Temperature Blanket Yarn?

I'm thinking of making a temperature blanket, but the yarn that I would really like to use is only available in fingering weight. Would making only one row a day result in a decent size blanket or would I have to make more than one row for each day? And would fingering weight yarn even make a good blanket?

Knitting thumbs on mittens

How and where do I divide to knit the thumb? First time I followed the pattern but the thumb ended up in the middle of the row after knitting 33 starting the thumb in the next row. Anybody have any advice - this is my first time knitting mittens.

Y’all are great

Thank y’all so much for your help on my last post. I went and got a 16” needle and it’s looking much better. Now I just have to get used to sliding my stitches around 😂 Any tips for working in the round?

Not sure what to do, advice please? 🙏

Hello knitting friends!

So I’m a relatively knew knitter, and am working on my first pair of mittens. The pattern I’m working on is a modified version of the “World’s Simplest Knitting” pattern by Tin Can Knits, that turns them into a convertible knitting pattern.

But the question I keep asking myself, is if I should leave a slit opening in the thumb to be able to pull the thumb tip back, so that my thumb can be free, to use my phone and what not. But I’m really debating if it’s really that important. So I’d like some feedback from someone else, as I’m the most indecisive person in the world.

In the case that I do end up making a thumb slit, when casting my cast off stitches back on, should I go one stitch less? Or cast back the same amount of stitches? As I have a feeling that if I cast on the same amount I casted off, it’ll leave some gaping or something.

Any feedback or suggestions welcome! Thank you in advance! 😊

How to match gauge between two patterns?

Hi there, beginner knitter here - I want to make a matching tank top & skirt set and I was able to find two patterns on Ravelry that I think match pretty well because they both use a 3x1 rib stitch. The only thing is that the gauge swatch for the two patterns is different but I want to use the same yarn for both patterns so the garments match (see pattern info for both below).

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to approach this? Do I use larger needles for one and not the other? Do I size up the garment for the pattern with the smaller gauge? Nothing has been purchased for this project yet so any ideas would be very appreciated! Thanks so much.

First time doing moss stitch- what are these little holes? Tension issue?

Hi, I would be very grateful if you would help me identify my issue with moss stitch. As you can see on the photo, in the right side mostly, I get these holes, is it tension issue? Or did I somehow twist something?

Thank you!

Adding extra rows accidentally?

I’ve ended up with a situation where I’ve added a lot of rows accidentally on one end (the other side is even still) and it made this curve I didn’t want. Does anyone know what I need to change about my technique/ is this fixable without restarting?

Where to start to measure your sleeve

The pattern tells me to knit the sleeve in stockinette for 26 cm. Where do I start to measure? Thank you for your help!😊

Favorite yarn for a hat for a beginner?

Wanting to make a hat. Last post made me realize I didn’t have the right needles, and I decided I hated the yarn I was using. Looking for quick recs for your favorite yarn to use for a reasonably warm beanie. Thanks!

Steam blocked my knitting and the rib is super stretched out and has no shape (acrylic yarn)

The yarn isn’t dead, it’s just kinda stretched. If I throw it in the wash and pin it to the right dimensions will the stretch be restored?

I’m so annoyed with myself, I normally just wet block acrylic but I had one sleeve done and wanted to check the dimensions were right so quickly steamed it but I pulled it too much and stretched it too far. Is the whole thing ruined? It’s got me not wanting to even finish it and just start over

Help me insert button holes into this gift from my mom?

Hi guys, I'm not a knitter, my mom is. She made me this lovely neck wrap (about a year ago! I'm just now getting around to posting about it for help) and sent me the buttons with it. She didn't include the buttonholes in her design either, in case I didn't like the vintage buttons and wanted to change them, but I do like them, and I don't know how to make the holes for them carefully? How can I go about this? Cold season is here, I already got a cold, heeeeelp 😅 thaaaank you

YO or YOP?

I am preparing to knit a scarf with an eyelet detail along the edge. There are many yarn overs, but none of them say yop. On yarn overs that are between purl stitches, do i still do a regular yo? Will it make a big difference in the look of the final project?

Increases look messy, will it block out or should I frog?

Hi everyone,

I am currently working on the halibut sweater by Caitlin Hunter, and while the colorwork is looking okay so far I think my increases look really bad.

I'm doing m1l and m1r as the pattern suggests. I know it's not the most invisible increase, but it looks much messier than other raglan sweaters I've done using m1l/m1r. I don't mind a somewhat visible increase, but I hate how messy it looks right now.

I think part of the issue is that the increase stitches are shorter than normal, so the normal stitch on the next row is pulled longer to compensate, if that makes sense.

Am I doing something wrong or is this just m1l/m1r yoke behavior?

Is this something that will block out? Or should I frog back and redo the yoke with a different type of increase.

Thanks in advance, I greatly appreciate any advice!

Brand new to knitting

I’m attempting my first project in the round. I learned the basics of knitting yeaaaarrrrsss ago but have never really attempted a full project before. This is supposed to be a hat. Are the stitches too far apart on the connector? Is the connector too long? Do I have to worry about twisted stitches after the cast on row? Any and all help/tips/advice appreciated.

Metric equivalent?

Want to make this scarf I found free on Ravelry but the needle size is US and all my needles are metric. When I looked up a conversion chart it only showed US size 10.5 and not 10.75. Would the metric size be the same? (6.5?)

Is there a difference between Sl1PW WYIF, K1 and Sl1PW WYIF, WYIB K1?

I think it's just how the pattern is written but when you go to knitted the yarn should always come to the back right?

2nd Knitted Sweater Sizing Help

Hi there, first time here--I need advice and I don't know who to ask! I knit my first sweater in 2022 (SilverLining by Jennifer Steingass). I have been an avid knitter for many years but this was my first adventure into more “complicated” projects, and it went well! I used Knit Picks Wool of the Andes.

I have been attempting a 2nd colorwork (I stuck with Steingass because her patterns felt easy to read and the first worked well for me) and I have been struggling. Despite checking my gauge with a new yarn (SandnesGarn Peer Gynt), I can’t get past the colorwork yoke without it seeming too big. I started on the Hinterland sweater (calls for fingering, I had DK, but I checked my swatch) and then tore the colorwork out and pivoted to the Forestland sweater, which actually calls for DK. Again, swatched, achieved gauge.

I have now separated my sleeves and decided to try it on before going farther, and it is going to be far too large. Held it up to my 1st sweater for comparison, and is obviously bigger, despite the same number of stitches in the yoke/body across patterns and the DK yarn I have feeling more like worsted.

I am feeling devastated to be frogging the yoke again after so much work but don’t want to complete a sweater that is going to be too big for me to wear. At this point, I don’t know what to try next: smaller needles? (I noticed that the Silverlining first sweater was knit on size 5, even though it was worsted yarn). Just go down a size? Go down a size and switch down one needle size? Any help you can offer me would be greatly appreciated. After a second frogged yoke, I feel hesitant about trying again even though I love knitting sweaters.

Difficulty meeting gauge

I bought some gorgeous alpaca DK yarn at a yarn show a couple of weekend ago with the plan of making the Lauder sweater (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lauder) but the gauge called for in the pattern is 22sts on 3.25mm needles and I’m nowhere near.

The top swatch in this photo is on 3.5’s and I get 30st/10cm

The bottom swatch is on 4mms and I get 26st/10cm

I already don’t love the 4mm swatch as the cables are losing definition so I’m reluctant to go up another needle size!

Any other tips? Or should I give up and choose a different pattern for the yarn?

Stockinette stitch rows before ribbing on baby sweater?

I've knitted for a while, but this is the first time I have encountered this- I am starting a Sirdar Owl Cardigan. It is a pieced together pattern. The bottom calls for 2 rows of stockinette stitches before the ribbing of the sweater. The pictures support this method. Is this weird or does it have a purpose? Maybe to keep the ribbing on sleeves and body from getting really stretched out? Has anyone seen this in a pattern?

Edit bottom up, not pieced together. Getting my projects mixed up!

Ingrid sweater

so literally just started ingrid sweater, just wanted to check, in the first couple rows row 1 is k1 p1, until x amount of stitches, then row 2 says "work St's as they present" until x amount on needle.

am I purling them all (that's what the first row was before row 1) or knit purl based on what I just knit and purled? I'm assuming it's the knit purl, but I just wanted to check before I got any further

m1p question with White Pine

White Pine cardigan Inc. row 1: "Work as established to 1 st before 2nd m, m1p, slip m, k1, p1..."

So if I have one stitch left before my marker, m1p, then I still have that one stitch left before the marker. Does she mean knit up to the 2nd marker and m1p? I also have no idea if it should be right or left leaning. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/white-pine
