This subreddit is devoted to Shortcuts. Shortcuts is an Apple app for automation on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
This subreddit is for the Shortcuts app for iOS and macOS. This app allows you to create and share Shortcuts. Shortcuts are scripts that automate tasks. These can be triggered manually or through Siri, and in some exceptional circumstances they can be triggered through external inputs. (Like NFC)

In addition to Reddit's rules, this subreddit has some additional rules:
Rule name | Description |
---|---|
Rule 1: Stay related to Shortcuts. | Content without any significant commentary relevant to the Shortcuts app and related features may be removed. |
Rule 2: Don't link to illegally hosted content. | Do not include links in your posts or shortcuts to places that violate copyright law, such as torrent sites or free streaming sites. |
Rule 3: Use Imgur/Gfycat/Reddit to host media. | You should only use Imgur, Gfycat, or Reddit to host media, such as screenshots, GIFs, and videos. See rule #5 for information on how to share links to shortcuts. |
Rule 4: Be civil. | If what you want to say is not civil, please do not post it at all. |
Rule 5: Shortcut posts must include a shortcut link. | All posts marked with the 'shortcut' flair must have a link, whether it is as the URL provided in a link post or somewhere in the body of a text post. Links can be to iCloud or RoutineHub. |
Rule 6: Shortcut posts must fully describe the shortcut. | All posts marked with the 'shortcut' flair must have an explanation of the shared shortcut. This can be in the body of a text post or in a comment on a link post. Shortcuts that maliciously conceal the purpose of high-risk actions (such as send message) violate this rule. Post titles requesting help must include a description of the help being sought. |
Rule 7: Shortcuts should be shared through a trusted site | To ensure safety and authenticity of shared shortcuts, we ask that all shared shortcuts use an iCloud link or RoutineHub link. Make sure to share the original link if it is not your own shortcut you are sharing. Regenerating a link for someone else's work makes it hard to know if it was modified in some way, and it also doesn't gain their shortcut another download (shortcut sharing site). |
Rule 8: Use post flair properly | When setting your post flair, consider the options before setting it: If you are sharing a shortcut, then choose 'Shortcut Sharing'. If you need help, use 'Help'. Please also be sure to set the post flair to 'Solved' when your request or help item has been resolved. This helps to reduce the number of posts that end up in the 'Help' and 'Request' filters. If you are sharing a tip or guide, use the 'Tip/Guide' flair. |

I want to use my action button to turn a light to a random color (for example: blue, red or green).
Is that possible? The only way I can imagine, is to define scenes and then randomly execute those.
But can I somehow set a specific color from a shortcut? Maybe not only randomly but based on a variable?
Looking for a shortcut to be able to turn off my child’s Cubo baby monitor white noise.
Has anyone managed to do this or know any tutorials I can watch to make this possible please?
This is such a game changer for making contextual shortcuts!

Feel like this is an issue I have seen talked about but haven’t seemed to find a simple solution.
I use a the shortcut menu for my action button. As a result, I have a shortcut in there to toggle silent mode on and off. When using the action button as a silent on/off alone, there is both haptic feedback difference between silent on vs off, as well as a visual display in the Dynamic Island.
Is there anyway to recreate the toggle silent on/off that also provide the same haptic feedback and the Dynamic Island display as the native function when using the action button for silent mode?
I have a shortcut that gets text from an image and outputs it like this:
WORD 1 2 3 WORD 1 2 3
"WORD" is then used to split the text into a list, but Split Text always ignores the first instance of it because it is at the start of the text. The word is messing up the rest of the shortcut, so I have to remove it, but how? I've been trying to use replace text, but it hasn't been working since I'm rubbish at using RegEx.
With Gemini app launched on iPhone, is there a way to directly access Gemini Live with a shortcut on the action button? I can see there is no direct shortcut integration (yet) however there were some open commands with the Google app to open Gemini. Anything similar with the new Gemini?
My work requires me to use a scheduling website on my phone a dozen times a day, but the website wants an authentication code from the Google app every time. Is there any way to automate the copying of the code when I login so I can paste it straight away, without needing to close to site, open Authenticator and back again every time? 🤔
I'm not really sure where else to post this. I saw an app called a-shell that can be used with ios shortcuts. I want to install spotdl, which uses python. It should be able to run in a-shell because a-shell can run python, but when I run a pip install, i always get errors. Does anyone know how I could install spotdl into a-shell so I can use it with shortcuts?
If this in off-topic, please redirect me to another sub that would be more fitting. Thanks.
I’m trying to create an automation to add any new releases from MusicHarbor to a playlist in my library, but I’m hitting a few snags.
Here’s where the shortcut is at the moment: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/c35d853d26bd423a92752ccff616ac7d it’s gone through a few revisions/experimentation so it might be a bit rough around the edges at the moment.
Thanks for any help!
I want to create a shortcut that toggles silent mode on or off without any lists and give a notification saying silent mode on or off depending on the status.
Is this possible ?
Thanks in advance! Been able to guess most schemes for the apps I want to open but can’t figure out this one.
Hello :)
I'm currently building a shortcut on Mac where I'm asking for several inputs and in the end I build a CSV line. I want to display the text, but with Show Alert or Show Notification, I cannot copy the text. I know I can append it to a .numbers file, but I wanted to be able to copy the text for other purposes in a pragmatic way.
Any ideas?
I am fairly new to shortcuts, I use just a couple but wanting to expand. What is your favorite shortcut? One you can’t live without?
Hi! This is the function I made and somehow it would just go on and on. I think i made a mistake with calculation expression part, yet I’m not sure what the problem is. Does anyone know what’s wrong here?
Hi I use the choose from menu to set a timer for my rest periods for my workouts but 3 or 4 times during my workout I have to delete the shortcut because it stops working
Side note the shortcut is activated by opening an app
Anybody experiencing the same problem or have a solution
Thanks in advance
I can manually see events of calendar of person I am acting as delegate and can get alert. can I search events of calendar of another Apple ID I added to my device?
Has there been the opportunity to use a shortcut on an employer owned system, and would that be worth including in a resume?
I’ve used a shortcut move files around based on numbers in a spreadsheet, but I wouldn’t yet include Shortcuts as Software Experience on my resume.
As of recently (I can only imagine it is since 18.1) whenever I run a shortcut the toast notification at the top of the screen stays there and blocks the view. If I swipe it away it stops the action of the shortcut, but the problem is that it is in the way of some buttons I need to press on screen.
Anyone else have this issue?
I have a few different playlists in Apple Music, and am curious if I can create a shortcut to expedite adding a song to any combination of playlists.
For example, suppose there’s 4 playlists: A, B, C and D. It would be helpful if I could run a shortcut that adds the current song to A, B, and D, or C and D, etc. depending on a choice or action I take. Is such a thing possible?
Hi all. I’ve tried few times about setting up my data roaming shortcut to restrict some apps from using data when I’m out of the country try but no luck. Essentially, when I travel out of the country, I’d want to restrict data usage across certain apps - say as an example, Music or Reddit or Instagram etc. right now I toggle each time to ensure I don’t exhaust my data on roaming - sometimes it’s difficult to remember what happens in the background - like Photos being uploaded to iCloud etc.
any suggestions how I can orchestrate this?
Hi,
How to create the shortcut that automatically Plays Music To the HomePod if connected to the "X" wifi ?
I created this shortcut to help manage my anxiety. You can easily swap out Things for Reminders and choose your own playlist and distraction source.

Hi there! I’ve been having this issue where my AirPods Pro 2 don’t work when I use the shortcut, but they work fine when I set it to adaptive. Do you have any ideas why this might be happening? I’m on iOS 18.1. Thanks!
I am trying to set up an automation that logs an expense when I order something off Amazon. The problem is, when the email arrives, the automation triggers, but is unable to extract the amount from the content of the email. When I forward the email to myself it works, and also when I copy/paste the content in question into RegEx 101 all seems good.
The part of the email I am trying to match looks like this:
Pasted into RegEx101 it looks like this:
When using the same RegEx inside the automation, group 2 does not seem to contain the amount though.
Every time I launch the shortcut the prompt that shows the shortcut's progress just refuses to budge and prevents me from typing anything out. I have tried this with and without the physical keyboard attached to my iPad, I have also tried launching the shortcut from the home screen, and while counter-intuitive I have also tried launching the shortcut directly from the shortcuts app. So far the last option is the only one that works but by that point it's ridiculously pointless as you can just open the messages app and press the compose button with the same amount of button presses.
I'm looking for an emergency way to quickly reboot or lock my phone if it ever get snatched from me while unlock using the action button on my pixel watch. Is there a way to do this via Bluetooth? I know the right way to do this is to just buy the Apple Watch Ultra but it is way beyond my budget for such watch. Any suggestions?
Hey everyone!
So my Idea is: When I‘m not listening to music the action button is supposed to be silent mode (which it is right now) and as soon as I start listening to music I want that my action button switches functinality to skip the current track. Is this possible and if so could someone help me creating this shortcut?
Thanks in advance! 🙆♂️
