[reminder announcement] /r/Recordings has a Discord server!

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR PROSPECTIVE NEW MEMBERS: Given that Discord and Twitch servers have been infested by bots—reddit thread here from /r/Twitch; Washington Post article here [paywall]—we've elevated the user-verification level in our Discord server. You now have to be a server member for at least five minutes before you can participate. We apologize that such restrictions are necessary, and we appreciate your patience.

Additional Preface: As this subreddit has increasingly become a home to graphic audio, it's worth mentioning that our Discord server is not oriented around sexually explicit conversations. (Better to mention this up front than have newcomers stop by with contrary expectations.)

This is a reminder of /r/Recordings' continuing audio and text chat on Discord, which we typically call the "livestream" to distinguish it from the static content here on reddit. On October 17, 2015, we officially switched from our previous service to Discord, where we've been ever since.

This reminder is posted weekly, and please feel free to show up anytime during the day or week. The server, however, is most active on Saturday evenings/Sunday mornings (relative to US time zones), and we quasi-officially "respawn" at 11PM US Eastern Time. The following link provides this week's corresponding times for other time zones around the world:

Note that for many world time zones, this will correspond to a local time beginning on Sunday rather than Saturday.

Here's a summary adapted from our default welcome announcement to /r/Recordings and here's a link to a (now mostly-obsolete) comment there with more livestream-specific details. To reiterate: all RaidCall-specific details at those links are now totally obsolete.

  • /r/Recordings Live Streams on Discord

The live streams are a place for the community to get together throughout the week. Whether it is bantering, having discussions, or playing games with each other, everyone is welcome to join! There is a text-chat window, so you don't have to speak, and you'll be just as welcome. Again, Saturday nights (for US/Canadian/South American time zones) are without question the most active nights for the livestream, but our livestream room is open continuously.

Rules: We tend to be casual, so our rules are largely what you'd expect. No doxxing, no spamming, avoid being disagreeable even when disagreeing, etc. Basically, follow Wheaton's Law.

The /r/Recordings chatroom uses the Discord client. Discord is a free program and service designed for group communication, both audio and text. You can access our stream using either the Discord client itself or a browser, provided you're using one of Discord's supported browsers.

To use Discord, first set up an account with Discord. Whether you join us via a browser or the Discord client, we recommend you use your reddit username as your Discord username. That'll make it easier for people in the stream to recognize you from reddit, and vice versa. In the links below (as well as the comment threads) you should find all the information you'll need to participate.

Note to Discord newbies: Discord, unlike other services, separates its voice and text channels. That is, you're typically in both a voice channel and a text chat channel, and these choices are independent. If you want to hear what's going on and speak up yourself, be sure to select the appropriate voice channel. (Typically, this will be "Lounge".) To engage in the text chat, select the relevant text channel, typically #main-chatroom. There are other text channels, the most relevant of which are #announcements (self-explanatory), #quotes (akin to /r/nocontext for our server), #selfies (optional, and otherwise self-explanatory), and #🙃 (which so far has been a bit like /r/memes or /r/dankmemes). More recently, we opened #current-events-resources, which provides information for how to help in the aftermath of humanitarian crises (e.g., Ukraine, mass shootings, natural disasters, and others).

These are our current voice channels:

  • lounge ♡: This is a place where everyone can speak freely, and it's effectively the "default" voice channel for our interactions.

  • music ♡: In this voice channel, users can direct the Groovy bot to play music within Discord, using Spotify and other sources. An index of Groovy's commands is here.

  • game room ♡ This is all about games. Whether it's a board game, card game, or video game, this is where you'll be if you and a group of friends would like to start up a game. Everyone is welcome to be included, but if you are joining mid-game, please remember to be polite. You're more than welcome to join, but expect to wait for a new round if relevant.

  • recording studio ♡: This voice channel is designed for people who wish to record while in Discord—spoken word, music, etc.—especially in collaborative settings.

  • movie night ♡: This voice channel is used during our (now-rare) movie nights, exclusively for those who will be watching the movie at the time. Please: no movie spoilers out of courtesy for those who have not seen the selected movie before movie night.

  • away room ♡: Whether you need to take care of a few errands or just want a minute to yourself, this room will accommodate your needs with it's quiet surroundings. Microphones are disabled in this room (except for livestream mods'). By default, Discord is currently configured to move you to this voice channel after 30 minutes of inactivity.

Important: To enable push-to-talk in Discord, go to Settings > Voice, and switch "Voice Activity" to "Push to Talk".

Discord has many features, including chat text-formatting, emojis in text chat (a list of which can be found here), auto-embedding of images (which can be disabled), and a number of others.

If you have any additional questions about our livestream, especially Discord-specific questions, then please check this announcement thread on our transition from RaidCall to Discord, Discord's official help page, or the Discord subreddit /r/discordapp. If you can't find an answer there, then feel free to contact the livestream admins or mods. We'll try to answer you as quickly as possible. Further, we'll try to include answers to your questions in updated FAQ pages.

Hope to see you on Discord, and thanks to everyone for all the support of this subreddit! (And please do what you can to keep yourselves and each other safe, everyone!)

PLEASE HELP ME OUT

My microphone stop working randomly Hi. I've been having a mental breakdown for the past few days. My mic just randomly stops working and picks up no sound and then after a few minutes it starts working again and then stops again. The microphone is not completely turned off because if I set the gain to the max and start screaming it picks up the sound of my voice minimally but it is very quiet and has noise. I had a focusrite solo 2nd gen and today I specifically bought a 3rd gen because I thought it was an interface problem, but the problem is still there and it's even worse. Even before I bought a new interface I also bought a new xlr cable but it didn't help. My equipment connected to the interface is a rode nt1 microphone and beyerdynamics dt 990 pro headphones. The problem is rather not in the processor because I have a ryzen 5500 in my pc. I remember that in 2020 there was the same problem for a moment, but then for the next few years everything worked fine.

things i tried:

-buying a new interface

-buy a new xlr cable

-turning the computer on and off

-uninstalling drivers and reinstalling

-checking the computer for viruses (from paid antiviruses and default ones for windows)

-switching usb ports

  • turning off and on 48V button

nothing helps, it just stops and starts working again without doing anything, randomly, and it doesn't depend on whether I'm recording or not. maybe it's a problem with the microphone, but I doubt it because rode is known for good quality and I bought this microphone in 2019. Please help, thanks from Jamaica

(NSFW) I was wondering

…if anyone could help me find a specific audio on ||soundgasm.net (flaru.com)||? I cannot remember the name of the audio for the life of me, but based on my shitty memory as much as I can, I’m looking for a [M4F] [escort] audio with [consent checks]. It was the listener going to this cozy cabin/b&b (or at least I think it was), and she or someone she knew booked her to this place with a male escort. I think he had an accent but I can’t seem to remember.

NO IT IS NOT “Your First Time with a Male Escort” or “Yours for an Hour”.
