Scientific tool/item suggestions?

I'm thinking of crafting an all-purpose, wooden toolbox/stack of multiple tools to celebrate old school physics (think of it as one of those pendulum clocks that can also measure temperature, pressure, air moisture etc.), and I'm wondering what kind of functional stuff I could implement to give it a steampunk-esque, over the top look. So far I've got:

  • A watch (duh)
  • An aneroid barometer
  • A refillable, alcohol-based thermometer
  • A balance scale with reference brass weights
  • A spring dynamometer
  • A hourglass
  • A compass
  • A gyroscope
  • A Crookes' radiometer
  • A leaf electroscope
  • A multimeter (hard)
  • A geiger counter (harder, but believe it or not, people have actually made some)
  • An oscilloscope (even harder)
  • A (pointless) anemometer
  • A Newton's cradle
  • A mini Stirling engine with an RPM meter

Any additional ideas? Thanks in advance!

Good steampunk fiction books

Anyone know of any good steampunk books? Not just a little steampunkish. Like real, good steampunk books?

DIY steampunk style Star Wars blaster

It’s May 4th, the Star Wars holiday today! It also happens to be my birthday and I’m attending a Star Wars cantina themed party in Detroit. All attendees must dress as a bit characters in the Star Wars universe. While the pilots helmet I tried making didn’t come out too great at least this blaster looks like exactly how I pictured it. Made from an old shower nozzle, some iron black pipe parts, a copper pipe sleeve and some copper wire, a random piece of brass and a black walnut handle. May the fourth be with you :)

Classy Steampunk Progress In Beatty, Nevada - The Exchange Club

March 30, 2024 I scored a tour of an enthralling steampunk remodel of the vintage Exchange Club in Beatty, Nevada just east of Death Valley National Park. The artists are passionate about their project and I am most impressed.

And for perspective and context here was another visit to The Exchange Club two years ago, March 2022.
