My favorite acapella song: “And So It Goes” • Hyannis (2019)

This cover of Billy Joel’s song by The Hyannis Sound disintegrates my very soul. There is no mood it cannot lift me from.

I hope you enjoy it.

Vocalists: Beckett Azevedo, Peter Carboni, Matt Goldstein, Jerrell Green, Jacob Lamb, Nolan Roche, Jordan Rubenstein, Brendan Jacob Smith, Ben Vance, Colin Watts, Will Wolz

Auditions for SoundBites, Co-ed Community Group in Greater Boston

SoundBites is seeking all voice parts, but particularly basses and altos. We are a co-ed, all-gender, community a cappella group, with members hailing from all over greater Boston. We perform an eclectic repertoire from pop to jazz to folk to Broadway. We hold 2 concerts per year, with ~6-8 independent gigs in the area (open mic nights, festivals, porchfests, etc.). We rehearse on Monday evenings in Lexington, MA and are holding Open Rehearsals for each Monday evening in February, 7-9pm. All ages and experience levels welcome. Come check us out and audition when you are ready! Here are videos from our mid-winter concert last week: https://www.youtube.com/results?search\_query=soundbitesma+a+cappella. And here's our website for more info: https://soundbitesma.com/. We'd love to hear from you!

Breaking a song down into parts for Acapella

Is there any app or website that will take a song we want to perform and break it down into parts for each person to sing acapella, like a bass part, harmonies, melody, mezzo etc. Or even something that will spit out the sheet music for each part to sing.

Or must it necessarily be done manually / by someone who knows theory.

r/acappella & The Website Formerly Known as Twitter (RULES UPDATE)

As with the prior post, thanks to numerous subs for furthering this conversation and creating the tools to effectively discuss and approach next steps. This post pulls some verbiage from the ones in r/chicago and r/ohio.

After careful consideration and community feedback, the mod team has decided to prohibit linking to X (formerly Twitter) on this subreddit. This decision reflects the consensus view of the community members.

X BAN

As of today, r/acappella is implementing a strict content curation policy to ban X domain.

We will only allow X content in the form of posts that are EXCLUSIVELY available on X and cannot be sourced from alternative platforms

For breaking news, users MUST:

  • Post official press releases
  • Share verified screenshots from the source
  • Provide direct links

This new ruling aims to elevate discourse, reduce noise, and ensure the community receives accurate, substantive local information.

We urge all creators, groups, and personalities to also make their content available on alternative platforms (e.g Bluesky).

Last thing. It is very likely that we're seeing increased activity in bots, trolls, and coordinated efforts to disrupt. It's even possible that some are siding with this ban of the domains just to stir the pot and create noise. Don't feed the trolls. Keep that in mind.

r/acappella and The Website Formerly Known As Twitter

This post is inspired by several similar posts across other subs, and pulls verbiage from them, including the one on r/magicTCG.

Given everything that’s happened in the past few days, particularly involving the Nazi behavior from the owner context, we are considering blocking links to The Site Formerly Known As Twitter. We would still be allowing image posts of Tweets, in the event major news is announced nowhere else, so you can still share those either way.

What do you guys think? Is this something worth pursuing? We considered running a poll, but feel that soliciting feedback is less vulnerable to manipulation. Please note, due to historical brigading this thread will be set to High Crowd Control - Non-community members, new Reddit accounts, and members with significantly negative subreddit karma will not be able to interact freely. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Edit: Comments have been locked. Please refer to the most recent announcement for further updates on this topic.

A Capella Group Help!!

I'm currently in an a capella group at my college and I'd say we're definitely pretty average, but I want us to get better such as adding in some choreography and getting mics for all of our people. I've gotten a lot of inspiration from more "professional" groups such as The Harvard Opportunes, Enharmonics A Capella, and SoCal Vocals and I've realized how clean their music is and how their amplification is used. I want to implement these things into my own group, but I was wondering if I could get some pointers/answers to some questions:

  1. What is the set up process for using mics for all of the singers?

  2. What are some rehearsal techniques that you use when rehearsing with your group?

  3. When arranging a capella versions of songs you want to perform, what is your thought process? Do you try to be more exact with the original music, or change it up somehow?

  4. How do you go about getting into ICCA or professional competitions?

I can't think of too many other questions atm, but if I do, I'll leave comments down below.

Thanks!!
