hey, is anyone currently or has in the recent past, taken 225 and 415? i'm curious what the quality of the professors have been recently and how difficult either of these classes are. these are the best options for the linear algebra req. for my major since i don't know python.
I’m a biochem major with hopes to go to med school. I was wondering what volunteer activities are around campus to gain experience in the field. Also, how do I get an EMT or CNA license as I’m considering getting one of them? I’m leaning towards EMT as I find it interesting.
M19, Sophmore
I am going to go on a rant because I feel like shit and want to know if others have similar experiences.
I don’t know what I am doing in college. Like I love my major (CompE) but I’m a shitty student and barely pass required math and physics courses. I’m also from a small farm town in Southern Illinois and had no exposure to higher education and engineering. I don’t feel like I fit in with the rest is the people that are cracked and get A’s while doing RSO’s and doing internships. I feel the pressure of having to do more like research and leadership roles and advance courses but i can’t even do the minimum.
I also have no clue how I am going to pay for school next year. I got like nothing rn and am trying my best to get a good internship but have gotten two preliminary emails after 100+ applications. I am also going for a scholarship offered to semiconductor minors that pays for the rest of my schooling, but like I said I have terrible grades and they don’t look at extracurriculars. I can’t help but feel like it’s my fault I can’t make this happen.
Also the social scene for me is awful too. I cannot be the only one who feels disconnected from everyone. I got bad social anxiety but still used to be able to make friends. However here I talk to a max of two people I know. I try going to clubs and RSO’s but no one connects outside of those environments. There’s nothing to do in Champaign besides drinking and walking to the Japan house. I mean I can spin the crank on the sculpture at MechE building but one can only do that for so long until they get bored.
I’m probably wilding rn because I’m burned out and at peak stress capacity but this is how I’m feel right now
Im in the class right now and tbh compared to other classes ive taken it’s on the easier side. No exams and the labs are fine if u start on Monday. Only hard part maybe is the quiz based on your TA. Compared to ECE 210 391 313 310 CS 446 421 425 374 it’s easier. Honestly the prof is amazing too especially when compared to ones that teach in the ECE and CS departments.
So last night, my roommate came back from KAMS absolutely hammered while I was sleeping. I wake up this morning to the smell of urine and my laptop is all sticky. I confronted him about it in the morning and he said “It wasn’t that deep.” I was furious—like, how is that not a big deal?
I told him it was disgusting, and now we haven’t spoken all day. I cleaned up the mess and just needed space. He went to the ARC around 5, and I locked the door because I didn’t want to deal with him. He started banging on the door an hour ago, but then he just stopped.
Now I'm sitting here with his calls ringing and debating whether to open the door or keep ignoring him. Should I let him in to talk about it or just keep my distance? What would you guys do?
Looking to add a fun class to my schedule for the next semesters. Any recommendations for classes that are interesting, easy-going, or just genuinely enjoyable? Let me know what you’d suggest!
I’m hoping to do my masters at uiuc next year and I’m curious if anyone knows what the acceptance rate for gies is??
I'm a current 19f sophomore majoring in economics looking for a roommate next year! I have a couple of apartments in mind but I have not decided yet, so we can apartment hunt together. I want to stay in a 4 bed/ 2bath or 3bed/1 or 2 bath with in-unit washer/dryer on campus.
About me: I like to watch tv and film and I love music. I like to go to the gym. I can be a bit introverted but I like to come out of my shell and go out and have fun. I drink and sometimes smoke. I don't mind having people over.
Looking for people who are clean and respectful. Drinkers, smokers and partiers are welcome.
DM me if you're interested!
Does any premed have a crisp $20 bill burning a hole in their pocket and looking forward to the awesome and exciting task that is MCAT studying? Well, I have the product for you: A full set of my used 2023-2024 Kaplan books, and I'll even throw in a book the AAMC sent me called the guide to the MCAT or something.
Important: The books advertise an online resource, but this has already been redeemed by me and cannot be redeemed again, books may also have some (minor) writing.
I'm on campus, message me if interested and we can meet at the union or somewhere else public.
Just writing this to help out anyone who needs some extra money. For the past 2 months I've been using this AI tool called Insta Doodle (Link here) to make a decent amount of money on the side. It's a platform that allows you to generate whiteboard explanation videos. They're the type of videos you see on a lot of sales pages that explain the concept of whatever's being sold.
I've been creating and selling the videos to new ecommerce stores, Skool communities and on marketplaces like Fiverr, Freelancer, Upwork and believe it or not Etsy lol (I've also seen a few people selling them on eBay so I might try that in future). I sell basic videos for $20-$40 depending on length and upsell the voiceover which I use ElevenLabs to generate for an extra $20. Considering Insta Doodle is only $37 for lifetime access it's pretty easy to turn a profit, all you need is one sale basically and you've broken even.
On the marketplaces mentioned I just made listings and they're slowly getting more sales as they get reviews. I think success on Fiverr, Upwork and Etsy is more of a time thing, you write a decent pitch and then just wait for results. I also respond to any requests I see on Fiverr, Upwork and Freelancer where they're looking for whiteboard animation, product explanation videos or a product spokesperson (a whiteboard video is kind of a spokesperson lol).
As for selling to ecommerce stores and Skool communities I first tried cold emailing using mailing lists that I bought but I didn't have much success. I found the most success just dming accounts on Instagram and TikTok with a sales pitch, pricing and a couple example videos (The newer the business the easier they are to sell I've found). The conversion rate on these messages is actually pretty crazy, I haven't calculated the number but this is where I've made the most money.
Delete this post if it's not allowed but I thought it'd be helpful for anyone needing some extra money, we've all got bills haha.
It’s pretty clear (at least, I perceive it this way) that most people on campus are voting for Harris-Waltz this year’s presidential election. As part of this, most discussions I have are reasons that people support Kamala and her policies, as well as reasons people absolutely refuse to support Trump.
So, for Trump supporters or otherwise people who may be voting “against” Kamala rather than “for” Trump, why?
I expect this post will probably be seen as unnecessary or maybe inappropriate, but I believe that political discussion is incredibly important, no matter how repetitive or controversial it may be. Also, I’ve met many people on campus who dismiss Trump supporters as being horrible people solely based on their political opinions, which is ridiculous to me.
If you choose to vote for someone, of course I’m going to try and debate with you to see why (if I disagree), because that’s how the political scene in the US becomes more transparent and comprehensible. If you’re not comfortable posting publicly here, I would still appreciate a DM with an reasoning, since this post is largely for my own personal knowledge.
are there any groups/RSOs on campus that play smash bros? I read there might be tournaments at the union but I’m a very casual player. Just looking for a group to play with & have fun... thanks!
Does anyone know where I can get a bunch of laptop stickers like the block I keyboard stickers for free :| They make me happy 😔
