i swear on all my life i have seen it before, can anyone help?
The mix of progy, sludge and groove elements are incredible here and i knew it's a masterpiece straight from the second track. Favourite songs: "Planets Collide" "December's Spawn" "Odd Fellows Rest" I don't know why I waited so long just to listen to it, but it's THE essential sludge album that definitely has its spot alongside "When the Kite String Pops" and "Take As Needed For Pain". Would this and "Crowbar" s/t album to new guys in the genre
The B side of black flag's "my war" is often cited as one of sludge's earlier influences, but the 1983 self titled album by Suicidal Tendencies actually seems to have what black flag had but shorter. Songs like "i saw your mommy" "suicidal failure" and "i want more" all seem like they could've been an influence on black flag themselves or sludge. Was suicidal tendencies ever cited or could it ever be cited as a sludge influences ? Please share your thoughts in the comments.
I just read this in the punk sub https://www.reddit.com/r/punk/comments/1ghlrlr/can_anyone_identify_the_source_of_the_intro/
has anyone ever been sued yet? I know the album sales are dogshit for lawyers to sniff around so far, but
i'm starting to listen to sludge and i wanna start by the classics. any names?
Too heavy
Hey, i'm kinda new to the community and i'm curious about what other bands you recommend for sludge!
P.S.
i've listened to acid bath, crowbar, melvins and isis. i want the best underground bands you recommend to listen :)
seems to be made by those death metal people and not punx. Alot of it sounds like shit. Sludge without that snotty sneer is kinda lame and just not the same. Some of it is great though. Now get off my lawn.
Holy shit that breakdown at 2:12 is absolutely wicked. Fattest, Filthiest riff I’ve heard in a minute
Hi my band dropped this today. It would be really cool if you checked it out.
p
Anyone else think this just stinks..I mean they were always a poor mans Thou. The music is sloppy as all hell. The tones suck and the singer won't shut up ever..like let the song breath a little bit. Dude likes the sound of their voice way too much. vocals over the entirety of the songs. Barely ever just letting music play. Ugh..I had to stop listening to it. Their live show is a snooze too.
story time! my first time discovering sludge metal was at spring/summer of this year. Nu metal became boring to me, so i went discovering new gernes of metal. i experimented with thrash and a little bit of death at the first times, but then the sludge came in. Many metalheads on tik tok were saying it "the best metal genre" and i already tried to listen to crowbar and melvins previously so i thought "why not give it another try"? I watched the video called "An Ignorant Guide Into Sludge Metal" and i don't remember why, but the name 'Eyehategod' really stuck to my head and i was just "damn. this name is cool! i gotta make it my favourite sludge metal band oat!". after that i spent almost all summer trying to get into sludge by listening to Eyehategod, Godflesh and DOWN. by the end of the summer i was already in Sludge and Stoner boat. wow, can't believe i've made sludge metal my favourite metal genre only in 3-4 month.
Stupidly underrated. The riff at 0:42 makes me wanna smash my head into a wall
I found this sludge band out of Texas called “Needle Freak”
They sound pretty cool imo, they’re bass and drums so it’s weird af
