Places to watch hockey

Ahoj!

I'll be in Prague for the week and I'm looking at what locations there are to watch the hockey on a big screen.

I've had a Google and found the fan zone outside the O2, but was wondering if any of you locals are aware of any others, for example outside at a beer garden if the weather's nice, or if bars are the place to go? I'm not looking to be rowdy or anything (I understand if others are!) I'd just like to enjoy a match and the atmosphere.

I'll be based in Prague 6 within walking distance of Lenta/Hradčanská but I'm willing to travel.

Thanks

Why everyone is holding flowers?

I am in Prague and a lot of people are with bouquet of flowers or with flower pins on them. Is there a reason for that, like a cause or something, or is a regular thing?

Fresh Produce

What’s your favorite grocery for fresh fruits and vegetables? Feel like it’s better than it used to be, but still kind of slim pickings…

Overcharged and restaurant refuses to help

Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone has been through a similar situation and what they did

About 2 weeks ago, I placed an order at Dominos Pizza in Nuselská through their app that was meant to be collected and paid at the restaurant, the bill was 308 CZK, and I paid it using my card, the pizza was okay nothing impressive. However, when I reached home I realized that the restaurant had charged me 3008 CZK. The restaurant was already closed at that time, so I decided to call them the next morning. I believe it’s a simple human mistake and they would just simply reverse the transaction, but when I called them they said that the manager is not there but they will forward the complaint to him and took down my details, they didn’t call me back however and simply asked me to write an email. I wrote the email, and informed my bank about this they said they would look into it. Fast forward 2 weeks nothing had been done, when I sent dominos a follow up email they said they are looking into it but I should have just contacted my credit card company. I did however already contact my bank and nothing has worked out so far.

I do have an email from dominos on the same day and time amounting to 308 CZK from the same day for collection of my pizza.

Should I continue waiting as these kind of things take longer, take further action or just accept it?

It may not be a lot of money but it goes a long way as a student

UPDATE: after failed attempts at contacting them, I turned to social media and posted about this issue, after they received a plethora of bad reviews from people I follow suddenly, they reached out to me and have supposedly refunded the amount- still waiting till it is received in my bank.

What is really worth visiting in Prague?

Hii🥰. I'm going to Prague in August and from my research, I found so many museums and tourist attractions. I won't be able to see them all, that is for sure, so I was wondering if you could make a top 5. I'd appreciate it

Going on trip to Austria and Prague at the end of the month. Not sure about the currency to card

I'll be traveling to Austria and Prague with my family for 11 days. We will be staying in Prague for 2 days. We were concerned about taking the currency and how much to carry, since euros don't work in Prague. Does international credit card work there? We are a lot nervous about traveling since we don't travel abroad often. Also how convienent are the public transports?

Second hand shop tips

Hey guys, do you have any tips on second hand shops where I could get about 30 white shirts for good prices? I know a place on Ruzyne and then I heard there’s something on Ladvi. Any other tips?

Do you need IČO for extra income below 20.000Kč?

I've been trying to find the answer to the following situation:

If someone is already a full-time employee at a company in Czech Republic, and wanting to generate a little of extra income do you need to register for an IČO? Usually companies can still process your tax returns with the condition you didn't make extra income over 20.000Kč so was wondering if the above is the case.

Sigh..another solo travelling thread

Hey. Sorry. I guess you already are annoyed by the amount of threads about solo travelling. But it's my (M30) first time and im excited but also a bit nervous since it is my first solo travel. I already wrote down many places i want to go, but maybe some of you can give me more or better recommendations? I will arrive today at 8.30pm and stay for about 4 days.

Some places on my list:

  • obvious ones like castle, bridge, Lennon wall, Petrin, Clock, national Museum, etc

Bars/Restaurants:

  • Anonymous office
  • the alchemist Bar
  • Bar & Books
  • Kellyxir
  • Eska
  • Bebop Bar
  • Popo's

Are the Bars good or tourist traps? I also would like to a karaoke bar (after i drunk a bit). Could you recommend something different? Can i joint someone? Any input is helpful :)

Looking for fun things to do in Prague DURING THE NIGHT - happy about any help!

Hi there! I am working for a German public broadcaster and we are currently looking for great activities that one can do in Prague, especially at night!

For example, is there a hot air balloon ride directly over Prague at sunrise? Or do you know of a particularly great hike that you can start at sunrise? Is there a great night walk through Prague Castle or other castles that also takes place after midnight? A wholesale market that opens its doors at 2 a.m. or, for example, a traditional bakery that starts making delicious kolác at 3 a.m. - which we could help make? Do you know any cool, young artists or musicians who are particularly creative at night and with whom we could meet and talk about the Prague art scene?

Those are just a couple of thoughts. Maybe you have other ideas or the collective mind here knows of any cool places!

Happy about any help and insider tips!

Best regards
Carina

Basket-ball club to join

Hi !

I (29M) would like to start basket-ball in a club, in Prague. I am a beginner, and I don't speak Czech. I know some expats are organizing pick-up games on a regular basis, but I would really like to have real trainings, with technical and physical exercises. Do you know if it exists in Prague ? I couldn't find so far :)

Never seen a place more packed with rude and impolite people than Prague in my life.

Rant incoming: have been around a bit, being from Italy I realize some people are warmer and some are colder, and that’s ok.

But I also believe there’s a pretty defined line that separates cold people from full-blown assholes, and this city seems to be packed with the latter.

The service is awful, you are treated like shit everywhere, the servers very often make fun of you for not speaking Czech. They also seem to be constantly annoyed, they don’t care to explain the dishes and just want you to eat and get out. One server got to the point of snapping his fingers in front of my face to see if I was listening (like I can’t listen while also looking at the menu trying to understand what you are saying in broken English).

Also, all server say it’s custom to tip. I don’t think it’s true but I don’t give a shit regardless, you are not gonna get tipped acting like that lol.

Regular folks always seem to be annoyed, they are rude if you ask them anything, treat you with condescension and seem to actively dislike foreigners.

And finally, also concerts are shit. I were at the Rammstein gig on Sunday and the audience was the worst. Even in the pit, nobody dancing, nobody singing, nobody even tapping their foot. Everybody listening still with their arms crossed and visibly annoyed at us singing and headbanging.

The city is beautiful and surely, everybody is an individual, but man… also we met many other foreigners (Germans, Dutch, danish) and they all laughed “you didn’t know? They are like this and don’t get better when you get to know em”

Such a pity, also considering how stunning the city is.

EDIT: it may have come off wrong and in that case it’s my fault. What I mean is not that every single person is rude, but I’m a bit shocked at how common it is.

Wanting to make friends

Hello everyone,

I’m looking to make friends as I have been here for 7 years but failed to make any circle of friends because I have problems with initiating and maintaining conversations. I’m going to therapy so I can see that many problems I’m having is connected to not having my own community and that’s why I really hope it’s changed.

I don’t have much hobbies other than watching stuffs and play video games (though I’m not really great at it either - like a casual gamer - so I play League but very noob, TFT - to plat, diablo 4 - recently).

I watch football and I am a Barcelona fan.

I like watching movies and some anime as well.

I don’t like drinking and clubbing even though I can drink on special occasions but overall it’s not my thing. I like being in cozy places and play board games together or just chatting.

I speak English and I can only understand somewhat Czech but I’m looking to improve it as well as I’m determined to live here.

So if you are interested in making friends we can text and meet up maybe 😅

Arriving early morning at Prague (5am)

Hi All,

I am 29M, Solo Traveller, in Prague for 6 days.

Note: I recently had a stomach surgery, so mobility/diet is restricted.

  1. I am reaching Prague at 5 am in the morning, I was wondering if I can visit few touristic places like Charles Bridge in early hours. Is there any places, I can go to witness sunrise apart from Charles Bridge?

  2. I hope there won't be any security concerns but if there is any, please suggest.

  3. I will be in Prague for 6 days, any suggestions on unlimited travel travel pass for 72H or others, if any? Do's and don't's?

4.Is there any other places I can visit apart from Charles Bridge.

  1. Any suggestions on places to eat Vegetarian/vegan breakfasts(low fat) or food ? Some options recommended earlier :

bramborak-potato pancake Kulajda svestkove knedliky plum dumplings Fried cheese Smažený Sýr.

  1. Would you recommend any currency exchange, I have Wise card but cash may help at some places.

  2. I wanted to try shooting, first timer, would you recommend any budget friendly place to try it? (*I had stomach surgery last month, not sure If I can use advanced guns).

  3. Clothing, I am mostly carrying summer clothes along with sweatshirt, do you think, I may need a jacket?

  4. Any suggestions on river cruise or boating?

Does anyone in Prague braid black hair?

As the title says, I'm looking to get braids in Prague during my trip! I've wanted to get box braids because it would be easier to maintain my hair, but I'm leaving on May 30th and the wait times are long where I live.

Does anyone know anyone reputable who has experience with black hair and can braid it?

Edit: The closer to Cesky Krumlov, the better!

Urgent need for replacement in Apartment Lease, from June To August

Hello,

I am a student currently staying in Prague, but unfortunately I will need to be leaving my apartment three months earlier than expected, and I need to find someone to replace me in my rent rather urgently.

It's a flatshare made for students and young interns. If you are in desperate need of accommodation for the summer months, this might be able to help you out. It's a large bedroom in a former tailor-shop; there's six flatmates (who are all chill internationals) and two bathrooms. Utilities are included. Total rent is 18,900 CZK a month.

DM me for inquiries, info, and photos.

Where can I buy a puzzle?

Where can I buy puzzle with at least 2000 pieces?

I need it for a gift, it would be better if it will be Prague or Czechia themed, but if I can't find something, it will be okay if it has some nice artstyle.

Dog Microchip Registration

Hi!

I moved here from the USA with a dog. He is microchiped but the company in the US that his chip was purchased from, does not allow me to change his registered address to the Czech Republic nor can I change my phone number to my Czech number.

Does anyone have knowledge on how to navigate getting a dogs chip registered so that if he is lost and found then they will be able to contact us?

Also, we are looking for vet recommendations in the Praha 6 area.

Thank you in advance!

Applying for permanent residency as a family member of EU citizen

My temporary residency expires this autumn, and I'm in the process of applying for permanent residency based on the same relationship: long term partner (CZ citizen), living together for 6 years. Just curious if anyone has recently applied with their non married partner and if so, what did you submit to prove your relationship's durability? Last time we submitted a relationship description, photos, proof of booked travel, notarized statements from friends that we were in a relationship, etc. Just curious if anything has changed in the past 5 years.

Life at Prosek/Střížkov

Hi I’m currently living in Prague 10, but I’d like to move to bigger apartment. I’ve found one that is located between Střížkov and Prosek.

I’d like to know your experiences living in those areas. What are some things to do (sport/outdoor/restaurant/cafe/shopping) and to see? Is it safe? Fun? Anything that you can share?

Personally I love to go to the Jiriho z Podebrad for market, breakfast. Or walk around Riegrovy sady, namesti miru, grebovka as they are easily accessible from my current address via metro. But all I found was Prosecká vyhlídka and Park Přatelství

Thanks for your recommendation 🙂
