Anyone hoping California one day turns Republican? I used to vote democratic, but I’m so over the democratic policies ruining this state. I can’t be the only one thinking this.
Left has moved way too left. Sorry guys!
Hey all!
Went to Emo Night last night and had an amazing time. I also love R&B & Ribs in the city. Wondering if there's anything similar but in the above departments? Or clubs that consistently spin hip-hop & R&B?
We've been watching this turkey hang out with her goose friends for over a year. They seem to get along fine, but she does look a little bummed when they go for a swim.
I was on my bicycle with groceries on the handlebars of my bike when I heard the sounds of drums. I looked up and saw a throng of people wearing these bright red 49ers jerseys that said "Niner Noise" over the number 49 and DRUMS!!! A local TV news station seemed to be covering this event. I don't know what the hubbub was about exactly (I'm pretty clueless when it comes to sports of any kind) - but, I found myself getting excited. This is why I like riding my bicycle around town - you get to see humans doing cool things.

Last weekend, the Silicon Valley Curling Club's Team Asis brought home gold from USA Curling's Arena National Championship in Wausau, WI! I had the privilege of a front row seat as their coach. Team Asis won silver at the 2023 event, and they put in extra effort this year to be even stronger contenders this year. The team members play in leagues at Sharks Ice in San Jose and Fremont, and they got in a few extra practice sessions at the San Francisco Bay Area Curling Club in Oakland. The Bay Area curling community is thrilled to see their hard work pay off with a National Championship!

I (25F) just moved to San Jose and I’m looking for a way to make friends and expand my hobbies. I’m trying to focus less on the bar scene/nightlife and do things such as art and music and maybe physical activity (running or dancing). Any cool spots around here? I’m specifically looking for a circle of female friends.
I recieved a notice that we need to repair the sidewalk in front of our house (estimated at around $2,500)
In reading the enforcement code it says that if I elect to not pay the bill, the city will perform the needed repairs and bill me. If I refuse to pay the bill, the city council will hold a public hearing at which time the assessment may be protested.
Has anyone ever done this and were you successful?
It's frustrating that I have to foot the bill for the city when it's a city tree (that i'm not allowed to remove) and its roots that are causing the sidewalk to crack.
preferably metal musicians but id be down to work with anyone. got a few projects started and could use some more creative minds to help us write some sick music. i play guitar and already have a bassist so if you're a guitarist, drummer, or vocalist wanting to write some heavy music hit me up!!
Happy Friday! Feel free to share thoughts about anything related to San Jose or its community. If you have something to share but are not sure whether it deserves its own post, this is the place.
Today’s my birthday and I am all alone. Recently out of a toxic relationship. Don’t want to stay home questioning my life choices. Any suggestions on what to do around BayArea? Taking off from work today, so pretty much have the whole day to myself
okay so i’m still getting used to the HOV lanes here and to be totally honest, i can never tell when lanes are about to turn into HOV lanes. i’m usually so focused on the driving, that i’m not worrying about HOV lanes. i also usually always stay to the right. this morning, on my way to exit onto mountain view, one lane was severely backed up and my GPS was telling me to stay left so i got into the left lane. i looked up and realized i was in the carpool lane and i’m by myself. i literally started to panic because i don’t want to pay $490 for something that was an honest mistake 😭 i did some research and some people were saying that it’s only $490 if you’re caught by the CHP. i just need some words of comfort, honestly. after this, HOV lanes are things i just need to be more aware of. i just wish the signs were more obvious instead of white.
edit: your comments are hilarious 😂 thanks for the humor
I’m pretty sure we’ve all seen the alter on 7th and Virginia st but I never walked past there only driven and I say a TikTok about it w a lil more info
I recently moved back to the Bay Area after over 10 years abroad and am definitely feeling a bit of culture shock. After landing at SFO, I took the BART ride to Millbrae and the new electric CalTrain down to San Jose—great start! But from there, things got challenging.
Once I arrived in San Jose, I was eager to run some errands and explore Downtown, thinking it would be the kind of area where you could get things done efficiently on foot or by public transit. Unfortunately, I found that things are really spread out, and public transportation options between them are limited. The light rail into Downtown is great, but I was surprised at how quiet it was there, especially around St. James Park, which I expected to be a more vibrant spot given its description online. St James Park, described as a "City park for kids' play and picnics" by Google Maps. Interesting, very interesting.
It feels strange to be in a city where residents pay such high taxes, yet many parts feel underutilized or disconnected. I’m giving it a few weeks to see if I can settle in and get used to the vibe, but I’d love to hear from locals—does it just take some time to get accustomed to San Jose’s layout and pace? I liked the vibe over at stations near Cupertino, but I only had a glance, perhaps I should look at housing a bit North?
“Got a ticket for street sweeping in front of my own home in East San Jose on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Yeah, my fault, I get it – but really? Is there any way to contest this? The frustrating part is that parking enforcement seems to pick and choose who gets ticketed. There’s this broken-down golden hunk of crap nine houses down, parked right over a crosswalk on bricks for two months, and no one’s even living in it. But if I don’t move my car by 7:30 AM, I get slapped with a fine? How is that fair? Make it make sense.”
I'm shopping around for a 1 bedroom apartment/condo with a detached/attached garage, around $3k. So far, I've found Terra House apartments and The Woods. Anyone have any suggestions? Around San Jose and adjacent areas.
I only got approximately 15 trick or treaters. I feel like Charlie Brown did when he got the rocks for Halloween. Halloween isn’t the same from the 70s 80s, there were so many kids in all neighborhoods. Are the trick or treaters dwindling down in your neighborhood every year ?
Looks like the building is still under construction. I’ve never lived alone before but from what I’ve seen online, this place really fits what I’m looking for. Any advice on the area or if it’s ever a good idea to pre-lease? Any rough estimate on water and electric for 843 sqft 1 br/1 ba in the area?
Hey I want to go to a pumpkin patch tonight. Is there any near downtown San Jose? Not trying to travel too far. Thank you.
So last year Grub Burger Bar in Lawrence closed. Since then I’ve been looking for a great burger near west San Jose, with no luck. Any tips?
Besides dog parks (my dog doesn’t play well with others).
I can’t seem to find a nice secluded area to just let my doggo run free without anyone around?
Any suggestions would be great!

Long story short, there have been two threads today that suggested (or at least led people to believe) that Emma Prusch is closing. It's not. I don't work for the city, but here's what I've been able to learn:
What apparently did happen is that a nonprofit group that operates in the park was told that they would no longer be able to operate the kitchen garden. I'm sure this was not welcome news to the group, but the city says that they have been operating there for a decade without a proper agreement in place. Perhaps the nonprofit will disagree. Apparently there was an attempt to recover the relationship via a 3rd party facilitator, but that was unsuccessful.
Anyway, there's absolutely no plan to close Emma Prusch. Yes, there is a very disappointed nonprofit who is not going to manage the kitchen garden. Perhaps they'll work it out, perhaps not. Regardless, no change to the rest of the park's operations.
i’m dogsitting for my best friend and their husband (who i live with) while one tends to a family emergency and the other works late hrs in a hospital.
does anyone know of anywhere fun i can go with their doggy for halloween? like any places doing events that allow dogs and such? it’s my fav holiday and i just don’t want to be stuck at home handing out candy lol also we’ve been trying to socialize him more so i want to enjoy the night with the lil guy outdoors and among other ppl/pets :) if, not i’ll probably just walk him around the neighborhood to go trick r treating but any better suggestions would be much appreciated! thank you in advance!
Past 2 days been packed af on Caribbean Drive. Curious what event, maybe guessing a Google Halloween but idk
Hi, I have no idea what to do so I’m asking for advice/guidance hopefully I can get some help.
I had a c section 5 weeks ago and my mom has been my caregiver during my recovery! Like wow a c section is tough!! I didn’t know what to expect but it wasn’t close to enough to how recovery actually is. Anyways, I looked online EDD CA and it looked like my mom could be getting paid for taking care of me?? I asked my OB provider to sign the paperwork PFL caregiver but she said my c section is not a serious condition therefore she didn’t sign it. Has anyone been in my position? My mom has lost wages for helping me and I feel guilty she’s not getting anything at all. I had researched before my delivery and it seemed that she could be getting paid so I accepted her help, but now I feel bad that she’s not getting anything.
Hi! Looking for restaurant ideas in San Jose / Santa Clara with a private dining room that will accommodate 8-9 people?
