Kidwelly Castle in Wales. In 1223 a battle between William Marshal and Llywelyn's son Gruffydd ap Llywelyn Fawr here ended in a draw. In July Marshal captured the Castle from Rhys Gryg and other areas in Ceredigion, which he handed over to his ally Cynan ap Hywel.

1st of November 1223. King Louis VIII of France issues an ordinance prohibiting the kingdom's officials from registering debts owed to Jewish moneylenders, and limiting the lenders to a recovery of the principal amount owed, without interest.

6th of August 1223. Louis VIII and his wife Blanche of Castile were anointed and crowned King and Queen of France in Reims Cathedral by Archbishop Guillaume de Joinville. Immediately after taking office, Louis renewed the Franco-Staufian pact for the isolation of England with Emperor Frederick II.
