30th of August 1224. Henry III of England signs a municipal charter in London with Bordeaux (amended on June 13, 1235). Bordeaux takes the place of La Rochelle in the dominance of the wine trade with England.

19th of August 1224. Having lost Bedford and his brother, Falkes de Bréauté submits to Henry III, pleading for forgiveness in exchange for the loss of all his possessions.

15th of August 1224. The garrison at Bedford Castle, belonging to Falkes de Bréauté, surrenders to Henry III after a two month siege that ends after the castle has been undermined by a fire and fallen. After the garrison surrenders, the defenders are all hanged by order of the king.

16th of June 1224. William de Bréauté, Falkes' brother, seized Henry of Braybrooke, one of the justices of Dunstable, who ruled against the de Bréautés in 16 suits under the new royal writs. The allegedly brutal treatment he received led to a siege of Bedford Castle by royal forces.

5th of June 1224. The University of Naples is founded by Emperor Frederick II. Frederick's main purpose is to create an institution of higher learning that will put an end to the predominance of the universities of northern Italy, most notably these of Bologna and Padua.

2nd of May 1224. Ireland: William Marshal the Younger is appointed justiciar.

23rd of April 1224. William Marshal, 2nd Earl of Pembroke, one of the enforcers of the Magna Carta, marries Eleanor of England, Countess of Leicester, the nine-year old daughter of the late King John of England and sister of King Henry III.

Easter 1224. The truce between England and France expires and Louis VIII of France threatens to invade England again. Louis took the peace with England, which expired at Easter 1224, as an opportunity for further military action against the Plantagenets.

By April 1224. England: Royal castles taken in revolt against King John in the First Barons' War are returned to the King (Henry III).

Spring 1224. The Mongol army led by Subutai and Jochi cross the steppes of modern Kazakhstan, and returns to the horde of Genghis Khan on the Irtysh River. At a great kurultai or gathering of chiefs, Subutai reports on the Western campaign.

Spring 1224. Falkes de Bréauté, English high sheriff and a rival of Henry III, refuses to relinquish his castles and starts a rebellion. Cardinal Stephen Langton and forces under Hubert de Burgh deal with Falkes and the castles are handed over.

Spring 1224. Battle of Poimanenon: Byzantine forces under Emperor John III (Doukas Vatatzes', ruler of Nicaea, defeat the Latin army under the brothers Alexios Laskaris and Isaac Laskaris. John III achieves a decisive victory; among the captives taken are the two Laskaris brothers, who are blinded.

12th of March 1224. By the Catania Manifesto, Emperor Frederick II places all converted Baltic peoples under the protection of the Holy Roman Empire.
