Rules

In addition to Reddit's rules, this subreddit has some additional rules:

Rule name Description
Rule 1: Stay related to Shortcuts. Content without any significant commentary relevant to the Shortcuts app and related features may be removed.
Rule 2: Don't link to illegally hosted content. Do not include links in your posts or shortcuts to places that violate copyright law, such as torrent sites or free streaming sites.
Rule 3: Use Imgur/Gfycat/Reddit to host media. You should only use Imgur, Gfycat, or Reddit to host media, such as screenshots, GIFs, and videos. See rule #5 for information on how to share links to shortcuts.
Rule 4: Be civil. If what you want to say is not civil, please do not post it at all.
Rule 5: Shortcut posts must include a shortcut link. All posts marked with the 'shortcut' flair must have a link, whether it is as the URL provided in a link post or somewhere in the body of a text post. Links can be to iCloud or RoutineHub.
Rule 6: Shortcut posts must fully describe the shortcut. All posts marked with the 'shortcut' flair must have an explanation of the shared shortcut. This can be in the body of a text post or in a comment on a link post. Shortcuts that maliciously conceal the purpose of high-risk actions (such as send message) violate this rule. Post titles requesting help must include a description of the help being sought.
Rule 7: Shortcuts should be shared through a trusted site To ensure safety and authenticity of shared shortcuts, we ask that all shared shortcuts use an iCloud link or RoutineHub link. Make sure to share the original link if it is not your own shortcut you are sharing. Regenerating a link for someone else's work makes it hard to know if it was modified in some way, and it also doesn't gain their shortcut another download (shortcut sharing site).
Rule 8: Use post flair properly When setting your post flair, consider the options before setting it: If you are sharing a shortcut, then choose 'Shortcut Sharing'. If you need help, use 'Help'. Please also be sure to set the post flair to 'Solved' when your request or help item has been resolved. This helps to reduce the number of posts that end up in the 'Help' and 'Request' filters. If you are sharing a tip or guide, use the 'Tip/Guide' flair.

WhatsApp shortcut

I wanted to ask if someone could make a shortcut that automatically sends a WhatsApp message. The group I want to send a message to doesn’t allow messages but it’s opened on a random time during the day and you have to be the first person to send a message to win something. So it should attempt to send a message the whole time like every 5s and stop when it successfully sent a message. Thanks in advance

How Can I Use the iPhone 15 Pro Action Button or Siri Shortcuts to Trigger OpenAI Whisper Voice-to-Text?

Is there a way to use shortcuts to trigger OpenAI’s voice-to-text functionality (like Whisper API) for natural text transcription?

How do I make an automation with WhatsApp

I’m trying to create a shortcut that make it so that when I start a WhatsApp message with the word IMPORTANT (enter) it activates a shortcut that make the receiver’s phone buzz and play a sound. I’ve got it to work with SMS but not WhatsApp, how do I do it?

Create alarm if not exists, else toggle

I have a shortcut that prompts me for an input time, then sets an alarm for 5 minutes later and 10 minutes later. Been using it for a few weeks now and realized I now have hundreds of alarms, which i guess works but kinda spams my alarms page. How could I edit this to toggle all 3 alarms for the given time input if they already exist, and create them if not?

Convert current time to other time zones using Apple Shortcut

In my work, I often need to remind my globally distributed team about meetings scheduled in different timezones. However, I sometimes struggle to accurately list all the time values, so I created an Apple Shortcut to convert the current time into different time zones and copy the formatted text to my clipboard for easy sharing.

To use the shortcut, select the text displaying the time, then access it via the Services menu or the keyboard shortcut ^ ⌘ T. The time will be converted to the specified time zones and copied to your clipboard, ready to paste into your message.

See it in action over here.

Not working→SC to make alarm based on calendar

I have a shortcut with automation which I was hoping would create alarms based on calendar events for the day. However, it only makes alarms for the first event of the day—even after the time for that event had passed.

For example, I have an event at 12-1:30pm and another at 3-4pm. The automation will create alarms as I expected for 12pm. But, come time for the 3pm, when the automation is triggered, it just recreates the 12pm alarm.

How do I correct for this?

ChatGPT initially told me to use "Sort by" Start Date / Oldest which also did not work. The terminology gpt used doesn't even exist in iOS 18 anymore.

Been Receiving a Notification of Hidden Automation

Dear Redditors,

For less than a month, I've been receiving a "Running Your Automation" notification for a automation I've never set before.

That happens when my phone is on airplane mode at night.

The only automation currently active on my phone is a scheduled task in 12am (daily) but the mysterious notification has received in 3-4am at midnight.

This happened to me 2-3 times so far and Dunno the exact reason for this.

I assume my phone was not hacked as this happened during airplane mode off.

So what's is this? Should I be worried?

Many thanks in advance.

Loop and Audible book?

Since Audible doesn’t have a loop option, I was wondering if this would do the trick. It would read the book a second time after waiting 2 hours. I guess the only way to know is to try it I suppose, right?

Find Calendar Times

I have this Find Calendar shortcut which generally works but can have false positives. The missing component is the event time. How would I build this in to include AND starts at 11:00pm??

Number not Showing

I made this shortcut and it guesses what number you are thinking. Without using your number on anything except on 2 things, but on the second try (when it tries to guess your number,) the number doesn’t appear.

I built some shortcuts that use ChatGPT to manage your calendar like a personal assistant (guide + shortcuts)

Hey r/shortcuts !

I wanted to share something I've been working on that's made my life way easier. I created a set of shortcuts that basically turn Siri + ChatGPT into a really smart calendar assistant.

The shortcuts can:

  • Add tasks to your calendar using natural language (it figures out the best time and duration)
  • Automatically reorganize your schedule when things take longer than expected
  • Let you "chat" with your calendar to get insights and suggestions

I've put together a detailed guide on setting it up (link below). It works with both Apple Calendar and Google Calendar, and optionally Notion via 2sync. You'll need ChatGPT installed, but you don't need to interact with it directly - the shortcuts handle everything.

If you have an iPhone with an Action Button, you can make a Shortcut with a list of these actions or bind your favorite of these actions to enable using it easily anywhere on your phone.

Get the shortcuts

I’m considering making a video guide to go along with this, but for now, please let me know what questions you have here :)

edit: the hidden links to the shortcuts are now visible, sorry!

Alarms for shift work

I am new to the shortcuts app and just can’t seem to get my shortcut to work as it should.

I have made it so that it creates an alarm depending on my shift time the next day, this was the easy part. When I tried to make so that;

IF the alarm exists then turn it on it Else create alarm

It seems to always just create a new alarm and I end up with duplicates, is there an easy fix for this?

For reference my shifts can vary massively from 6am start to 8pm start. Eventually I’ll only want it to set my alarms if shift starts before X time but that’s a future problem and probably a much easier one with an IF statement.

Carplay Bluetooth Shortcut

I just installed a Carplay screen in my car. I want to use my phone and my wife's phone with the screen. The problem I have is that it only auto connects to Carplay to the last phone used. So if my wife was the last to connect, then I get in the car, I have to open Settings on my phone, then click Bluetooth, and then click the Carplay screen. Can anyone think of a Shortcut I can set up on our phones to automatically choose the Carplay screen in the Bluetooth settings?

Shortcut vs automation?

When I create a shortcut I have tons of actions to choose from, but in an automation (that has been converted to a shortcut) I only have very few. What am I missing? :)

I have created a shortcut now and want to make just that one to an automation - can I do it? When a temp sensor change value I want a notification.

Thanks!

4 whole days without sync conflicts!

I'm ashamed to say I've spent 100s of hours working on this over the years.

I'm still on ipad/iOS 17 and Mac 14. One of these 3 things I did a few days ago seems to have fixed it:

  1. "Clear"/Delete completed reminders. I had 2000 of them.

  2. Hide old calendar items on mobile. Settings>Calendar>Sync. I have ~10 events per day, so this was another few thousand items cleared from sync.

  3. Set and confirm all network traffic is using the same DNS servers. I had played with some different ones in the past. Made sure all devices are using router as DNS, and Router is using 8.8.8.8. and 8.8.4.4.

Try them one at a time to help find the culprit!

If it doesn't work, or for anybody else still dealing with this in 2024, have you ever:

  • migrated your mac mail (and maybe some of your keychain) manually? Like when moving to a new Apple ID, or if you get a new machine, instead of using migration assistant?
  • set up a hackintosh?

Existing shortcut/automation to remind me 2-3 hours before every Arsenal game?

I’m a massive Arsenal Football Club fan and need some help with reminders before the game as my schedule runs really tight and I end up missing many games.

Is there a shortcut/automation that will automatically refresh the schedule and set up reminders for every game? If not, can someone help me set it up?

May sound frivolous but it’ll be truly helpful in managing my time and I’ll be eternally grateful…

Request: Self-Destruct Shortcut for Emergency Situations

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to create an iOS Shortcut that acts as a “self-destruct” button in case my phone is ever confiscated by authorities or in any other emergency situation. Here’s what I’d like the Shortcut to do: 1. Erase all sensitive data (e.g., messages, specific apps, photos). 2. Log out of all accounts. 3. Disable Face ID/Touch ID and require only the passcode. 4. Possibly display a decoy app or screen. 5. Send an emergency alert to a pre-set contact with my location.

Is this even possible to achieve within the limitations of iOS Shortcuts, or would this require additional apps/tools? If anyone has suggestions or has done something similar, I’d really appreciate your help!

Thanks in advance!

Is there any way to force to show the full text?

As you can see, the text of the shown result is clipped. Is there any way to force to show the full text? is this a bug? I've managed to show the whole text by changing iPad text size to max, but I wonder if there's a proper way to show it properly without needing to change the text size.

Shortcut is at the end of this web page: https://www.tomsguide.com/how-to/how-to-check-your-ipads-battery-health
