Sweepstakes to win 2 tix to Turnpike at Red Rocks in May - backstage and dinner with artists included too!

Hi everyone - I wanted to share this online sweepstakes I thought was very worth sharing for TT fans. Basically by donating to Conscious Alliance, an organization that fights food insecurity nationwide, you are entered to win a fully expensed three day trip to Denver to see TT at Red Rocks. Backstage and side stage passes, dinner in the artist's catering, and 3 nights hotel room totally covered by Fandiem. Just thought it was a great way to donate to a great cause and also come up yourself perhaps. Here's the link to donate:

Any good way to get an autograph?

I’ve got a guitar I’ve been collecting many of my favorite artists signatures on and I’ve gotten quite a few since I started in January. I’m attending my first TT show in Macon despite listening for years. I’d love to see if I could get Felker or some of the boys to add to my guitar. Is TT generally easy to meet or not? I’d appreciate any tips or advice. Thanks!

Finally seeing them live again

Im so stoked to see them again. Been to a lot of their shows when I lived in Kansas, moved to NC at the end of ‘22 and found out they are playing close to me next Friday. Can’t believe they will be close. One of my favorite bands of all time, haven’t heard the new album live, can’t wait!! Anyone else from NC going to MerleFest?

Gone, Gone, Gone is an underrated song.

This song helped me a ton after a breakup. Paints a great picture of perseverance despite somber and solitude. One of my favorite turnpike songs. What do the people of Reddit think?

WANTED: Friday Night at Red Rocks

Anyone want to offload 2 tickets for Friday's show at Red Rocks to a fellow Turnpike superfan? Every resale platform is charging outrageous "processing fees" and I'm just seeing if there is a way to avoid them. Thanks!

Similar Artists

I see a lot of threads with recommendations if you like Turnpike etc. Been listening to Shane Smith and the Saints a lot today and think a lot of you may dig them. Not as consistent as TT, but they have some really high highs. Thought I’d share.

Presale for bonnet springs KS?

I just signed up but may be too late since the presale starts in an hour. Anyone know the code? Or another code from this summer as they are probably the same?

Scream-Singing 7&7 with my best friend

I'm sure I'm not the only one that has a TT song that jerks them back in time, for better or worse.

7&7 takes me back to 2013. I was invincible, having come back from my second deployment. Only one more year til my enlistment is over and the sky's the limit from there.

We were drunk more often than not. Replaying the same red-dirt mixtape CD over and over again.

How about yall

Happy 40th birthday to the frontman of the greatest country band of all time, Evan Felker.

“I was born in ‘84 And I’ve been as free as I can be and I won’t ask for anymore”

One nugget about this song I love is that he changed the original lyrics of “Well, I'm 28 years old now” to “Well, I’m 30 somethin’ years old now” when he sings it live. Assuming he’ll now have to change that again to 40 somethin’!

Turnpike fans feedback

Felt inspired after listening to Unrung and wrote a little back-short-story. Always had a soft spot for the song, interested to see what other Turnpike fans think of it.

Unrung II

A guy walks into a bar, looks around, then orders a drink. A cold beer. Foam rises to the top, sweat drips down the outside of the glass. The bartender smiles pretty and slides the glass in front of him.

Inside his mind, there are many thoughts. Honest as they are perverse. Notice: the word was perverse, not perverted, though, they are not completely unrelated.

She is beautiful, maybe 10 years younger than him. A breath of fresh air in a life that has turned stale. He looks around the bar again, scanning for something to divert his attention. He is a married man, a good man—at a minimum, he is a man with aspirations of being good and thus, this old and new dimension of life that he’s stepped into has set off a minor stress reaction. A brief recognition that he himself has morphed into the trope of all tropes and that he is at risk of exposing himself.

How did this all happen so fast? One smile, the passing of a drink—a drink that was paid for… he reminds himself in shame.

But he doesn’t want to leave the bar. He doesn’t want her to leave his sight. He wants to feel what she reminds him of feeling. The rush of youth, the power of connection, the heat of uncovering and developing new intimacy. Two bodies crashing into each other without a care or a second thought. One focus, the desire to please one another. The want for someone to care about pleasing them—not acquiescing to them, but pleasing them, impressing them.

No nagging history of decision made or not made. No pretext. A fresh block of clay, malleable and ready to be molded.

The man has been married for eight years now. Not a milestone, nothing that would garner attention or adulation from his friends or family, but a sizable chunk of his life. He thinks back to the difference between his former mid-pubescent self wandering into the first day of his freshman year of high school and flashes forward to the hungover manchild staggering out of college graduation.

Eight years… He thinks. Yes… Time moves differently at this age… but still. Where did it go? Where did I go? Where did she go?

He is jettisoned out of his introspection by a side-eye glance of the bartender's midriff peaking out from her crop top. It is hard to hold resentment for his wife’s body in earnest with the way that he has let himself go, but he finds a way to do it. Two or three trips to the gym and an occasional pick-up basketball game squeezed into an otherwise self-destructive lifestyle is all he needs to delude himself into thinking that he’s holding up his end of the bargain.

Everyone has empathy for the woman for going through pregnancy, he almost mumbles allowed, as the buzz is starting to take a hold of him. But no one cares what the man goes through!

His eyes start to wobble in their sockets and a visible stress slides across his face.

No sex, bills, mood swings, trips to the doctor, trips back from the doctor, still no sex, more mood swings, more bills, trying to figure out how to pay the bills… He runs through the laundry list in his head. People talk about it tongue and cheek too… utterly without human compassion! The audacity!

By this time, the blonde, smiling portal to another life has given the man four beers and a shot of whiskey. He has finished all of them.

He realizes that it is 9:30 pm and he has to go soon. Another sobering reality crashes down on him, but he can’t pick out anything specific from the vague avalanche of anxiety.

Somewhere deep down in his heart, he may have known, but the truth was buried so deeply beneath layers of sluffs that it shouldn’t surprise anyone if he could pass a polygraphed inquisition. The flirtations with Claudia, the entry-level employee who reports to him at work. The gruff disposition he defaulted to when fear of supporting his wife and child gripped him. Every last time he let her down while she was carrying his child, things known and unknown, still lived inside of him, buried deep in the recesses of his soul beneath an opaque cloak of shame.

The man was inching closer to the edge, a cliff that if he were to tumble off of wouldn’t kill him—but it wouldn’t kill the man he was. The man who had any connection to his past truths or the realities of what got him to where he was in this life. Once he fell, that man was gone.

“Can I have one more beer?” He asked, with a cordial smile.

“Sure.” The bartender said with an expecting grin.

“And I’ll close it out.”

She pushed one more beer in front of him with the bill alongside of it. He took a sip of his “final beer” and reached for the pen and started to scribble his lazy signature on the bottom.

He looked up, saw that youthful body and her smiling face, and let the inertia of his despair carry him off the edge.

“Hey—what are you doing when you get off tonight?”

References to “shaking dominoes”: euphemism or did he just date someone who really liked dominoes?

In a few songs (Good Lord Lorrie and Pay No Rent for example) the band references playing dominoes.

Is dominoes a euphemism for drug use, gambling, or other risky decisions, or a literal reference to playing dominos games? My guess is that it’s a metaphor for gambling how you’ll act every time you drink or get high when you have an addiction, but I’ve never been certain.

Good Lord Lorrie: “Well De Queen's dry so I bought us both a bottle / In downtown Broken Bow / Lorries got a buddy with a double wide trailer / They were shaking dominos / And I had good intentions 'til I had too many / I was stupid, I suppose / You better put a little money where your mouth is, boy / And try to keep it closed”

Pay No Rent: “I hear the clicking of the dominoes / You shaking up a game / And if we lose a hand / I bet I'll know just who's to blame / But if we hear "twenty-one" / If we make that call / I better sit here in my chair / Just feeling ten feet tall”

“Now we're shaking up the dominoes / Beneath the neon light / Knowing anybody else out there / Couldn't put up a better fight / But the fighting time's over / Yeah it's all gone / You pick up the pieces / And we try to carry on”

Tattoo ideas?

Hi, my family and I are all big Turnpike fans and my sisters both have tattoos for my parents so I’m wanting to get one. We were separate from our parents at one of their shows and my dad sent a photo of him and my mom during Diamons and Gasoline and said it was their song so if anyone has ideas around that it’d be so appreciated!! For reference I’d prefer something minimalistic / fine line but open to ideas :) thanks!

Mainstream country song referencing Turnpike and D&G

I was walking through the local ranch store and they had the local mainstream country station on and a hokey main song caught my ear, they referenced Turnpike and Diamonds and Gasoline. Anyone know what song this is?

Turnpike was great. I don't think the sound was set for them. Probably more set for Cody but overall a great show.

3/10 Boise thread

I hustled back to town just in time to catch the last of TBT. I’ve seen them a million times at Targhee bluegrass so no worries. Crowd seemed to show up for Jinks and after the Tacoma thread I wasn’t sure what to expect for TT. Cody was good as usual.

Thankfully the sound was LOUD and super clear. Nice work to the extra mile folks on that. I was tickled to catch the Rut live and it’s so so good.

I gotta say, sober Evan is so much more active on stage then he used to be. So much more personable. All smiles. He had the crowd hook line and sinker and it was pretty much one giant sing along. I had to laugh because he mentioned the last time they played Boise was to like 200 people (pre pandemic).

Despite being the biggest venue I’ve seen TT in, it was by far the best. Up close seats didn’t hurt. Thanks for a fun night fellas.

A Cat in the Rain

When A Cat in the Rain came out months ago this sub was active with folks who didn't like the slickness of the production, and other various complaints.

With the benefit of time, can we all agree it's a very good album? I listen to it all the time and love it.

You only to get to keep 5 TT songs. What do you pick?

  1. Before the Devil Knows We’re Dead
  2. 7&7
  3. Something to Hold On to
  4. The Housefire
  5. KC Southern

This is hard but this is my list

Edit: really cool to see how many songs off the new record are being chosen. TT didn’t lose a step

Stapleton concert Petco issues

Did anyone go to the turnpike/Stapleton concert in San Diego? I swear they had the volume down to 50 percent. I thought something was wrong or that Petco must just be a bad venue, could barely hear over the people chattering behind me. Then Stapleton came on and everything was magically awesome. Do venues regularly shaft openers for some reason? I can't remember every seeing this before. I've been looking for a statement from Petco Park saying they had sound issues but haven't seen anything.
