Hi,
I'm planning to go on a 2 or 3 week long roadtrip in the US between December and January. I'm an exchange student from the UK, and would be starting from Austin. Since I don't have a car, I would be renting one (I'm 22). I'm just wondering whether this is a good idea, especially because I would be most likely going on my own, and not sure if it's worth the extra money that I would be spending this way, compared to if someone was coming with me. Is it also a good idea from a safety perspective? This is my first time here in the US, and obviously I don't know anything here. Any other tips and suggestions are welcome also. Thanks.
What road conditions are likely on highway 58 from Klamath Falls to Eugene before Christmas? Thinking of doing that route rather than Hwy 5. Any recommended sites along the way?
I will be moving from Dallas to Miami with my girlfriends Tahoe and my F150. We will need to stop somewhere overnight so she and the dogs can rest. I will have my sofa and chair in the bed of the truck with anything else that may fit. Does anyone have any ideas on where to stop for the night and no one steals the things out of the bed of the truck?
I'm moving coast to coast (CA to FL). Title says it all. My large SUV will be holding valuable electronics (computers, displays, bike). The biggest concern are break-ins at night while we are asleep.
Money is not a concern so any lodging is fine. The trouble I'm having is finding hotels with secure parking.
Any advice?
e: folks saying take the stuff into the hotel with you. This is good advice but the stuff I have cannot easily be hauled into the hotel at night. 55" TV. 70 pound computer. These are the things I care about the most.
Has anyone lost stuff like this overnight crossing the country?
I’m planning to drive from NYC to Salt Lake City in late December. Basically planning to take I-80 West the whole way. What should I be aware/cautious about? Driving a FWD RAV4 with all-season tires.

My partner and I are planning on leaving a few days before Xmas and doing 11 days roadtrip to Big Bend and back from SF. Is this plan achievable on the below stops and does anyone have recs for what to visit on the way back? We are going to hit the highlights at the NPs.
We will be taking my Outback and camping in a tent, will sleep in the car if it is necessary and will get lodging for 1 or 2 nights.
Day 1 - Leave SF and Drive to LA and stay w/ friend 6hr drive
Day 2- LA to Sagurao NP 8.5hr drive
Day 3 - Saguro NP to White Sands NP 5hr drive
Day 4 - White Sands NP to Guadalupe NP 3.5hr drive
Day 5 - Guadalupe NP to Big Bend NP 4.5hr drive
Day 6-8 - Big Bend NP
Day 9 - Head home 9hr driving
Day 10 - Get to LA 9hr driving and stay with friend
Day 11 - Get to SF 6hr driving
Does anyone know if you can put one of those small transponder stickers for tolls on the sunroof instead of the windshield?
This is our general route as of right now, but my two buddies and I have never gone further than Missouri. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas on places to visit, hike, or camp at, any restaurants to eat at, etc.? And especially what to bring with us?
Our goal is to camp most of the way, with a few nights at motels/hotels to wash our clothes. Food is a big concern but I figured we'd live off of cliff bars, weenies and whatever we find on the way. I'd appreciate literally any advice you can offer, as this is my first road trip out west and I'm pretty unsure about what to expect beyond the weather being unpredictable. For more context, we're all between 19-20.
i’m deciding between moving to denver and going on a road trip around the US/living out of my subaru forester. advice? i am 25, went to college, spent a couple years waitressing and now am ready for the next thing i have a decent amount saved up and no debt. im not exactly sure what i want to do career wise (maybe grad school at some point). i love the outdoors and am a spiritual person. i’ve never car camped before but i’ve done a lot of backpacking and like living close to the land/minimally. i worry that living out of my car will be stressful— all of my valuables in my car, constantly worrying about where to stay and having to drive to shower and get groceries constantly and most of all, i worry about loneliness. i can get really lonely. on the other hand, it really excites me. getting to see the u.s., do a lot of awesome hiking, live simply, learn and grow a lot. denver on the other hand— i’ve never spent time there and most all my friends/family live on the east coast. it’s outdoorsy, i could find spiritual community. i real desire community. idk what to do!!!!
Hi guys, need suggestions for planning a trip during New Year with my husband n daughter to a place which is not very cold. Only restrictions are that I cannot travel outside the country because of my visa issues. Thanks!
Planning to leave Thursday 12/5 and arrive sometime next week, around wednesday/thursday
I (28M) have saved up $70k outside of my long-term investments for the purpose of quitting my job and seeing the country. I have over 100k in long-term investments and retirement accounts, so please don't lecture me about that. I have a college degree and several certifications (tech industry), so having a new job lined up when I return should be fairly simple.
Departure would be early March (from Maryland), reaching Anchorage, AK in early/mid-August, then working back on the northerly route, home by Thanksgiving 2025. (Tentative Daily schedule w/ POI)
Pre-trip costs. I already have a camp stove and tent.
Obviously this is in the beginning stages of planning, so any criticism or ideas are welcome.
So next week I’ll be moving across the country (again!). I’ll be heading to San Diego first for about 10 days from Portland, I’m on a bit of a timeline so I probably won’t be able to see any sights otherwise I’d just take the PCH from Florence to Ft Bragg to see the redwoods and then head inland. Since I’m most likely not doing that should I just stop in Sacramento for the night or are there any hidden gems in the valley worth spending the night in that I’m otherwise unaware of?
Hello! we're thinking of doing a roadtrip from toronto to montana, specifically to visit yellowstone national park. Any tips? We're thinking of doing one direction through Canada since I've never driven across Canada and thought that might be fun, so would love to hear anyones opinions, especially of good places to stay overnight!
I’m planning on driving from NY to Denver— hitting a few places in CO (Estes— RMNP, Boulder) & up to Big Sky starting the day after Christmas. Being from the NE I’m familiar with snow and have good snow tires — although I’m wondering if I should go with really good all-terrains (I own a Subaru) and will buy chains— but other than that, what else should I bring in terms of preparedness? I know north east snow is much different so I just want to make sure I have everything I’ll need.
My girlfriend and I both 20F, are planning an April roadtrip all sparked by getting tickets to a concert at Red Rocks. We did a small scale Colorado Springs/Denver/Golden trip earlier this year and had an amazing time spending about 5 days in each location. This time around we figured go big or go home but i’m starting to think it might be unmanageable.
From where we live we expect 2 days of travel to get to Denver. From there we would like to go to, Albuquerque (probably seems random but we’re big BB fans), Grand Canyon, Zion/Bryce Canyon, Salt Lake City, Grand Teton, Yellowstone. Over a 2 1/2- 3 week trip we only expect 2-3 days at each place and about 4 days full of driving (not including the drive to and from home).
Do you think this route will make for a more exhausting trip than an enjoyable one? I really am starting to think it’s not realistic. Would it be best to split our destinations into 2 separate trips? Or is there anything on our list that is worth skipping to get more time at the others? Any advice helps!
Hello, looking for suggestions for an August/September honeymoon trip. We will probably do a mix of hotels and camping. I’ve been to Baniff/Jasper before, but did not have enough time to take it all in. As we have about two weeks, I’m looking for other suggestions in the Canadian Rockies or even into the coastal areas of BC.
Hi! Recently divorced (38F) here. My manufacturing plant is shut down Dec 24th - Jan 1st off, and I'm thinking of doing a solo road trip, since plane tickets are so expensive. Not spending it with family because this year, we're dispersed all over the US.
Suggestions on where to go and what route to take, starting from Metro Detroit?
Preferably drive to somewhere warm and see some cool sights on the way there, then take a different route back. I'm open to anything, but interests include video games, poker, volleyball, and anything science-related or will stimulate the mind.
I do wanna be back by the 31st because I wanna start/ring in my new year by reading a good book.
TIA
Hello guys,
I am planning to do a road trip 15th-22nd of december, to see as many christmas markets as possible.
The trip will start from Brasov, Romania, and we have to be back in Romania on 22nd of december.
At first, I was thinking: Budapest-Bratislava-Wien-Prague/Munchen/Nurnberg-Strasbourg-Colmar.
Meanwhile, i realized that there is to enough time to see them all.
I would like you to recommend me, those of you who have visited the cities above, which of them would be worth staying for more than one night and what suggestions you have regarding the trip.
Hey! I plan on driving solo over 5 days between Omaha and Denver next year in May.
The reason for this random route is flight scheduling. I was recommended the following by ChatGPT.
I would love to hear input about where to stop, sleep and eat. What I'm looking for is some traditional and local experiences (doesn't matter if they sound super weird or boring!) I am excited about the prospect of visiting the capital of each of the three states. Don't want to skip on Wyoming.
