This subreddit is devoted to Shortcuts. Shortcuts is an Apple app for automation on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
This subreddit is for the Shortcuts app for iOS and macOS. This app allows you to create and share Shortcuts. Shortcuts are scripts that automate tasks. These can be triggered manually or through Siri, and in some exceptional circumstances they can be triggered through external inputs. (Like NFC)
This subreddit is for:
In addition to Reddit's rules, this subreddit has some additional rules:
Rule name | Description |
---|---|
Rule 1: Stay related to Shortcuts. | Content without any significant commentary relevant to the Shortcuts app and related features may be removed. |
Rule 2: Don't link to illegally hosted content. | Do not include links in your posts or shortcuts to places that violate copyright law, such as torrent sites or free streaming sites. |
Rule 3: Use Imgur/Gfycat/Reddit to host media. | You should only use Imgur, Gfycat, or Reddit to host media, such as screenshots, GIFs, and videos. See rule #5 for information on how to share links to shortcuts. |
Rule 4: Be civil. | If what you want to say is not civil, please do not post it at all. |
Rule 5: Shortcut posts must include a shortcut link. | All posts marked with the 'shortcut' flair must have a link, whether it is as the URL provided in a link post or somewhere in the body of a text post. Links can be to iCloud or RoutineHub. |
Rule 6: Shortcut posts must fully describe the shortcut. | All posts marked with the 'shortcut' flair must have an explanation of the shared shortcut. This can be in the body of a text post or in a comment on a link post. Shortcuts that maliciously conceal the purpose of high-risk actions (such as send message) violate this rule. Post titles requesting help must include a description of the help being sought. |
Rule 7: Shortcuts should be shared through a trusted site | To ensure safety and authenticity of shared shortcuts, we ask that all shared shortcuts use an iCloud link or RoutineHub link. Make sure to share the original link if it is not your own shortcut you are sharing. Regenerating a link for someone else's work makes it hard to know if it was modified in some way, and it also doesn't gain their shortcut another download (shortcut sharing site). |
Rule 8: Use post flair properly | When setting your post flair, consider the options before setting it: If you are sharing a shortcut, then choose 'Shortcut Sharing'. If you need help, use 'Help'. Please also be sure to set the post flair to 'Solved' when your request or help item has been resolved. This helps to reduce the number of posts that end up in the 'Help' and 'Request' filters. If you are sharing a tip or guide, use the 'Tip/Guide' flair. |

Hi, Could anyone help me how to create a night time routine to play Spotify playlist via my Apple Home Pod? Thanks!
How can I make a shortcut that will automatically email myself when I am texted, and it will have the text in the email?
I’ve been trying to make a shortcut to create note template in Apple Notes. The Rich Text from Markdown action doesn’t seem to work 100% of the time, so my pages just end up with plain text. Which is better than nothing but annoying.
Is it possible to copy the contents of a Note, create a new note, and paste the contents? I’m still new to Shortcuts so figuring out things like this has been time consuming
I want a short cut that allows me to double tap back of my phone to open a specific app like instagram
Hi, everyone.
I'm struggling to build a shortcut that will allow me to open a PDF file from my iCloud Drive, remove/replace some of my personal data written on it (e-mail), and then save the file.
I've already tried "get file" + "replace text" + save file, with no success.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I am trying to create a shortcut that will append some information to a specific note.
Today's date and time, dictated text from my watch, and a line or some was to separate subsequent lines.
I would like to use this while working on an ambulance during high stress and acuity moments to remember timing of events.
I'd like to press the button on my watch and be able to speak a short phrase, then continue working. I would repeat this process several times and then later return to the note on my phone to write the patient care chart.
The shortcut I'm working on only adds the date and Time and not the dictated text component or line separator. I can see a list of dates and times. I've attached the shortcut below.

A dynamic progress bar is a great way to present data. It can handle both countdown and count-up timers.

New to shortcuts and Apple Watch. Can someone please help me with creating a shortcut that would enable low power mode on Apple Watch when I enable airplane mode on my phone?
Thank you!
Here’s my shortcut. It opens the file correctly but only plays audio on my iPhone, not the playback destination. Any suggestions?
I’m on the hunt for a shortcut that can calculate the percentage of recovery based on a few key factors. I’m particularly interested in HRV, resting heart rate, sleep stages, and total sleep time. Ideally, I’d like the shortcut to establish a baseline for each metric over a period of 4 weeks and then assign a weighted sub-score to each value, in order to determine the overall “recovery score”. I’m curious if anyone has tried creating an algorithm like this in shortcuts, especially since it could be really helpful for athletes. If you have any experience with this, I’d love to hear from you and potentially collaborate on it. Thanks a bunch!
As you can see in the attached image, if you long-press a Shortcut it brings up the secondary menu.
Similar things happen if added to the Homescreen.
Is there anywhere I can add a Shortcut to which will start it with a single long-press?
I don’t mind downloading / purchasing apps.
Thanks!
I am trying to create a json file with a dictionary and then add additional entries to file, but can't quite get it right. Calling experts for help. Here is the file I have so far https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/789a4316938445a186c0022baaa6f4b8
This is a very simple shortcut that gets the current state of the Metal HUD and then changes it to either on or off.

Is there a way to disable vibrations on phone and watch when the sleep focus mode is active?
I have noticed for some notifications the phone and watch vibrate at night and wake me up. Putting it to silence mode does not seem to disable vibrations.
Hi everyone! 👋
I’m thrilled to share an iOS Shortcut created by u/Cost_Internal, based on an idea I had to automate my work schedule saved in the Notes app. It’s a fantastic example of collaboration, and I’m looking for feedback or suggestions to make it even better.
The Idea Behind It
My work schedule is saved in the Notes app in this format:DD.MM.YYYY - [Start Time] / [End Time]
or DD.MM.YYYY - Hol.
for holidays.
I wanted a Shortcut that:
1️⃣ Finds today’s schedule entry based on the current date.
2️⃣ Checks whether the current time is past the start or end time of the schedule.
3️⃣ Sets a reminder for 30 minutes after the end time, notifying me of tomorrow’s schedule.
4️⃣ Skips holidays (Hol.
) and replaces the notification with something fun or motivational instead.
What the Shortcut Does
Here’s how the Shortcut handles a typical day:
🗓️ Example Date: 02.01.2024
🕒 Schedule Entry: 02.01.2024 - 07:00 / 15:30
🕓 Current Time: 16:00
"Tomorrow you work from: 08:00 / 16:30."
For holidays, the Shortcut skips today’s reminder and schedules a fun or motivational notification instead.
The Finished Shortcut
Formatting Matters!
⚠️ Important Tip: To ensure the Shortcut works perfectly, your Notes must follow the exact format:DD.MM.YYYY - [Start Time] / [End Time]
or DD.MM.YYYY - Hol.
💡 Need help with formatting? Use tools like ChatGPT to ensure your entries are correct and avoid compatibility issues. A single formatting error can cause the Shortcut to break!

I’d love to hear your thoughts on improving this Shortcut or ideas to extend its functionality. Huge thanks again to u/Cost_Internal for making this idea a reality! 🙌
I wear my Apple Watch to bed. I’d like a shortcut/automation that turns off the watches always on feature when sleep focus is on. I tinkered a bit but didn’t see the right options. Is this shortcut possible?
I find myself adding .txt to read files sometimes which makes their contents readable sometimes in the iOS files app. How can I create a shortcut for this?
I forget or postpone filling out my time sheet on a daily basis. Can’t query an API to let iOS check whether I did.
What kind of automation could nudge me to do this in a stronger manner than just an (easily dismissible) pop-up reminder? Could it maybe block certain functions on my phone if I don’t complete task?
Hello everyone,
Need a bit of assistance with this shortcut. I’m trying to get the take off time from a website and trying to display it as an alert.

I want to create a shortcut that retrieves all notes with the same creation date across different months. For example, if I run it today (December 21), it should fetch notes created on the 21st of each month (e.g., November 21, October 21, etc.).

I’m new to this, I don’t think apps can run shortcuts(?) but still I’m looking for a solution lol I have a shortcut that joins a couple randomly selected parts of text and sends it as a notification. I’d like it to be able to run a couple times every day at random, unpredictable times. Unfortunately the options for automation are very limited… I don’t want it to be based on the battery, setting alarms, a focus mode, and I don’t want to make a bunch of sunrise/sunset automations. (Making it wait a random amount of time after it runs is also out of the question because it shows it’s running.) Anyone know if this could be done? I couldn’t find an app that could do this. Thanks :)
I have my iPad setup in the same spot 24/7 and would like to enable remote video recording.
I.e. I’m at work and want to trigger my iPad to start recording video on it, using my iPhone. Is this possible to do with an iOS shortcut? Or would I have to be on the same WiFi network as my iPad?
Built-in Screen Time limits are weak at blocking - they give options to keep using apps for longer.
I'm looking to fully block Chrome for the remainder of the day if I pass 150 minutes of usage. Is there a way to shortcut this? And another for Safari for 1 minute, which'll avoid switching over to it.
I don't suppose there is a lock that can prevent this from being easily switched off too?

My Shortcut has been made to service the following:
I made this cause many people will provide a name, or maybe only how many chapters to something. Maybe it's a song someone made, and there are like 10 people asking "Is it available on Spotify?" and maybe it is, but it goes under a different name. People are lazy, I'm lazy too! And sometimes, I want to know if a manga that looks good on TikTok is new or maybe it has like 100+ chapters...
Let's make spreading acurate info on TikTok nice, clean, and easy to understand.

V1.14 Release Notes:
Medium Size Update!! :D
This update has 0 visual changes, it does have internal changes that will lessen the need for many future updates.
Fixed:
- (Unknown whether this bug was in the previous update, it was however in this update but was fixed) Where the selection of where in [Anime] was just COMPLETELY broken.
Added:
- [Credits] is now read from PasteBin rather than fully existing in the shortcut.
- [Where Movies], [Where Podcast], [Where Songs], [Where TV Shows], [Where Manga], [Manga Status], and [Manga Type] menus are now read from PasteBin.
- [My Other Shortcuts] is now also read from PasteBin.
Reading from PasteBin, as said in this Update Notice, means that these menus will be updated in REAL TIME. Meaning that there will NEVER be a patch/update where there is a need to add anything to these menus.
I am currently working on the Bug Reports shortcut. This Bug Reports shortcut will be implemented in all of my current and future shortcuts. Making it fast and simple to use, as well as it being a stand-alone shortcut. (Should be released in the next update)
Hey All,
I am trying to create a shortcut that will open up to the Sony Creator's App location setting. I can get to the page where the all the app's settings are but I can't figure out how to get the shortcut to actually open up Location.
app-prefs:jp.co.sony.playmemoriesmobile.portalapp
I tried adding the following after &path=
As for why I am trying to do this, in order to have Geolocation tagged on my photos the app has to have location set to always, so I need to be able to quickly toggle between always and never.
Thanks!!!
maybe it's a bug. not sure.
but when I have automation to disable/enable orientation lock when an app is opened or closed, I noticed a flaw.
if I lock screen while app is open, it behaves as if the app closed. cool.
if I unlock screen, and because the app is already opened, it DOES NOT behave as if the app opened, and thereby does not trigger the Automation. which is odd because when it's opened, I can swap to different app and back, and it'll behave as if it opened. Unlocking does not behave as if the app opened.
is there some workaround/filter to this that can allow me to setup a Shortcut to look for more specific details?
solved. quote from below: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/058e07a71ff045b69e1f607251f3b3b1
The shortcut above needs to be used with the when apps are opened AND OR Closed. I have noticed when I do it this way it doesn’t matter how it’s opened or closed or how we get to the app. It takes a second but it has always worked for me since the latest update. Worth a shot!

Check For Update (Download Link)
--------------------------------------------------
How to Give Credit (and always do)
Add this to your Routine Hub post:
[![Update kit](https://i.imgur.com/u4AdamT.png)](https://routinehub.co/shortcut/20984/)
--------------------------------------------------
Have you ever wanted your shortcut to check for an update, but either didn't understand how to do it... took to long, or maybe (like me) your tooo lazy to do that!
Well do I have a solution for you! All you have to do is implement these 6 actions into ANY SHORTCUT you like, and as long as there is a link to the shortcut on RoutineHub then your good! My shortcut has it's own menu as well to prompt users whether they want to:
See Release Notes & Install
Install New Version
Do Not Install Update
There may be a time when this adds the action to the shortcut so that you wont need download the shortcut, but I'm too dumb for that.
This shortcut also returns a true
statement, so if you want the user to see whether or not the shortcut is up to date or not!
--------------------------------------------------
Important Warning
Never use theses words (as they are typed, abreviating the words will not break the shortcut) Latest Release, Feedback, iOS, nor Version when you update your shortcut (for the release notes), as this will break the Release Notes
portion of the shortcut.
--------------------------------------------------
How To Implement with 6 actions!
Implent photo I use the Dictionary
action so that I can use less set variable
actions. To use Dictionary
variables simply set variable
of the Dictionary to any name you want, then when you select (in my example I use) LocalData
and it will open variable options
. Set the key to to a key in your dictionary and press enter
or return
to "activate".
This is very important In order for the import of data to actually work, you must set your text
action up in this order:
<name of shortcut>
<current version of shortcut>
<link to the shortcuts download page on routinehub>
--------------------------------------------------
How To Implement (check for return
)
With return steps 1 to 3 The if <run> has any value
is checking if the shortcut Check For Update
was installed.
with steps 4 to 6 The if <boolean> has any value
is checking the return statement of Check For Update
. If true
is returned, than the shortcut is Up to Date, otherwise it is out of date.
--------------------------------------------------
How it looks with the check for return
How it looks Thsi is a shortcut that I am currently working on, please ignore.
--------------------------------------------------
How the install menu looks to the end-user
end-user
means the person using the shortcut.
