Rules

In addition to Reddit's rules, this subreddit has some additional rules:

Rule name Description
Rule 1: Stay related to Shortcuts. Content without any significant commentary relevant to the Shortcuts app and related features may be removed.
Rule 2: Don't link to illegally hosted content. Do not include links in your posts or shortcuts to places that violate copyright law, such as torrent sites or free streaming sites.
Rule 3: Use Imgur/Gfycat/Reddit to host media. You should only use Imgur, Gfycat, or Reddit to host media, such as screenshots, GIFs, and videos. See rule #5 for information on how to share links to shortcuts.
Rule 4: Be civil. If what you want to say is not civil, please do not post it at all.
Rule 5: Shortcut posts must include a shortcut link. All posts marked with the 'shortcut' flair must have a link, whether it is as the URL provided in a link post or somewhere in the body of a text post. Links can be to iCloud or RoutineHub.
Rule 6: Shortcut posts must fully describe the shortcut. All posts marked with the 'shortcut' flair must have an explanation of the shared shortcut. This can be in the body of a text post or in a comment on a link post. Shortcuts that maliciously conceal the purpose of high-risk actions (such as send message) violate this rule. Post titles requesting help must include a description of the help being sought.
Rule 7: Shortcuts should be shared through a trusted site To ensure safety and authenticity of shared shortcuts, we ask that all shared shortcuts use an iCloud link or RoutineHub link. Make sure to share the original link if it is not your own shortcut you are sharing. Regenerating a link for someone else's work makes it hard to know if it was modified in some way, and it also doesn't gain their shortcut another download (shortcut sharing site).
Rule 8: Use post flair properly When setting your post flair, consider the options before setting it: If you are sharing a shortcut, then choose 'Shortcut Sharing'. If you need help, use 'Help'. Please also be sure to set the post flair to 'Solved' when your request or help item has been resolved. This helps to reduce the number of posts that end up in the 'Help' and 'Request' filters. If you are sharing a tip or guide, use the 'Tip/Guide' flair.

Shortcuts constantly freezing?

Some of my shortcuts keep constantly freezing up. Daily occurrence at the moment. I'll tap on a shortcut, and it doesn't run. Tap another time, still doesn't run. Happens with home screen shortcuts, but now also with shortcuts in the Widgets pane to the left.

If one shortcut freezes up, then almost all of the others freeze up.

I have to reboot my phone every time, which is a complete waste of time (and kind of defeats the purpose of using Shortcuts in the first place).

(Was happening with previous version of iOS. Updated iOS, but still happening.)

Chat GPT message responder shortcut?

Has anyone made or thought of making a shortcut that essentially can have chat got reply to the messages based on prompts given? Essentially like the chat boats you see on many lead capture websites. Is this even possible?

[Update] SCSettings 2.3 - Quickly Access Toggles & Settings - Toggles Now Vibrate & Show A Confirmation Message

https://preview.redd.it/hpezpi5fw21d1.png?width=2880&format=png&auto=webp&s=8b4bbe6c8d74f20d35cf2a37afe60a3893210329

Hey guys!

I'm back with an update for SCSettings.

If you haven't checked it out yet, check this post, and this one as well.

Anyway, after getting feedback that the toggles don't have a confirmation message I went ahead and added that in. I also added a `Vibrate Device` action as well to provide that little extra touch.

  • Note: there is no way for Shortcuts to actually tell if settings like Wi-Fi or Bluetooth are actually on or not so the message just confirms that you've pressed the button. If there was I would make all of the icons dynamic, which would be cool.
    • I have been testing it for months and I've never had it fail.

Let me know what you think!

How to add multiple contacts using shortcuts?

I have a group of coworkers who all need to add the same 50 contacts to their phone. I would love to be able to share a shortcut that adds all of the contacts to their phone automatically.

Ideally it would check to see if the number already exists in their phone so it doesn’t duplicate contacts or if someone accidentally runs the automation twice.

Add items to shopping list from web app

This is sort of weird, but I'm working on a web application that I can use to generate dinner ideas, and then select items from the ingredients list to then send to my shopping list.

https://codepen.io/Rafferty-Brown/pen/eYaJpLW

This is a link to a rough idea of the application, but at the end of it all the "share shopping list" button is able to share a txt file of whatever items I selected in the shopping list section.

In a perfect world, I would like to be able to add each of these items to my walmart cart via the walmart app shortcut,

but... it would also be okay if I could just somehow add these to my shopping list in either notes or reminders on my iPhone.

Is something like this possible? Thanks!

Edit: thanks everyone for the suggestions. Solved!

Schedule WhatsApp messages

Hi! I just created my first shortcut and wanted to share it to get some feedback. I hope you enjoy it 😊

First, I created a shortcut to schedule a message using Reminders app to be able to schedule for any future date (I created a separate list called Messages for this). Then, I made another shortcut to send today’s scheduled messages. I set an automation to run daily at 09:30 AM and run this shortcut.

I struggle with insomnia and often remember a bunch of things to do, telling myself I’ll send a message first thing tomorrow, but I usually forget. I created this shortcut to send messages for setting medical appointments, talking to businesses, giving birthday compliments, and any silly message that’s not worth sending at the middle of the night 😅

Create Reminder When Tesla Charge Port Opens

My car charger requires connecting to the internet to start charging. I don't have reception in my garage, so I have to turn it on after getting into the house. This is something I often forget to do, so I'd love to set up a shortcut that creates a reminder X minutes after my Tesla's charge port is open.

Is this possible with Shortcuts?

Getting location of contact that you share location with

I'm trying to build a shortcut that automatically sends the drive time to my wife when I pick her up from work. Would like to automate sending this text when my phone is plugged into CarPlay and the location is set to her office. I was trying to do it by getting her location but Shortcuts doesn't seem to be able to do that.

Anyone have some suggestions on how to do this?

Thanks in advance.

iOS shortcut: disconnection-timer

I've almost overslept several times in the last few days, as my alarm clock has recently stopped ringing loudly on my iPhone, but continues to ring on my AirPods, which sometimes fall out of my ears during the night, so I ask myself the following question:

Is it possible to write a shortcut that sets a timer to a user-defined time, after which the iPhone automatically disconnects from previously defined devices or even switches off the Bluetooth or Wi-Fi completely?

This should actually solve the problem and the alarm clock should ring loudly on the phone again, shouldn't it?

Many thanks in advance for your help and contributions!

The random number “game”

It has a tutorial in it, which is spoken with the Speak Text action. I made it so almost everything is set up before the game starts, basic stuff like “how many rounds” and “how big can the number be” which is the Difficulty of the game. The higher the number the harder it is to guess. It is also a function on the supershortcut. (F17)

Notify from work phone when I receive a message?

I have a work phone that I keep work related message conversations exclusively on, but I don’t always have that phone on my person. Is there a way to setup a shortcut that will notify my personal phone or automatically send something to phone when that phone receives a message from a specific contact?

A double condition in automation

I am new to automations. I have successfully built an automation to call a number when approaching a location. This is how we open the gate in the parking lot. But the automation starts for me even when I approach on foot. I would need to chain the condition with the condition of connecting the iPhone to my car's Bluetooth. Does anyone have any ideas for a solution please?

Amending / recording data from calendars into a spreadsheet?

I want to know, is there any way to initially export my current entire calendar to a spreadsheet to show Event name, date & time.

After that, is there any way I can create a shortcut which will check if any new calendar entries were made that day and then record them to the existing spreadsheet?

Automate your wake-up routine

you like to check the football score from your team's game last night. Maybe you want to get today's weather or do the crossword. Whatever it is, you can use the Alarm trigger to automate whatever you want to do next

Introducing the Gibberish Maker 5000

The Gibberish Maker 5000 consists of 26 ifs, each with a text action with the letters A through Z and a space. Then it shows all the results, a vertical line of gibberish. Also you can choose how long the line should be.

Website for creating and editing Shortcuts? A windows program?

I found this website for creating Shortcuts, but it won’t let me import “unsigned” Shortcuts from the page: https://shortcutsweb.app/#/

Am I doing something wrong or the site? If it’s the site, is there another one that works? It’s just much easier to edit in a format like this.

Also, is there a way, website or program, to edit Shortcuts from a Windows PC?

Using ChatGPT4o to debug Shortcuts

The latest version of ChatGPT -- version 4o (as in 'oh') can accept and interpret an image upload of an Apple Shortcut. If the Shortcut is longer than a single screen, applications like 'CleanShot' can take a scrolling image.

Once uploaded, the AI can explain what the shortcut does. It can also explain how to fix errors.

It's not perfect but it helped me yesterday.

Are there better debugging tools for Shortcuts?

Is there a way to change the lockscreen background based on light/darkmode without messing with the focus?

I’ve gotten this to work by selecting a focus based on sunrise/sunset which is the same time my light/dark mode triggers. Is there an alternative way to do this without doing it via focus changes?
I saw this command but it doesn’t let me choose an image, it only lets me select those 3 strings

Edit: figured it out by running an automation to run a shortcut on sunrise/sunset. The shortcut is “Switch to Wallpaper”
