This has bothered me for years because I've never been able to figure out exactly what happened. I (29, F) had broken up with a boyfriend (30, M) of almost 2 years because he was controlling and would get unpredictably angry a lot. He was a nurse who would spend 3 to 4 hours a day at the gym and said he was never taking steroids, but with the frequently angry outbursts I was never sure, just knew I didn't want to be the target for it anymore.

He wanted to stay friends and one day he called me asking if I could come over to help him carry his old couch to the dumpster behind his building because he had gotten a new couch delivered, and he would make me dinner as a thank you. It was a cheap, very light couch so I agreed, and as he was making me dinner he offered me a drink. I said "just one because I need to drive home after", and he brought out a vodka cranberry. All of this btw is very normal for him; he was always admittedly good at cooking and hosting so I didn't think anything of it.

About 20 minutes after having that drink, I feel more drunk then I ever have in my life. The room is spinning super fast and I can't walk straight. I accidentally knock over a glass, and I immediately start picking up the pieces because he has a frenchie and I didn't want the dog to get hurt. I look down at my hands and I have cuts from the glass all over; apparently I had cut myself a few times picking the glass up but couldn't feel anything. Then, every inch of my body is suddenly in sharp pain and I have never felt this bad before in my life. I know something is very wrong but I don't know what.

I tell my ex, who's a nurse and lives a 30 second walk from his hospital, that something is very wrong and I need help. I will never forget him staring straight ahead and coldly saying " I don't feel sorry for drunks." Mind you, I've never been a drinker. I'll have a drink socially once or twice a month if I'm out on a date or with friends, but I really don't drink and he knows this. Also, he made me the drink. I knew I was on my own at that point and the pain got so bad I had to crawl myself slowly to the bathroom where I attempted to vomit for the next 12 hours.

I never blacked out, and I remember every detail from that night, so I never really understood what happened. Any insight from anyone who may see things in this that I don't would be very appreciated!

A friend of mine works for Qatar Airways and she told me yesterday that she's been struggling all week because Qatar Airways canceled all their flights to Kathmandu and her customers are either stuck there or can't go. QA won't issue any statement or reason to their staff and has provided no recourse for customers and so my friend has been dealing with a silent employer while trying to help her clients on the other hand. She said QA is the only airline that stopped functioning in Kathmandu, the others are all going there.

So usually I'm the one standing here telling them they're too boring to get hacked and at best, they got phished, but I just got my tablet today that I ordered on sale, it was on Amazon but through a third party seller. Supposedly new, looked new, easily could have been not-new though. It's an international version, it didn't have any countries in North America or Western Europe on the list of options when setting up (saw Asian and middle eastern countries, saw Australia, chose Australia since it was the only one I knew to be English speaking on the list?) so that's the background on the tablet. I literally just got it today, just set it up tonight. Just logged in to one Google account, not the one I use on my phone, installed one app (twitch) and set up to watch a video on it.

And then about two hours later, I got a phone call. I get spam calls all the time, that's no big deal. But this was a real person. Actually multiple people because at one point he handed the phone to another guy laughing who then also spoke.

Basically this person called me on my phone, which I don't have my number online, I'm not American so my privacy is not impossible to maintain, even if I Google my phone number myself, it doesn't show anything. He then announces himself in a very typical scammer way, saying he's with security and asking if he's reached the person with the email (insert my email, NOT my main, one I don't use often, the one I used on this tablet) with an account on coinbase.

Obviously I'm not dumb, I knew not to confirm anything to anyone who calls me. So I asked if he could tell me my account balance, he said he's not able to see those details. This is right after he said someone logged in at a specific time in a specific city. I said do if you can't see personal private details why can you see who logged in and where they logged in? He said "I can't" and then scrambled to try to find a way to explain how he can't see private information but can see who logs on and where they are logging in from. So I say "do you have any information that can prove you are who you say you are" and he starts the "oh yeah I can send you a code" crap, so I cut him off and say "I'm not opening a fucking email, I'm asking you to say out loud right now one thing that proves that YOU know who you are trying to reach" and he says "ma'am. Ma'am. Ma'am I don't fucking appreciate the swearing" so obviously now I'm laughing, I'm like ok so you DEFINITELY don't work at a call centre, great, and he says some slurs, hands the phone to his friend who starts pretending to be a dominos call centre, I hang up.

But as I'm sitting here I'm wondering about this tablet. I checked my twitch account info. When logged in, I can see my own phone number in my details. It's not visible to the public, but IF this device came to me with malware already in it, maybe they'd have the password from me typing it in? Maybe they'd be able to see my screen?

I restarted in safe mode and it all looks like normal stuff, I don't see any files that aren't in the Android section other than one song which is just their ringtone, which I deleted. Is there anything else I should be doing, before I comfort myself that it must be fine, that could make absolutely sure there's nothing in it?

I believe I had the normal "first startup" experience of choosing the language, the region, etc, but there's obviously some lingering doubts. Any settings I could check, any places I could get the use history, stuff like that, would be very comforting. I just find it strange that my most anonymized (as in, separated from my real identity) email address is the one someone was able to call the correct phone number for. This is not the email I give out to places that might sell phone numbers. If it was my daily email address I wouldn't have been surprised at all! This one is weird tho. The timing even more so.

I am from a small town, as is my best friend. She recently died and apparently it was ruled as a suicide. Notably, she never once said anything to me about being suicidal or depressed and we were making plans for her to meet my newborn just before she died. Her boyfriend was abusive I know and he did not attend the funeral. He also moved to a different state shortly after she died, which happened in July. According to her sister, there were two gunshot wounds to my best friend’s head and no bullet casings were present at the scene. Also according to her, there was blood in the passenger seat. The day she died she also did have a massive argument with her boyfriend. My question is: is there a way that I can see the evidence to see why it was ruled a suicide and see if what her sister said was accurate? I’m not sure if they keep that kind of stuff sealed or if it is open to the public and I’m not sure how to go about this but if she did not commit suicide then she deserves justice.

A driver swiped my parents car while it was parked and did some significant damage, but drove off. We have videos of the incident from the car camera, but cannot make out the license plate at all. This is a long shot but I’ve wondered this for a long time. Growing up (Cleveland in the 90s) I had a heavy oak bedroom set that my grandma gifted me. Included in this set was a long dresser with a big mirror attached. On the back of the mirror was a screw and bracket that for whatever reason would pick up what sounded like radio signals. Like almost but not quite distinguishable AM talk radio signals, I could even hear commercial jingles but just barely. It wasn’t constantly, just sometimes and I finally traced it back to that screw/anchor/bracket. Is it possible for something like that to pick up radio signals? I promise I’m of sound mind, I just have yet to find anything online about something like this happening.

So this has been happening daily and wonder if I should be concerned. I find a single, empty can of White Claw in my front yard every morning for over a couple weeks. I haven’t seen any activity in the area that would suggest a crime, but I feel like a target considering the street is long and on a hill where I am 1/2 way up. They could be depositing the can anywhere else.

so as the time im writing this, an hour ago my older sister was working on her job (stay at home typing) and suddenly received a phone number from mexico. she answered thinking nothing of it and on the other line and it sounded like a women in her late twenties. my sister says, “hello?” the women was mumbling something in spanish (my sister thinks anyway, she couldn’t interpret what it actually was, we both dont speak spanish) and after a few seconds the women said in clear english “please come get me.” my sister was frozen for a bit and then asked “who is this?” afterwards the women hung up. i was in the next room drawing and she came in my room freaking out telling me what happened. i was like “wait fr? what the fuck?” im a bit more less panicked than my sister naturally so i just called the number back and the women answered again. it sounded like she was hiding or really scared. all she said was “hello?” like trying to hold back tears. i replied saying “hello? who is this? whats going on?” theres some silence and she hung up again. i called her back two more times but it goes straight to voicemail.

im fully aware that scam calls happen a lot, especially in mexico pretending they have your family or someone you know then either ask for your information or money. i do live in texas and next to the border but the way the women sounded kinda odd with me. she didnt ask for our information, didnt pretend to know who we were, and didnt ask for money. it wasnt the typical story of people getting calls and they act like they have someone you know. as soon as we asked “who is this?” or something, she hangs up.

the reason im sharing this here specifically is because i dont wanna be apart of that statistic where something suspicious happens and dont really report it knowing that person possibly needed help. i even wanted to call the police but my parents said this sort of thing happens. and i get that 100%, but they said people from mexico will want information or money and neither happened.

In February of 2006, a man named Todd Simmons was murdered in my hometown, in the middle of the day, ONE BLOCK from the police department. His murder has not been solved and, in my opinion, was swept under the rug by local law enforcement

I was like 17 when this happened. I remember hearing a lot of rumors, but I cannot find any information about this online except for two things:

Are any of y’all able to find additional info on this?? I’m not even sure how Todd was murdered. Rumors were that he was shot and then his townhouse set on fire—but that’s all rumors. I can’t find an autopsy report, or any kind of report of an investigation, I can’t find anything at all.

I have been receiving voicemails of the same distinct sound for months now, I receive this call multiple times a week.

The most frequent call is what sounds like a washing machine ? They all originate from random numbers within the state I live or unknown numbers. And this is the most frequent sound I hear.

The last voicemail sounds like someone whispering " I see you?"

It's very alarming and creepy, I want to change my number but it's such a hassle. I was curious if anyone had ideas as to what these could be ? I wouldn't imagine I have many people who would want to mess with me to this extent. If anyone wants to listen to the recordings I can send them

I’ve noticed in the past few months that my walk in wardrobe started to smell like pee. I’ve got a cat but I’ve checked absolutely everything and nothing seems to smell nor is there any dried up puddles etc and she never peed outside the litter box before so I think it’s not the issue. Also, when the door is open the smell goes away but as soon as the door stays closed it starts to smell again. The floor is marble so there isn’t any kind of carpet that could smell. I pretty much smelled every bag and coat to try finding the reason for the smell but nothing. Can anyone help pinpoint what it could be?

A few times now (maybe 3 or 4) at completely random times I will hear a faint but audible digital sounding noise that reminds me a lot of this sound in the video but I cannot figure out what it is for the life of me and I am quite an anxious and paranoid person and want to make sure it isn't harmful. I happen to notice it once every few days or so but the times are so random (just happened just before 5 am) and the last time I remember was some time around 7 pm or so. Its so faint that I originally thought it was in my head but it is coming from somewhere near my room. The only thing that was similar to this was in the same house some kind of alarm that sounded like it was in the floor above me would go off every morning at a specific time but I never found it and eventually it stopped happening (it sounded like a watch alarm to me) and I am not sure if this is related. The sound doesn't bother me but just rather puzzles and scares me when it happens. Any ideas?

I have a I phone 11 and I’ve only had it for a little over a year, it hadn’t been causing me problems until recently. I started getting a lot of spam calls and I started picking them up for fun, usually it would just be silence or heavy breathing before they hung up. I never really thought much of it until my phone started working weird, the text would just stop Wörking suddenly and then the buttons would press themselves deleting my text but never typing new ones. I still thought nothing but then I swear I started too see the text you can’t change changing. Then it just would randomly beep at me, periodicitly throughout the day. And one day I was on Snapchat just looking at myself in the camera and in the corner an icon like the screen recoding thing but a different outline. But when I scrolled up to see what I hit there was nothing, I scrolled back down and the icon was gone. I checked my canera roll and nothing. After all that HAPPNED I was in the hospital for my mental health but an unrelated problem. I didn’t have my Phone for 4 days and when I got back it was worse. The keyboard stoped working obviously. Everytime I click it it’ll hit two or the buttion doesnt even work. The letter m often just does not work. It still randomly beeps at me. I have a large amount of storage taken up but my apps definitely don’t add to that. And now I’m just generally paranoid about my phone. But if I don’t have it I don’t feel safe.

The problems with this All of this started after I got out of the psych ward. I was in there for 2 ish weeks and had changed antipsychotics 3 times while in. I also smoke weed multiple times a day while on antipsychotics, I have hallucinated before.

I also want to mention that my Alexa was hacked in the past as well, it would wake me up in the middle of the night chanting that I needed too drink tea or coffee. I would often get up unplug it because it wouldn’t be quiet any other way. I would find it throughout my room hidden away because I’m scared of it. Aparently I showed my family this and they saw it happen so I’m pretty sure this actually happened.

Why would my spouse manage to with drawl the same amount of cash every week at the same location followed two days later by a Zelle payment of $80. So he withdrawal $100 cash back. I don't know why this bothers me so much but maybe a year ago I asked my mum if we had any home videos from when we were children since I know my dad had an old film camera (VHS?). She said she had them in storage but could find them. However, when we mentioned this to my dad, he got really weird about us watching them and said he would want to edit them first. He also was very insistent that he was the one to send them off to be 'processed' (not sure if this is a genuine thing). I know what you're thinking but my parents really aren't the romantic type and are very conservative so it definitely wouldn't have been anything inappropriate they filmed of themselves - also my mum was fine with us seeing them so it was nothing she had knowledge of.

So naturally a bit later I asked my dad what was on them and he gave a vague answer about there being a few things he didn't want us to see. He mentioned two things that bothered me.

I brought these things up to my mum and she said "oh" when I mentioned incident 1 as if she remembered this and knew something about it? After that she seemed to agree with my dad handling the tapes first, though wouldn't say anything else. So it definitely had to be something out of the ordinary shouting or smacking, unless he was embarrassed there was 'evidence'. When I mentioned the videos another time, asking if we could get them developed/processed, my dad said almost smugly that they'd been sat in storage for ages so don't be surprised if the damp had 'destroyed them'.

I'm writing this now because the last time I visited them, the entire storage room had been cleared out. I assume the tapes are long gone. I just wanted to see what we were like a children. Now it keeps playing on my mind. Am I reading too much into this? Does anyone know if sending tapes to be 'processed' and 'damp destroying them' holds up?

TLDR: my dad was acting weird about me seeing our home videos, mentioning some concerning stories of getting angry with my sister and filming her crying as a kid, now they're all gone.

Hit and Run happened in Milpitas, CA today but tesla footage only got a very blurry image of the license plate. Filed police report already but police said nearby cameras also were too blurry to capture anything. Trying my luck here to see if anyone can help with figuring it out what my next steps should be. So I bought an Amazon smart air quality thingy and on day one it said 1ppm carbon monoxide on my Alexa app. Daily it would climb and went up to 6ppm and stayed. Worried, I bought another one. Same thing. Now 2 weeks later it's bouncing back and fourth between 5 and 6ppm. I bought a TOPTES handheld co monitor on Amazon and it reads 0ppm. I put it near all the vents in my unit even and the hallway.

I live on the 6th floor of a high rise in Downtown Edmonton, AB. There is no gas appliances. No smokers.

What is really confusing me is how could a CO leak cause such a steady low reading. Am I wrong in thinking it would be either climbing or jumping around? I'm aware 6ppm is pretty low but sometimes I dont leave the apartment for a few days since I work from home. 9ppm is safe but only for 8 hrs...

Just wondering if anyone had any idea what it could be.

Before I update, i’d like to provide some clarification. For one, my agency does not deal with this sort of thing. We are a community based, voluntary program. Second, for anyone commenting about HIPAA, I don’t know what to tell you. Either you’ve never worked in social services or you have way too high of an expectation for my office. I am so pissed off right now with the outcome of this all. Obviously my agency is shitty. That’s why i’m job hunting. If I felt supported by them at all, I wouldn’t have to post on reddit for advice. I was told today that since we do not have releases of information signed for CYS or for the local police department, we cannot call to make inquiries. We can file a report, but my boss does not think that’s necessary. I disagree, but I need this job and cannot jump ship until I have something else lined up.

As for the update:

The family fired us today. We told them that we did not feel comfortable meeting at the home today, until we got further consultation from our boss. They messaged back something snarky. My boss called them, they fired us. I asked my boss if we can call CYS to see if there is an actual report, or at the very least, call the police department to see if they have an open case. Boss tells us they won’t even give us that information if we’re not working with the family currently. I’m livid. I told my boss that I would at least like to know if i’m in any danger, but I guess that doesn’t matter.

Obviously, if there really is a crazy stalker dude, he’s not gonna give a fuck about us if we’re not working with the family anymore. So fuck it. Just makes me feel like a POS for losing the family when that was probably this persons intent. They’re too anxious and traumatized to accept our help. They’re falling right into this guys trap.

For anyone who commented that I am not cut out for this job, honestly fuck you. I’ve spent far too long putting others before myself. Only recently have I begun to set boundaries and do things for myself. I’ll be damned if I put my life on the line for an agency that only cares about money. We are money to them. We bill hours and make them money. That’s all that matters to them. Fuck that. I do this job to help others, not to deal with stuff that is way above my pay grade and should instead be handled by a police department.

By the way, the family says they don’t want to go back to the police, because “they don’t do shit anyway.”

They’re mentally ill and super traumatized. No point in wasting my breath trying to reason with them if they’re not willing to hear it.

Missing girl in Budapest. Hungarian police and hospitals aren’t much help. Embassy is “working on it”. Are there any ways to contact local activist groups or something before we fly out to find her? It’s almost 2 days.

Very (long story) short context:

I work in social services. My partner and I opened a client family about a month and a half ago, and soon learned that they were being stalked. My agency ordered them cameras, police had already been called, and client dad got a gun. We continue to meet with them, because, nothing crazy would ever happen to us, right?

Well…wrong???

Today we arrived to the home and were accused of calling child protective services on this family. Confused, we tried to ask for more information, but there was yelling, crying, and a lot of verbal aggression. Client mom tells us that she got a call from a “detective” stating that they were “following up on a child line report that the in home counselors reported”

Obviously, that’s a lie. We are not “in home counselors” and that is not how childline works. Mandated reporters file reports electronically. Childline then send the report to children and youth. Children and youth would then involve state police, IF needed. Client family says they got no calls from children and youth. No follow up calls from the police department either.

Am I crazy or was this NOT a detective that mom was speaking to?

We are so confused, and honestly scared for our lives. Their stalker has been in jail for heinous crimes. He was only released from jail this year. He then immediately made contact with them.

I asked her if she knew for a fact that this person who called was a detective and she swear he was. She doesn’t remember his name.

My boss, thank god, says we should not go see this family anymore, until we know what’s happening. Someone is clearly aware that my partner and I are working with this family. They know who we are and that we go to their home, AND they’re claiming that we filed reports against this family. I am distraught. I can’t tell if i’m being overly dramatic. I really can’t.

My roommate says not to be scared. My teammate is freaking out, and even her husband thinks something is off.
