.... around the 30th anniversary of his classic Reference To Difference album. He talks about bridging the gap between old school Japanese electronic music (à la YMO) and Detroit techno; about R&S and Warp; appearing on the cover of Newsweek, Pac Man, anime and more. https://soundcloud.com/line-noise-podcast/line-noise-episode-190-ken-ishii

After my recent first tweaker take on this sub, here comes my second. I was recently at the opera, where I haven't been for a few years, but now I headed back for a world-class artists. And I noticed something.
The vast majority of the audience, this shaky last-voter generation, were constantly trying to record minute-long!!! videos with their Samsungs in the typical folding case. In an fucking opera!
And guess what!? These fuckers even dressed all the same. How uncreative! Today it's all about fitting in.
So if you were to complain about people destroying a vibe, don't blame it on us younger ones. It has nothing to do with age. Smartphones make us all, some more, some less, unable to live in the now. A process of reflection, rethinking and relearning to do so again is needed.
Accusations get no one anywhere. Thanks for listening.

It is time for the solo debut of Thimo Konings, a young and very talented artist coming from The Netherlands, his first record shared with SAMA was a wonderful testimony of the capabilities of this artist, this is a full length debut on 12” that fully represents the artist in his own zone, a forward thinking modern take on groove and texture,
this really is the representation of the use of modern technology to create a sonical formula that is impeccable on a loud sound system, no matter where and when. Five cuts made the record, wich is supported and played by some of the biggest artists in the underground scene, a highlight at ADE in Amsterdam.
I just went to see a 3 hours set by Fautzi and I am absolutely in awe of him. That was genuinely one of the best sets I’ve listened to in person. His mixing and sound reminded me of Oscar Mulero- absolutely top class. I knew he is a good artist and have heard his productions before so I was expecting a good set- but this exceeded my expectations so much. It was a fast but deep, dark, and intense trip with incredible soundscapes. I just wanted to share it here cause I think he is not an artist that is discussed here a lot. If he comes to your city, do not miss him!

A couple of weeks ago I was at a DIY warehouse party here in Sydney. The night was still young and there I was vibing at the front somewhere and you know when you’re grooving and someone is just feeling it the exact same way you are?
And it was magical, so we ended up chatting for a while and then we started sharing some of our resources and having nice chats and it was just one of those classic nice interactions you have on the df with people who are just on your level and loving the music
Anywayssss, he was visiting Sydney as a tourist and was a proper techno aficionado, and most importantly was a truly lovely bloke. But once we’d started chatting and had shared resources we went back to the df…
And once we were back my man literally turned into a human Shazam. It was proper impressive, almost every single time a new track was mixed he gave me the ID, artist’s name and even some back info about the label.
And it really was impressive but fuck, after the 10th track I was just trying to groove and sometimes you’re just not looking for a dissection on every single new track that’s played you know?
I feel bad because he was a lovely guy, and I very much respect and am impressed by his depth of knowledge and nodded along in agreement everytime he gave me the ID and a 2 minute spiel about the artist, but fuck me. A bloke live shazaming was cool for the first one or two songs, but to anyone who is also extremely educated on the genre, giving a Shazam update every mix does get a little tiring and I wouldn’t recommend doing it every track
I still love you man and I love your enthusiasm and energy so I didn’t want to say it at the time and bring the vibe down but fuck, sometimes just keep the knowledge in the pocket. It was cool for the first couple but a full ID of every track really beings you out of a groove sometimes.
Hey true techno lovers,
I wanted to share my passion for a sound I like to call "dark dance". For me, it's a style of techno that's minimalistic, dark, and atmospheric, with deep grooves and hypnotic vibes, most often not exceeding 128 bpm. Perfect for solo listening sessions or for getting lost on the dancefloor. I also really like the combination of this sound with vocals.
I've been looking for my sound for a long time, going through a bunch of music, listening to tracks every day, changing my style. Probably, each of you has encountered this. And if by now you have come to the same sound as me - let's dig together.
First things first, Spotify playlist with "dark dance" tracks that I already dig. It is also worth mentioning that due to the genre's specifications, several tracks are not available on Spotify, and there is a real weapons only released on vinyl.
Maybe, some of my picks are not techno, some have a more house sound, some even refer to something like "afro", but, to be honest, I stopped being tied to genres, I select tracks according to the mood, vibe, atmosphere, some technical and musical aspects etc. That's what is important to me personally. And in terms of genres, the devil himself will break his leg, they are so intertwined. And they don’t make sense.
So if you also love this sound, I would be grateful to see your gems.
I have an upcoming gig in a big club and want to record the whole set, the thing is they dont have their own recording equipment, and i dont wanna hook up laptop and fuck around with audacity etc. there’s no time for that…
So what are other faster options to record? My friend has a field recorder (not sure which one i know its an ok one tho around 300€), could i record on that? if so, where do i position it for best sound quality?
