This subreddit is for the Shortcuts app for iOS and macOS. This app allows you to create and share Shortcuts. Shortcuts are scripts that automate tasks. These can be triggered manually or through Siri, and in some exceptional circumstances they can be triggered through external inputs. (Like NFC)

In addition to Reddit's rules, this subreddit has some additional rules:
Rule name | Description |
---|---|
Rule 1: Stay related to Shortcuts. | Content without any significant commentary relevant to the Shortcuts app and related features may be removed. |
Rule 2: Don't link to illegally hosted content. | Do not include links in your posts or shortcuts to places that violate copyright law, such as torrent sites or free streaming sites. |
Rule 3: Use Imgur/Gfycat/Reddit to host media. | You should only use Imgur, Gfycat, or Reddit to host media, such as screenshots, GIFs, and videos. See rule #5 for information on how to share links to shortcuts. |
Rule 4: Be civil. | If what you want to say is not civil, please do not post it at all. |
Rule 5: Shortcut posts must include a shortcut link. | All posts marked with the 'shortcut' flair must have a link, whether it is as the URL provided in a link post or somewhere in the body of a text post. Links can be to iCloud or RoutineHub. |
Rule 6: Shortcut posts must fully describe the shortcut. | All posts marked with the 'shortcut' flair must have an explanation of the shared shortcut. This can be in the body of a text post or in a comment on a link post. Shortcuts that maliciously conceal the purpose of high-risk actions (such as send message) violate this rule. Post titles requesting help must include a description of the help being sought. |
Rule 7: Shortcuts should be shared through a trusted site | To ensure safety and authenticity of shared shortcuts, we ask that all shared shortcuts use an iCloud link or RoutineHub link. Make sure to share the original link if it is not your own shortcut you are sharing. Regenerating a link for someone else's work makes it hard to know if it was modified in some way, and it also doesn't gain their shortcut another download (shortcut sharing site). |
Rule 8: Use post flair properly | When setting your post flair, consider the options before setting it: If you are sharing a shortcut, then choose 'Shortcut Sharing'. If you need help, use 'Help'. Please also be sure to set the post flair to 'Solved' when your request or help item has been resolved. This helps to reduce the number of posts that end up in the 'Help' and 'Request' filters. If you are sharing a tip or guide, use the 'Tip/Guide' flair. |

I've created an automation (IOS 17) that opens 2 apps when connecting to Carplay (Flitsmeister and Spotify). It works when my phone is unlocked but when my phone is locked it will ask me to confirm before running the automation. Does anybody know how to run this automation without confirmation?
Since we don’t have much choice in the sleep schedule alarm, I was wondering if we could automatically set an alarm at the exact same hour the sleep schedule is set to Like if I change my sleep schedule the day before, the alarm will change too Is there any way to do that ??
I’m new to shortcuts app, and want to try it out. What I’m trying to do is calling my friend repeatedly until they answer. If the call is not answered, send a message. This loop will repeat for only 5 times.
I’ve already set up the automation that executes this shortcut at 3am everyday. During testing, i encounter a problem where even if the call is answered, the loop continues and calls the number again, therefore leaving the current call on hold. How do I set this up that exits the shortcut when my friend answers the phone?
Hello
is there a way to call the new translation action for the button inside a shortcut ?
Thankss
Is there a list of all 3rd party apps that Shortcuts has actions for? I’m not asking about the apps that have provided their own ready-made simple shortcuts recently. For example, I have written some stuff for GoodTask myself, using the GoodTask actions. But I had to search for them to find them. I would like to have a link to a maintained list of apps, so that I can periodically check if something useful has been added.
Is there anyway i can make a focus turn on when my headphones connect and turn off when they disconnect?
Hello. Is there a way to set the automation to be executed by a code word received in message (iMessage/text) from ANYONE, regardless of the sender? I want a code word to be sent to my phone to execute the automation, but I’m only able to set up one by specifying the sender. I’d need this to work if the message came from whatever phone number even it’s not saved in my phonebook. Is there any way to set this up? Thanks!
I put an automation to lock my iPhone whenever some apps are open (bank, email, messages etc). It’s an extra protection if someone snatches my device unlocked, but it’s a pain in the a** keep this automation on while I’m home. I even tried to create an automation based on my location, but there’s nothing to turn on/off, it’s all like: when I arrive place run shortcut
Edit: English is not my mother language so pls be patient, however feel comfortable to correct my grammar
I made two scenes. First one is hue lights alternating red/green then another with the opposite green/red. Then a shortcut to run scene 1, wait 5 seconds, run scene 2, wait 5 seconds, repeat.
And I set repeat to 1000 times.
It fails after about 10 minutes. I’ve tried running it from iPhone, and Mac.

This is a shortcut I made for creating blank and transparent icons on my iPhone Xs to create different ios setups. This shortcut is only optimised for iPhone X/Xs/11 Pro/12 Mini/13 Mini Only. Posted here in case if anyone needed.
i’ve been customizing my home screen quite a bit the last couple days by making a ton of my own icons to use, and after setting up a bunch of shortcuts on my home screen to use them, i realized they no longer show the notification count. i suppose it makes sense since they aren’t the actual app, but is there any way to have the number display on the shortcut icons?
I normally have my phone set where I can triple click the home button and press “color filters” so that my phone becomes red tinted (easier on the eyes at night). However, it seems that Apple only allows “color filters” to have one specific preset. So if I want to have a quick way to change from normal to greyscale or some other color besides red, I’d have to go into settings and change it. I’d like to be able to, if possible, use shortcuts to quickly change my color filters to greyscale or red tint. Also, this may be a completely different shortcut question (and forgive me if it’s stupid, I’m a beginner), but I was wondering if there was a way to make a shortcut work like an on/off switch. So for this example, I would like to have a shortcut that, when clicked while in regular color mode, enables color filters, and when I already have color filters enabled, clicking it would disable them. Thank you to anyone who reads this and offers any suggestions!
Is there a way to create a shortcut that plays one of the notification sounds after say, 20 minutes?
This shortcut randomly picks from a list of over 300 motivational quotes, and speaks the result!
All you have to do is put it in any automation, or not it’s up to you!

If you need more help with it, let me know. I can also add extra features if you’d like?
I have a shortcut that takes a Mail message link and puts it in a reminder into the URL field. It usually works fine but occasionally it thinks a message URL isn't a URL despite the fact that it works fine in Safari if I put it in the URL field and opens the email. For example:
This is a valid URL according to Shortcuts:
message://%3CKL1PR04MB758166354CE3FB526D8DFDC18A84A@KL1PR04MB7581.apcprd04.prod.outlook.com%3E
But this isn't:
message://%3C2017102_@TLZ_ITC%20Hotels_8800227_97575134_3_723181_9863793_@TLZ%3E
I'm trying to work our what the difference is to see if I can have shortcuts change something in the format of the second to make it see it as a URL but can't work out why it doesn't see it as a valid URL. Is anyone able to help?
This may seem counterintuitive, but I want to build an alarm that doesn't go off until I wake up.
My situation is I sometimes wake up and toss around for an hour or two before an external factor drives me to get out of bed (zoom call, hungry, pet needs attention, etc). I want to take advantage of my morning on days when I wake up earlier than usual, but don't want to set a rigid alarm that might wake me up before I want to be awake.
Is there some way to trigger audio/video in response to movement? Say, if it's after 6am, the first time my iPhone is unlocked or detects that it's being held, it begins playing music or a YouTube video.
Some sort of a responsive alarm clock, something that gives me an extra nudge, needed to get me out of bed, but only AFTER I've woken up already. Thoughts?
Hi,
I have an Aqara detector which detects when my appartment door is opened. The Aqara app sends me a regular push notification along with the regular notification system sound and I cannot change this sound. Would it be possible to create a simple shortcut which would plays a custom sound when this app sends me this kind of notification? Thanks.
Hi everyone, I wanna ask, would it be somehow possible to create a shortcut that will turn off or on(depends on current state) equalizer in spotify settings? I like to use eq for airpods, but when I connect to my stereo I want it off. Any tips?
Thanks a lot
My third party backup camera has an iPad app. I would like this app to appear in the foreground when I'm backing up. Any clue if this is possible?
Hello everyone,
I’d like to create a multifunctional shortcut that changes what it does based on my location and/or time. For example, if it’s 06:45AM and I’m at location 1, the shortcut will send a message to person A letting them know I’ve arrived. But when it’s 3:30PM, I want the shortcut to let person A know I’m on my way home and other likewise functions. But I don’t get how to configure that.
How do I do this?
I'd like to disable Camera app on my iPhone and then enable it when I need it. This is done in Settings but requires a couple of steps: Settings>Screen Time>Content & Privacy...>Allowed Apps>Camera[toggle off/on]
Any way to make it into one click?
By the way, doing this because my iPhone keeps opening Camera in my pocket.
Hohoho everyone,
so I want to set up an automation that gets the alarm time of my health/clock app on my iPhone and sets the alarm for the next morning on my Google Nest Hub via the „Ask Google“ command in the shortcuts app.
Is this possible like this or in any (workaround) way? I know, integrating Apple‘s and Google‘s systems with one another is a pain but since I just spent a shit ton of money on a M1 Air, I won’t be having the funds to exchange my Google Home with HomePods…
So any help is much appreciated! :)
My airpods are paired with my iPhone 15 and my Windows 11 Laptop, Can y'all assist with creating a shortcut for my iPhone to 'take control' back and reconnect to the airpods?
