How do you set up a submission based wiki on Miraheze?

We used to have a wiki on Fandom where in order to get approved a page had to go through a submission process where in order to add a page the user had to make a suggestion for it on the forum that had to get a certain number of likes to get approved. We had to migrate to Miraheze because Fandom decided to suddenly shut down our wiki without warning.

As far as I am aware Miraheze does not have its own forum system and likely does not even have its version of blogs. How would you set up such a system there. It could be done through a discord server but it is far from ideal as it needs a separate account and can not be linked on a pages to add list. Are there any better ways to do it?

Wikis in need of help

Hello everyone!

I run a web hosting group called grifkuba. And some of our wikis we host are in need of help for one reason or another.

The first wiki is for Tales of Luminaria.

https://talesofluminaria.wiki/wiki/Main_Page

The wiki was started to give details about mobile game, but once the mobile game closed up, all the editors skipped town and the wiki basically died.

I don't own the domain, I only host the files and dB.

I put the site in a read-only state and am trying to contact the domain owner, since the wiki can probably be taken down permanently.

I could probably replace the wiki with static HTML file, if worse comes to worse.

The second wiki is Diary of the Wimpy Kid Wiki.

https://wimpykidwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page

The wiki hasn't had any mainspace edits since July, so similar to the above, I've put it in the read-only state.

I don't want to see this close, but if no one is editing it or helping keep spam off of it, I'll be forced to, since I can't moderate every wiki I host.

If you are interested in the franchise, and wish to see more indie wikis out there, then please, consider adopting this wiki.

Reach out to me, join the grifkuba server, and more.

The third is Mega Man Wiki, with the Forth being Etrian Odyssey Wiki.

https://megamanwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page

https://etrianodyssey.wiki/

Both wikis are in the middle of a merge procedure where the community at the respective equivalent on Fandom has decided to merge their content with the indie wiki I host.

This is going to take a lot of effort from a lot of people, but the more people that pitch in, the lighter the work becomes for everyone.

If you wish to help out on this, let me know.

Considering moving my wikis off Fandom

I run the Villain Song Wiki. We provide videos, accreditation, trivia, and lyrics for villain songs and themes across media. This wiki has been up and doing relatively well for over seven years now.

However, in the past month, we have received visits and edits from Fandom staff stating that putting song lyrics on our wiki is a violation of their Terms of Use regarding copyrighted content. Despite the fact that this was never an issue for the past seven years, the staff-run Community Central uses lyrics in editing examples, and that HUNDREDS of wikis feature song lyrics (wikis based around musical artists, wikis based around movies and series with songs, etc.), the Villain Song Wiki is being singled out for the removal of one of the core elements of the wiki. Any attempts to contact the staff as to why this is happening only to us, and why now, have been ignored. This makes me incredibly fearful for the state of not only the Villain Song Wiki, but also the three other wikis that I created and administer; all of which are wikis focused on musical artists and their songs.

Therefore, I am considering moving my wikis off of Fandom. However, the details and possible issues are daunting to say the least. If I were to move my wikis off Fandom, would lyrics be allowed there, or would I face the same exact issues? Are there monetary costs to host my wikis somewhere else? Are the styles of editing and running a wiki on a different host site drastically different to how they are on Fandom?

Any answers or advice is appreciated.

What's the best place to make a Wiki that's just for me and friends?

Me and an extended group of friends have a pretty expansive setting and story we have created over the years that we would like to document in the form of a wiki for easy reference and, more importantly, because we think it would be kind of fun. Are there any Wiki farms which would allow us to make a wiki for something that doesn't exist outside of our group and, if so, what Wiki farms are recommended?

Is there any wiki hosting site (that isn't Miraheze or Fandom) where only I can edit the wiki?

I had to close my Wiki recently because some person kept vandalizing it with pointless drivel

is there any other wiki-hosting site that doesn't let other people edit it? Because I want to be the sole person making edits and stuff because I don't trust anyone

Make this make sense

Is there a reason Steven Henry Deckoff does not have a Wikipedia page? He is reportedly worth an estimated 3.2 billion dollars. He is also the founder of Black Diamond Capital Management, which manages $10 billion in assets. https://www.forbes.com/profile/stephen-deckoff/

He is not listed on the "American Billionaires" Wikipedia page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:American_billionaires

There is plenty of information available about his past such as his marriage to Gertrude Mercedes Jobe in 1993 and their subsequent divorce in 2001. https://www.nytimes.com/1993/05/24/style/weddings-gertrude-jobe-stephen-deckoff.html https://casetext.com/case/deckoff-v-deckoff

There is information about his father Stephen Lionel Deckoff who was an esteemed New York surgeon who unfortunately died in 2009. link.gale.com/apps/doc/A202155211/AONE?u=vol_albc&sid=bookmark-AONE&xid=afd54272 or The New York Times(Vol. 158, Issue 54713) or https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/nytimes/name/stephen-deckoff-obituary?id=28673146 Here you also learn about his sister Jamie Deckoff-Jones, his mother Audrey Perla Deckoff and another wife of Stephen named Pamela Charlotte Deckoff as well as his kid's names.

Additionally, he is reportedly the person that bought the disgraced "Epstein Islands" located in the U.S. Virgin islands for 60 million dollars (Reportedly less than half of their initially listed value), and will be reportedly receiving a large tax benefit for purchasing.  link.gale.com/apps/doc/A747936600/AONE?u=vol_albc&sid=bookmark-AONE&xid=0f381d33 link.gale.com/apps/doc/A747982893/AONE?u=vol_albc&sid=bookmark-AONE&xid=7c3b3b4c

This island transaction is reportedly the "highest-priced trade in the history of the U.S. Virgin Islands," (also could be added to a Wikipedia page somewhere)

Lastly, there are several articles out there highlighting Mr. and Mrs. Deckoff's philanthropic events raising money ($60,000) to "support protection, preservation and education programs and projects" in the Virgin Islands. This specific event took place at the reportedly jampacked "beautiful Deckoff Presidio del Mar home" in Estate Peter Bay on the Virgin island’s North Shore in 2014. https://www.stjohntradewinds.com/archives/TW_02.10.14_Edition.pdf

I could go on an on, this has been really bothering me, and I am curious as to why this person has no Wikipedia page. Is anyone interested in creating one? I am not a writer and considering anything that references that island chain is locked down due to vandalism, I am not sure Wikipedia would even let me publish the article as a new user. Anyways, if anyone has any of these answers I am all ears, just trying to understand fully how this community works.

No year-absence deletion?

Im working on a big project that I want to have its own dedicated wiki for, but once the project is complete, there wouldnt be anymore edits made to the wiki. Fandom deletes inactive wikis after a year of inactivity. Are there any wiki hosting sites that DONT do this?

I just learned you can't block people normally on Fandom

This isn't a question or anything, I just really need a place to complain about this where it won't be immediately deleted. The fact that you can't block people on Fandom unless you're an admin, and even then it isn't even real blocking, is just insane. That's one of the essential aspects of a social platform and they don't even have that.

Using paywall restricted archival articles as notable sources

Hi all, I'm trying to work on a Wikipedia article but the main notable sources are from the LA Times archives from the 90's—you have to pay to access the full article. Does anyone have an idea of what best practices are for this situation?

Warning about 2 users on the Arrowverse wiki

So there are 2 users by the names of Steven Bomb 17 and Swatteam123 who bully people. They wish people get banned for writing violent fanfics and make fun of people's dead relatives. They also accuse me of being a hypocrite for trying to protect them from a user who stalks me on Reddit. If you see them just know who they are. They're just a bunch of retarded little pieces of shit who bully people

Will this work on wikihow?

  • **Day 1:** The user expressed admiration for Dazwarier and a desire to replicate his actions.
  • **Day 2:** The user detailed research into Dazwarier’s history and noted the longevity of the AmongUsIsC00l account.
  • **Day 3:** The user outlined a plan to create a disruptive account, get blocked, and then start a new wave of sockpuppetry.
  • **Day 4:** The user refined the plan, stating they would quietly monitor wikiHow to learn what actions would trigger spammer blocks.
  • **Day 5:** The user announced a planned disruptive activity on December 6, 2024.

Will anyone help me overthrow a bad Bureaucrat?

Let me know. A Bureaucrat was last active in 2022 and only became active today because they didn’t agree with my edits and blocked me. Without talking to me.

They were using their opinion and saying it’s fact. This has caused LOTS of misinformation in the fandom. Despite abandoning the wiki and not bothering to update anything.

Will anyone vote yes to me if I make a poll? I’ll try and return the favor.

Moving out of Fandom and looking for options for a new home

For many years I owned a wiki in Wikia/Fandom for projects under a "studio name" and I'm considering on moving it to a different host or self-hosting, but I am also planning on splitting the wiki into two:

  • A wiki much like the currently existing one, containing information about both past and current projects associated under this name. This would be available to the public and the community could contribute in it. Ideally the feature set would reflect that of Fandom's.
  • An "in-universe" encyclopedia that encompasses some, but not all of the projects in the wiki above. It would also include lore and personal projects that may not be associated with the other wiki. It would be public but read-only. It's more of a personal worldbuilding project, so while it doesn't necessarily need to be just a wiki, presenting it in a wiki format is what I have in mind. I've also heard of other things like World Anvil for the encyclopedia, and I'm curious of using tools of that sort for it.

I'm knowledgeable of JavaScript and front-end frameworks, as well as running a server to some extent but I'm willing to use MediaWiki because of the extension ecosystem it has (or any similarly capable or compatible software). I don't expect them to scale quickly (especially the universe encyclopedia) so hopefully it should be easy and not too pricey to manage.

What would be the best options?

Wiki for notes?

Hi there,

I’m the runner for my own podcast and I’m currently trying to digitize notes and had an idea and wanted opinions on how if it sounded good

I run a d&d podcast and wanted a good way to organize notes for npcs, places, and lore with links and images like fanwikis do. The problem is I don’t want to give too much away for how the story pans out. Is there a way to make a wiki private and is this a logical way to organize my notes?
