I had planned a couple of skates this weekend but it really was just too dreich yesterday to face getting mud-splattered legs and sliding on wet, rotting leaves.
Glad I’ve gone out today - 5 miles in disused railway tracks with overall a gentle downhill slope.
Treat myself to a coffee before getting a bus back home.
Hi... I've had the same pair of V2 Aero 125's since they came out 20 yrs ago. I've gone thru a couple dozen tires and tubes over the years. I weigh 180 -- I recall that's about the weight limit. I have a shock fork pump for airing. So... My tires feel rock-hard and FINE to the "pinch test" after a couple weeks but when I screw on the pump it says like 15psi. So I pump to 95, which I think I'm supposed to. The tires then feel the SAME. Every now and then I mess around and end up wanting to repump a tire that I just pumped to 95... And the gauge reads 15psi again! This makes me suspicious! I think Well maybe the pump just needs to "catch up" to itself somehow, but it again takes 60 strokes to get back to 95... Hmmm, I'm going out on them right now so we will see if they feel faster than they did a week ago when I used them w/o pumping since they felt "rock hard." They did feel slow then. Or was I just weak? We will see! Update: they didn't seem to be superfast tonight compared to when I hadn't inflated them for weeks. SOOOO... What's the deal with these mini-tubes and PSI and time? Thanks for feedback...
I am looking for some polyurethane replacement wheels, 100mm diameter and 24 or 25mm width. This size is standard for most brands of skate roller skis. However, the replacement wheels available in the US seem to be mostly rubber, not PU.
I live in a place where roads are usually wet this time of year—almost every day starting in October. Traction with rubber wheels is awful in the wet. Just really, really bad. I can only really do a half push when skating, and pushing full power just skids out every time. Bad for training and for safety. I thought it was old wheels but it was unchanged when I put a new set of 100x24 #2 rubber wheels on. A few of my training buddies are using polyurethane wheels and they seem to be vastly grippier in the wet.
Marwe wheels are made of PU and their 100x25 wheels should be a direct fit for other brands that use the size, you just don't add the special spacers shown here. However, they are $40 each (Finn Sisu has them for that price, although out of stock in the regular speed; and €35+ from Europe). So that is $160 plus shipping for a set of wheels. Ridiculous. The materials to make these wheels probably cost a few dollars each. They are not particularly high tech.
I've been digging around. I suspect the niche market of roller skiing is a classic case where prices can skew high due to very limited competition. It appears to me that 24mm width polyurethane wheels with 608 bearings are standard for inline skate wheels, and are also used for scooters. These are applications with similar forces and safety needs as rollerskiing. Although I probably wouldn't trust scooter wheels from Amazon, I think buying quality inline skate wheels of appropriate size and hardness would be totally reasonable. You'd need to buy these bearing spacers to make it work with the standard 6 mm axle on roller skis, or punch them out from your current pair.
I'm curious if anyone has tried inline skate wheels in place of "official" roller ski wheels, as there is much more availability and options with better prices. The other nice thing is the durometer is typically published, as mentioned here.
After last winter (and the one before that), hoping for some more snowfall this winter in the Boston area.
Snow forecast seems to be a coin flip. Could be more than normal. Could be less than normal.
Hoping to not just do short laps around the Weston ski track for three months.
About to go Roller Skiing for the first time. The weather is perfect for it! I'll let you all know how I do, wish me luck.
Hey all, I'm new to Rollerskiing and would love to hear any tips that you might have for someone who has no experience, I have good balance if that helps.
I purchased a dryland classic ski called "catski" from the site www.catskier.com about 6 years ago. It is not a roller ski- it operates on a ski-type base with heavy resistance bands connected to the binding.
I am looking for replacement parts and the company does not appear to be active.
Does anyone know of a source for parts?
Hi!
I’m conducting a short market survey to gain insight into how Rollerskiers / Nordic skiers handle the storage of their skis, to understand if there would be interest in a new, simple solution for storing them. I would be really grateful if you could take your time to answer the survey, it's really short - takes no more than a minute. Thank you in advance!

(I’m an engineering student and live in a dorm room. I found both skis and roller skis (especially skate skis, which can’t even stand upright on their own) to be really cumbersome to have at home – so I came up with a solution using special hooks/hangers that made everything very convenient and organized in the hallway. therefore I thought I’d check if there might be interest from others in the same thing!)
Hi! I’m looking to buy some roller skis to kick-start my Birkie training but not sure what to look for when buying roller skis, poles and boots. My budget is between $150-$200. Any advice would be much appreciated!
Has anyone tried the IDT rollerskis that are now coming into the US? Interested in how their elite 715mm length feels compared to the standard length of 620mm.
It has been six months since our last Southeast PA roller ski meetup. This time we'll meet at Towpath Park just off Route 422 in East Coventry. All are welcome! (so far there are two of us).
hi - i just came across a video of roller skiing and i think it's a pretty cool sports! can you recommend websites, YT channels for beginners and reliable brands? difference between roller skiing and roller skating and the gear I need? info out there is overwhelming and expensive. thanks.
After a summer of illness and injury (nasty wipeout in June broke a skate and wounded my body) it was lovely to be back on four wheels this morning.
Fitness was not all it could have been but I managed about 12 km (6 out, 6 back) in about an hour.
Powerslide Gravedigger 200s on nice tarmac with a gentle uphill slope on the out.
Music was Arab Strap - “I’m totally fine with it 👍 and don’t give a f*** anymore 👍”.
Skating’s a joy :)
Hope others have made it out?
Would you consider becoming a mod? It's pretty easy and redundancy is a good thing.
Does anybody know a seller for these, if they exist at all...
And links to a how to video? Thanks...
EDIT: these things - see my comment below
Picked these up a few years back on a whim (located in Canada). I don’t roller ski, but they looked interesting and I thought I could bring them back to life. After learning they were roller skis, I determined they were pretty old and I’d likely be unable to find replacement wheels or parts. Just looking for an ID and maybe some history? Are they worth anything? Does someone want these?
I can’t for the life of me remove the baskets/ferrules from my new Rossignol FT-600 poles (bought from Amazon, which I now realize may not be the best source for rollerski equipment - other suggestions welcomt). I’ve tried heating with a heat gun, softening in boiling water, pulling, twisting… no luck. I’m afraid to break something if I put a wrench to it with more pressure… any advice appreciated.
Howdy all! I have a pair of v2 skate with hard medium wheels and a pair of the pneumatic tires. Does anyone else find the pneumatic tires roll a lot faster? Just curious thanks!
I'd love to pick up a couple of compression bib shorts for roller skiing but I cannot find anything that does not have a chamois for bicycling built into it. Does anyone here have any brands or product recommendations that I could look into? I'm based in the US. Thanks!
I severed my pole shaft an inch above the tip. Because the shaft is narrow at the end and becomes wider, a replacement tip will not fit on the shaft.
Is it possible to file the shaft to decrease its radius to allow the replacement tip to fit?
Any other tricks? If a fix requires significant time or makes the pole more vulnerable to break again, I'll just discard the pole.
Warning: Pay attention to where you plant your poles roller skiing
Luckily was only about being 2 miles from being done
