Is it possible to get a midterm accommodation for having fever without any medical proof? I live on-campus and I am not in a state visit hospital and have a midterm tomorrow. Will the Center of accessibility consider to give accomodation in this case?
Hello everyone! What are some of the ways that you guys organize your school tasks/work and life. What are some of the strategies, apps you use that work well? I've been using notion and it works well but I was curious about how other people organize themselves.
Do you know if there is a way to access past historical transactions e.g. 2023 academic year?
I am trying to find on Workday to no avail. Does that mean it has been wiped with the SSC to Workday migration?
I’m in my 4th year of my BA. I’ve maintained a decent gpa with work and extracurriculars all throughout undergrad (3.8gpa + internships). While there have been challenging times I’ve never done absolute trash in an entire semester, because I really love my degree and my work. HOWEVER, with grad school and law school applications and having to prepare for the LSAT, I’ve been completely spiralling this semester. I’m only taking 4 classes but it’s so hard for me to even focus and get shit done. I just wanna constantly be going outside and walking around listening to music, and I can’t focus on anything when I sit down to study. I’m so disappointed in myself that this would happen in my very last semester, and I don’t know how to snap out of it. I’m not failing anything, but I’m pretty sure I’m getting around B-‘s in everything right now— which sucks. On top of that, I’m so brain dead that I don’t even have the mental strength to do my hobbies.
Please give me advice.
does anyone know what time the gym closes? Online I can only see that SRC closes at 10, but I'm not sure if that means the gym closes earlier
Not sure if this is common on campus, but I've noticed that the time for the pedestrian-activated crosswalk at East Mall & Thunderbird Boul is way too short. I’m physically capable, but every time I try to cross that intersection, the light switches to the hand signal before I've even made it to the median. And that intersection isn't even a big one.
Do other people have this problem too? Since UBC is outside the City of Vancouver, I’m not sure who to contact about this, or if it’s even worth bringing up...
Hey everyone,
I just got accepted into Arts Co-op and I'm interested in working abroad for the summer rather than staying in Vancouver. While I know UBC has coop partnerships with places like Hong Kong and Japan, I'm particularly interested in Australia, Korea, London, Spain, or the US. Most posts I've found about this are quite dated, so I'd love to hear from anyone who has
Thanks in advance!
For science coop, I don't really want to do 3 work terms, can I technically do 1 or 2 work terms then leave coop? I know if i leave coop early it wont be on my degree but I can still write the jobs on my resume and gain work experience right?
Son looking to come to UBC in 2025 from the UK for a year. We don't know much about the university and city but what we do know looks good. Only concern is the weather. The app we use says rainiest month in London has 50mm of rain, whereas in Vancouver it's five times as much. Is this correct? Does this mean winter is raining all day every day?
For context, I live in a 4 bed dorm. This has never been an issue before with my old roomies but my new roommates it seems like they constantly have their girlfriends over, and im getting quite annoyed. They probably stay over 2-4 nights a week, how should I go about confronting them?
Wtf? Why does anyone do this? What do you gain? I literally don’t understand. For the third time this week? What a fucking joke. There are literally hundreds of ppl loosing sleep over this
Gahhhhhh
hi,
so I’ve been out of high school for over 4 years, and I pay rent (and have for years). However, I am severely disabled and cannot work full time (I pick up the very occasional shift here and there but my disability prevents me from working consistently so I have been on government disability assistance for about 4 years now).
Because of safety reasons caused by my disability, I cannot live alone. As much as I want to: it is too dangerous. I am on the list to move into government assisted living - but those wait times are years long so I have been forced to live with family.
My family does not support me financially in the slightest - I contribute to rent and food costs and they do not contribute to any tuition, supplies, or even clothing costs at all. I pay my own taxes and I am not listed as a dependent on either or my parent’s taxes (as far as I know). Yet, I can’t figure out if i am a dependent or independent student and I am trying to apply for student loans.
It seems that I should be an independent student, as I am paying for tuition, food, and shelter on my own. However, since my address is the same as my parents and I have not “been in the work force full time for an extended period” - I am unsure, I don’t know if disability assistance counts as being in the workforce. Although it seems like it would be discriminatory to basically punish me for not physically being able to work full time.
I do not want to apply as an independent student and get “over rewarded” and be stuck owing money that I can’t pay, however my situation does not match with the description on a dependent student and if I take into consideration both my parent’s incomes plus mine, I will be over the limit and not be able to receive any government help - even though I am not getting any financial support from any family (and disability assistance isn’t anywhere near enough for even one term).
I looked into making an appeal but that was a dead end and just created more questions than answers. My financial advisor has been useless in trying to figure this out. I was hoping maybe another disabled student has been in a similar situation and knew what to do.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Hi I'm new to a year-round rez and wondering about how we pay the monthly rent.
Housing only provides two options which are credit card and PAD (preauthorized debit payment). I have set PAD when I paid my October rent thinking it will automatically take money from my account monthly. However they didn't took my money yet. Do I have to be worried? Do I need to set PAD again?
Thanks in advance
Hi,
I am an international student. I have intention to apply for MA in Economics at UBC in 12 months. I try ti find co-op opportunities before having a placement in full time job.
Does the career management department support us in landing an internship/co-op before our master graduation?
I am going to be taking visa 180 in term two and I know that there is a $260 art kit needed for the tutorials but I've been drawing for quite some time and have racked up a lot of supplies already so I was wondering if any students who have the kit can list out what is needed? The bookstore took down the kit so I can't check there and I heard that there are specific sizes for drawing pads as well. Thank you so much!
I met this guy in first year, and when we met he was pretty tame, the occasional dodgy joke here and there, but nothing too serious. We both got into MECH and naturally we shared a lot of classes.
However, now whenever I'm studying with him or in a group, he always mocks me by making fun of my accent. It's gotten to the point where everything he says is in an Indian accent. If we ask him to come study with us, he says "DoN't tEll me wHAt tO do beTA."
Since I'm kind of shy I don't want to say anything in case he takes it in the wrong way and ditches me as a friend. However, it really hurts me.
What do you guys think I should do?
I saw like 2 ambulances going in the same direction prob like 10 minutes on marine drive towards west mall and main mall.
Anyone know if something happened ??
To anyone that has attended or is attending.
Grades were just released for the essays... Did anyone else get a shockingly LOW grade? Never done this poorly in my 3 years here - wanna see if it's just me or if others are likewise very bad
I'm trying to apply to the class of 2025/2026, took me an hour to write what is asked of me in the first part of the application, proceeded to click save. And guess what? All of my details I put down disappeared.
How are university websites like this??? How do most charge exurbant amounts for tuition for computer science courses and have a flaming trashcan of an admissions website. Have they not thought of hiring, or making it a requirement for some poor undergrad to make them a functional site???
Serious question though, if I type my answers out to a doc and paste them in so this happen again, is it flagged as plagiarism? Should I type out what I write on the doc again?
i can’t even float
I am a second year student, (suffering from biol200, chem233 and biol234), and this October really messed me up. I was usually ok dealing with anxiety, even in midterm seasons, such as those last year, but I don’t know what was it with this one that triggered multiple extreme anxiety attacks. Most of the time, I don’t even know what I’m panicking about. I was hoping some of you could share some tips and things you do to cool yourself down during these times. Thanks
Hi everyone,
Im not sure how many people in Canada knows about this, Valencia (SPAIN) was hit hard by Storm Dana, and the aftermath has been devastating. Homes are flooded, families are displaced, and essential resources are stretched thin. Unfortunately, the government’s response has been, frankly, abysmal, leaving a lot of people struggling without the support they need.
This is where we can step in and make a real difference. The Red Cross is actively working on the ground in Valencia, providing shelter, food, and medical care for those affected. Your donations will go directly towards these relief efforts, filling the gaps left by insufficient government aid.
How to Donate:
You can donate on the official Spanish Red Cross website here. Just choose your amount and add a note to specify it’s for Valencia’s relief efforts.
For those outside Spain, contact Cruz Roja Española at informa@cruzroja.es for bank transfer details, making sure to earmark the funds for Valencia.
If you’re unable to donate, sharing this message also helps! Awareness means more donations and support from those who can contribute.
Thank you so much, this means a lot to me, but more to the suffering of Valencians.
My Chem prof suspected some students want to skip Chem exam to study for their physics course exam. How come they know other departments’ courses exam times so well? This is so scary it’s like my life is all under their eyes lol(ps. I’m not skipping any exam)

How crowded is the src gym at around 8 pm?
Just a swing in the dark, wondering if there’s anyone that want to study together and help each other out, maybe just testing each other on knowledge or see how deep we understand the content
