Spotted a rare agave bloom in SLO! 🌵✨ This incredible plant takes 8 years or more to bloom, and it only flowers once in its lifetime. After this stunning display, the plant will sadly wither away. Nature’s beauty and fragility in one moment!

I’m interested in a plot at one of the SLO community gardens. My current options are Kiwanis, Meadow, Emerson, or Broad.

Meadow park seems to have the most sun, while Kiwanis seems the most easily accessible/best parking options, and those are the two I’m currently considering.

Does anyone have experience with any of these, and can recommend which they prefer/what they love about their current location?

It just feels a little meaner around town today. I'm doordashing as it's a slow client day, and I've already had four different sorts of weirdly aggressive interactions I've literally never experienced before in this town. One dude just straight up called me a pussy because the store was out of his $8 vodka; some mangy dude very intentionally swung his trump flag at me while I pedaled by on Higuera; a red-faced frat looking dude shouted "fuck n*****s" at me for some reason from the window of his car (I'm white?); and then some goateed middle aged dude casually weaving all over the car lane on his bike, holding a phone in one hand as he pedaled, screeched up next to me at the light and said "you need to slow down fucker!" after I'd passed him in the bike lane.

I don't know. I know this sounds improbable for one person before it's even 2pm, but that's been my morning so far in SLO 👍 Hope these dudes get it out of their system. It's just dumb and lame.

Hello, I’m planning a bike-packing trip and I’m trying to find a mainly off road route that would roughly connect Avila Beach to Los Osos. I’ve found some public roads/trails in the area but they all seem to dead end at private property or veer off towards SLO. Is this area just impassable??

Anyone in San Luis Obispo area know how to glass etch? I’m looking to etch some glasses for Christmas gifts, but I’m having trouble finding anyone local who can do it. Poor Richard’s Press can’t help because their machine doesn’t work with the shape of the glasses I have.

Does anyone know of an artist or small business that might do this by hand? Or, is glass etching something I could try doing myself? I’d love any tips on tools or techniques if it’s DIY-friendly. Thanks!

Hi Folks. So we are getting ready to move home to the Central Coast in spring '24, after living in Oregon for several years. My question is to anyone who owns their own home: what's the fire insurance situation like there nowadays? Currently our insurer DOES still issue wildfire policies in SLO County (although after this monster Camarillo fire that could change, I guess), but I'm wondering what cost looks like. We are looking at Atascadero, Templeton or Paso because of budget, so bonus points if you live there and have some general intel as to what you pay. Any ballpark ideas would help us plan. Thanks.

My family of 3 just received a voucher and we're looking to rent in the arroyo grande/grover beach area etc... but will settle for SLO. How difficult is it to find a rental these days? I've never truly gone through the process and now I've applied to 7 different properties, denied by 3 because someone else got it. They said they'd extend the time if it looks like we're actually trying to find place. My husband and I have 680 credit scores, I don't think it's terribly bad but I know others can have better.

If you guys have a good recommendation for a local barber I would love to know. Need to book a new one asap

But on the off chance anyone on here has any thoughts on ways to distract oneself out tonight, let me know. Whatever happens is happening, I voted a couple weeks ago, and now I think it’d be nice to focus on something like a class or workshop or just open mic.
