Hi all,
I’ve recently moved to Vancouver Island and am looking to start hiking the Island 6000 – the 6,000-foot peaks across the island. I’ve hiked many challenging trails in the past, including some serious scrambles, and I’m excited to explore what this incredible place has to offer.
If anyone is interested in joining me on these hikes or has experience with the Island 6000 list, I’d love to connect and share the adventure. Let me know if you’re up for some tough hikes and great views!
Looking forward to meeting some fellow hikers.
This sweet girl is Nina. She’s healthy, young, sweet, and smart. She’s been waiting for her special person. Could that be you?
I couldn’t believe she was all alone on the street and no one came to claim her. Now she’s spayed, vaccinated, and ready for adoption.
Nina is definitely going to be a blessing to a lucky someone’s home. She already follows basic commands and is very eager to please (making training that much easier). And she’s great with kids and other pets (cats and dogs).
I’ve been fostering her for a little over a month and I just know she is someone’s soul dog, about to connect with her perfect forever family at just the right time.
She’s being promoted by a rescue I’ve successfully worked with multiple times to send precious, under-appreciated Mexican dogs to enjoy happy lives in BC.
Please msg me to learn more!

Waterfronts are arguably among the healthiest places for all living beings, including humans, to gather and thrive. They represent the pinnacle of ecosystems, serving as vital hubs of biodiversity and natural beauty. However, much of the waterfront property in densely populated urban areas—on Vancouver Island and elsewhere—is privately owned. This is largely a product of history: until the latter half of the 20th century, the population was sparse, and land was abundant.
Today, however, access to waterfronts is restricted to a privileged few. Again, this isn’t about political ideology—it's simply historical fact. But looking ahead, could we consider a future where public funds, through democratic and transparent processes, are used to purchase waterfront properties when they come onto the market? Such an initiative could help return some of these spaces to the public domain.
Expanding public access to waterfronts could provide widespread benefits, including enhanced physical and mental health for communities. The resulting improvements might even contribute to reducing the staggering costs of healthcare, creating a win-win scenario for both society and the environment.
I watched a raven acting weird in my garden this morning, then realized she was burying something. Waited a few hours and then went to check it out. She buried an egg in my garden!! I covered it back up after my photo shoot, cause I bet it was hard to get ahold of this and I don’t want her to lose it Lol! A
I'm bored of the island. I absolutely love it here but it's so expensive. No music scene (i live in north island). Not alot of things to do besides hiking and outdoors stuff. Don't get me wrong, I love that stuff but I've done that for years and feel I need a change of scenery. Looking for somewhere more affordable. Also more job opportunities. Cool people and a cool music scene would be rad too. Any suggestions?
Looking at the potential of buying a home in Duncan, Lady Smith or Port Alberni. Previously lived in Gibsons and Powell River so use to being gate keeped by BC Ferries. Very outdoor rec focused with mtn and gravel biking, trail running and hiking. Work remotely so can live anywhere with an internet connection. Would like to put down roots with a home and make friends, build community etc. use to date a girl from Nanaimo so have visited comox valley, Nanaimo, Duncan, ladysmith, Port Alberni, Tofino etc so I have somewhat of an experience of the island and plan to spend more time on the island before picking somewhere to move but doesn’t hurt to ask for others views on potential places to move to
Does anyone know when Wai Heung Chinese food restaurant in Saanichton plans to re-open? I know they had a fire there and we’re wondering when they will be back. Thanks!
Hello! I’m wondering if anyone can recommend a small town pub anywhere on Vancouver Island. I’m looking for somewhere not too busy. Maybe with some character and history (not a dumpy, dive bar) to have a few beers with a buddy and a good chat. Definitely NOT anywhere in Victoria or Nanaimo. I’m really looking for a SMALL town.
Thanks!

Posted 9 days ago, interesting look back to original days of the Malahat.
are there any good restaurants reco open around 6pm still within victoria?
Hello. I'm planning my trip to Vancouver Island and would like to book a wildlife boat tour, in particular hoping to see sea otters and bears. Most of the ones I've seen are for kids over 10 beacuse they involve trekking and on land activities (which I understand wouldn't be safe for a child). Is there any 3/4 hours wildlife tour safe/accessible for young kids?
Saw last night that Mt Washington has 2.5m base already. Unbelievable!
Just stay safe out there- read that SAR is already doing 2 rescues and avalanche risk is high.
I am looking to find a quality tattoo shop that is open to directly working from specific reference images. I need a design translated 1:1 with little to no alterations. The previous shop I was planning to go to would only work from their artist's own designs and would not want to copy anything. Any pointers especially around Langford/Victoria would be appreciated.
Hi everyone, I live in rural England and spend a lot of time on Google Earth exploring, and I must say Vancouver island looks like one of the most beautiful places on earth to visit. If I am ever wealthy enough to move and live there, every chance I get I would be hiking in the forests and mountains. How often do islanders explore this beautiful place, or is it mostly taken for granted?
We are new to the Nanaimo area. Looking for farm fresh egg stands in the area. Is there such a thing here? We are from Agassiz where egg stands we around every block it seemed.
Long shot but does Anyone have an original copy of Vancouver Island Sucks CD released in 1999 with the booklet?
These were in a plastic sleeve on a burned CD with a photocopied booklet.
I'm looking to work on the island for 6 months to a year. I had planned to go to Tofino but I hear it's next to impossible to get accommodation so I'm looking at other options, where are other places that are nice and relatively easy to get work?
Edit: I currently work on the front desk at a lodge, I also have experience as a shop manager, housekeeper and a server. Happy to do any work. I don't mind being a bit remote but would like to be within an hour drive of a city or town. Being close to the coast for surfing would be ideal
Hi everyone! My family and I are searching for a great place to celebrate my dad’s upcoming 70th birthday somewhere on Vancouver Island. We are all born and raised on the island so we are very familiar with the area. We are looking for either a nice big house/ cabin that can fit 8 people and 3 dogs, or (preferably) 4 smaller cabins that we can rent out to accommodate the same amount of people. All of the spots I know of are already booked or have a week stay minimum over high season. We are looking to go August 8-11 2025. I’m open to all areas of the island and even smaller islands off the island. Thanks so much in advance!
This is a long shot, but is anyone planning to travel from Duncan to the Vancouver area any time soon? My partner is pregnant and has her eyes on a recliner in Duncan. If anyone is already planning on coming to Vancouver some time soon, we'd be happy to cover your ferry here if you could bring it with you!
Transit options aren’t really great from Tofino to either of the ferry terminals!
I’m visiting this weekend for oyster fest but friends are leaving early for work and it would be great to find carpools driving back home Monday
Looking for a mount washington (obvs the BC one) sub. Whistler has one, anything similar?
I’m new to the Victoria area (Saanich) and am wondering what you guys would recommend for a good tattoo artist, using illustrative style, and a good place for getting like septum jewelry, as well as just getting a piercing done.
Any recommendations?
I dropped off my daughter at school this morning, and decided to head down to the local boat launch. A dozen other cars were there with the exact same idea. I stood out there for a minute recording, and was soaked.
This video was recorded at Ken Forde boat launch in southern Campbell River.
