Students of Groningen is a sister sub of r/Groningen and meant for every question regarding studying in this fine city. This includes everything from getting accepted to quality of the study to asking each other for help with study related questions.

I'm in my first year of my master and due to a family emergency I did not study for the exam first try. For the resit, I was prepared but the questions were so much harder that there's no doubt in my mind that I failed it.
It was a mandatory course in the first year so what now? Do I have to stop my master's and waste a whole semester next year redoing that one course? Or can I just retake the exam next year while I do my second year without attending any lectures?
Is anyone familiar with how this works?
Hey all, just wondering what living in Libertas is like? Particularly, its proximity to other places in the city and what the lifestyle is like?? Thanks!
Hiii, I’m Sara and I’m looking for someone based in Groningen to help me out with a personal project. Will give compensation and credits for their work as well :)
I’m looking for someone that’s into dark, mystical, witchy stuff to help me bring a character to life. I’ll drop my pinterest board for reference.
Let me know if you wanna find out more or have any leads for me.
Hey,
I am wondering if there are any studyspots that are open during the night? Unfortunately all the common places like UB, harmony, Forum and also my faculty close at midnight or earlier so I would really appreciate if someone can recommend a spot that stays open longer or opens really early in the morning.
Hello everyone, I will be coming to RUG as an exchange student in the coming spring semester of 2025. There are three types of houses being provided, which would be Blekerslaan, Kornoeljestraat and Winschoterdiep. I have no idea on which to be chosen, can anyone give me some advice, especially for Blekerslaan, there is very little information on it.
Hi everyone
My name is Laura and i’m a 27 year-old PhD student from Denmark. I’m going to be in Gröningen from january to june 2025. Anyone know of an appartment that will be available for that time period? I’m flexible with move-in and move-out times, within reason.
Hi there! I am a Master's Student and I will be moving to Groningen at the start of February for 5-6 months. I am looking for an apartment near Hanze UAS campus (or in between to the city). Ideally I would like a single apartment but I would also not mind a shared apartment with 1-2 other people. If you are a student doing exchange that semester or if you/someone you know has an apartment/room available, please let me know, I would greatly appreciate some help!
*note: I have tried looking on all the websites, but as a student, it gets really expensive for little result. I am posting here to see if any students had places :) (This is also my first time using reddit)
Starting the housing search process and nervous about how fast SSH spots get taken up so im trying to think about alternatives. Since the housing situation is so difficult, I was thinking of trying to get a place further from the city centre. I know I'll have to spend more time commuting, but aside from that is there any other downside to looking into housing outside of the city, like being more likely to get scammed? I was wondering why this isn't an option that more students pursue if indeed the situation is as dire as described. Why would anyone rather be homeless or sleep in a tent than move further away? Why don't more people choose this option?
Hi, is there any way to see the pricis of the SSH rooms before the booking day? Which one you suggest to avoid?
Any students around here who ever had to fight fraud accusations? Like plagiarism, exam cheating, AI use or anything of the kind. I'm writing an article about students who appealed their fraud allegations and basically "fought" against them. Doesn't matter if they won or not:). So if you're one of those students or know someone who fits and would be interested to participate in a story about that, please let me know in a message. Thank you!
Room Available at The Social Hub – Starting November 1st, 2024! I'm looking for someone to take over my contract at The Social Hub from November 1st, 2024, to June 30th, 2025. It’s an amazing place to live, but I need to move due to personal reasons. The room comes with a private bathroom, access to a shared kitchen with all the essentials, and is located in a vibrant community. The Social Hub offers a coworking area, a bar, and a café, making it perfect for both work and relaxation. Plus, you’ll get free access to the gym! Rent is lower than the current price, and there are no rooms available at the moment – this is a rare opportunity! The location is close to the city center, with convenient access to buses, supermarkets, restaurants, and bars. It’s also a fantastic place to meet new people and make connections. Feel free to reach out if you’re interested or want more details. You can also check The Social Hub’s website for more information.
A brief story about me below. Now I'd like to find others who may have experienced difficulties with studying with depression, or any mental illness, and make a formal letter or petition to RUG to accommodate for people like us and allow online exams. If you are someone with these difficulties, or know anyone with them like your friends, family, please contact me!
I've been studying at RUG for several years now as an international student. But the past 2-3 years have been very very difficult. In fact, my studies have been delayed by 2 years because of my depression. And the university hasn't been able to accommodate me. The study advisors were really quite unhelpful so far over the years, and I'm really disappointed with the quality of assistance.
I'm hoping this will be my final year, and for this final year I'm requesting the permission to do all my exams online. To briefly explain my situation. My depression began from my grandparents deaths. Living in NL I had to return to my home country in Finland to attend funerals. This happened for 3 years straight, and after the second death I was really quite devastated, I couldn't just return to NL to do my exams as if nothing happened. I had asked if it were possible to do online exams, but I was just told it's impossible. I kept trying my best in exams and studies, but always managed to fail around half of the exams.
Now I've been staying in Finland, this is where my support network is. It would be greatly helpful for me if I got the chance to do exams online, not only to save on travel expenses, but also to escape from the anxiety inducing exam halls.
Again, if you are someone with these difficulties, or know anyone with them like your friends, family, I would be very glad to get in contact with you.
Hi! My name is Lorenzo, I'm a 27 years old jazz singer from Italy, and I'm studying at Prins Claus Conservatoire for a whole academic year. (From now to June, but I could stay longer).
I'm searching for a room asap, around 700eu/mo.
I'm in the last year of my master degree and I'm using the Erasmus opportunity to move abroad and find a more prolific music scene where I can grow as a musician.
I would study at the conservatory and not disturb anyone in the building.
I am a non-smoker (sometimes on social occasions) and I have 10+ years of cohabitation experience with many different roommates.
I am vegetarian and I'm passionate about psychology and trekking, other than music.
Lastly I consider myself a very clean person and I am clean schedule-friendly.
I’m searching for a place right now, maximum from October if I can get an agreement. If you want to see my photos, check @loreferrand on instagram :)
Please feel free to ask me any question,
hope you're having a great day,
Lorenzo
Hello! I am an international student who's hoping to do my second semester of college in Prinz Klaus starting in February, but most accommodations are advertised as first semester or a full year only, are there any websites that would tailor to accommodation for 2025? I am aware of the housing crisis going on atm so I'm trying to look now. Rent preferably between 400-600 a month.
Also if anyone has any general advice for international students so I don't look like a complete fool coming over that would be good!

hi eveybody- Im going to start working part time and need to get an health insurance. How do I get the money back from hte government? Do I get it back in a monthly basis or yearly? TIA¡
Irish going into first year of a bachelor’s in IRIO, I’ll have to learn a language in that time, I’ve already got basic French so I could go with that but I’m wondering if there are some language departments which are considered ‘better’ than others.
Hello!
My name is Juan, and I'm an archaeology student from Madrid. I was planning to spend my Erasmus year in Groningen, but due to a mismatch in the academic curriculums, I’m unable to go. As a result, I have a room available in the Upsilon SSH building that I won’t be using.
The rental contract is for the full academic year, and I’m looking for someone who qualifies and could make good use of it. If you’re interested or know someone who might be, please feel free to reach out!
Thanks, Juan

I finished my BBA in International Business last year and currently taken a gap year to travel. and I've been considering doing my Master's in Groningen. I looked at the International Business Master and became very interested in the program. My concern is will me taking a gap year affect my application? and when is the best time to apply as well? What are all the things i should keep in my and be ready pf while applying? Im from India btw.

Can someone please give me more insights about the program?
Op marktplaats zie ik veel boeken voor een lage prijs, maar deze zijn dan 1 druk ouder dan degene die op Ocasys staat. Maakt dit veel uit?
Does anyone have a pdf, screenshots or any kind of material with the sample questions of the OMPT-D test? I would like the real questions that could be in the exam (or the most similar to them I can find) in order to see how well I would do in the exam.
I will do it next week and want to do the most amount of practice questions possible.
I am in urgent need. Please DM me the pdf or screenshot.
Anyone know how to check your timetable? I have the brightspace and enrolled to my classes in progress portal 2 weeks ago and I haven’t gotten any timetable update yet? Thanks in advance.
Hi everyone,
I'm currently finishing my BSc in Finance and Accounting at ISCTE (Portugal) and I've been considering doing my Master's in Groningen. Initially, I looked at the International Business Master, but then I discovered TOM and became very interested in the program. My concern is that it's quite different from my BSc and I'm worried it might not be the right fit.
I've already done some research online but haven't found much information about it.
Can someone please give me more insights about the TOM program?
A really lovely and spacious house near train station, it has two bedrooms. One is rented by a female student from RUG, I am finding the one can rent the other room, which is where I live right now. The contract will start from 1st September, and it will last for a year. PM me for more details.
hi! i’ll be staying in zior xernike tower from august till jan!
i read the reviews online, and there were many mixed opinions about the area (i believe some of the positive reviews might be fake?)

hi i got admitted into AI in groningen, I've done my A levels but I will get my results in a few days and then send in my diploma/certificate to groningen. My question is, if I get below a C (a D, I'm certain I won't get anything lower) I will still be passing my examinations and in multiple emails that the university has sent me it says I need to pass my examinations but it also says somewhere that I need to get Cs. I am conditionally admitted already, what happens if I get a D or two for my grades?
thank you sm to anyone who takes the time to respond <3 feel free to dm me as well!!
