I am considering a job offer in Suzhou, but the school is located in SIP. They offer 2k housing allowance, but from what I’m searching online this isn’t enough for SIP area. Is there affordable housing in the area? Or how is public transport? Would it be convenient to live in a more affordable area and commute everyday?

Appreciate any advice 🙏🏻

Edit: I understand this might not be enough for SIP area. I prefer a 1 bedroom, no need for 2 bedroom. I can pay a bit extra out of my salary. Is 28k salary before tax enough in Suzhou?

I am visiting Suzhou next April and am very interested in high-quality artisanal crafts. I am especially interested in master-crafted fans, but I appreciate all of the handmade arts. I recently ran across mention of the Suzhou Artisan Garden, but I can find little about it. I can't even find its location! Can anyone tell me about this site or any others where I might find authentic artisans and their artworks? I am not at all interested in the typical touristy junk.

Hi all, going to Suzhou for the 1st time doing as a day trip from Shanghai around mid November on a weekday and is really interested in trying out the hairy crabs at YangCheng Lake but i have some questions in which hopefully any people can help to assist in solving :)

1. Can i didi to yangcheng lake from central of suzhou around 5pm and find restaurants just to eat the hairy crab? What time is the best to go and is it very crowded (to and fro)?

2. Any tips for not getting ripped off if i were to eat at yangcheng lake restaurants?

3. Perhaps as an alternative, is there any good hairy crab restaurants located in central Suzhou that takes in the crab from YangCheng lake and sell them?

I’m going to Shanghai for 4 days in April, but I’m going to spend one of those as a day trip in Suzhou. Im not sure how it looks regularly or if this is mostly during holidays, but my mom and I will definitely want to go on a little boat ride around the more water town side of everything, but I’m not sure how much it’ll be for 2 people and how to research it, cause everything that comes up is like $300 full day packages which I’m not interested in.

So far on the itinerary we’ve got general ideas of what to check out like - Pingjiang road, humble administrators and lingering garden, shantang street,, but idk, Also especially excited for the pingjiang area as I’m a hugeee fan of The Untamed/陈情令/魔道祖师 and I hear there’s a lot of related products around there :)

Many people are confused about how to negotiate rent and deposit when they first come to China? What is the tax? How to pay for water and electricity bills, and how much is more appropriate? Let me share a few of my rental experiences first. 

1. Water and electricity fees are divided into commercial water and electricity and civilian water and electricity. Before moving in, you need to ask the landlord about the type of residence, as commercial water and electricity are more expensive.
2. Rent is usually paid by paying a one month deposit and paying three months' rent in advance. How to refund the deposit should be clarified before signing the contract with the landlord.
3. Many foreign friends who come here for the first time do not know what taxes are. If you want to obtain a rental reimbursement voucher, you need to pay taxes. Before moving in, you can negotiated with the landlord to let them pay for this money, which can save some expenses.

Hi ya'll! Recently, I found this mountain around Suzhou and I wanted to hike it. However, I'm not sure if it's possible because there's not a clear hiking trail unlike other popular mountains like Lingyanshan and Tianpingshan. Could anyone provide me any information about how to hike this mountain, if possible?
