I just attended Bug Rave event at Alaska hotel and bar.

And it was LITAF. I really enjoyed, finally after 3 months I got a chance to dance my heart out. Hopefully, I didn't cause any inconvenience. I'll be looking forward to such events in the future.

Thanks Juneau and thanks guys.

Reccomend computer shop?

Just did a custom build pc but have issues with it having random restarts and am already at wits end troubleshooting. I looked up some from Google but I don't know how reliable they are and I don't see any standard pricing. Any recommendations?

10/31/24 Update

Issue:

It restarts randomly with no BSOD, warnings, or errors, even when idle or with only one browser tab open. All parts are new, and no stickers or protective film were left on. I did a stress test after each change, but it still shuts off and restarts.

Overall, I am considering getting a new PSU to see if that will fix the issue, though it will take some time to arrive. If that doesn’t resolve the problem, where could I get help in Juneau to check this PC? Also, if anyone has experience with local computer shops here, what are their prices? Thank you, and I appreciate everyone who has previously commented!

  • Troubleshooting:

1- Updated Windows

2- Updated Drivers & also uninstalled and reinstalled Drivers

3- Updated BIOS

4- Isolated Ram

5- Changed RAM from 3700 Mhz to 3200 Mhz (The PC's cap is 3200 Mhz)

6- Turned off fast reboot

7- Disassembled and reassembled the entire PC and wiring

  • Notes:

- No overheating, CPU ranging from 40-50c

- Event Viewer showcases critical with Kernal Power supply 41 (63)

- PC fans (all) still functioning but still restarts.

Advice on moving and finding an apartment

I recently got a job in Juneau. It starts in early December, and I plan to fly up in mid November to find an apartment before returning to my current home so I can get packed and moved. I have some concerns about logistics, that I hope people living in the area can address.

My concerns about things going wrong with the mid-November trip revolve around weather. I worry about a scenario where I show up to visit prospective apartments, and discover that I can't get around because it snowed recently, rental cars don't have chains/traction tires, and lyft/uber drivers don't either (or simply aren't available). This would seem to make it impossible for me to actually get to prospective apartments and go on tours. Is this a legitimate concern, or can I rest assured that the streets of Juneau will almost certainly be safely navigable for someone who doesn't have their own car and set of chains with them? I suspect that the city of Juneau anticipates these kinds of issues and makes a point keeping streets clear, but I would appreciate any advice on what to do if this actually could be a problem.

A related concern is whether the runway at the airport could get icy to the point of causing delays. Is that a legitimate possibility? Again, I suspect that locals are diligent about de-icing the runway whenever that might happen, but I'd like to be sure.

Also, if you moved to Juneau recently, I would appreciate recommendations on reliable moving companies (I'm moving from a state in the contiguous United States.)

Snowblowers

Hey all,

I'm assuming I'm screwed this late in the season, but it looks like my snowblower bit the dust. Does anyone happen to have leads on finding a replacement? I'm looking for another electric, dual-stage machine. I'd just buy online if it wasn't for the damn battery restrictions.

Be sure to apply for FEMA if your house flooded

If your house flooded in August you can now apply for aid through FEMA. Might only be a few thousand dollars but every cent helps. If you don’t have flood insurance, please call your broker and or home insurance company and get this added on.

Visiting Juneau at Christmas

I'd like to visit Juneau sometime December 23 - Jan. 1. I'm hoping to do some hiking, weather and trails permitting and explore Juneau more. But as a solo traveler, I'm concerned that everything in town will be closed for the holidays. What is the vibe that time of year? I expect nothing to be open on Christmas, but do businesses usually take the whole week off?

Any tips on things to do and places to stay are appreciated. Thanks!

Foraging/Fishing/Hunting as a Juneau resident

Hey y’all,

I’m moving up to Juneau in mid December and am hoping to get some advice from locals about regulations, best practices and what to look out for while enjoying the bounty of the land.

I’m very interested in fishing, crabbing, mushroom foraging, and hunting. Would love to hear from people who have and are doing it in the area how best to prepare to be successful.

Can’t wait to see y’all!

Eagle Glacier

Headed into Juneau to do a hike to Eagle Glacier cabin. My partner got activated for the military and had to cancel. Avid hiker, with all the necessary equipment, & l've done many solo hikes. Just not comfortable in the Alaskan back country yet. Firefighter/ EMT. We can meet for lunch before hand. Open to other hikes as well, any length.

Martial Arts for 9yo

I’m looking for something that can help build my son’s physical confidence. Are there boxing or other martial arts opportunities? These are what I have found online:

Juneau Karate Academy - the focus isn’t on the sparring, mostly forms

Evo jiu jitsu - seems like a good choice

Are there others that take young students? Opinions?

Also are there any FB groups with good conversations on the election candidates or the election in general?

What's the skinny on weed in Juneau these days?

I'm an occasional smoker, but haven't checked out the various dispensaries in a few years. I settled on green elephant as the best deal years ago (I try to go there on Thurs for 15%(?) off on flower) but I'm open to the best deal. I'm a lightweight, prefer weaker stuff for a good price over absurdly potent shit for a premium.

Juneau School Board recall

Personally I’m against it. I think a lot of this was due to a combination of Dunleavy’s underfunding and the main accountant for CBJ schools not doing her job; the Board was basically blindsided and made the best decisions they could. Also I’m worried if successful the recall would put a chill on many to consider being on the Board in the future or to make any hard decisions if there’s a loud minority.

Hey everyone, I'm not new to Juneau or to mtg but have recently gotten back into it after discovering mtg arena.

Does anyone know of any groups that play mtg regularly and are open to new people? Preferably in the valley as I am located at the university. Thanks a ton!
