A place for people to talk about water fasting. By water fasting we mean that we abstain from food and drink except for water.

Dear Fasters. I have recently ordered an electrolyte supplement (LMNT powder) that claims to be fast friendly. Yet each sachet is 10 calories. If I were to take one to two of these daily on a week long fast is this enough to prevent autophagy?
Thank you very much.
Having previously decided to extend my planned 90 day fast to 120 days; I have had to stop prematurely after 106 days due to increasing difficulty controlling abdominal cramping.
I started on October 15th at 380lbs and ended up at 261lbs.
So far, the refeeding process is going well, and my energy level is growing every day.
Not new to fasting as I’ve done several over fast few years with longest being 12 days. I occasionally will drink a diet drink when cravings hit or a few cups of black coffee in the morning does that stall any progress?
Im on day 7 of my planned 7 day fast, but I’m honestly feeling pretty good right now. Im thinking of extending the fast to 14 days, however I’m a little worried about the current electrolyte pills I’ve been using.
It started out with me just taking one serving a day, but the longer the fast has gone ive increased that to 2 servings because i started to get some cramps, headaches, and increased heart rate. Now at day 7 I feel like i need to take even more. Is this normal for any of you more experienced fasters?
I’ve posted a picture of the current supplement I take. I wonder if whats in it just isn’t enough in the first place, and i could use a little input. Seeing as i need more now anyways, does anyone have any suggestions for a replacement, so that don’t have to shove 6 of these pills down my throat?
Also since this is my first longer water fast is there anything else y’all think i should take? Im currently taking, along with the electrolytes, some vitamin D ( because I’m low on it currently ) and some b12.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks for reading.
In 2018 I fasted 40 days water only. Why? Because three weeks of personal introspection, reflection, and critical thinking analysis had not confirmed a decision I made to hand over to someone else the leadership of an important board I chaired. The 40 days' water only fasting broke all my preconceptions about the nature of fasting. I got my personal confirmation early on the morning of Day 41. Thank goodness. I'd had enough of the fasting. But I was prepared to keep going if I did not experience crystal clear, unambiguous, YES (or NO) answer to my fasting question: Should I hand over to someone else?
I did 40 days fasting water only again last year starting at midnight 31 October 2024. Similar experience to 2018. But the nausea that started around Day 26 was different from 2018. This time by Day 37 las year nausea was so severe that I dropped into intermittent fasting for Days 38, 39 and 40.

Hey everyone, I (22F) want to lose alot of weight. I've gone to dietists, doctors, fat camps, life style coaches and nothing works. I've taken to skipping meals at first but my parent want me to atleast eat dinner and I can't exactly hide it if I fast during dinner. Same problem when I go over to my boyfriends place, hence why I don't plan to fast on weekends. (Sidenote: he will get worried if I tell him I'm trying this weightloss plan)
I drink lots and lots of water to help with the fasting and the past 3 days everything has been going fine, I'm a lot less bloated and I hope I will start to lose weight soon.
Now for my question, has anyone done the OMAD diet/23:1 fasting here and if so, any tips? When can I expect to see results? Will there be results?
Gonna start 18:6 fasting any tips? As in should o count calories? Ima be eating from 12pm-6pm , how long will it take to see results!? Ima be going to the gym as well
I've broken my 10 day fast with chicken noodle soup in the past and felt amazing, but was told that any type of carbs after an extended fast will make you lose all your progress in terms of weight loss. Am I better off breaking it with the soup or avocado with eggs? Thanks in advance!
I'm very new at water fasting. I still don't have my electrolytes tablets so I'm wondering if it's okay to have milk or juice ? Also, I want to to lose weight. That's my main objective but I also want to discipline myself and I've found fasting makes me happy
motivation please 💪🏻
Sad to say I had to end my water fast earlier than expected. Today is the 6th day of my water fast. I had enjoyed the few days of my fast. However, I also noticed some health issues. Namely, I would feel light headed. I almost fainted while in the shower today. I had scheduled a check up with my doctor to better understand my body. Hopefully, I can try water fast again next time. But in the mean time, I have decided to move to an IF keto diet.
I'm starting a waterfast, hope to last as long as I can.
Posting on here for accountability - been fasting for 48 hrs then a meal for the last week but want full healing effects so need to last longer.
Going to attempt to do 60+ hours and hopefully more as past 60 hours you’ve done the hardest part.
Already lost 3kg all fat as I’ve refeeded a few times then weighed and it’s stayed off.
Starting weight: 107.6kg Predicted ending weight (@0.6kg a day for me is about what I loose) so around 105.8. Height: 6”4
Hello ! After almost a year I began another water fast cycle. I was terribly cat and depressões
I'm on my 4th day. 30 y.o male 6ft3 starting weight whas 271lbs (123kgs)
I'm ending my 4th day at 259lbs (117.5kg)
I used to only do 6days water fast bc on Sunday, we have a tradition and eat barbecue with my das
But I'll try my best to extend this to 10 days or more
My weight goal is 185-187lbs (around 84 to 87kgs). But I'm realistic that it would take 3 or 4 water fast cycle to achieve that goal
As today I'm only drinking water, and "tereré" (a paraguayan drink, it's yerba mate in a Cup, with a metal filter straw, with cold water, which I add mint tea and green tea)
Theorically that's 0 sugar 0 calories. Just dryed plants(the tea bags)
I'm not taking any electrolites supplements
I have 10 multi vitamins pills that I'm planning to take 1 a day If I go past the 7th day.
I'm also not working out even a bit. I'll start lifting weights(only biceps and chest) starting tomorrow and walking a 1 mile and a half.
Any suggestions to maximize the fat loss?
Could I take drinks like Gatorade or Powerade(the sugar free 0 kcal versions)?
Could this break my fast or can I take it
Beginning a 2 week fast. Posting it here for accountability. Anyone interested to join me on this, dm me. I'll update in the comments precisely 14 days after.
Hello everyone. I am new to fasting. I am on my third day of water fasting for weight loss. Before I started water fasting, I was on IF for a week. On my first two days, I felt completely fine. There were little signs of hunger pangs. I only had water and some cold medicine for the first two days. Today, I tried some cold brew coffee to switch things up. Today, I felt more hunger pangs (still manageable) and I also felt light headed. I also felt dizzy and shaky when I tried to exercise. I also had some salt to help with electrolyte.
Some information about me: I am 5’5” Male Age: 21 Hour 0: 209 lb Hour 60: 203.2 lb
Any advice for if I want to continue?
Hello! I'm almost finished with my 21 day water fast, but I feel AWFUL. I've done extended fasts before, and never felt this bad. My stomach hurts so bad and even the thought of food makes me want to throw up. I have a ton of things I need to do for work and school, so I can't lay down like I want to. Please tell me that this will go away soon? Any idea what is causing it?
I cut short my first 30-day water fast because my heart rate significantly increased l. I noticed it on day 3 and it didn’t improve even on day 4, so I ended the fast, just to be on the safe side.
My resting heart rate was 102 bpm, and when I walked through my house it went up to 124bpm. Is this normal? Does anyone else experience this? If yes, did you still proceed with the fast ?
So I am thinking about getting my jaw position fixed to be ready for braces afterwards. Any experience with this is welcome too :)
I'am 172cm with 68kgs, athletic and an experienced faster, with 42 days and 16h as my "personal best".
Does anyone have experience with going into an operation while fasting?
How did it influence anesthesia?
I'd do a 72h water fast before the procedure and maybe extending it to 7-10 days total for the assumed benefits of:
*sped up healing process
*less load on the body while being under anesthesia
*eating will be difficult anyway
Today is my last day of my water fast and although I cannot wait to have some food tomorrow, I’m kind of sad to see it end.
What was your first “meal” after a fast? Just curious zero judgement from me.
Start: 22 january > 5 march
Cycle: 7 days wasting fasting > 2 days of eating soups until 5th of march
Hi looking for some advice
Looking to start a 48 hour weekly fast starting at 5pm Friday night and ending Sunday 5pm
For some background I am 6ft 13.5 stone Weight lift x2 MMA x2 Boxing x1 Sauna x3-5
I will be fasting on my rest days
Currently doing 2 meals a day and hitting all my macros and calories
Not fasting for any weight loss reason. Mainly my reason for fasting are I feeling amazing (mentally) when doing so and for the health reason (autophagy)
I would do 48 hours every month or so but really wanted to try 48 hours every week
Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated
I feel great. I've been drinking every day since the beginning of last summer. I just decided that I'd had enough. The goal is week or two. Was in deep depression.
Ordered Electrolytes for long term sessions
My parameters: ~130kg, 185cm high
Any who’s around 18-22 that has done a fast for 10-40 days? If so how was it and how did you lose and how can I lose more I’m on day one.
Hi, I'm 250lb 28F and looking into longer term waterfasting I've been doing intermittent fasting and OMAD for a while but I'm looking for more science/info/ encouragement
What youtube videos could I watch to help me understand a healthful way to do waterfasting and how to also break fast well.
Thanks
I’m 34 years old, 169 cm tall, and currently weigh 96 kg. I’ve tried water fasting before, with my longest fast lasting 6 days. Last year, I successfully lost 20 kg but have since regained 5 kg. I’m committed to continuing my fitness journey and plan to incorporate both strength training and cardio at the gym. Has anyone here pursued a similar approach? I’d love to hear your advice or experiences!
p.s Going on Holiday in less then 2 month. Want to look good again.
