This subreddit is devoted to Shortcuts. Shortcuts is an Apple app for automation on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
This subreddit is for the Shortcuts app for iOS and macOS. This app allows you to create and share Shortcuts. Shortcuts are scripts that automate tasks. These can be triggered manually or through Siri, and in some exceptional circumstances they can be triggered through external inputs. (Like NFC)

In addition to Reddit's rules, this subreddit has some additional rules:
Rule name | Description |
---|---|
Rule 1: Stay related to Shortcuts. | Content without any significant commentary relevant to the Shortcuts app and related features may be removed. |
Rule 2: Don't link to illegally hosted content. | Do not include links in your posts or shortcuts to places that violate copyright law, such as torrent sites or free streaming sites. |
Rule 3: Use Imgur/Gfycat/Reddit to host media. | You should only use Imgur, Gfycat, or Reddit to host media, such as screenshots, GIFs, and videos. See rule #5 for information on how to share links to shortcuts. |
Rule 4: Be civil. | If what you want to say is not civil, please do not post it at all. |
Rule 5: Shortcut posts must include a shortcut link. | All posts marked with the 'shortcut' flair must have a link, whether it is as the URL provided in a link post or somewhere in the body of a text post. Links can be to iCloud or RoutineHub. |
Rule 6: Shortcut posts must fully describe the shortcut. | All posts marked with the 'shortcut' flair must have an explanation of the shared shortcut. This can be in the body of a text post or in a comment on a link post. Shortcuts that maliciously conceal the purpose of high-risk actions (such as send message) violate this rule. Post titles requesting help must include a description of the help being sought. |
Rule 7: Shortcuts should be shared through a trusted site | To ensure safety and authenticity of shared shortcuts, we ask that all shared shortcuts use an iCloud link or RoutineHub link. Make sure to share the original link if it is not your own shortcut you are sharing. Regenerating a link for someone else's work makes it hard to know if it was modified in some way, and it also doesn't gain their shortcut another download (shortcut sharing site). |
Rule 8: Use post flair properly | When setting your post flair, consider the options before setting it: If you are sharing a shortcut, then choose 'Shortcut Sharing'. If you need help, use 'Help'. Please also be sure to set the post flair to 'Solved' when your request or help item has been resolved. This helps to reduce the number of posts that end up in the 'Help' and 'Request' filters. If you are sharing a tip or guide, use the 'Tip/Guide' flair. |

We have to constant add these numbers together so why not have prompts then create a note. Ends up the X/Y numbers represent millimeters. Contains Comments to explain.

Hi all,
Please can you help me create a shortcut that will call my gates when I arrive home. The location to activate this will need to be accurate so they will not be activated while I’m walking around the house. I am currently using Siri every time I arrive home in-front of my gates. (Yes they are activated by call)
Many thanks
Shortcuts utilizes Private Relay. So if that is on, then calls to the web from Shortcuts utilize an anonymized IP (on iPhone regardless of default browser; but not on Mac at least if Chrome is default).
But I am finding that the same IP is used throughout the running of a shortcut, i.e., if you open a web view to whatismyip.com twice in one Shortcut, it will show the same IP both times (run the shortcut again, and you'll have a new IP).
I need multiple anonymized IPs within one shortcut. Does anyone know a way to achieve this?
Hey guys, could use some help with this one. I have a relatively simple shortcut that I use a task tracker. In short it finds all not completed tasks within a specific list that has a due date of the current date, ask me to select one and then adds some inputted text to the notes field with the current date. It only communicates with the Reminders app. There’s some stuff after that but it’s pretty much selecting a date to move it to and asking if it’s complete.
The issue I’m having is once I supply the text to add to the notes field, the shortcut stalls and then crashes. I can’t seem to figure it out as to why it’s crashing. So far I’ve tried the below to trouble shoot:
Did have some success with reinstalling the shortcuts app but it was only for one run after the reinstall. It worked once and then started failing again.
Any thoughts? Thank you!
After creation I created an Automation to trigger this shortcut When Battery falls below ___%.
Contains comments for conceptual beginners. I couldn’t find a way to set volume back to previous 🤷♂️. Can get current volume then set to variable. But can’t seem to set volume with that variable. Hope this helps someone.

Hey everyone,
I’m trying to set up an NFC automation to log when I take my ADHD meds in the Health app using Shortcuts, but I can’t find a way to do it.
Here’s what I’ve done so far:
• I have my meds properly set up in the Health app with reminders.
• I tried creating a personal automation triggered by NFC.
• When I use the Log Health Sample action, I don’t see “Medication Taken” or anything to do with meds as an option.
Has anyone found a workaround for this? I thought Apple would allow this since medications are now tracked in Health, but it seems like they haven’t integrated it into Shortcuts yet. Am I missing something?
Any ideas on how to log medication intake automatically using NFC? I am new at this and have no idea how to script it either...
Thanks! 🚀
i have a shortcut mapped to my action button that shuffles my playlist. im trying to change it so that if music is playing, it skips to the next song, but if its not, it shuffles my playlist. is this possible, or is this out of the scope of shortcuts ?
I want to create an automation to stop charging my iPad at 80%. I do not have a smart plug. My iPad is my only Apple device. In the automation settings, I can find the option to check my battery level but no option to stop charging.
It is an iPad Air 5th Gen with iOS 18.3.
I constantly forget my phone in the car. I have a Shortcut set up already for Siri to say "Don't forget your phone" when CarPlay disconnects, but sometimes I'm already out of the car by the time it runs as there's a couple of seconds delay between turning the car off and CarPlay disconnecting.
Is there a way I can also get it to ping my Apple Watch with a reminder?
Hey r/shortcuts,
I'm building an AI-powered journaling system that analyzes various data points (steps, sleep, meeting fatique etc.) to help users identify patterns in their life.
I'd love to add Screen Time data as another signal for pattern analysis, but my current implementation feels hacky:
https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/d510713d16574cafb9860f95034095b0
Current issues:
Has anyone found a more elegant solution for programmatically accessing Screen Time data through Shortcuts? Looking for something more seamless that could run in the background.
Appreciate any insights or alternative approaches! 🙏
Geeks, i need help in making a shortcut:-
- When i start the directions for navigation using apple maps
- turn on always on display on my apple watch
- start a cycling workout
- Play certain playlist from my apple music
Is it possible? am i being optimistic?
I'm new to shortcuts, I never thought it would be so useful, like when, for example, I implemented a shortcut that turns the iPad into a Kindle, using a color filter and etc.
What I'm trying to implement is clocking in when I come into work and clocking in when I leave.
Being such a noob, what I managed to do is open the application at the time I have to clock in, but I would need to click on the clock in button, which is what I'm missing.
When investigating this forum I have seen that the vast majority that have a very high level of automation use Macs and not from the iPhone itself, does anyone have any idea how this function would be performed on iPhone? Apart from opening the app, click on a part of the screen.

Im doing a course for work on how to be a better trainer. At the end, I have 15 minutes to ‘teach’ the class how to do something… anything!
Everyone has iPhones, so I wanted to teach them about shortcuts.
What use case would you recommend I could ‘teach’ to a bunch of novices in 15 minutes?
From the shortcuts I have built, I am tempted to do orientation lock for portrait apps vs landscape.
Any other ideas?
For context, I am a competent user of shortcuts. Thanks!
Hello, I would like to create an automatism that collects images according to certain criteria and moves them to a folder. I would like to have:
Is this possible and does anyone know how I can implement this? I have already tried several different ways but have failed so far!
Ho bisogno di un'automazione che avvii un comando rapido su iphone quando ricevo una notifica da telegram, è possibile?
I have assigned the action button to increase brightness (set brightness to 100%). But I don’t want it from accidentally activating when someone else presses it. So how can I make sure that it only works when it detects my face / when phone is unlocked?
I’ve seen a lot of ppl setup morning summaries and I think that’s great but I want to do something like the following
Good morning
Your drive to work will be X minutes long
Your calendar is X
Chance of rain is X
^^ all the above I’ve accomplished; below is what I need help with
I want it to do the following:
The Houston Rockets play XX today on TNT at 7:00CST, or, The Houston Rockets do not play today
Not a recap of a previous game, not a bunch of other teams, just my team. Same thing for the following:
The Houston Astros play XX today on AppleTV at 7:00CST etc.
Anyone point me in the right direction? Or help me out here?
Thanks,
I’m trying to automate the sending of a message to my wife but it’s not letting me because she has an android is there any way to force send to sms rather than iMessage
Alarm on
Is there a way to make an automation that says like « when I turn on the 6:00 alarm, set volume at 50% »?
I see the set volume option. I see nothing about setting an alarm.
Thanks!
Very annoying that it keeps being deleted because the robot doesn’t like the title 🙄
Can anyone provide a shortcut to choose a random wallpaper pair without choosing the one I’m currently on?
I have a number of automations and shortcuts to play music. My solution works well, but I want to add intelligence to the automations to make the solution more scalable and extensible.
I have written a Shortcut that accepts an Album ID as input, finds it and plays it. I can also embed an Album ID on an NFC tag using NFC Tools. My challenge is that I cannot read the embedded Album ID with an Automation, and pass it to a Shortcut as a parameter.
My stepfather has Parkinson's Disease, advanced to a point that makes it impossible for him to use his phone effectively. He loves to listen to music, but his diction is bad enough that Siri cannot understand him. Smart speakers and Siri commands are ineffective and frustrating.
So I created a number of automations and shortcuts to allow him to play music just by tapping his phone to a pseudo-CD cases with embedded NFC tags. The key is that the solution does not require speaking, or even confirmation on the screen - just tap the phone to a case and it plays.
I have a number of automations triggered by NFC tags that launch shortcuts to play music albums. I have attached a short video to illustrate how it works.

The paired automations and shortcuts are all very simple: the Automation recognizes a specific NFC tag, and calls a purpose built shortcut to play the associated album. I have embedded screen shots at the end of this post for reference. The obvious limitation is that every new album requires a new pseudo-CD case, a new automation and associated shortcut.

Why is it that sometimes speak text on shortcut or automation is chappy or broken? Not always but once in a while.
As title say... I would like when I open YouTube app, to make a shortcut that's gonna activate VPN app ( Surfshark I use) with server in Albania. Is it possible to do something like that? I was trying few times, but keep failing.
Self-explanatory title
My library of shortcuts is a bit cluttered right now. I’m wondering if anyone has used the different colors provided for the icons to keep track of things, like how often you use a shortcut, or how satisfied you are with a shortcut. If so, would you care to share your ideas?
