My old student pc is staying in a drawer and I finally decided to take care of it to finance a m4 Mac mini.

It has poor battery as you could expect and the keyboard has 4 keys not working: « jkl; » Slight screen burn in defect. Never noticed it until then (see pictures)

Both the ram and SSD only take one slot (so that I could easily upgrade later)

Have an old thinkpad T440P which I bought in Germany in 2017. Switched the keyboard, upgraded the CPU to an i7 4700MQ, put in a 1TB Crucial SSD and a 99Wh battery. 16GB ram. Also comes with the GOOD 1080p IPS panel. This is one of the most upgradeable Thinkpads ever made. This one is basically maxed out though you could add more RAM and I think theres still a higher tier CPU. Old but still functions perfectly. Comes with a US adapter and EU adapter. Haven't used in years-comes clean with Windows 10. Very sturdy and a great classic Thinkpad keyboard along with ALL the ports they used to come with. Wi-Fi adapter is the AC7260 and it has the Sierra EM7345 card for LTE integrated. Would make a good light work laptop or if someone wants to play around with Linux.

Keyboard and trackpad are perfect. Has fingerprint scanner for logging into Windows. This Thinkpad came with an open RAM slot and was upgraded to 32 GB. It will take up to 48 GB if you want to upgrade it further. I have a T25 Frankenpad (T480 bottom, T25 keyboard, T490 screen) that I bought from XYtech in July 2022. I decided to stick with my T430 forever until I or it dies. I love the Frankenpad and it works perfectly -- it's still in mint condition with less than 10 hours use. It's basically just been a display/conversation piece for me and I want it to go to someone else who will enjoy it (and might actually use it!).

The screen protector is still the main display and the webcam, so it looks more glossy than it is. The white labels are removable, I added them above the F5/F6 keys that control brightness and the Pause/Break button.

Last example I can find on reddit was 4 years ago (here). Similar device but this one is high gamut FHD instead of 4K -- better IMO on a 14", better for battery life, and makes the dGPU (Nvidia MX150) usable for light gaming.

This Gen 1 for sale is the lightest one out there being a non-touch coming in at just under 2 lbs. Kinda jealous cause my Gen 3 is a bit heavier and thicker at the front...

Even gave the nipple a little scrub with some soap and water (no alcohol on them if you didn't know! They turn into goop!)

Description and past/known issues

Past issues: You can see on Lenovo's site it's had 2 warranty services done. When I purchased it in Summer 2022, the previous owner told me it had to be mailed in for warranty for some minor issue early on in Summer 2021, and that they received it back and it was fine since. That was not true as you can see by the second warranty service in Fall of 2022. I don't know the true nature of the initial service as I can't see the details. When I received it, the second port was not charging properly, it was only trickle charging when both of these ports should have full PD. I had upgraded the warranty, so after some hemming and hawing Lenovo agreed the port was bad and shipped a mobo and scheduled a repair. That repair mobo was actually also wonky and we had to try again. The second one was good, and it's had no hardware issues since. I noticed on Lenovo's Repair page that it says the last ticket was opened Sept-2022 and closed Oct-2023 but that's not correct, not sure why it's saying that. Look into the details of it and you can see it was closed Oct-2022 so it's weird it's saying 2023 on the summary, it's a typo. I've taken care with the ports since they're a common failure point, they both feel good . Besides that it has had no other repairs or replacements. I renewed the warranty once but it expired in 03/2024. It's still able to be re-activated but I believe it was about $140 for a year. Given that it had been fine for 1.5 (now 2) years, and the value of the computer was only about $450, I decided to let it lapse.

The only current known issue I have with it is that it will occasionally hang up when trying to wake up from sleep and show a blank screen and basically never wake up, requiring a power off and back on. This happens on average about once a month I would say. I did some searching and this is a fairly common issue across many thinkpad models that I didn't find any solution to. I don't put it to sleep with anything that isn't saved or in a cloud and so I honestly just haven't worried about it that much, and I just power it down then turn it back on when it does happen.

Alright I think that's about it. Hit me up with any other questions or photo requests but I think I have it covered pretty well. It's a solid computer despite the warranty history and a good price I think. I would have kept it for a few more years but I always wanted one with a matte touchscreen like my x280 has, and the Gen 3s came out with a semi-matte that's good enough for me and roped me in. The Gen 1 and 2 were glossy and the 3 has an anti-glare that's not as good as the old matte touch screens but it's close enough.
