I just recently got into Harry Nilsson just a couple years ago. I knew about him from the song “Coconut” and I thought he was some schmaltzy novelty singer. Man was I wrong. He is one of those artists that you hear a song and I didn’t know he sang that song. That happened a lot while listening to this record. I can hear Randy Newman, Eltron John and The Beatles as being influences on his sound. This is a great 70’s california rock album. The songs are cool and breezy. There are some versatile big hits on here. “Coconut” is a breezy island jam that puts anything Jimmy Buffett recorded to shame. “Without You” a cover of the british rock group Badfinger’s power ballad shows Nilsson’s range as a vocalist; it was a monster hit in 1971. “Jump In The Fire” is a seven minute monster jam. It is a sonic boom of a song. Temple Of The Dog covered this on their 2016 tour. You haven't lived until you heard Chris Cornell Bash out this tune live. The deep tracks are just as great as the hits “Early In The Morning” “Down” and “Let The Good Times Roll” have bluesy 70’s vibes. “Gotta Get Up” and “Driving Along” have a Randy Newman cheekiness to them both are a great way to kick off this album. The closing track “I’ll Never Get Along Without You” is a big powerful ballad and it is a great way to end a fantastic musical journey. Put this on your bucket list most definitely. I have to give this masterpiece 5 stars.
