Rules

In addition to Reddit's rules, this subreddit has some additional rules:

Rule name Description
Rule 1: Stay related to Shortcuts. Content without any significant commentary relevant to the Shortcuts app and related features may be removed.
Rule 2: Don't link to illegally hosted content. Do not include links in your posts or shortcuts to places that violate copyright law, such as torrent sites or free streaming sites.
Rule 3: Use Imgur/Gfycat/Reddit to host media. You should only use Imgur, Gfycat, or Reddit to host media, such as screenshots, GIFs, and videos. See rule #5 for information on how to share links to shortcuts.
Rule 4: Be civil. If what you want to say is not civil, please do not post it at all.
Rule 5: Shortcut posts must include a shortcut link. All posts marked with the 'shortcut' flair must have a link, whether it is as the URL provided in a link post or somewhere in the body of a text post. Links can be to iCloud or RoutineHub.
Rule 6: Shortcut posts must fully describe the shortcut. All posts marked with the 'shortcut' flair must have an explanation of the shared shortcut. This can be in the body of a text post or in a comment on a link post. Shortcuts that maliciously conceal the purpose of high-risk actions (such as send message) violate this rule. Post titles requesting help must include a description of the help being sought.
Rule 7: Shortcuts should be shared through a trusted site To ensure safety and authenticity of shared shortcuts, we ask that all shared shortcuts use an iCloud link or RoutineHub link. Make sure to share the original link if it is not your own shortcut you are sharing. Regenerating a link for someone else's work makes it hard to know if it was modified in some way, and it also doesn't gain their shortcut another download (shortcut sharing site).
Rule 8: Use post flair properly When setting your post flair, consider the options before setting it: If you are sharing a shortcut, then choose 'Shortcut Sharing'. If you need help, use 'Help'. Please also be sure to set the post flair to 'Solved' when your request or help item has been resolved. This helps to reduce the number of posts that end up in the 'Help' and 'Request' filters. If you are sharing a tip or guide, use the 'Tip/Guide' flair.

Driving Focus Music Automation

EDIT: Using a generic Bluetooth device and not anything with CarPlay.

For the life of me, I can't get this to do what I want

Goal: when I get in the car, I want music to play. If I'm listening to a song, I want that song to continue playing after connected. If no music is playing, I want it to shuffle my library.

Currently, the shortcut triggers but bypasses the first half of the if statement and always shuffles my library whether I am currently listening to a song or not. Any ideas?

Open garage door when arriving home but only when iPhone is connected to a particular vehicle.

Hey all, I’m struggling to get this automation created. The title pretty much says it all.

I want the garage door to open when arriving home while my iPhone is connected to the Bluetooth on my motorcycle.

That doable?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Open a certain Chat GPT conversation

Hi! I have a certain ongoing ChatGPT conversation that has been trained by multiple prompts. I would love to have a shortcut that goes directly to continue that conversation. Either in the app or in the interface. Any tips on how this can be done? All the shortcuts ive managed to create start a new conversation every time.

Thanks in advance!

Using a shortcut with custom sound recognition

Not sure if this is the best place to ask this question but I ultimately intend to use a custom sound notification in conjunction with shortcuts. Has anyone successfully created a custom sound recognition on iPhone? I'm trying to get it to recognize a Microsoft teams call or even a teams message notification sound and I'm having the most difficult time getting the sound to register at all.

A shortcut that switches my background between a set of photos

I wanted to set up a shortcut (not automation) that cycles through 8 specific photos, switching to the next photo when I click it. I have been searching online for hours, but cannot find anything like what I’m trying to achieve for the life of me so I came here. It would honestly be so much easier if the IF function wasn’t so limited. I do not want somebody else’s shortcut, I am requesting genuine human help to learn this system if anyone is willing.

Grocery list reminder

I have a grocery list at Tick Tick that I want to have an automation run when I leave the apartment. Preferably I want it to have a condition where it checks and if it there is nothing in the list it stop the shortcut but if there is that I will get a notification that opens the list. But any other suggestions are welcomed.

Shortcut to perform a specific function within an app

Hi. I am looking to create a shortcut (well two) and not sure if it’s possible. I want it to open an app, go to a section of the app and perform an action there. Specifically this is to open the app Be My Eyes, go to Be My AI, and then click the take picture button. Secondly, which I think is impossible is to take a screenshot and have it described in the same way.

Shortcuts and automations not working most of the time (iPhone)

Hi,

I started messing around with shortcuts recently and making a bunch of them. A pattern I've noticed is that the shortcuts work for the first few times, but eventually they just stop working.

For example, I've made an automation to give me an alert and then a menu every time I open a certain app (to confirm that I actually want to open the app, pretty much). It worked at least once, but now nothing happens when I tap on the app. It'll show the check mark notification indicating that the shortcut went through, but it won't actually do what I want it to. And then a few minutes later, I get a notification from the Shortcuts app saying there was an error with my automation.

I've tried restarting my phone, but that doesn't do anything. My iOS is also up to date.

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this with their shortcuts and automations and if there's any way to fix it or if I'm doing something wrong.

Number ranges as dictionary keys?

tl;dr pretty much just the title: If possible, I want the keys in a dictionary to be number ranges rather than specific numbers.

This feels like it should be simple but I'm not having luck with everything I've found in this sub and elsewhere online. I have found similar questions asked and answered but I can't figure out how to adapt the particulars to my problem.

(I am writing this out on my PC and can't link to the shortcut itself right now, I will update this post with the link when I can)

I am working on a shortcut to show an alert summarizing current weather that includes specific emojis based on different weather conditions. I have successfully done this for the overall "Condition" using a dictionary and "Get Dictionary Value" action, for example, when the input from "Weather Conditions" matches the key "Sunny" it returns the sun emoji value defined for that key.

Now I am trying to do something similar with temperature ranges. I just want to return a particular color depending on which range includes the current temperature, for example a red circle if it's 80+, orange circle for 70-79, and so on, using a dictionary. I know that I can (and have) achieve this result with nested "If" actions but it's very repetitive and clunky looking, and I know that I can define each individual number as a key but doing that also feels tedious and inefficient enough to defeat the purpose. It seems like using a dictionary could be a clean and simple approach if there's a way to define a number range as a key, but I can't figure out how to, or if it's even possible, to do this.

Many answers I'm finding online to similar questions don't use a dictionary and/or talk about JSON or Regex with advanced expressions/syntax that's over my non-programmer head, and my attempts to adapt some of the solutions to my problem have been unsuccessful.

How to make a shortcut that crashes

Kind of an odd request, I know. I want to make a shortcut for an app icon on my home screen, but make it so it constantly crashes and will never work.

How to make Siri trigger an alarm or make a noise

I’m very new to shortcuts and until yesterday thought they were pointless until I realised how useful they could be if done right, I was reading a comment and saw someone said they made a shortcut so that when they shout out Siri where are you it makes a noise, could somebody show me how to do that or could the person share the shortcut perhaps please ? Would really appreciate it!

Can someone help me send a photo to chatgpt?

I’d like a button that opens my camera to take a picture of my meal, then send it to ChatGPT and asks for a nutritional analysis and then copies the answer so I can share it to my macrofactor app. I can’t seem to figure out how to share the photo though.

Thanks in advanced!

Automation and shortcuts running extremely slow

I have been using shortcuts from the beginning. I came from android and loved tasker. Over the years as additional shortcut features have been added I have generally reproduced what I had with tasker 10 years ago. I have lots of automations based on locations, time and power that trigger shortcuts to run in the background. In the last few major releases of iOS my shortcuts are starting to take longer and longer to execute even though I have not updated or modified them. All automations log to a file when triggered and all shortcuts executed log at start and end.

An example is my power removed automation. The trigger event shows in the log immediately but the simple shortcut takes 2-3 minutes to execute. Other triggers with different shortcuts are exhibiting the same slowness

I have had issues in the past and have resolved by reinstalling the app but it’s such a pain to recreate all my automations AND allow each shortcuts to run other shortcuts for all the various branches in my automations.

Any advice or others with the same issues?

Shortcuts app disable Whatsapp notifications sound on Macbook with Work focus

I work in an office space with about 5 other people around me. My Work focus is setup so it turns on immediately after i arrive to work and it doesn't allow notifications from any app except my work apps and my girlfriends contact on WhatssApp. The problem is that when i have the WhatsApp app open on my Macbook every time i get a text from my girlfriend it makes a loud notification sound at full volume, in which i then need to mute my Mac completely to negate this since Macos doesn't have a volume control for individual apps (like the volume mixer on Windows) I was wondering if i could set up an automation in the shortcuts app that disables notification sounds for WhatssApp that is linked to my Work focus schedule, meaning that this change only takes place during work hours. I live in a country that does not use iMessage primarily so thats off the table.

Sick of unnecessary Google clutter? Here’s a shortcut!

Sick of unnecessary Google clutter?

If you’ve tried looking something up on Google recently, you might have been frustrated by the sheer amount of Google fluff added in between the search results. From the AI overview, to the “questions others asked”, to the quick facts section, etc.

This is a quick fix if you ever want to remove all that. Just hit “Get Rid Of Google Junk” in the share sheet, and you’ll get a clean Google search with just links.

Matrix rain in shortcuts not third-party

I've been trying to re-create the matrix rain inside of Shortcuts for a while now can't even get close. Is this possible without a third-party app? I've done it inside of iSH a while back so that it runs when I open iSH. but it would be a cool automation to run on plug your phone in to power any pointer in the right direction would be appreciated.

SaveAppDetails

A very simple shortcut

https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/7625085dd3b346b1bbd51538ea454ec4

This shortcut called SaveAppDetails does exactly what it’s name suggests, you type in an app, you select said app (not every app will show up), it asks you what details you wanna save, once you select one it will show you those details then copy it to clipboard in case you need to send to a friend or save it to notes (btw if link doesn’t work i dont know why)

Add New Reminder Action - Questions

  1. Is it possible to use “Choose” or “Ask Each Time” for the Tags field?
  2. Is it possible to create a shortcut that opens the “New Reminder” interface within the Reminder app for quick entry? (trying to replicate the Things “New To-Do” widget)

Thanks in advance!

Charging animation when plug-in without any Apps.

Hi,

Charging animation without Apps. 🤓

1) Download a Gif file

  • Use any gif file (or download a short video animation iPhone on Pinterest for example and convert it into a Gif).
  • Put your GIF in My Documents on your iPhone.

2) Create 2 automation

  • One to launch the GIF when the iPhone is plugged in
  • One to return to home screen when unplugged

Look at the picture below (in french sorry)

PS : Add zoom action

  • plugged in : Enable "zoom" switch to display the GIF in full screen
  • Unplugged : Disable "Zoom" on the zoom when I return to the iPhone home screen.

Streaming apps menu shortcut with icons

u/throw-wayflamingo originally created this type of shortcut. Well done 👏🏻👏🏻

You can add this as one icon to your home screen instead of a folder or as a widget, as I have done.
