ArtSteps is for people who make and enjoy videos of art in progress.
Time lapses of pencil drawings, oil paintings, clay sculpture, 100 foot long murals, 3D modeling, zBrush works, digital speed-paints, and other creative works all belong here. While this sub was created mainly for timelapses, in some cases instructional videos fit too especially ones where an artist shows their process of taking the work from start to finish.
Check out the guidelines or DM the mod if you have any questions.
ArtSteps is for people who make, and enjoy watching, videos showing works of art being taken from start to finish.
Some of these are short (sped up) and have background music. Other times they are longer and talk about what goes into making good art and how to improve your own work. Both kinds are welcome here.
.
A lot of subs are heavy-handed in their moderation and ArtSteps aims to avoid that. The two main rules are simple and obvious:
1) Submitted content should be on-topic. 2) Be nice to people.
Whether this includes constructive criticism on self-posts is up for debate, and we'll be asking the sub about it periodically. Other than that, here are some guidelines:
2D, 3D, Digital, Traditional. Music is kind of iffy, but if you can find a clear way to show the development process you can give posting it a shot.
Self-promotion (i.e. self-made timelapses, not your shirt company or whatever) is a-okay here, and in general we (I) trust the votes to decide. Try not to post so much it dominates the feed. If you aren't sure if you're over-posting, try waiting a week or so between self posts or stick to your best 10%.
Gifs, blogs, and websites for specific apps that show playback (e.g. Colors! DS) can be posted as well.
This isn't a strict requirement at the moment, but we (I) think it looks nice. Everyone is invited to post videos, gifs and playbacks of your own art process, or of others that you find interesting. Time lapses of pencil drawings, oil paintings, clay sculpture, 100 foot long murals, 3D modeling, zBrush works, digital speed-paints, and other creative works all belong here.
Discussion posts are also welcome. PM the mod if you have any questions.
While this sub was created mainly for timelapses, instructional videos fit too - especially ones where an artist takes their work from start to finish like you would see on Ctrl+Paint or Feng Zhu's channel). Discussion posts are things like writing about your art process, talking about making these kinds of videos, and meta posts about the subreddit.
For the purposes of the tagging system blog posts generally count as discussion, but if you want to tag it by the medium you're using that's fine too.
