Looking for a used reliable truck under $10k to haul stuff. What are my options?

Just got a house this summer and my CX5 will not be able to handle that many trips to Menards or Home Depot or Facebook marketplace houses, etc.

I need a truck with large enough bed that will be an occasional hauler/back up vehicle. Was looking at a Tacoma since they’re reliable but their prices are twice as much as let’s say a similar year/mileage silverado.

    What are my options?

    Travel homecare nurse

I am a traveling home care nurse in Northern Ontario Canada and I'm looking for a vehicle (preferably older model due to budget)

Currently I drive on average 200km in a day

At a minimum it has to be good on fuel (diesel or gasoline, doesn't matter), reliable enough that I know it can atleast last 50,000km without something major breaking (outside standard high wear parts) and have AWD/4WD, a high ground clearance would be nice due to the amount of snow in the winter but its not a dealbreaker.

I would prefer something on the smaller end like a sedan but some of my requirements do really scream SUV.

Currently I drive a 2009 Ford Escape which is just over 250,000km and the transmission is grinding and nearing its end, this will be driven untill it dies.

    Any suggestions are much appreciated!

A confused first time buyer looking for advice

I started my journey to both learn and find a first car to buy at the same time.

First, I was looking for a used one which later changed to at least a certified one due to the used car market, and then ended up with a new one for the same reason.

I wanted to get a hatchback first but then realized that an SUV is a better fit for a family and relatively long trip.

Here are the cars I have considered but then changed the more I learned about them.

Toyota Corolla: reliable & great fuel economy but not an SUV

Chevrolet Trax: suspiciously cheap with horrible user reviews

CX-5: an SUV, and reliable, but a tight fit for longer trips, especially in the back.

Subaru forester: Still reliable and more space, but fuel economy isn't great

KIA Sportage hybrid: spacious, great fuel economy, has great scores everywhere, but kia is still perceived as unreliable in the market

Honda hybrid C-rv: Reliable, has good resell value and spacious but buying it new is a bit over my budget

Then I checked jdpower's survey on the most reliable car in 2024, and I was surprised that Chevrolet Trax was mentioned as one of the best suvs of 2024 !!!

    What car should I buy.

I (19M) have the intention of saving up a decent amount of money for an nice car. My mom will be matching the amount of money I put into the down payment. What’s a reliable brand and model yall would recommend for a 60k a year salary? My mom makes six figures a year and will also be co-signing for credit reasons.

After purchasing my car I plan on spending on lot of time with it. I would like to save for some pretty expensive mods later down the line.

P.S had to rewrite my post bc I was being made fun of for being ignorant :/

Looking to get back into a fun car but I have no idea what I want…

Long story short I’ve been driving a 2016 CRV for the last 6 years and I want to buy another fun car for weekends/nice days.

Only problem is that I have no idea what I really want.

I’m looking for something that is somewhat cheap, somewhat reliable, can handle occasional DD use, has some practicality (it’s just me, my wife and a Shiba Inu in our household with no plans for kids) and can be easily modded with basic bolt ons.

I’ve been looking at damn near everything under the sun though from Fiesta ST’s to SS 1LE Camaro’s to S2000’s to Golf R’s

I would like to keep it relatively cheaper since we just bought a house and I am keeping the CRV for daily duties. So far the current front runners are a Fiesta ST with the Recaro seats or an S2000/Miata but again I am open to suggestions

Need advice on what car to buy

I currently have a 2009 Honda Accord v6 coupe. It’s fine but I’m looking for a car with more of a cool factor that’s faster and better looking. I’ve been looking at Mustang GTs and Camaro SS. What other cars(automatic) are fast (v8) and also look cool and are reliable. Thanks.

Need 3 row suv- prefer something that drives well but isn’t a reliability disaster. Cx90 vs CPO MDX vs CPO Q7

Thoughts? Anyone drive all 3? Thoughts? BMW x7 is too expensive Grand Highlander seems too pedestrian and I hear handling is subpar.

Edit: I do my own maintenance (fluids, plugs, brakes, filters) so I’m not overly concerned with high maintenance costs. However, I’m not equipped or skilled to diagnose/fix complicated problems. That would have to be handled by the dealer.

Help me choose between these three newish used SUVs that are relatively fun to drive.

Looking for a reliable 5 seater SUV that will last for fore than 7 years from now.

    Budget: ~32K

    Location: US DELMARVA area

Things that are important to me are:

    • Reliability
    • Driving dynamics (I know its SUV but still)
    • Luxury and tech features (Parking sensors, blind spot)

I have narrowed down these three in order of my likeness

    1. Acura RDX (>2021) [mileage: 45k] Price: $ 29K

    2. Mazda CX-50 (2023) [mileage: 18k] Price: $ 32K

    3. Lexus RX 350 [mileage: 60k] Price: $ 32K

    4. Audi SQ5 (>2018) [mileage: 60k] Price: $~30k

Rethinking RDX because I read online about many recalls/issues like limp mode, read glass shattering, leaky roof etc.

Is the Audi going to be reliable?

What are your thoughts? Any other vehicle I should consider?

What’s a good sweet spot model/price for a minimally used or certified pre-owned car?

Back in 2011 I bought a certified pre-owned Civic from a dealer. The car was a couple years old and had 36k miles. It’s been great all these years but age is starting to add up. Before it becomes death by a thousand cuts, I’d like to sell and buy a new car in a similar way as last time.

With the current market, what sort of pricing should I expect for a similar purchase? While I like civics, I’m open to other makes and models if there’s a current favorite among discerning buyers.

    Any input is appreciated.

    4Runner to Subaru Crosstrek?!?

Looking to trade in my 4Runner ORP 23’ to a 21’ Subaru Crosstrek Sport. Mostly for financial type reasons. Would cut our monthly payment car wise in half and if not more as insurance would go down a bit and definitely on the mpg side. Plus overall debt would drop a lot of what’s owned total. 4Runner I’m getting 16mpg. We already have a 21’ Sienna van to carry all us 5 (myself, wife, 8 year old son, and twins that are 2). Definitely don’t use the 4Runner to full potential. We don’t off-road and don’t haul anything. Any advice or comments of people making a switch like this? Cost savings are there for sure monthly basis.

Used car up to 13k $

Hello. I would love your recommendations guys. I'm looking for a car for daily commuting on weekdays and longer trips on weekends. I want something which has minimum of 100kW, is somewhat reliable for 2-4 years (looking to sell after that). 90% of time I'm driving alone or have a passenger. But sometimes I need to carry passengers on the back seat. It would be great if the car would not look boring. I'm in my mid 20s and want to have something fun, while I'm still childless. Thanks in advance. Also I'm in Europe.

    4Runner vs RAV4

Hi all! I cannot decide between these two. I am one to keep a car for 10+ years so I’m needing some help on what’s the best option to keep for that time. I have a dog, eventually may be hauling large tool boxes due to my job, and I do usually have an hour commute to work. I like the durability and build of the 4runner. I like the gas mileage the RAV4 seems to have. To those who own these vehicles: •Any defects or costly issues you might have had? •Any other pros and cons I should consider

Getting ready to buy a new SUV. Need help On what to get

I am a current owner of a Jeep Cherokee. I bought this car at a dealership with 20,000 MI back in 2019. For the first two years it did right by me only regular maintenance. In the last 8 months I have had a catalytic converter fail, had to get a complete tune-up, had to get the oil box changed two times, right now it's in the shop getting a new trans case..... Which of course Jeep refuses to pay for even though I just turned 61,000 mi on it! So all in all I'm still making payments and I've had around $7,000 that I've had to put into this piece of crap, total s*** car in the last 8 months!

When I pick this up from the shop where I'm having it repaired... Once again, I am going straight to a dealership to buy a used SUV. I am looking along the lines of Toyota because I have heard they are reliable and have low-cost maintenance. I am 61 years old and I don't need to get stranded on the side of the road in anything. I'm not young enough to wink my eye and get some cute guy to change my tire for me if you know what I mean LOL.

I am looking for something that will last me, possibly the rest of my life. I'm talking at least 20 years of pleasurable driving without a big headache and a big Bank account that goes along with it. I drive for Uber on a part-time basis so the car will partly be used for that and partly for everyday driving, somewhere around 15 mi A day. I want the car to be somewhat comfortable inside with leather seating if possible, and I'd like to have a smooth a ride as possible because I have a bad back. I know with Toyota RAV4s that they are said to be a rough ride. Any suggestions on what I should get? I am open to Honda cars also because I've heard they are quite reliable but might have transmission problems. I am not looking to spend any more Then say $28,000 Please give me your advice on what might suit my needs and my pocketbook? Thanks so much in advance

Nissan Versa S... what if it's a manual?

I need to replace my 2008 Altima that has over 200k on it. It's got a lot of rot on the subframes and is on borrowed time. Leaks all over the place and smells like burning oil all the time. Picture Nissan Altima and I drive it.

I have zero interest in anything expensive as I'm saving for a house and don't want a car payment hanging over me each month. I came across a 2007 Versa, manual transmission (good right?) with 170k miles on a used car lot. They're asking $2k for it.

The ideal replacement car needs to commute 50 miles per day. I live in the northeast so winters suck but I have options if the snow is terrible. I can usually borrow my work car or my dads truck if the snow is bad.

Open to hearing other ideas as well. For example, I've found a few imprezas with over 200k miles selling anywhere from $2900-$4000. Max I am willing to pay is around $5000. Thanks!

Looking for a fun reliable sedan under $15k

I am 20(m), looking for a reliable but fun sedan under $15k. Ideally lower mileage, I’d like to own it long term.

I know a g37x would be a good buy, but there aren’t a ton on my area that aren’t clapped, and I got a pretty pricey insurance estimate (clean driving record) I have found some good deals on q50s, but I haven’t seen good things about their reliability, and I don’t know anyone that has one.

Any recommendations are appreciated! In a perfect world I’d love a v6/v8, awd (live in the Midwest), 120k or less miles, nice interior, reliable, and some power. I know that’s a tough ask the way things are atm, but I’d appreciate any insight.

    Is this feasible?

I’m 21(M) and getting my first car and would like to pay less than 500 a month for a car off the lot with 3k down. I would like a reliable sedan model and have been looking a lot into 2021+ Chevy Malibu’s any suggestions?

Maverick or is there anything that competes on price that can Tow?

Been stuck in car hell for quite a while with a need to tow my camper (2000lbs loaded) and my family of 4. Seems to be $40,000 new to get this done or way to much on the used market.

As a devout Ford hater.... should I change my ways and get the Maverick as it does everything I need for $10,000+ less or will that ecoboost Knock any savings and more right out of my wallet?

I am open to suggestions but really don't want to spend over $20,000 without a warranty, and locally rust will have taken anything from before 2018.

    Porsche 911 Carrera T vs. BMW 1M

    I'm considering replacing my 911 with a 1M.

I have had a 2019 Porsche 911 Carrera T (991.2) for a little over 3 years. In that time, I've driven it about 15K miles, mostly on driving trips through Colorado and Utah, as well as many weekend morning Colorado canyon runs as I can get. I've tracked the car 6-7 times. It's the perfect enthusiast spec: carbon buckets, rear steering, sports chrono. 911 ownership was an aspiration for me year old me, and all the years on the car makes me happy. Matt Farah, Spike Feresten, and Johnny Lieberman are probably the Carrera T's biggest automotive journalist lauders. Paul from Everyday Driver ranked it #2 (after a McLaren Artura in their "Price of Fun" movie).

I've got a jonesing for the 2011 BMW 1M. It is, without a doubt, a neo classic. Road & Track named it one of the best 20 cars they've ever driven. I love the idea of a car desired for on-road smiles: short, taught, built to entertain. I'd argue it's probably the last great BMW, this coming from an E46 ZHP owner, the 1M is really an amalgam of greatest hits parts that apparently exceed their sum. Jason Camissa, Matt Farah, Chris Harris, Jeremy Clarkson, Doug DeMuro, etc. simply rave about the 1M. Both Paul and Todd of Everyday Driver have the 1am on their lists of the best cars they've ever driven.

I have not driven a 1am, and it doesn't look like it's possible to do so in earnest. I'm going on reputation and an affinity for finder era BMWs.

The money differential doesn't matter. I don't care about how the car looks to others, and I don't care about how I look in the car.

Considerations: I want something that is a pure joy to drive, because I will drive it. My track days are behind me, at least for a while. Appreciating values are a plus. Both will appreciate, but I expect the 1M will outpace the increasing value of the T. There will always be the GT3 that outshines the Carrera T. The 992.1 Carrera T is bigger and fatter, but it's a very good car and less limited in numbers than the 991.2. The 1M has no superior, and no rear successor. Both are low volume special models, but the 1M is a "moment in time car."

    I'd love your thoughts.

2022 Nissan Pathfinder or 2022 Chevy Traverse?

I can get either one of these off lease with about 30k miles for around $26k.

Both are attractive to me. I have had good experiences with Chevy in the past and I like that it’s the bigger of the two. Pathfinder has better tech and I like the look of it better. It does not have a CVT, which is usually the downfall of Nissans.

    What do you think?

    Need recommendations!!

So i'm going to be turning in my leased 2021 Kia Sorento Hybrid & don't know what to get for my next car. Not super knowledgable in cars/what is a good deal, so any help appreciated.

I lease cars cause I'm pretty terrible at keeping up with MX and like having somethign relatively new. The only reason I'd picked the Kia Sorento was bc it was hybrid. Now that i'm fully remote, that isn't as important to me but would still prefer something fuel efficient, so looking for a similar sized (medium?) SUV in similar price range, under 40K. I only need an SUV because I often have my large, 120 lb alaskan malamute in the back.

I dont really care much about makes, etc. Just want something reliable, large enough for the dog and well priced. Thanks so much for any recommendations!

Best small SUV in $46K-$56K range

I'm in the market for a new car to replace my 11 y.o. Forester. I have a little more money to spend this time. I was considering a RAV4Prime but I'm disappointed in its handling/braking. Also I like to listen to classical music when I drive and it's a little noisy. I do not need a PHEV or hybrid

    I want

Safety: great visibility, handling and control, braking, road feedback in steering and brakes (I hate cars that feel like you're driving a video game - that's problem with the RAV4 Prime). A spare tire of some kind. NOT touch screen controls for fan and heat/AC.

Reliability: Good reliability as documented by something - examples: JD Powers, Consumer Reports, state lemon-law data, etc

Practicality: Good cargo space, towing, ease of routine maintenance like oil changes, etc.

Creature comforts: In this price range I expect a quiet cabin, refined interior comfortable, super-adjustable seats.

    2022+ Civic Hatch Sport Touring or 2015-2019 IS350 with a 30k budget?

I know these are probably two weird cross shops, but I'm torn between the more practical space and mature nature of just owning a civic hatch. No it doesn't go very fast, and the new re-fresh I think looks really great, especially in the Boost Blue. They also seem pretty available at the moment. Also its a civic. Need I say more, the reliability has been through the roof for decades.

The IS350 (f-Sport most likely) would be a much more FUN drive, but you are losing out on the hatch space. The exhaust note is a hundred times better, and sitting in the cockpit, I can't help but think I'm sitting in a baby LFA. That being said, We would probably be looking at something under 30k, which is probably a strain at this trim level and without 150k miles. lol.

Any thoughts? We are just two people, no kids. Just bought our own house last year, and are wanting to upgrade from the Mini Cooper into a more "permanent" car.

We've owned a GTI previously, but we are trying to stray away from german vehicles, as living in semi-rural Michigan they are a bit hard to get into the shop.

    Honda or Mazda

2020 Honda accord Ex with 50k miles or 2021 Mazda 3 hatchback 32k miles. Both are the same price, 21k. Which would be the better long term car for mostly city driving? I like the Mazda because it comes with more features and has less milage, but does that really matter when it comes to Hondas 'reliability'?

Which of these would you pick and why? ‘20-22 Mazda CX-30, ‘18-21 Mazda CX-5, or ‘19-‘21 Subaru Impreza Wagon.

My wife’s Hyundai died and we need a new car ASAP, I’ve spent countless hours over the past week combing through the internet and researching. She’s already test driven the CX-30 and liked it, and the cargo space and interior weren’t an issue at all for her, which is one of the biggest complaints I’ve seen. She’s going today to test drive the CX-5 and an Impreza sedan since there isn’t a wagon in those model years within an hour drive. I like the Mazda’s because of no CVT transmission, which I’ve heard so many mixed things about, but it sounds like as long as they get maintained and driven properly they’re fine. Which leads me to the Impreza, she really likes Subaru and even though it is a CVT we would get one between 20-30k miles which is right around the time to get the transmission fluid changed if I’m understanding that correctly.

We narrowed it down to these cars specifically because we’d like to spend less than $25k and get something newer with less than 40k miles. We’re a small family of 3 so the space in all of these cars is definitely adequate for our needs, and while I personally want AWD we live in an area where I rarely, if ever, need it so it’s definitely not necessary. We’re going to most likely go with the one she likes the most, but I feel so overwhelmed with the amount of information I’ve taken in about cars over the past week so I wanted to get some opinions from people and make sure I didn’t overlook anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
