Welcome to the Unofficial Subreddit for Brigham Young University! Feel free to contribute to the community by discussing anything and everything BYU-Related!
Any type of submission is welcome (Videos, News Articles, Discussions, Questions, etc) as long as it is related directly to BYU. The only exception being Honor Code posts unless there is new news about it. Please no "Why do I have to shave every day?" submissions. We all understand Brigham Young University has some strange rules.
Please keep your submissions tasteful. Comments that express hate, are threatening, or are demeaning to any individual or group will be removed. This includes comments towards people who may not share the same belief system as you.
Religious conversations must be directly related to BYU. While BYU is owned and operated by a religious institution, it is a university first and foremost and we would like to keep the conversations here about the university itself. Submissions that include religion within them are allowed as long as it is still directly related to BYU.
Example of something allowed: "How do you feel about starting a class with a prayer and then talking about evolution in Biology 100?"
Example of something not allowed: "Brigham Young once said that anyone who puts on mismatching socks will never make it to Heaven!"
If you want to discuss religion without being restricted to the context of BYU, consider visiting /r/lds or /r/mormon

So, i'm a bit confused on how the pre-animation classes work for CS + ANI / GAM. Do i need to submit a portfolio to get into pre-animation? or do I make my portfolio from those classes to then apply for the major? If i'm transferring, is it the same, or different? is it a 3 year process?
stats :
my problem is i’ve retaken 3 classes that I got Cs in and replaced them with As- BYUI does grade replacement but i think it’ll show up on my transcript- do the admissions look at those or will they look at the final grades/GPA? i plan to apply for fall 2025.
I’m in the Information Systems major at BYU and I recently interviewed with Melaleuca for a cybersecurity internship after talking to them at a couple career fairs. It seems like a good gig but the company kinda gives me sketchy MLM vibes. Has anyone here ever interned with them? What’s their deal and what’s it like to work there?
Hello, I’m currently in my last year of highschool looking to attend BYU for CS: Animation and games emphasis. I had a couple questions. What’s the deal with this school? Why is it so a cheap? Do I need to be Mormon to attend? My GPA is a 3.3 and my SAT is a horrendous 940. Because of this, I thought it would be good for me to attend community college before applying here. Do transfer students have an easy time transferring? What’s the “catch” of this school?
I'm applying to BYU right now and was wondering if anyone else's gpa dropped quite a bit from the GPA on your high school transcript vs the GPA that BYU calculated. Mine dropped from uw 3.71 to uw 3.67, which I think is a lot especially since mine was already so low.
I'm tranfering into BYU for Winter semester and I put in my information on the Housing Application waitlist about a Month ago- do I just wait until I get an E-mail saying a spot is open? I genuinely don't know, and am worried I'm missing something that won't be recoverable later. All responses are appreciated, thank you.
Hey everyone! I’m an international student from Portugal, just recently converted to the church about three months ago. I’ll be starting at BYU soon (Winter Semester), and I’m searching for off-campus housing, ideally a private room. I'd really appreciate some honest advice from fellow students who know the area well.
I've gotten some offers from places managed by Redstone Management, but I’ve heard mixed reviews, so I’m a bit hesitant. I’m looking for something that feels safe, comfortable, and welcoming 🕺🏻
If anyone has personal recommendations for a good apartment or tips on navigating housing in Provo, I'd be super grateful. Thanks so much!
I just got my endorsement renewed today, but when I go to MyMAP and try to register for winter semester classes for some reason it’s not working and saying that I need an endorsement. Does anyone know why this is happening? Does the system take a day to recognize my endorsement or something?
I’m taking TMA classes and could use some guidance on how to approach them effectively. What can I focus on to improve my skills in storytelling, communication, and performance? Any tips on balancing study, rehearsal, and projects, or how to bring my values into my work? I’d appreciate any advice on making the most of this experience!
I've been attending the first quarter of Cal Poly SLO out of state and am realizing it is not worth the amount of money me and my family is spending. I'm halfway through my first quarter, and I am going to finish it, but how would it be possible that I transfer to BYU Provo? Do I have good chances as a transfer student with only 1 quarter? Or do I have to apply as a Freshman and void my units I earned this quarter? Is transferring even an option or do I need more than one quarter? I just started looking into this, so any info you have would help.
I'm a prospective transfer student and I'd rather die than share a bedroom again in on-campus housing, so how do y'all go about finding a roommate? Also what's the housing situation like in Provo? I'm from out east so I can't exactly look in person myself. I'm looking to apply for next fall semester.
Hey, does anybody know how BYU gets GPA for admissions or scholarships? They say that their 75th percentile GPA is a 4.0 and that 25th percentile is 3.86, is this the weighted GPA that they calculate or the unweighted? Tryna figure out if I have a shot at admission and if it's worth it to do the scholarship application. Thanks!
So I posted yesterday to ask for suggestions for jobs that are within the field of the accounting major, what I am planning to go into, and a few people pointed out that as is, I would need to get my overall GPA pushed up to have a better chance of getting into the program. Someone made the suggestion that I should see if I can find a job where I can do homework while I am working. Does anyone have any suggestions. As is, I am still hopeful that maybe I will be able to TA for the class that I mentioned in my previous post, (and will be able to get my GPA pushed up to at least a 3.4 this semester to be able to) but assuming that doesn't pan out, I wanted to know if there are any other specific areas of student employment that would lend themselves to being able to work on homework/study while working. I currently work at one of the food court outlets on campus (for privacy reasons I will abstain from stating which one specifically), which obviously means I am not able to do homework or study at work. Does anyone have any suggestions for specific jobs that I would be able to study while working at? I also am aware that all of the job listings are on Yjobs and do check there regularly, but I thought I would put this up here to see if anyone has any recommendations for specific ones I could look into.
i’ve called admissions 3 times and have 3 cases open and my application is due friday so i’m coming here. I took French 1 part 1 through BYU independent study and it is isn’t automatically loading into my college portion of the application like it said it would for all byu courses. there also isn’t a BYU independent study option there. how do i report this class????
I am a student at BYU, and am looking for a change in job (I currently work on campus and would prefer to continue to do so), and am looking to see if anyone knows of any student jobs that are available on campus. For context, I am planning to major in accounting, and am looking into trying to find a job that has something to do with that. I had considered trying to become a TA for one of my business classes that I am currently taking, but it looked like my overall GPA might not be high enough to be a TA (it currently is 3.32 for context and I saw somewhere that it has to be 3.4, and I also don't know whether the class I am considering trying to become a TA for will be an option, my professor said he would let me know when he knew). Anyways, I wanted to know if there is anyone else who has any suggestions for jobs within that area. Anyways, any response would be appreciated.
I need help and advice..I am attempting to transfer to BYU from BYU Idaho with my associates. I finish my associates here at byui next semester but just learned that BYU doesn't accept associate degrees from byui. The advice I was given from BYU's admission/transfer office is to transfer to a community college, finish my associates there, and then BYU will accept it. So basically I just need another name on my degree 🙄
Has anyone done this or know someone who has? I'm so close to finishing my associates and if I don't transfer with it, I'm going to be pushed back a couple semesters taking BYU classes that fulfill their requirements. I'm just trying to avoided backtracking as much as possible. I've looking into some colleges that I can potentially transfer too, but I'm finding it difficult to find one that doesn't require me to take more then 12 credits with them in order to get an associates...I really only have a couple credits left here at byui...the whole process is frustrating so if anyone can help that would be great.
I just want to ask if anyone has studied this course and will know when the instructor will post my grade.
I have completed all three of my midcourse exams. Every time I submitted the exam, I got the grade immediately, but I waited for almost two weeks, and the system said the instructor hadn't posted my grade.
Is there something wrong with Examity? All my midcourse exams are proctored, and although I have completed the exam for quite some time, the instructor still hasn't posted my grade.
Thank you guys
I know the essays and recommendations weigh a lot, but what are my chances of getting in?
Hi! Hope you all are doing great!
I will be a transfer from the winter 2025 and am eager to major in accounting.
Now, I heard it's acc310 class is quite hard to get an A (or A-).
Are there any materials I can find to prepare for the class?
Also, if you guys could share its syllabus with me, I would highly appreciate it!!
Have a nice day everyone!!
Should I go? It's a pretty hefty price tag
I am a high school junior currently and REALLY want to get into byu. I currently have a 3.9 gpa. I've taken some concurrent enrollment classes but this year I have my first AP class. I do not anticipate a good act and may not submit a score (I'm terrible at standardized tests). I do attend seminary. I have had a job all through high school. I'm also on my city's youth council that adds up to a lot of volunteer hours and experiences.
What can I do to stand out?? Also is there any advantage to apply for summer semester?
If I wanted to be an RA for the upcoming spring/summer semester how early do I usually have to apply? And how does the hall advisor recommendation work!
I (23M) want to join a yoga group with other people my age, but I'm not too sure if a yoga class at a local business is exactly what I want. I've never done yoga except once with my mom and it felt really good. I want to make it a part of my habits. I don't care about any demographics except age. Is there such thing as a yoga club or something I can join without being an active BYU student?
I have to choose one between the two Book of Mormon ( Rel A 121) professors. Both of them didn't show up on Rate my professor. Or I could be on the waitlist for Kaylen Nelson (8th on waitlist for a class with 62 students). Whose class is easier and better?
Hey yall! Lookin to see if there are any Pokemon Go groups, especially with the new G-Max stuff requiring huge groups.
How do remote classes (in canvas lms) work? do you just do stuff whenever you want? Is it harder than in person classes? Is it worth it? Has anyone taken Child Psychopathology online?
As an incoming freshman starting in Winter, from what I understand, I am required to take univ 101 my first semester, and from what I can tell on the website, I will need to register for that class before I can even register to others. However, all the sections I can see are full, so I want to know if/when they are going to add new ones or if they will empty out.
I'm trying to switch sections for the SFL110, but I'm fourth on the waitlist so I think it's a toss-up if I'll get in. I think I'll get into astronomy, but that will put me at 17 registered credits. Can I keep my current SFL110 class in my cart and then drop it AFTER (if) I get into the other one, or will I have to drop it beforehand so I don't go over the 18 credit limit? I don't want to drop my current one, but then not end up getting in, but if I leave it, will it not let me register? Sorry if that's really wordy lol.
Idk this is my first semester at BYU and I’m just curious what my chances are for getting off the wait list for these classes?
This class would help me get a gen ed out of the way but I'm not sure how bad the wait will be. The class size I think was about 35.
