Best place to run a Literaturelist that should be editable by the Community...ist IT GitHub or notion or a wiki page

For many years I owned a wiki in Wikia/Fandom for projects under a "studio name" and I'm considering on moving it to a different host or self-hosting, but I am also planning on splitting the wiki into two:

• A wiki much like the currently existing one, containing information about both past and current projects associated under this name. This would be available to the public and the community could contribute in it. Ideally the feature set would reflect that of Fandom's.
• An "in-universe" encyclopedia that encompasses some, but not all of the projects in the wiki above. It would also include lore and personal projects that may not be associated with the other wiki. It would be public but read-only. It's more of a personal worldbuilding project, so while it doesn't necessarily need to be just a wiki, presenting it in a wiki format is what I have in mind. I've also heard of other things like World Anvil for the encyclopedia, and I'm curious of using tools of that sort for it.

I'm knowledgeable of JavaScript and front-end frameworks, as well as running a server to some extent but I'm willing to use MediaWiki because of the extension ecosystem it has (or any similarly capable or compatible software). I don't expect them to scale quickly (especially the universe encyclopedia) so hopefully it should be easy and not too pricey to manage.

What would be the best options?

I’m the runner for my own podcast and I’m currently trying to digitize notes and had an idea and wanted opinions on how if it sounded good

I run a d&d podcast and wanted a good way to organize notes for npcs, places, and lore with links and images like fanwikis do. The problem is I don’t want to give too much away for how the story pans out. Is there a way to make a wiki private and is this a logical way to organize my notes?

hey, me and some people I know want to move a wiki thats on Fandom.com right now to something like miraheze, because of how many ads fandom has and a few other reasons. I tried to get in touch with the mods of the wiki but its been two weeks and no response.

Do we have to start the wiki from scratch if we don't have permission to use their content? Or can we just copy it over?

This may not be the right place to ask this, in which my question is does anyone know of good place to ask this.

recently there have been some trolls uploading random stuff on Fanon wiki's... TOO MANY at once and getting annoying. Does anyone know if there's a way to limit the number of photos?

I don’t know how many of you use Fandom but I am in a very unfortunate situation right now. I got blocked yesterday from editing on a somewhat obscure wiki on Fandom for something that was not block worthy. What happened was that I accidentally deleted something on one of the pages and got blocked without warning. I can’t message the administrators of the wiki I think because I am blocked and I tried to message one of the admins on a different site but no luck. I was a very frequent editor of that wiki and was one of the main contributors.

I didn’t do anything super bad I promise. I’m hoping that I can apologize to one of the admins and hope I can get editing privileges back or at least go into more detail on why l was blocked. I tried to ask for help on Fandom but can’t find anywhere to do that. If this was something that was definitely block worthy, I would let it go but this seems like a ridiculous reason. I’m also not the only one who got blocked, somebody else did by doing something that wasn’t that bad either and I remember at the time thinking it was harsh that they got blocked.

Does someone know where I can request help on Fandom or if it’s even possible? I just feel like I need to address it with someone but don’t know how to. I know this isn’t the right place for this but it’s worth a try.

I have 2 seperate wikis. I need to move some sections from a wiki being retired to another wiki.

I manage a wiki for a Star Trek-based website, and I am having trouble with one of my pages. On the tab/window, it does not display the name of the page, but the name of a sub-category within the page. I have tried removing that sub-category, but it is just replaced with another category name.

The page name is "Minor Species", but for some reason, the coding allows for the tab/window to display the name of a species, instead of the page name. Please help!!! Thank you!!

I want to make a wiki for my OCs to keep track of info. Any software recs?

As above: I have never fiddled with this but I want to learn to make a whole bunch of text files into a searchable wiki on a computer. At work we have ginormous handbooks that are a pain to browse through and the chapters, everything is not user friendly. I can get the handbooks electronically but the chapters are not searchable, you have to open the text files and then search. Can you recommend any easy to use software to create this? It would be offline and on a shared internet server possibly.

e.g a wiki that talks about the fictional meals in a book, my mucus, my pringles barcode, etc.

I.e. one where half of the things contain random off-topic notes, minimal information etc.

I've been wanting to make a wiki for awhile for a database of sorts. Just a place I can infodump and keep track of all the weird shit I know. I'd prefer it not be on Fandom, I'm not a fan (haha). I have absolutely no programming knowledge and as such have no clue how to start. I'm also unsure of where to host it (is that the right word? I'm genuinely this inept. Whatever type of thing MediaWiki or SlimWiki are.) I'd like to learn how to program eventually and to set up my own site, but I have no clue how to do that. At all. So I'll just use a wiki program. It'll all be on a very narrow topic but I expect there to be quite a few different pages. I'd also like it to look like one of those early internet educational websites with the tacky gifs that you click on to take you to different pages. Where do I even begin?

(Edit): I forgot to add that I don't want anyone else to be able to contribute. It's just my own database. Also, please explain everything to me like you just gave your grandma an iPhone.

I wanted to create a private wiki similar to character information for the characters in my original story. I want it to have different sections for abilities, images (like when you press to view the anime version or manga version), etc.

When I open Fandom and go to a wiki page it does not open to a full display. In order to see content I have to swipe right or left. This is somewhat irritating not be able to see the whole content and scroll up and down like other content pages

I've been using TiddlyWiki. It's not the best option but it's the only free option that isn't publicly editable.

But I really want a MediaWiki wiki. And preferably to have a wiki farm with two wikis in the same domain.

And I need to be able to have a "whitelist" of who can edit them.

Which free, stable host would fit?

I don't understand what falls under fair use. I wanted to make a wiki for fun, and to keep all my ideas in one place, but what I'm specifically making is a weird fan fiction thing. Is this allowed? I think Miraheze phrases it weird.
