her a much more decent little machine (with perhaps even room for future upgrades) if I were to look into building it myself.
The problem there is that when it comes to my knowledge of PC building, I'm a lot more familiar with the higher-end stuff. I'm not really sure where to start when it comes to more budget-friendly components so I'm not really sure what the best bang for my buck is going to be there.
Was really hoping I could get some recommendations, even if you think there are some parts I should be keeping an eye on when it comes to Black Friday deals! (If you think there's a laptop or prebuild/AIO that will suit my needs at that price point I am still open to suggestions there). Also worth mentioning that I'm a gross tech hoarder so I definitely do not need to buy a monitor/mouse/keyboard or anything like that. Just the PC itself.
Hello, I'm upgrading from an Intel i7 9700k to an AMD R7 9700x (I want the 7800X3D or 9800x3d, it's out of my budget right now unfortunately).
I will be doing Gamedev, 3D modeling, video editing, some gaming (mostly emulators and indie games), and social VR.
I'm wondering if I can or should carry over my current cooler or my current 750w PSU. Thank you.
My current build:
i7 9700k
3080 12 GB
32GB DDR4 3000mhz
1 Samsung EVO 870 1TB
1 WD Black 8TB
Noctua NH-U9S Cooler
PSU 750w
My new build will look something like
R7 9700x
3080 12GB
32GB 6000mhz DDR5 RAM
1 Samsung EVO 870 1TB
1 WD Black 8TB
Is 250$ for my old parts (i7 9700k with the motherboard, RAM, PSU, and Cooler) an ok deal if I were to sell on Marketplace?
What kind of former work experience did you have and what kind of certifications/education did you have?
I've seen this question asked in a lot of US-based gaming and PC building subreddits, and the answer in the American context was yes, it would.
Can anyone confirm if these proposed tariffs would increase prices for Canadian electronics as well?
I built a computer many years ago (going on a decade now!) and there are finally enough games that I can't run that it's time to replace it.
I'm confused (and shocked!) by the prices of components now, and I'd like some guidance on getting a good deal for components, and balancing quality.
Should I wait for Black Friday sales? What's my best value? I have a budget of around $1500, but I'm flexible. I've been seeing some bundle deals on CPU/MB/ram, but a lot of them are in store only (the only store near me is a Memex.
Some of my requirements:
Looking to not have to upgrade for another few years. Mostly 1440p games, mATX form factor (I also work from my smallish desk, so space is a premium!)
Thanks for helping me untangle this!
Hi.
Looking for some advice on how Newegg.ca's return policy works with their Extended Holiday Return period. I just bought a motherboard that hit an all-time low price, and since it's marked as "Extended Holiday Return Eligible," I can return or replace it until January 31, 2025. I’m stoked about that since I’m collecting components as they go on sale and waiting on an RTX 5000 series GPU before building.
Here’s my question though: What happens if I find a better deal on this motherboard, either at a different retailer or even if Newegg drops the price during Black Friday or later? I know they don’t price match Black Friday deals, so it seems like the only option would be to return my current one and buy at the new lower price.
But it feels pretty ridiculous to return it to Newegg just to buy the exact same thing from them again at a better price. Is that really how it goes? Anyone with experience dealing with this policy (especially during holiday returns) have any input? Appreciate any advice or tips!
Just found out this exists thanks to GN just dropping a video and I'm pretty sad we can't buy it here, has anyone tried shipping one into Canada from eBay or something?
How much did it cost you?
What was your experience?
Do you like it?
I'll definitely be getting a ROG Ally X, anyone thinking I should wait for some Black Friday deals around it?
I think I'm going to wait to see what Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals look like and also wait to see what happens with the 9800x3d and 7800x3d.
At the moment I'm thinking that if the 7800x3d doesn't drop in price then I'll go with the 7700x. There is a small chance I might up my budget and go for the 9800x3d if it is available. But in the meantime here are some questions I have.
For the current 7700X combos at CC are the MoBos and RAM they come with good? Is the best combo the most expensive one?
If I go with the 7700X and I want to make sure that I'll be able to upgrade the CPU in 2-3 years, should I invest in a better MoBo than the ones that come in the bundles?
For the GPU, in my limited research the RX 7800 XT seems like a good one to pair with the 7700X. But if I have room in my budget, would something like the RTX 4070 or RX 7900 GRE work? Or would the 7700X be a bottleneck at that point? What about a 4070 Ti Super or 7900 XT, is it pointless to pair those with a 7700X?
1. What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games (ex: resolution, FPS, settings) or programs you will be using.
1440p gaming at med to high settings if possible. Games like Baldur's Gate 3, Civ 6, WoW, Enshrouded, FM24, and EAFC25.
2. What is your maximum PRE-TAX budget before rebates and shipping?
$2400
3. When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
End of Nov or early Dec.
4. What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ex: tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)
Need it all. For the case I would prefer an ATX. I haven't built a computer in many years and I would not fuss around with anything small.
5. If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? How old are they? Brands and models are appreciated.
No parts to reuse.
6. Will you be overclocking (ex: CPU/GPU/RAM)? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line?
If it's easy to changes settings in the BIOS and there is no risk to frying anything, then sure. But not a requirement.
7. Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, VR, VirtualLink, tensor cores, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
2TB SSD, wifi would be nice
8. Do you have any specific case preferences (ex: mITX/mATX/mid-tower/full-tower sizes, styles, colours, window or not, LED lighting, etc.), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
Mid tower ATX. Not too fussed about the colour, but prefer something dark. No need for RGB/LED stuff, but if it's included in something for no extra cost, no big deal.
9. Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? Note: some post-secondary students can get Windows 10 for free.
Yes
10. Will you be upgrading this PC in the future (ie: will you swap out better parts later on or will you build an entirely new tower later)? If so, when?
Yes, would like to have the option to upgrade.
11. Do you have a brand preference? (ex: AMD/Intel for CPUs, AMD/NVIDIA for video cards, etc)
No
12. What are the specs of your old PC / laptop? Do you want to see if it can be upgraded instead? If so, paste its build from PCPartPicker here.
Too old.
Hey all,
Was looking to pick up a 2TB for my wife's PC, but am unsure if I would be better off waiting for Black Friday/Christmas deals.
I've found a couple of ones on sale for around $160 right now on Newegg/CC/MemEx, but I can't help but feel that those are inflated prices (I remember getting mine for a fair bit less a couple years ago).
I am looking to build a pc that will be able to play games at high quality with no issues. Games such as Throne and Liberty, Ashes of Creation, BO6 ect. Will this bundle from CC get me started with that?
Like so many, I’m getting a 9800x3d. I’ve been out of the CPU game for a while and am feeling overwhelmed with the amount of motherboard options.
I plan to overclock the cpu and will be using 2 nvme and 1 sata.
I will be getting a 5090 when released, currently have a 4090.
I game mostly at 4K on an oled TV. I am getting into streaming for fun. But PC will mostly just be a high end gaming rig.
I’m lost on what MB I should get. First, I’m not sure which are garbage (lots of negative talk about Asus on my searches). I see a lot of people recommend 650e boards but would that suffice if I want to overclock as much as possible? If I’m going premium, would I be better off 670e or 870e?
I’d like to future proof best I can. Any advice would be great.
Budget isn’t a concern except I’m staying away from the boards that are $1000+
Had my eye on Asrock Nova 870e and Strix 670e. Saw a tomahawk 670e but unsure if that’s good. Just overwhelmed
Anybody know why it didn’t go live on Amazon.ca but everywhere else? I have a gift card so don’t really want to buy else where but just feels dumb that I haven’t heard or seen anything positive for item posting on Amazon Canada?
Ordered the Tomahawk + 9800X3D bundle late last night that was listed as in stock on their site, order went in processed my card, then nothing til the AM. I got an email telling me my order was now on back order, and no dates were provided.
I called Canada Computers to find out, they don't have stock of anything, AND their shipping warehouse is out of commission as they are migrating from one location to another.
Ordered RAM from Newegg, coming from California, its due to beat Canada Computers to my doorstep.
Canada Computers has no idea when their online shipping warehouse will reopen, they couldn't provide the slightest idea.
Buy your parts somewhere else, where they don't lie about stock and capability to ship your product.
I feel they’re not gonna have enough chips with the demand, this is nuts.
I'm being forced to update to a new gaming rig, and hope to finally get out of consoles.

Is this prebuilt as good as I think it is? A friend (admittedly not much more experienced) put a build together similar and wound up being far more expensive. Is there something I'm missing, or is this actually the great deal that I think it is?
Sales are up, just ordered mine. Good luck !
Im building a pc for the first time and decided to go for some good specs within my budget (about $1800 cad). But went overbudget, now sitting at $2300cad off amazon. Is it good, compatible, am I missing something, is there a way to make it cheaper without impacting the performance too much? still want to play some AAAs but previos pc that I bought was used and already resold it again and playing cyberpunk on lows at 20fps was not the best experience.

Hi, I am building a gaming pc for the first time next week and am wondering if my build list is good to go; or if there are any parts I should change to make it better. I am mainly curious about if an 850w Power supply is good enough for a Ryzen 5 7600x with a 4070 Super with a bit of future-proofing in mind. As well as if a 240mm AIO is too much for the 7600x in the Lian Li a3 MATX case.
I would also like to mention that I live in Alberta, so the best place for PC parts that I know of is Memory Express.
