UK games

Hi all! I know very little about rugby union and I don’t really understand the timings.

If I was wanting to take my boyfriend (huge boks fan) to see a game at some point while they were playing in the UK (any of the teams really) when should I be looking to book? I can’t seem to find any for 2025 as of yet.

Poll on Banning X

Good day

As it stands we have received some feedback from the community in regards to the post about X links.

As such we have created a poll for the community to vote.

Please note: Not one of the Mods was against banning X links. We are all clear on what Mr Musk did and what it means, we share the pain and we stand against Fascism and Nazism. Some of us had family in WW2.

Note, you only have 1 vote so please choose carefully as mistakes will not be reversable.

History of rugby in SA

Rugby and fascism and Christian nationalism have had a supportive relationship. The game was administered by a minority and the vast majority of South Africans were excluded. Even today we still suffer because of the impact of that relationship. The core argument of the Apartheid regime was to keep politics and rugby separate. Little did they know that fascism and nationalism weren’t political issues but justice issues - I say this as someone who got my post-grad degrees in Political Science and Philosophy during Apartheid from Stellenbosch University.

But it wasn’t just in South Africa. The IRB continued to support this fascism by not kicking the white regime out and bringing in the majority of South Africans but allowing white SA rugby to still be a member. The IRB enabled racism, fascism and nationalism by not taking a strong stand.

A key moment that changed the view of many white South Africans on Apartheid was because of rugby. Doc Danie Craven went to visit the ANC in Lusaka to show that fascism isn’t a political issue but a human issue. The greatest Apartheid rugby hero and god to many rugby followers in SA stood up and drew a line. That was in 1988. He was condemned. In 1989 De Klerk made the first moves to unban the ANC. In 1994 we had our first democratic election and in 1995 we won the RWC - Doc Danie never saw either as he died in 1993.

We have the greatest #6 in rugby - Mandela. So I ask myself, what would Mandela do? He would stand against fascism. He would ask for X to be banned the same way he asked for rugby to be banned.

This is a rugby post.

Policy Statement: X/Facebook/Instagram/Paywalls

In light of recent events and also after seeing the policy stances of other subs related to this one (primarily /r/SouthAfrica and /r/RugbyUnion) we thought it best to clarify this subs position on links/screenshots to X/Facebook/Instagram and paywalled sites.

Context

The sole purpose of this announcement is to clarify our position. We have no interest in starting a political discussion and we will not be entertaining any either. We're a rugby sub, not a political sub.

The mod team have had candid internal conversations over the past few days to determine how - or even if - we wanted to respond to these events. It's through these discussions that we have arrived at this announcement. We have chosen to keep our personal perspectives and opinions separate from the purpose of this sub.

Policy

This sub has a long standing policy of adjudicating posts by their content, not their title. We're now extending that policy to include source.

Rationale

While each of us may have strong individual opinions on current events and the owners of various social media companies, the objective fact is that there are many content creators in the rugby community that leverage those social media platforms to host and distribute their content. These platforms are often the first - sometimes only - source of information or content that would be relevant and of value to the members of our community.

We are a small enough sub that our chosen content moderation policy can be enacted fairly reliably. And that policy can, and will, be revisited as times and circumstances change.

Member Influence

Our mod team also actively encourages the members of this community to make use of the downvote and reporting systems already in place to help us with the moderation and curation of content on this sub. We do pay attention to reports and we do act on them.

We have locked this post as we have no desire to engage in a political discussion. However, members who have strong concerns are welcome to send us a mod mail to outline their questions and concerns.

Conclusion

We are a Springbok and South African rugby sub. This is what we're focused on. This is all we're focused on. And that focus is the basis of the policy around adjudicating posts by their content, not their title and now, their source.

To borrow a phrase from our team -

"Let the main thing stay the main thing."
