Why does everyone drift from the inside lane to the outside lane without even looking. I've had so many close calls and actually two accidents because people can't figure out how to stay in their own lanes in multiple lane turns.
Hi, I’m moving to Providence for work! I need to be close to Bradley Hospital (able to use public transport to get there) and also to the T stop; as I have to travel to Boston often. Any recommendations for areas where I can start looking for houses?
Hey gang,
I’ve never posted anything to Reddit before, but I swear I just saw a large drone flying essentially from lowes, over route 10 towards the armory. I’ve been interested in the news, because wtf? But this sincerely wasn’t a case of seeing something I wanted to see. Id prefer NOT to see something like that around. At first I thought it was a plane, but I realized it was very, very low. As I got closer it became obvious what it was, and then it literally stopped in place and hovered. I couldn’t hear it, and I couldn’t get a picture because I was moving along in traffic. I’m not trying to be on about anything in particular I guess, but did anyone else see it?
I feel 110% certain about what I saw. I’m really not one to jump to conclusions and if I had a spec of doubt I wouldn’t post anything about it. Also, weeks ago I wouldn’t really have cared, but the news about New Jersey has been on my mind and, frankly, I didn’t even completely believe that, everything about that kind of frustrated me. I almost don’t want to add to the annoying mystery, but now I feel strange for seeing one. If this is what they’re seeing all over the sky I’d be wondering what was going on too.
A spot within walking distance for pedestrian bridge would be great, especially if it has private room. Any ideas?
Y noodle bar is closed on Tuesday and I fear I may perish if I don't get soup dumplings tonight.
Hi all, my wife and I are traveling for the holidays and our option for pet care has fallen through last minute. Does anyone know of any local pet sitters who we might have luck with? Our dog is very shy, but very low maintenance/low energy. We aren't looking for someone to stay in our place, just walk her twice a day and feed her. If you are looking to make some extra holiday cash - or if you know of any leads, please let me know! Thanks.
Edit: we connected with someone and are planning to move forward with them pending a successful meet and greet this weekend. If anything changes I will return here and reach out to anyone else who expressed interest. Thank you to everyone who replied back with helpful suggestions and happy holidays to all!
Does anyone have a good vet in the Providence/Cranston/Warwick area that they’ve found to be good with dog reactive dogs?
I don't know anything about this place but nothing has stuck in this location. I am hoping this makes it! It would be great to have a good Mexican restaurant in Wanskuck.
Hey everybody,
Providence has caught my eye as a potential place I can put down some roots. I've lived in a few places out west, but currently living in Dallas. I've enjoyed the friends I've made here as well as having a lot to do. However, it's not going to be my forever home especially given the climate (both environmental and social). I've been researching some potential places to go and Providence came up as a potential match. Once I hit a couple financial goals and get a transfer approved, I plan to move as soon as I can.
What I'm looking for is:
I'm curious what generally everyone thinks of the area. I was born in New England, but my parents were not very fond of it there and have lived in another state since then. They told me that there is a little bit of snobbery. Honestly though, I find that one's experience where they live is a mix of attitude and environment. I lived in SoCal where celebrity culture was toxic, but I met some kind people. Utah was beautiful but not my scene for its religion affecting overall culture. In Dallas, there's a mixture of corporatism as well as the things that Texas unfortunately is becoming known for, but it's been a positive experience. I managed to have friends and good experiences in those places. I'm pretty sure I can find happiness anywhere, but this time I want to find my place where I can put down roots, have a good circle of friends, and if I'm really lucky, meet a potential partner.
And earlier stated, I'm hoping to make this move as soon as I can, but it will probably take a year to a year and 6 months because I want to save up and get a transfer request from work before making the big move. I do plan to visit my top two places once I think I found a good fit and want to see how it is in person. I'm curious what you think.
Was awesome to watch! They ripped the house apart where it stood.
It seems like there are a couple of posts a month from new residents asking how to make friends, and a lot of the answers suggest checking out meetup. As someone who has moved to a few new cities, I think this is generally good advice. Just wondering if anyone wants to share their experiences/takes on any specific groups to help us new (especially me as an old) to town navigate the landscape. Thanks!
So at this point it seems like everyone I meet is dissatisfied with Smiley: people more on the left loathe him for everything other than his pro-development (so pro-housing) policies. Older east siders hate him for shunning historic districts and “neighborhood character,”moderate east side families feel like he’s done nothing for the schools, and he seems to ignore the south side, western neighborhoods and north end. The guy seemingly has achieved nothing as mayor other than removing atvs from the road, and he has hired inexperienced people who have done mediocre jobs in their roles working for him.
Even though Providence mayors have in the past always won re-election, he seems very vulnerable. Please throw out names for people who would be successful running against him! It would be great to have a real challenge to his incumbency and encourage alternatives (ideally only one so they don’t split the vote).
I have fine hair, not thinning hair, but narrow hair shaft hair that is easily tangled/knotted, if you know you know. Does anyone have recommendations for hairdressers that are great working with this hair type in and around Providence?
Most of my walks around town involve walking alongside roads with 2 lanes of traffic going each way and it's just insane watching people blow past you going double the speed limit. Even though I'm on the sidewalk it just does not feel safe especially taking into account how terrible or distracted most drivers are these days. Realistically what can we do about it? Surely the space can be better used
Hi everyone. I’m 24F and brand new to the area. I actually live with my parents in Attleboro, but I like that Providence is close by and it seems less intimidating than Boston.
I’m coming from Buffalo, NY but was born and raised in Houston, TX. One of my hobbies is rollerskating. It took me a while to find good spots in those previous cities to practice. Ideally a large, flat parking lot with little to no traffic. I’m not confident enough to skate in busy areas!
Any ideas? Or does anyone else have this hobby and wanna be friends? I also have a dog I’d love to take out and explore with. I’m trying to not be miserable about moving back in with my parents and having to leave NY.
Hi Providenizens,
Anyone have suggestions for ordering tamales for Christmas? I had thought of ordering from Maiz, but didn't want to drive all the way to South Kingstown on the 23rd, and their Providence location isn't up and running yet.
hi,, im looking for people into bone collecting n other macabre hobbies like that! im pretty new to the hobby but its always been something thats peaked my interest.
I am looking to get a hat embroidered for my boyfriend for christmas. I reached out to a couple of places but they don't do one offs. I have the hat and just want to embroider a small design on the front. Does anyone know anywhere that does this type of thing? I know the library has machines available but not sure I would be confident enough in my ability. Thanks in advance!

Good Morning everyone,
I am making some smoked Jalapeño cheddar sausages for a party. However, the recipe calls for Jalapeno powder. Does anyone know of any stores around PVD and Cranston that stock it? I have already tried MB, Not Just Spices, and Stock.
Thanks for your help,

Did anyone hear what sounded like banging and/or explosions in the Elmhurst area?
