STEAMPUNK QUESTION ...

I'm curious, is it fair to call Steampunk a hobby? Or something else?

Like other random topics on Reddit, a lot of them are centered around hobbies or general and/or obscure stuff that any one person might find interest in. And oftentimes, a lot of people follow and collect and invest in material items in their favorite topic or topics.

That being said, how big of a market is Steampunk?

( I'm doing a little research, Google isn't helping me much, and it just made more sense to come here and ask the experts. I'm also making a similar post in r/cyberpunk )

Thank you!

Apocalyptic sci-fi STEAMPUNK comic in FINAL DAY on KS! We need YOU!

Hey everyone! Matt Knowles here, creator and lead writer for steampunk graphic novel title HEIRS OF ISILDUR. Our KS campaign for The Perilous Prospects Books 1-4 is in it's LAST DAY and we are very close to reaching a couple fun stretch goals. This is an apocalyptic sci-fi story arc set in the steampunk mountain village of SHADOW'S HAVEN.

The pitch for this arc is: "The apocalypse has come to Shadow's Haven, and the only way to stop it, might be through those who accidentally caused it." And who might that be? None other than Professor Mykal Isildur, the artisan and curator at the Father Time Emporium. He's uncovered a secret laboratory with contraptions that opened portals, bringing individuals from other eras to him. Unfortunately, corruptive energy was also released, jeopardizing the very existence of his beloved mountain enclave.

We hope you'll come take a look, we have some killer merch options (shirts, socks, poker chips, metal music), a wicked metal trading card cross promo with another campaign, AND catch-up tiers for those hearing about this for the first time.

TIME IS RUNNING OUT! We hope you'll join us before 9pm EST on January 30th, when the campaign closes! CHECK IT OUT HERE

Fabric help

Hello all

I'm looking at making a 1930s style waistcoat but have some specific things for the fabric that are hard to find so far.

I'm looking for something brocade or brocade-like, preferably red designs over black or other dark, contrasting color.

My inspiration is the works of HP Lovecraft.

What I'm after is something that suggests themes of death. I kind of want it to be only noticeable if one looks at the design closely.

I'm not picky about the exact fabric, but I do want that silk/polyester sheen and actual weaving, rather than a design that's just printed. If it has texture, like embroidery, that would be even better.

I don't even know if what I'm asking about is possible...

Can anyone point me in the right direction or help me improve my query? I'm not totally new to costuming but I'd suggest keeping it simple, if you can 😄

Cheers!

Steampunk Germany

Years ago I was used to be a member of a German steampunk community 'Der Rauchersalon'. Unfortunately they closed few months after I joined. I was still to new to have ties with others and I don't know where they now gather.

So my question is: is there an new place? A new website or a Reddit sub I just don't found? Thanks in advance for your help

If What if fossil fuels didn't exist?

The steam engine era would have lasted until battery technology and electric motors became widely available, right?

1889, Mail Order Catalogue.

Decided to make a Mail Order Catalogue at the behest of someone I spoke to. Started off with just the centre sketch, then did the other 6 below, as if they’re Packages. Not Gasoline Cars, though they do run on Wood Gas. Barring the Compact, you can’t quite tell where the distiller and furness are. My scribble handwriting may not be perfect, so I’ll list out the pricing a for each model.

•“GoGo Compact”

235 FRF for the Factory variant. 250 FRF for Soft Top variant.

•“Gogo Sedan”

815 FRF for Factory variant. 900 FRF for the Shuttle Bundle.

•“𝓛𝓾𝔁𝓮”

3,270 FRF for the Factory Variant. 3,500 FRF for the Limousine Bundle.

•“S.P.O.R.T.”

2,705 FRF for the Factory variant. 2,900 FRF for the Super Sport.

Do you have a favorite SP movie?

I know that not a lot of steampunk movies have been appreciated by the general public. But because I do like some of them, what is your favorite? I’ll start off with mine….

Where to start?

We have arts, stories that follow the genre, help videos on creating steampunk items, but one thing that I rarely see, and find extremely difficult, is simply "where to start?"

Being Brazilian (that is, a very small Steampunk community) I no longer have access to much information so easily, and even when searching for blogs, websites and videos, it is difficult to find where to start getting into the genre. After a while it came to my mind to look at Reddit, otherwise I would still be as confused as blind in a shooting.

For those who don't have much knowledge about it, I had the impression of being left in the middle of a giant and complex office, without knowing my role, I don't know if it was the same with the older members of the community.

And even though I've been researching for a while, because I really like the genre, it's still not the easiest thing in the world to find interesting information, even though I know there are so many scattered around that I have no idea where, how and when I'll find them.

Finally, a small request, do you have any recommendations for somewhere I can follow other than the Subreddit? Where can I find out even more about Steampunk? Please help this poor soul🫂
