Rokkatru… Good or Bad?

Hi! I’m a follower of Loki primarily (fairly new, exploring my roots and where I come from as well as following my father loosely, he is a heathen as well) but I do follow his children too, I’ve been looking more into those gods and how I can label myself/honor them properly. …and I’ve learned about Raven Kaldera. I know very little, but I do know that their content is something to avoid. (If there’s something I should know, by all means inform me!) All of the information I see to use as resources uses Raven Kaldera as a credit source. I want to avoid that, if I can. Are there any sources that I can use to better educate myself, so that I can more properly adjust my practices? And is Rokkatru itself a bad term, does it even apply, or is there a name I may call myself that doesn’t leave a disgusting taste?

Please pardon any exorbitant use of commas or bad grammar, I am very tired and I’ve been spending a long time staring at a lot of words. English stops being English at some point.

Is it true the Anglo Saxons viewed the gods as ancestors as opposed to “gods” as the Norse see it?

I know the Saxons viewed Woden as their direct ancestor, so I’m curious how this ties into the other gods.

Elder Futhark First Wand?

Hey Guys. After reading "Futhark: A Handbook of Rune Magic" multiple of times I finally decided to start my journey into Elder Futhark magic.

But it seams to actually practice Elder Futhark inscribing magic a gandr is required. And a galdr is in itself a talisman to my knowledge.

Reading the book it is said a gandr is "consecrated according to cermonial formulas as given for rune tines bellow" so reading further I found "Ritual of Loading Rune Tine" where it is then requires a gandr.

What am I missing? To make a gandr I need a gandr?

I tried to search via Google for answers on how to make a first Elder Futhark Wand but it's like a trade secret of free masonry. Would love any input. Thanks in any case.

New drinking horn?

I ordered a drinking horn from GRIMFROST and I cleaned it out with lukewarm water and the soft part of a sponge but after I dried it the inside didn’t feel the same as the outside of the horn is that how it is supposed to be? I read online that the inside is polished and cleaned so I hope I didn’t strip anything that prevents me from drinking from it.

Runes and reincarnation

When I was a child, I used to doodle on my homework. I would draw my own symbols in my secret language that I made up. Turns out I was drawing runes, I would fill the page with them on the outsides of my assignments. This was all unconscious writing on my own part.

So my question is, are runes and the writing of runes related to past lives? I do have Scandinavian ancestry but not much. Could this be possible or am I just tripping myself out. What do you all think?

And, lets say it were true, why as a child would I draw them, like what purpose would they serve? I thought maybe they could be "memory markers" that would help me remember or something. Again, I don't know. I am just a guy in a small town in the midwest with no special qualities really.

Thank you for reading.

Norns in wood?

I know it is a contemporary image, but for years I've hoped to run into a woodcarving with this image, but never found one. Does anybody know if anyone ever made such a thing? I'd love to have it on the wall.

Several questions.

I've been interested in Asatru for several years now, and I feel like I'm connected, however I have several questions.

How do I know if the Gods accept me?

How can I be sure they're there?

And what could I offer?

PS : Sorry for my English, I'm French.

Odin and Dragons?

Hello!

I am wondering if there's any direct connection to Odin and dragons?

I've done a lot of research and am having some trouble finding anything specific. So I thought I'd ask.

Thanks!

Please help

So I'm gonna be blunt here...

I'm scared shitless and here's why. Little black shadows are following me. Let's say I'm on my desk and doing some work. right in front of me theirs a little black figure and in the matter of a second homie dipped. I don't know what the actual hex is going on. No this is not a joke I cope with humor. Not only have I been seeing this tiny little "homie" He's been messing with my spirit guides... My sister Sophia asked her pendulum if my pendulums were reliable (it's complicated but long story short her spirit guides know mine) and the pendulum said that they weren't. Another event happened when me and that same person tried reading tea leaves. I saw this dark figure on the rim of my cup and threw himself into my cup. For context, we asked if I have been hexed and in the tea leaves, we saw a face smirking at us. I have a ward up in my room (it's an anti spirit perimeter that protects me from negativity) but the rest of my family aren't witches, therefore, the rest of the house isn't protected. My main familiar has let me know that this entity has caused the unreliability of my pendulums. They said that the entity is possibly gone. Please help!

Opinions

So a couple weeks ago my best friend stole my girl and it really messed me up because I lost the closest people to me, but right afterwards i started having conversations with a entity while I slept, Id fall asleep and Id start having a dream and get pulled out of it into a black void. Then me and wise entity "it gives off a vibe of being almost all knowing and powerful it's unique"and it offers me advice and it tries to persuade me in to doing things I normally wouldn't do like walking away from my house for a couple miles down one of the reserves to like a a big crazy looking tree or a clearing in the woods that leads to a lake. The entity can also show me things like it's showed me events like fights or bloody battles some times from the past and some from the present and its always seen through the Victor's view. I can go into more detail if y'all want Does anyone know what this entity might be?

I'm a confused asatru follower needing guidance and advice

I was raised Christian as a child but became a light asatru follower in my mid teens and I didn't practice it heavily so I drifted away from it and for the past couple of years I've forgotten about where I come as a Norwegian descendant and also drifted from honoring my ancestors and gods along the way. I don't know if I should feel dishonored by what happened but I wonder if the norse pagan/asatru community and the gods will welcome me back, I wish to be a viking and a follower of the old gods again. I need someone's help on this.

Adding runes to clothing or jewelry?

Hello all! I posted recently about a runestaff (and got valuable information, thank you!) And have decided that if I do have quick questions that asking here may be the best way. I have a difficult time sifting through books and websites, I think asking those with more experience is favorable. Anyway, what would be the best way, and what would be the effevt, of adding runes to my apparel. For example a metal ring.

Thank you!

Making a Runestaff (Asatru/Futhark)

Hello all! I have been using runes for divination and the occasional protection for a little while now. I have been reading many works that were left to me by my father, as well as doing some of my own research. I was talking with him one day and he showed me a staff, which I later discovered to be a runestaff, that he has had for many years. We talked and I decided that I may want to create one as well sometime in the near future, however his explanation on how to seemed purposefully lacking. I understand my needing to find out myself "through" myself, but do not want to make a mistake and have disaster befall me. If anyone has advice, or a detailed explanation, please give it. Thank you for listening!

P.S. I am refering to a walking runestaff, not the 24 small staves, thank you again.

Do you have to believe in the Gods to practice Asatru?

Do you have to believe in their literal existence, or can you still practice regardless? I asked this question in r/heathenry and they banned me for it and I don't know why. I'm new, and just trying to learn. Thanks in advance.

Heathenry in Australia...How do we do the seasonal festivals?

NOOB ALERT: I am relatively new to Heathenry, I still haven't chosen whether to pursue Asatru or ASH as my baseline, as they both appeal to me for different reasons. But something struck me recently. As someone who lives in the Southern Hemisphere (Australia) all the seasons are totally out of whack with the Northern Hemisphere, of which the seasonal customs and festivals of Heathenism are held. So how do I celebrate them? Do I just follow the Northern calendar even though the seasons don't match, or do I adjust my celebrations to the seasonal shift in my country.

I had a dream with odin

I want to know exactly what does it mean, because today at 5:36 i woke up and started remembering a dream that i had with him, i was in the middle of nowhere in a form that i wasn't a human but an actual red fox (perhaps my Totem) and Odin appears out of nowhere and it was in riding a old vehicle pulled by two horses, he came out and picked me up and whisper to my ears why i didn't pray to him, why you are looking for zeus snd Athena when those are not interested in you as i am with you, aren't my crows good enough to send a message of me!? He started to pet me as if i was a real Fox and Said a small prayer and then he put me ln the ground and said I'll be waiting for you dear sorcerer.... I don't what to say about the last one nor idk what he ment about Zeus's and his daughter but I'm so confused right now :( i don't want to offend the Gods in any way and I'm so worried... The last part of my dream there was a strange figure showing me that some souls live eternally and there's a place where others die as if they were in migar or something but i don't have relation with Asatrua religion, it's my first time hearing and listening to odin's voice and talking to a strange figure about this places. Please help

Why is r/asatru locked up

I ain't been on /r/asatru in over a year.

Mods are 80% dead accounts (more than 60 days without activity). The others won't reply. I haven't been on in some time to participate (last time was not with this account, so I'm fairly certain I'm not banned). I can't post, my replys to threads don't show up, others comments on OPs don't show up. Most recent thread has 7 or 8 replys, I see 0.

What's the deal?

To mods: If you aren't using the subreddit, id sure like to. That's the subreddit that will show up on a Google search. Newbs and people with questions wont be able to get their questions answered. They'll get ticked off. They'll get pitchforks and demand bread at our gate. And all we have is brioche.

What happened to Aleglad's blog?

Hello folks,

I'm no heathen, though I've had a longstanding fascination with modern heathen spirituality and ideas about tribe, ritual, ane deeds. Call me a fellow traveller.

I remember reading some posts on the r/asatru and r/askaheathen user AleGlad's blog that I found to be worthwhile, but when I went to revisit them I found an empty url.

Was the blog moved somewhere else? Is there an archive? If not, what happened?

Cheers.

Rites for an animal passing

Hello, I'm new to the faith. I was wondering if anyone could point me towards some info about the rites or rituals or anything in the faith about honoring a pet that has passed away. (Sickness, old age, euthanized, injury, etc...)

A case against praying to Odin

Odin, the last chieftain of the aesir, is now held high amongst the general community. He has his place, he is the allfather after all. He is the god of wisdom, but he gained that wisdom with great strife and sacrifice. If he is the god of wisdom acquired through strife, why should we pray and sacrifice to him in a time of great boldness. Should we not pray to his son, Baldur? What of Frey and his prosperity? Tacitus recorded that the Germanic that fought both for and against the Romans worshipped Tyr, the god of justice. He was held as the chief of the gods during that time. I think we should worship according to our circumstances, but we should acknowledge that Odin's time is well past. He is dead and I would argue that Ragnarok has happened already. The Viking age saw all of the conditions met for Ragnarok. I say we focus on the gods that survived the end of the Aesir. Baldur, Magni, Modi, and countless others.

Fair thee well,

Waardee
