Have you ever wanted to buy a game on Steam but didn't know if it was good? Have you ever had just enough money for an indie game but didn't know whether it was worth buying? Have you ever asked yourself, "Should I buy this game?"

Then you're in luck. Here, you can ask others questions about any game on Steam or any other game on any console, whether it is about the graphics, the plot, the game play, or even the length.

Rules

  • 1 - Help Us Help You. When asking for a recommendation, help us by providing context to your question. Give us details about what types of games you enjoy, which games you don't enjoy, and why you're unsure about your purchase. People can't help you make a decision if you don't express yourself. For this reason, we require all posts to be at least 300 characters long. Why Does Rule 1 (Help Us Help You) Exist?

  • 2 - You may not make threads on unreleased content. People can't give you a recommendation on something that no one had the chance to try out.

  • 3 - Touchy Subjects, Appeals: In the cases where the mods have a problem with your conduct and there's no specific rule, moderator decisions stand. For disputes please Message the Moderators.

  • 4 - No spoilers without a warning. Spoilers include, and are not limited to, revealing something about the plot late in the game or explaining an important plot point. This goes for both comments and posts. Mark something as a spoiler by putting the spoiler text in between >! and !< (with no space in between). It should appear as like this: Broodje eats socks!

While we do not care to pry into your own personal decision, we will not allow you to tell others to emulate, torrent, pirate, modify, or in any other way get a hold of a game without legal consent of the producer. Paid mods fall in this category, but free mods generally are fine. This goes for both comments and posts. Please read Why Does Rule 6 (No Emulation) Exist?

  • 7 - No spam of any sort, including using the same words or phrases repeatedly, writing nonsense to bypass the minimum character limit, Youtube/Twitch channel promotions, promotion of your own game, repetitive/unwarranted recommendations, or links to websites outside of the normal realm of video game shopping.

War

Is there any war games like the movie vikings where I can control a whole army and take over the world or just survive as and build up my army and grow stronger to be able to take over other city's. I don't want a first person. I want to control the whole army and no guns I want the medieval times

Should I buy Rise of The Ronin, Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition, or something else?

Not sure which I should buy. Looking for something that has fun combat but isn’t overwhelming for a noob like me (I play games on easy). Favorite games include Red Dead Redemption 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon Forbidden West, The Last of Us Parts 1&2, and GTA V. As you can tell, I’m into the big AAA titles with great graphics and stories that are somewhat grounded in reality, maybe other than Horizon Forbidden West, and The Last of Us to a lesser extent.

Edit: Obviously Devil May Cry is not grounded in reality but it looks like good/fun combat and I’m hoping not too difficult on the easiest mode.

WSIB Mac Puzzle game under 10$

My steam account has 11 dollars in it, and I want a fun puzzle game to play. Some puzzle games I already play are Patricks Parabox, Baba is You, and Hexcells. I'm playing on my M1 Macbook, so it needs to be Mac compatible. I want a game that has simple controls and intuitive gameplay, but uses these mechanics in unique ways.

Which has a better single player experience? Tekken 8 or Street Fighter 6?

I never go online to play fighting games so I spend all of my time in single player, so which one is better? I don't wanna buy one game and find out the hard way that there's not much to do besides online, so what does each have to offer? I've played Tekken 7 but I've never played a Street fighter game. Also which one has a better customization system? I've heard good things about both.

Any Games Recommendations for PS5?

I got a $100 playstation gift card for my birthday recently and I’m wondering what to spend it on. I have PS+ Premium so feel free to recommend anything on there as well. If you want a guideline some of my favourite games right now are: Stardew Valley, NBA 2k24, Balatro, and Riders Republic. Fighting, Strategy, and Adventure Games are some genres I enjoy and I tend to stay away from Horror games (although I play Lethal Company on pc), I do play pretty much anything though. Thank you in advance :)

WSIB story heavy, cinematic games

Before I talk, I’ve pretty much played most if not all Sony’s exclusives story heavy games, which is the God Of War series, The Last of Us series, Uncharted series, Marvel’s Spiderman series, Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon series, Death Stranding, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Rebirth as well as Final Fantasy 16, hell, I also loved the Order 1886 and Days Gone’s story. Also, I should probably add that yes, I also played RDR2 and 1, Witcher 3, The Metal Gear Solid series, Alan Wake 1 and 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Like A Dragon series, Persona series and The Walking Dead (telltale).

And I love all of them, I love the story they want to tell or at least admire their focus on it as well as their cinematic experience. I’m asking if I might have missed anything similar. I’m open to a variety of genre, so feel free to recommend anything that you feel have an impactful story or a meaningful one!!

WSIB: Games where you can lose the battle but win the war

So let me explain what I mean here. In most games, if you ever lose, you're pretty much instantly put into a total failure state. Wiped in an RPG? Game Over. Out of health in an action game? Back to the checkpoint with you. Lose a critical building in an RTS? Mission failed. Now obviously this isn't a bad design choice at all and most games thrive on it, but I'm looking for something different. A game (I'm open on genre) where you can, say, get greedy on a dungeon dive, get wiped out, but you can send in another crew or something to try again, maybe even recover your lost characters or items. But - and this is a big but - not through the game ever forcing you to take an major arbitrary L through the plot.

Some examples of what I'm thinking of:

  • AI War: Generally understood you'll lose a fleet or two on an attack gone wrong during a campaign, this is punished by game mechanics but proper defensive planning means you can survive and bounce back.
  • Pyre: Narrative adapts if you lose games, picking yourself up after failure is a theme - but the game never forces you to lose just to show this.
  • Total War/Paradox Map-gazing/Other Grand Strategy: Very easy to take an unexpected loss and have to see how robust your empire is when you have to scrape together a new army with barbarians at the gates.
  • Xcom: You're going to take some losses to the aliens, in terms of manpower, map control, and even whole missions, but you're given the tools to manage these losses.
  • Darkest Dungeon: Probably the best example of what I'm talking about. It's very easy for things to go sideways and lose a veteran party with expensive gear. But clawing your way back is a skill too, as you can assemble new adventurers and run some easy dungeons to build up wealth and supplies to start making progress again.

And a point to the other side, games like Dark Souls aren't really an example since while you are expected to recover after frequent failure, that failure never significantly advances the game state, you just keep doing the same thing hopefully in a better way.

So what are your favourite games that let you keep playing and recover from failure? Looking for PC, Switch, and PS5 suggestions personally, but open to hearing any of your favourites!

WSIB: Games on Switch for $13.95 or less?

I just booted up my Switch for the first time in a while and noticed that I have $13.95 left on my eShop account and decided that I should buy a game. What games would you recommend that are $13.95 or below?

Some of the usual suspects I see people recommend for a low price are Hollow Knight, Stardew Valley, Celeste, and Hades whenever they go on sale. I own and have played all of these, although I didn't really like Hollow Knight.

WSIB Looking for open world games with good combat [PC]

Steam. I’ve been playing Rise of the Ronin on PS5 and I really like the combat in that game, but I’m not quite a fan of the difficulty all the time and not good at parry timing when it’s like it is in RotR, so I would like to take a bit of a break but with a similar type of game.

Games I already own that might be suggested

Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowwind, Witcher 3 (combat in all of these is bad to meh on TW3’s part imo), Ys 7, 8, Memories of Celceta (these aren’t open world), AC Oddyssey and most of the ones preceding it besides Origins, as I have no interest in origins or Valhalla (or Ubisoft games on PC because their launcher is awful)

I know Ghost of Tsushima is coming in less than a week and I was planning to get that, but Sony’s recent shenanigans means I can’t justify buying it from a “don’t want to support the practices” angle.

Good co-op game to play on a Mac

Hi all,

Me and my girlfriend are expecting our first child next week. The birth induction is already scheduled so we expect to have to wait 2 to 3 days in the hospital before the actual birth.

I was thinking about taking my MacBook M1 Laptop to the hospital and kill some time with a good co-op game (or multiple ones). I will take 2 Xbox controllers as well so it would be cool if the game works nicely with them.

My first game idea was "Baldur's Gate 3" since we are both into RPG's (long time "World of Warcraft" classic players) but we also like more casual games like "Overcooked" or "It Takes Two". Probably something more on the chill side since we will be already stressed and we are both noobs with controllers (keyboard+mouse 4life :P)

Should I buy Dark Souls 3 or RimWorld?

I know, I know. DS3 and RimWorld are 2 completely different games. However, I got £20 to spend and both of those games fit my budget perfectly. I love colony sims and Rimworld seems like the perfect game for me, from generative stories to that sci-fi theme, not to mention the overwhelming positive reviews about the game. But, I do also currently have an itch to play a souls-like game, after playing Elden Ring, and I've heard great stuff about DS3, especially from my friends, who all recommended it to me. I also love the theme of DS3, a mix of medieval and fantasy. I'm a very indecisive person so I'm gonna see what you guys say.

Laid-Back Single Player

I have Game Pass PC, and looking to play something that is more laid back and story focused. Normally I play games like Shooters, or PVP types, but am wanting to find something more relaxing than shooters, and doesn't need as much time investment than PVP. I'm open to just about any type of game (First Person, Third Person, Open World etc) as long as it's more laid back and relaxing. Thanks! (It doesn't have to be only on Game Pass and can be on Steam as well)

Looking for dungeon crawler akin to Gauntlet: Dark Legacy

My brother and I used to play Gauntlet: Dark Legacy when it came out on PS2 back when we were kids. I have super fond memories of that game, but since it’s not available for PS5 and I don’t have money to spend on an actual arcade console, what are similar games we could play? Diablo games are out of the picture right now, just because he and I are poor as shit and can probably only spend max $30; if it comes out on sale soon, we will prob buy it but till then, we’re looking for alternatives.

TIA!

Unique, innovative, and creative games that made you say “wow”

Looking for a breath of fresh air. My library is full of cookie cutter games- they all seem to follow the same AAA agenda and are just boring to me at this point. I am looking for game(s) to hook me back into gaming, something that I will actually want to play for hours or at least appreciate for trying something different.

Any genre is fine- I own a steam deck and have access to gamepass- thanks!

Should I buy Assassin’s Creed III on Switch?

I’m already planning on buying The Ezio Collection and The Rebel Collection, but I’m not sure if I should add III onto that? I love the AC games and have played I, II, Unity, Syndicate, and some of Origins. I know III on Switch had some bad reviews back when it first came out, but not sure how it’s doing now. Thoughts?

Can my laptop run Persona 5 Royal?

My laptop has an Intel Core i7 11th, Intel Iris Xe Graphics, 16 GB RAM and windows 11. For what I've read, it should run Persona 5 Royal, but I've bought Palword some time ago and I couldn't even play with the minimum graphics (and again for what I've read on steam, my specs should have ran the game).

I don't know if i should buy the game or maybe save my money and buy a decent pc in future, so if someone could help me on what to do I'd be grateful.

Assassin's creed odyssey or Mirage

I am thinking of buying AC Origins and I also want to buy a second AC game. I have played the free demos of both games and they were pretty fun. I prefer the older ac games so im not sure if im going to like ac odyssey as much as mirage but because I live in greece AC odyssey sounds very interesting. I had bought valhalla and although I didn't like it at first I decided to play it anyway and it was fun so I think I'll like odyssey too. Even if I don't like the story and the combat I am sure I will like just exploring greece but I've also heard a lot of people say it's one of the worst ac games ao I'm not sure. Assassin's creed mirage was also very fun and it reminded me a lit of the older games and although the demo was only 2 hours I was able to do 3 or 4 stealth missions which were really good. The combat also felt nice and Baghdad looks amazing. Both of these games are quite frequently on sale ac odyssey for €10 and mirage for €25. Should I go with mirage which I'm sure I will like or should I get odyssey?

Looking for a farming sim but instead of actual farming it’s mythical creatures.

I’m wondering if there is a farming sim game where instead of it being typical livestock, produce, farm village aesthetic it’s instead a western fantasy aesthetic.

Where you tame animals like Cockatrices, Mermaids, fae creature and grow monster plants etc.

Think Viva Piñata like gameplay too, but 2D is also good.

Looking for a fantasy game

My main point of comparison would be to Skyrim as its the closest game that's ever come to what I want, but what I'd really want is something like Lord of the Rings in game form (none of the LotR games look good to me). As in, deep worldbuilding in a high fantasy setting with lots of adventures to be had. I love skyrim for that but its janky and I've already played it a ton. Don't really feel like trying the other games in the series either.

Other games I've tried that are great in their own right but don't really scratch the same itch are the Witcher 3 (too low fantasy and dark), Elden Ring (lore and worldbuilding are too hidden), Baldurs gate 3 (never finished it... it would be perfect but as i found out i just cant stand the crpg format), and Dwarf fortress (again would be perfect but my brain is too small)

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hades 2, V Rising or Animal Well?

I'm really struggling to come to a conclusion on which of the above I should buy, I know I'd enjoy them all, and eventually will probably buy them all. Does anyone recommend any of these games over the others and what are your reasons?

I've played Hades 1 and throughly enjoyed it, I know I enjoy Metroidvania's, and Vrising looks very interesting but I know the least about. Any Insights on these titles?

What do you think about meme-games like A Story About Farting?

Hi guys! Some time ago I came across a game called A Story About Farting on Steam. I don't know what to think of it XD I like meme games, but this is both disgusting and encouraging in its own way. You're supposedly just clicking, like in My Name is Mayo and still there's some form of masochistic satisfaction in it. Do you have a similar thing? Do you know of any similar games that you could recommend to me?

Should I buy Hades 2?

Hello there, I found myself in the situation of kind of wanting to buy Hades 2 already. The release came suddenly, but I thoroughly enjoyed the first game. I'm not sure about the amount of content in the game as of now and wanted to know if it's worth it.

Since I have around 30 money at my disposal, alternatives would be Fighting Game Characters and various smaller games I have my eye on for a while, but I wanted to gather some opinions about Hades 2 first.

Edit: I have been convinced to buy Hades 2. I've played for around an hour now and it feels great, far more polished than I expected. Thanks for all your kind suggestions!

Ghost of Tsushima PC or Anything From an Anime Convention

Hey all, planning to buy Ghost of Tsushima once it's out on PC. Wanted to play on my PS4 but figured I'd wait and get it on PC instead. So for those who've played it, what do you think? Is it a slopfest ubisoft game? Or is it good open-world like Skyrim or Fallout (before 4), Cyberpunk or The Witcher or MGSV or Zelda or Death Stranding?

If it's good is it masterpiece good or safe-for-audience good like Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, where even though it's a good game, I dropped it due to how boring it becomes.

I'd be going to an anime convention tomorrow so I want your thoughts on the game today since if I buy something tomorrow, I won't have any money for Ghost of Tsushima.

Cheers lads, thanks for reading. Happy Saturday 🎉

Should I buy It Takes Two?

I play on a steam deck (I have monitor and 2 controllers) btw. Anyway I finished playing A Way Out with my dad and we both loved it. However I’ve been thinking about getting it takes two since it’s on sale. Me and my dad’s only problem from looking at the trailers is that the story doesn’t really look like something we would really get too invested in. It did get GOTY though so we might get proved wrong. There’s also the ability to skip cutscenes as well :P. However another thing is that I’ve seen some people say that people who don’t play video games much might have a bit of a hard time with the game. My dad doesn’t play video games much though so it’s making think if I should really get it. Anyway main questions is: is the story good? I’ve seen varying opinions but don’t really know. And also is it hard for people who don’t play video games? Any opinions or input will help. Cheers.

What games do you recommend on ps5?

Some background into my gaming history: I love difficulty in gaming (big souls game guy, love them all). I really like fighting games, currently playing tekken 8 a lot. I also really like the aspect of designing a "build" of sorts (like in armored core 6 for example). Extraction shooters are a guilty pleasure of mine, so go ahead with those. Honestly I'm just not sure where to go in my gaming journey (so to speak) and I'm looking to try some new stuff, or maybe some good stuff that fits with games I already like. Pretty much open to suggestions, all help would be appreciated!
