I just downloaded Stepmania today, I'd like to know how to add songs to the few available in the game, if it's possible, in particular metal and rock songs.
Please submit all song requests/queries here. Requests may or may not be answered but if you know the sim already exists please link the requester to the appropriate info.
Please be sure to check out the 'Download Songs' Section of the sidebar before submitting a request, chances are the song you are looking for already has a sim of some sort.

Our annual FEARMIX stepcharting contest held at the Zenius-I-vanisher Discord (https://discord.gg/zenius) concluded last weekend and with that came the release of the entire pack to the public!
This pack has 123 Halloween-adjacent songs, most of which with full DDR pad difficulties for Singles and a decent amount have Doubles too! You'll recognise a lot of the stepartists in here for sure...
All singles are available at Zenius, right here: https://zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/viewsimfilecategory.php?categoryid=1727 (and you can view the songlist / difficulties here too)
The FULL pack download is available here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/10Nb4Ukc4mSkvWqa1rT8Im62Gubl3QrRB/view?usp=drive_link
Hope you guys have fun with it!
Hi, for my upcoming wedding next year, I am procuring some DDR-like machines so I don't die one day with all of those hours I spent as a child practicing DDR Extreme2 songs going to waste. I've done a little digging and see that most of the Extreme2 songs are no longer available on actual DDR machines and haven't been for awhile due to licensing (specifically thinking of Speed over Beethoven and, to a lesser extent, Butterfly). However, I see that Speed Over Beethoven and many other Extreme2 songs are available on the StepmaniaX (although sadly my beloved Butterfly is not).
That is the only machine I'm seeing them on, but wanted to check with this community's expertise so I could pull together a list of viable machines for my vendor. I appreciate any help y'all can give!
in the video https://youtu.be/z_zT1RD1npE?feature=shared i want to get the noteskin but cant find it
i was searching for a stepmaniax noteskin, the arcade one, does anyone have one?
this genre is perfect for DDR (160 bpm is a good sweet spot in general imo) and Paisley Parks' STEP MACHINE and Oyubi's BANG PAD https://youtu.be/WjQoNyYiWmA?si=mGi_sAbHp1EboXlC are the only official charts i'm aware of. i expected to come across community charts for some DJ Rashad / Teklife songs at least, but haven't found anything so far. anything else out there?
I've been playing Stepmania for a week on a l-tek pad as a form of cardio in addition to regular resistance training. I've been looking for beginner songs and found that the Ben Speirs were recommended. I've been playing them but find myself stuck at the extreme jump in difficulty between difficulty 4 and 5. All of a sudden the entire screen is flooded with blue arrows and I have a hard time adjusting to the gap.
While I understand that its practice more than anything the extreme gap between 4 and 5 has me scratching the back of my head, especially because I can play the (official I believe?) DDR songs I downloaded on difficulty 6-7 and the steps feel like they make a lot more sense.
I generally like songs with a little higher bpm like trance or heavy rock, could anyone recommend me some songs? Additionally, can someone tell me if the difficulty of the Ben Speirs on 5 is normal?
i play step on a keyboard and i cant seem to get my forearms/wrists into a comfortable place that i can do stamina maps without my arms feeling sore after 2 minutes. my chair doesn't have armrests and changing the height of my chair and tilt of my keyboard doesnt seem to help. my elbows just kind of hang there which i think is the reason why but idk. what should i do now
I've been getting into DDR and played it at my local Round1, but it was getting expensive so I bought a soft pad. I then realized I do not have the correct adapter for it and I've been searching for a reliable one online, but everything I find has been sold out for ages, have a lot of reviews say they don't work with DDR pads, or are way too expensive. Any reccomendations? thanks
EDIT: SOLVED (see at the end)
Hello there,
I first tried to install Stepmania as a portable install, but missing lib errors led me to try it fron discover.
I installed Stepmania from discover, started it successfully, added it to Steam. Everything went smooth, so I kept this version.
I don't have enough disk space to add songs on inner storage, so I saved my packs on the sdcard (named "DeckSD"). Then I tried to add these songs by all the means I could think of and found on the internet, nothing worked. I spent several hours trying before coming here. I need help to solve this :)
Symlink from /var/lib/flatpak/app/com.stepmania.StepMania/current/active/files/stepmania-5.1/Songs/
to /run/media/deck/DeckSD/Stepmania/Songs/
. Browsing in command line works perfectly, but Stepmania crashes immediately when I launch it. No message or anything, I don't know what went wrong. If I remove the symlink and get a normal directory Songs, it starts normally.
Using additional folders in /home/deck/.var/app/com.stepmania.StepMania/.stepmania-5.1/Save/Preferences.ini
: I tried adding the path /run/media/deck/DeckSD/Stepmania/Songs/
(with or without final slash) to AdditionalFolders
and/or AdditionalSongFolders
none worked.
If I copy a pack to the flatpack songs directory, it is recognized immediately, so no issues from the pack. But if I do a symlink to the same pack from inside the Songs folder, it's not recognized.
Does Stepmania forbid using symlinks?
If anyone have ideas to how to solve this, I'm open to any suggestion. Thanks for any help :)
P.S. : I'm familiar with linux and commands if needed (not an expert though)
SOLUTION: I installed Project Outfox directly from Steam, it's free. I edited the Preferences.ini
to add the additional folder, it worked like a charm and it's the only thing I had to do in Desktop mode. Game is little buggy in menus browsing (overhaul in progress) but all the play stuff works flawlessly.
On a side note, I'll probably alternate this and Beat Saber for whole body workout.
can't find it
I tried google. Of course no help. I tried looking up the crash logs for any additional information, but the only thing that's listed are the textures loaded. Before when this would happen, it'd give me a list of what happened.
For context what's happening: I'd load up a song to play that has it's own AVI in its folder but because stepmania can't "access" this VDI file, the game crashes. Idk what it is because I have other songs with their own avi files and they work just fine. This song in particular, the AVI used to work just fine and I don't remember what I did, or what I changed that caused this AVI to stop working.
So any idea on how to fix this?
It seems like a few people have these pads but you don’t hear a lot about them. They feel really good, but if you’re used to modded pads you’ll definitely want to mod these if you buy them. But this is about as close to an arcade pad as you can get. I’m really happy with these.
