A place for people to talk about water fasting. By water fasting we mean that we abstain from food and drink except for water.

So basically i started fasting in the beginning mainly because of my face fat. I wasn’t overweight or anything and in fact pretty skinny about 155lbs at 6,1. I started about 3 months ago at first i did a 5 day water fast my face got very slimmer and i was happy with the results. About a week after the fast i was eating as regular i had gained even more weight and face fat as before and was at about 160lbs. For this reason i decided to do another 5 day fast and eat healthy afterwards. So i did and lasted about 3 days eating healthy than went back into back habits and ate as regular again so i gained my weight back again and at about 162 pounds and gained more face fat. After this i just wanted my original weight back so i start doing 4 day fast and 4 hour refeed periods i am currently doing this it’s been about a month and im at currently 145lbs so under the weight i started at. I’m happy with my face and weight now but dont want to start eating again because i dont want to regain all that weight and face fat. So how could i maintain my new weight of 145lbs and stop fasting? Is it even possible? i feel like my metabolism has gotten worst or something
M/30/168cm before: 98.5kg after: 92.8kg. Its tough ngl. Since this is my first consecutive day fasting the struggle each day is no joke. Day 1-2 is the easiest, I can get through easily. Day 3-5 the headache begin, late night cravings and low energy during the midday. Day 5-7 by far is the weirdest one, almost no energy during mid day, cramps and constantly sleepy. But the result is astounding compared to my previous diet attempts. Might start another week tomorrow hopefully my body will adapt better.
Any tips that you guys and gals can share would be great. Wish me luck 😁😁
Here with a check-in that I am doing fine :). Lessons learned so far:
If you supplement electrolytes on regular basis most of the problems go away (I supplement a glass in the morning and then one in the afternoon which is double-dose of normal needs; I supplement pure electrolytes without any glucose etc.)
The longer you go, the easier it is to hanlde. I am just one week away from my success. Scientist in NASA proved that after 25-30 days of none-stop activity creates a habbit (https://www.samhazledine.com/sams-blog/index.php/2015/01/16/30-days-to-change-a-habit). Now as I am approaching day 25 I handle all the struggles waaay better than in day ~10-15 :)
Communities help! I check this thread every day for information and inspiration. I also joined the WhasApp group for my time of fast. I have even one friend that keeps his fingers crossed and awaits my updates in my local chat :D. That's super-nice!
Finding yourself things to do (a.k.a. "killing your time") really does the work. I am currently wathching "That 70s show" (just finished season 1). And that's the reason why for me it's way easier to fast during work-week than on weekends. Weekends are the worst (and that's where "That 70s show" and director version of "Lord of the Rings" kick in) :)
Wish you all nice fast and thank you all for keeping in touch :D
PS
Things to do: Tomorrow I plan to order beef bones to get myself prepared for weekend as I will be doing bone broth that cooks for 48h! Also this week is to get the 2 packages of my meat that I ordered and plan the food for next week. I will go easy on myself.
I started fasting this morning (Sunday, Oct. 27th) at 6am and plan to go until November 10th. I've gained weight and no longer recognize or feel like myself. I feel stuck in a rut but am hoping to take back control of my life.
Height: 5'5"
Starting weight: 171.2
1st goal weight: 150
2nd goal weight: 135
24 hour update: weighed myself and am now at 168.2 :)
48 hour update: weighed in at 167.8
72 hour update: 166.0
I'm starting a fast tomorrow, possibly a week. But I'm worried how it'll affect my performance with school stuff. What do you guys think I should do.
What vitamins/supplements should I take to help not losing any hair during the water fast? Any Amazon links would be helpful.
I am going to use pink Hama. Salt for electrolytes as well, but I also dont wanna lose hair, people say they lose a bunch during the fast
Hello all!
I started my weight loss journey 5 months ago (June 2024) and for the first 2 months I did a 10 day water fast each month. I have now stopped fasting, however still continuing my low carb/keto diet. I have lost 44 lbs so far - the first 20 lbs thanks to the water fast. This being said, I am suffering from (extremely) excessive hairfall since the last 2 months. Is this because of the water fast/diet? Is there anyway to arrest. My hair is coming out in locks every time I run my fingers through it. I guess I probably lose 500+ hair strands everyday. This is my worst nightmare...
Tbh I am a little reluctant about seeing a doctor because I have a feeling they might ask me to stop the diet, but is there any other way to work around it? I am already taking multi vitamins and iron supplements.
WHY CANT I JUST MAKE IT PAST 1 DAY?? Why does it seem so hard just to fast. I keep losing to food feeling like a weak B*tch and I hate it Man.
Hi I recently finished an eight day water fast and have noticed that my hearing has improved significantly. I can now listen to music comfortably at a 40% decrease in volume. I believe this has also helped resolve my tinnitus. (My sense of smell has also increased; sweet smells seem to make me very nauseous). Has anyone else experienced this while/post fast?
So I have lost a substantial amount of weight from water fasting and I have 50 pounds left to lose, I usually do extended fasts whether it’s a week or two weeks. I have found that my weight loss has slowed although I’m not doing anything different. Is this normal for weight loss to slow even though I’m still a substantial ways away from my goal ?
I’ve been water fasting since Oct 11..broke fast a few times for about 20 min and go right back on to fasting. My longest fast has been for 82 hrs. Right now I hit the 80 hr mark on my water fast. Don’t understand why sometime my glucose will be 88, 110, 121, 161, 180, and like this morning it was 140 without any food, just water? My ketone sticks have shown .5 and this morning none???? I have gone from 259-237 lbs since Oct 11, 2024. Can anyone tell me why my glucose level seem to be high while 80 hrs into fast? Thanks.
I often see people in this group say they’ve fasted for 1 or 2 months, and I am aware of the man who fasted for nearly a year straight, but I’m curious (as a 5’4 215 lbs F) would I be able to water fast for 4 months straight as long as I am very careful and make sure to have the correct electrolytes every day?
I wouldn’t be doing any strenuous exercises (only 2-3 hour light walks during the day), and I would get quality sleep. I don’t want to know the possible risks (I already know the risks of prolonged fasting) or have anyone tell me not to do it because it’s dangerous or have anyone provide “alternative fasting schedules”. I just want to know if it’s possible and if I would be okay proceeding with it because I haven’t seen anyone on any of the fasting pages on this app go for nearly that long.
Started today at 10am... Go till November 24th. Let's go!! I'm already down 57lbs this year. Trying to make a big push in the end of the year with a water fast till Thanksgiving, then right after Thanksgiving jump into another juice fast. CW 343 GOAL 250
Hey everyone! I’m starting my journey with a current weight (CW) of 363 lbs and a goal weight (GW) of 250 lbs. I’m calling on all my bigback brothers and sisters to join me on what I’m calling the “Jesus Fast” to tackle our food habits together. If anyone’s interested, I’d love to set up a Discord or Reddit group where we can support each other and stay accountable. Let’s motivate each other and make this journey together! Who’s with me? Currently 13 hours in and counting.
I am water fasting and am worried because I have my cycle coming up. Previously I fasted 28 days, had my cycle, but I was anaemic afterwards. I have since fixed this but, would like to know if I should break for my cycle and then continue after or take iron or what I can really do to ensure I’m not anaemic. 🥺Thanks in advance 💕
Decided to kick the booze (would go through 6 tall boys multiple nights a week) and jump into a water fast after a day of pre fast prep. That included eating lots of kefir, eggs, raw cheese and fish oil. Going to break the fast on day 8. Plan is to eat watermelon, bone broth, kefir and other appetizing fruits for the first day, then get back into eggs, beef and cheese the day after that. Using a calorie deficit calculator I’ll be eating 1980 cal while getting back to the gym to get down to 210lb by Christmas. Difficult journey but it’s more than worth it. Stay strong everyone
Hello, I've been recently diagnosed with gout and I wanted to lose some weight. I've water fasted 5-7 days a couple of times before and I wanted to do a 4 weeks fast but I'm not sure if it's wise with gout. Anyone has experience water-fasting with gout?
Hey all, i just took a 3 day break to give my body a rest after fasting for 35 days. But now im gonna do an even harder challenge to lose more weight. I was 277 pounds when i started my 35 day fast after completing it i am now 236 pounds. If i complete this 50 day water fast i should be at 180. I bought a measuring water bottle so i know how much water i'm drinking, i also bought a lot of electrolytes so i dont run out this time lol. If you want to ask me questions and how my process is going just private message me.
Started yesterday. I was hoping to do 2-3 weeks fast but since I am a first timer, I want to see if I can survive 7 days at least. It's been 2nd day and felt like I have no energy. My head felt a bit of ache but it still manageable. Will keep on this path. Hope for the best.
As the title suggests, gonna go all out on this one last fast before finishing this stressful year, hoping for a complete clean up of myself both physically and spiritualy....I know quite a bit about this but if u guys have any info on electrolytes please feel free to drop. and if anyone wanna join in the exact same thing, you're more than welcome! My sw: 85kg, GW: 62kg, 171cm M
I have shared care of my child with my ex.
Holy moly is it a difference when you have to cook and care for a child while -not- being able to eat or taste the food you make.
Days I don’t have her it’s not even a struggle.
Curious for those coming off a longer fast though: how did you go about re-establishing gut bacteria? I know that one fella ate some psyllium husks but I kinda enjoy not devoting my time to the toilet.
Was thinking a probiotic with light food but yeah, curious what others have done.
Noted here for acid reflux:
Bicarb Soda in water has been a good stopgap for my reflux, especially as the liquid solutions (gavascon etc) actually have a minute, but measurable amount of calories.
Hi, im 26F weighing 180pounds. I am aiming to get to 145pounds (im 170cm tall). I prev fasted 16/8 and omad but was inconsistent. Ive decided to go cold turkey into a water fast for 21 days for weight loss and for clarity sake. I have to admit i gained all this weight due to a stressful job and toxic work environment that had me turn to food for comfort. And im ready for a new change in my life beginning with this fast. Im terrified and yet excited for this. Id really appreciate your advice/tips about water fasting. And should i workout like walking or can i lift weights from time to time. Thanks
Hello Water Fasters :)
I got inspired by RonniePonnies and decided to upload my check-in here as it's not that easy to fast (mainly due to boredome :P).
* * *
Height: 182cm (6'0)
Weight: 126,7kg (279)
Days fasting: 16 (406h 35min to be exact)
Last meal: 05.10.2024 (Saturday 15:30 CET)
I wanted to reboot my organism as I hit the wall with loosing weight. I also gained some extra kilos during holidays in Spail lol. So far I feel fine... just this boredome and kind of constant feeling of "waiting" makes me unhappy :P
Yesterday I started searching web for more water-fast info and reminded myself of Reddit! Nice that you all post here, happy to join the community :)!
Cheers from Poland!
Hi all,
I'm an experienced low carb/keto practitioner and intermittent faster, been doing that for years.
But I cannot for the life of me do a prolonged fast and not feel like total crap. It's not a willpower issue, I suffering from chronic headaches and pain and am very motivated to do anything to deal with it. Keto helps me to some degree against pain but never enough. I manage to get myself to a 24 hour-ish fast now while feeling fine but when i go any step further it becomes pure torture. What I experience is not necessarily hunger or thirst (I have done both dry and water fasting) but what I experience is extreme fatigue, dizziness upon standing up, depression, pains in my upper legs, nausea, brain fog and lack of focus and my heart starts to beat like crazy. These symptoms get worse every hour and I HAVE to stop otherwise I think I will faint, throw up or maybe get a heart attack or something. No joke. And I get completely sick of all keto/carnivore foods and only want pizza or french fries. And yes, I have used electrolytes like salt, potassium, and magnesium. Since I have been doing low carb for years, I do not see how I can STILL not be keto-adapted. I mean, come on.
I get some of those symptoms also during carnivore/ZERO carb though, but milder. I have been doing a diet of eggs, meat, fish and cheese only for the last 3 weeks. It makes me feel like shit as well, though not as extremely as prolonged fasting.
There is a possibility I may suffer from other issues like candida/lyme/low cortisol as I have quite a few auto-immune symptoms like skin issues.
I'm hoping for some tips or suggestions. One thing I fail at is getting up early as it depresses the hell out of me, and so circadian rhythm hasn't been explored properly yet. Not sure what to do. I want to experience that autophagy and 'fasting high'.
Cheers,
J

I'm just very sick of my weight after getting my life out of hands. Gained too quickly too much. Fasting helped me a lot before so I might just do it again even tho this will only get me closer to my goal. I really want to be 200lbs by the end of the year.
This post is mainly for me to have something to look forward to while fasting as it's so important. I will update my weight and mood.
I'm using salt and potassium rest is pure water.
I do use Easy fast app and Life app
Fingers crossed :)
Surely I'm always looking for people to share experiences with so you can DM me or comment :)
I work as an overnight stocker at walmart. I work 4 days a week and In one shift i can easily get 12k+ steps. I work in the homelines section so occassionally im lifting microwaves, vacuums and boxes of like up to 200qt storage bins.
Im 5’2 and weight about 145 lbs. i used to be 200 but ive lost weight and now i have slight abs and gained muscle with this job. The most ive ever fasrd was 3 days and that was before i got this job.
Anybody got experience fasting with a job like this?
I struggle after 3 days at work and I drive for my job, I want to fast for way longer then 3 days, I have trouble with using food as a coping mechanism for my problems. But whenever I fast I can't get past 3 days I've done it twice now, once I lost about 10lbs the other time I only lost about 2, the 2nd time I was not as active as the first time and I was drinking animo and taking magnisum potassium multi and such, which kinda made me feel better? But I still feel light headed and just out of it like im high or somthing. I'm struggling. I also adore food way to much. 175, looking to go to 140
