OKC - Florida Family Road Trip Down & Back

We're dong a family road trip to a condo in Siesta Key. Couple options for routes but trying to pick based off of what's interesting to see on the way. Family of four with kids 1 and 4 years old. Looking for a unique place to stay on the way down and the way back. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Any French petrolheads here? Trying to understand the emissions zones

Bon soir!

Hope I'm okay asking this here, but we are currently trying to understand where we can and can't go with our car this summer. It's a petrol Volvo 240 from 1991 and has no Euro classification.

We hope to drive down to Boudeaux and from there into Spain, before coming back across and driving along the Cote d'Azur, and I'd just like to understand which cities and communes we would have to stay away from - I've seen multiple maps but am getting conflicting information. If anyone would be able to advise or help, that would be very much appreciated! Merci!

Driving with temporary license plate (paper) sticked to the rear window, will I get pulled over by police?

Just bought a new car up here in Canada (Quebec) and I got only a nic,e piece of paper with my license plate number on it (legit thing, issued by the DMV because they have a 15 days delay in sending the actual license plate to put on the car)

I need to head to the US (driving from Quebec to Connecticut through Vermont, New Hamsphire, Massachussets) and I wonder this is common situation in the States, or will I get automatically pulled over by police when they see i don't have any license plate (and they fail to see the paper in the rear window because the window is a little tainted)

Don't want to have to explain to multiple situation to possibly multiple police officers...

Fairmont in Canada

Hey,

I’m driving across Canada next year from west coast to east coast. What are some affordable Fairmont that are worth staying at ?

We stayed at the Empress with gold lounge two months ago and it was a blast. Something in that price range is about the max I’d spend for it. $2400 for about 4 nights .

Best way to break up an LA to NY drive?

I’m moving, so not a fun road trip, but I wasn’t sure where else to ask

What is the best realistic way to break up a drive like this? (Trying to save money)

I was considering LA to Denver(15 hrs), then Denver to Chicago (15) , and then NY (10)

but I wasn’t sure if that would be too crazy/unrealistic?
I do drive for work, so I suppose I’m normally driving about 8hrs a day

Also, is it better to plan out the hotel/airbnb in advance or once it feels like it’s been enough for one day?

any advice or tips are appreciated!

European road trip - Bordeaux, Camino de Santiago + Italy and Swiss Alps advice

Hi all,

I am currently planning our summer road trip - the goal is to drive from the Netherlands down towards Bordeaux and then the Camino del Norte, then head back towards Italy and up through the Swiss alps back towards the Netherlands. This will all be done in my trusty 1991 Volvo 240 Benzine/Petrol (relevant to the question at hand).

As of now the route more or less looks like that; sticking to as much off the freeways as possible - we are looking for any recommendations on scenic villages or towns and places to stay along the way! The itinerary does seem packed but we are open to stretching it out and taking our time; important to note though that we are both gearheads and driving is a big part of this journey.

With regards to the car - I've done as much research as possible RE the emissions regulations for all the countries enroute - Germany my car has an exemption for; France I'm pretty much aware I can't go into any of the big cities beyond the rings + the inner city limits of the smaller cities; Spain, most cities on the list apart from Pamplona have not implemented their low emissions zones yet; However, I've still failed to find any good info on the cities in Italy and what the exact boundaries per city are. Does anyone have any information on this for the cities I have listed?

Would be glad to get any advice/suggestions! Thank you!

I should be going on a road trip from LA to Atlanta Georgia in a few months. I want to know if there are any cool places that are free or cheap I should see in between the 30 hour drive.

NY --> LA with a dog: looking for advice

Hi everyone. I'm driving cross country from NYC to LA with my dog in late June. I initially wanted to hit the national parks up on the Northern Route, but just read that dogs are generally not welcome at national parks. I'd love to do hiking with him elsewhere though - does anyone have tips or resources?

Suggestions: San Francisco to Hood River, OR via Route 1

Hi!

I'm trying to figure out if we have enough time to make the most of this drive.

I think it's a 13 hour drive and I'm keen to stop to see the Redwoods. Do you think this is doable? Does this community have recommendations on where to stay, and what is worth stopping for on this route? We'd add an extra day if we could but don't currently have time!

My vague itinerary looks like this-

Day 1 0700 leave SF

Drive for 7-8 hours, potentially stay near Grants Pass & make at least 2 stops during the day.

Day 2 1600 latest arrival in Hood River

Drive the remaining 5-6 hours, stop in Eugene perhaps

Where do you live? What's the most ideal place to live for road trips?

This sub has humbled me and made me appreciate how fortunate I am to live in Southern California from a road trip perspective. There are so many amazing locations west of the Rockies that are withing a day or two's travel. Unfortunately, the East Coast is definitely less accessible, but I think it's safe to say there's more people heading west from the east than vice versa.

Obviously, there is more besides National Parks, geological features, and beaches, but I feel like that covers around 70% of what people road trip for.

From this perspective (and this perspective alone), somewhere like Las Vegas or Salt Lake City might be the most ideal spot. What do you all think?

One-week road trip (solo) in deep south - any ideas?

I am planning a road trip in deep south and will appreciate some ideas/advice on the itinerary. Here are some initial thoughts:

  • I’ve been to NOLA, Nashville, Atlanta and Great Smoky Mountains before but don’t mind exploring further this time
  • The road trip will likely be in late November, around Thanksgiving
  • Rowan Oak in Oxford, MS is a must-see for me
  • I’m interested in Civil Rights sites but don’t want to do it exclusively
  • I like hot springs but my standard is kind of high as I live in Japan (sorry Hot Springs NP I’m debating whether you are worth a visit)
  • Safety is a concern as I’m traveling solo (Asian Male if that matters)
  • I will be flying to the south from New York
  • Definitely looking for some great southern food recommendations as well

Distance to Restaurants on Road Signs

Hi. New to this sub and want some thoughts on others experiences with this.Took a highway road trip recently and needed to stop; saw a highway sign showing a chain restaurant was 1.9 miles away. Took the exit, noted which direction to go and drive a good 6 miles. Then saw another sign stating the restaurant was, again, 1.9 miles away. At that stage it was actually nearly 8 miles away, not 1.9. Gave up and found something else. Is it common for the signs to be off that much? And who oversees this? Not a huge deal but annoying. Thanks

Ohio to Colorado with Dog

Looking for some guidance/suggestions. This is our first long roadtrip and could use pointers. It’s basically a straight shot down i70.

We’re going to be near blue lake for our elopement and taking our dog with us which complicates things a bit. We’ll obviously have to make some extra pit stops and allow him to have his daily zoomie session.

I’m hoping to find suggestions for interesting things, food, dog parks or dog friendly places along the way. Particularly places that aren’t too far off i70. We’re willing to sacrifice some time if there’s a must-see or must-do suggestion.

Right now I’m targeting St. Louis as the “mid-way” point and stopping there for the night. So anything in that area thats dog friendly would be awesome. Thats about 6-ish hours from our starting point and I’m planning to have basically the entire evening to do whatever. So there’s definitely time to veer off and adventure a bit. Curious what people think about stopping in St. Louis.

Also would love advice on places to stay in Colorado thats dog friendly is hugely welcomed! On the fence with typical hotels that allow dogs versus something like a cabin. Its been a bit overwhelming looking at places via google. If anyone has taken their dog to Colorado on a vacation I’d love to know where you stayed! We’ll be out there for 2 weeks exploring.

Thanks for any input in advance!!
