I’m interested in pursuing a Bachelor of Podiatry in Australia and am looking for insights on the career prospects, job opportunities, and competition for international graduates, especially with a path toward podiatric surgery. Could you also share information on the return on investment (ROI) given the typical costs—around AUD 120,000 over four years—and whether the average starting salaries and career progression justify this investment?
Additionally, how does podiatry compare to other allied health fields, such as Physiotherapy, Radiography, Sonography, and Speech Pathology, in terms of job market demand, salary growth, and career progression opportunities? It would be helpful to understand how podiatry stands among these fields in terms of employability and advancement potential for international students.
Anybody hearing back from kent yet? I’m nervous!!
The new CEO is making bold moves in what I think are the right directions.
Although the ASPS is officially the APMA's surgical affiliate, she is talking to the ACFAS about how to collaborate. At this point in time, the APMA is still the only organization that can help Podiatry legislatively.
Do you think (hope) the ACFAS should encourage its members to join the APMA? As it stands right now, the ASPS, as an affiliate of the APMA is required to have its members be APMA members, where as the ACFAS does not.
Hello I am in undergrad and I am so lost about the process. Especially with low stats
Podiatrists are a very promising career (new patient visits are close in price to dentists or FM)
But podiatrists may only make $100,000 (if they work in a city clinic.
Maybe $150,000 if they work in rural area.
And in a hospital it might be $200,000 - $300,000.
What is the situation in law school?
There are close to 200 law schools, and only T14 of them have guaranteed good jobs.
And if you go to an average law school, you need to be in the 10-20% of your class to have a chance of getting an interview with a good law firm.
Even so, there are a lot of people who say:
If you could have gone to med school, but you chose to go to law school, you could have gone to the T14 law school and gotten 210k after graduation.
I was just wondering if it was similar at the Podiatry?
For example if you have a 3.9 GPA, 520 MCAT, and thousands of hours of clinical experience.
Is it safe to say that you are guaranteed to be in the 5% in podiatry school and get a hospital job after graduation?
What does it mean if a program didn’t decline, or offer a month? It just still says “requested” for all the months I requested for that program.
I have 2 months I didn’t receive any offers for. Is that really bad? Does anyone know when the application will allow us to request new programs for those unfilled months?
I’m looking for some feedback on materials to make custom toe spacers. What has been your favorite to work with? Had good success with? I’ve used a two part silicone before but I’m not really happy with the finished surface. I don’t really want to buy something without knowing or have feedback and it be suboptimal.
I have many student athletes getting orthotics during their sport season and complaining of foot pain. They typically start wearing them 24/7 as soon as they get the orthotics. I believe they are usually advised to ease into orthotic wear in some sort of way but for some reason turn their ears & brains off while at the doctors office. What is good advice for how to ease into orthotic wear? Is there a typical wear schedule that’s recommended? I work with ages 14-19.
Hey all! Starting interviews soon for several DPM programs. Is there anyone here who has interviewed this cycle/any good or unique questions to prep for?
Also as I'm interviewing virtually, do you recommend shirt and tie/blazer/etc? I have no problem suiting up, however as it's virtual may present strange. Thanks all!!!! Also general advice appreciated for sure.
Pays more than the average reimbursement for a Charcot Recon. Two week global for the P&A and very little after care required. Weird, huh?
Any test banks or questions? Or documents people recommend? How difficult is this exam? I know its coming up this week.
Thinking of starting PRP program (self pay). Who performs the blood draw/what are my options for this?
I also have extensive ECs and shadowed a pod for >100 hours as well as a letter.
Hello all. I have a good friend who's currently a PGY-1 at a very toxic program and is considering trying to transfer. The CPME list of open positions only lists a few programs, despite there being many more throughout the country. I wanted to ask if anyone knows of any additional open PGY-1 positions. Thanks!
Hi, I am applying to podiatry school for fall 2025 and filling out my application and saw "Description/Key Responsibilities" for the experience section. Would someone be able to guide me with this section and what to put in it? are schools expecting an impact-based response or just straight up the stuff u did and that's all?
any help is greatly appreciated!! thank u so much :)
I’ve been accepted into my top 3 choices. Any advice on where to go and why? I would love to hear some outside opinions.
Hi everyone,
I'm from Australia and considering a career in podiatry. I'm planning to pursue a Bachelor of Podiatry/Podiatric Medicine in the next few years and would love to hear from those already working in the field.
I developed an interest in podiatry during a work experience at my local hospital, where I spent an afternoon with a relative who is a podiatrist. Initially, I thought I wouldn't enjoy it, but she inspired me by sharing her experiences, showing me some of her cases and clients, and explaining how she treats their conditions. I was able to observe some of these conditions firsthand, along with a few minor treatments and procedures. Afterward, she had me clean the floor and help sort equipment for restocking. This experience sparked my interest, especially since becoming a medical professional has been a goal of mine since childhood due to my passion for medicine and healthcare.
I have a few questions that I hope you can help with:
Any advice would be appreciated.
(As you can see, I used ChatGPT, because I didn't have a good idea on how to word this out, but this is generally what I wanted to know since I want to pursue this as a career in the future once I finish High School and a GAP Year Program.
Is barry a good school for studying podiatry? Out of state student (non-florida resident)
Can I get into Barry school of Podiatry medicine with 485 mcat and 3.2 gpa? A lot of shadowing and volunteer hours. Have hands on clinical experience
Didn't get into a podiatry school is this is a sign should I become a rn I'm already 26
Hello!
I was wondering if anyone here was accepted to multiple schools and paid multiple deposits? If so, how much was it? Did you get a refund when you ended up withdrawing from one of the programs? Was there any sort of timeline on when you needed to withdraw by?
So apparently, for their conference, ACFAS will not allow anyone who has been in practice for less than 5 years to lecture for them.
However, they've approved Fellowships directed by podiatrists who have been out less than 5 years.
So they are good enough to direct Fellowships, but not good enough to lecture for them. Interesting.
Can anyone confirm this?
I’m seeing this on the CASPR directory of residency programs on aacpm’s website. Some programs are labeled as “section 1”, others “section 2”, some say “undecided.”
Does anyone know what this is about? Tried searching online and couldn’t find anything.
Planning on doing the ABPM exam next month, what’s the recommended study material for the exam? Mcglamry? Or any other sources?
Anyone else who took to retake super scared about score release on Monday? How did you guys feel the exam went for you? I’m so scared 😭
Hi I would like to know how the employment market is in podiatry? Is it easy to get a job? I searched indeed and there were a lot but am still unsure. I don't want to do the degree and then just do some sales assistant job. Thank you
Current podiatry student
Can’t decide if it’s worth it to continue on this path if I know that I want to live in a specific area where jobs pay low (100-120k)
I will have just under 300k in loans when school is finished.
Any advice? Again I am NOT geographically open
How are new graduates making ends meet? Will demand for pods really go up in the future or is it just downhill?
I'm finding an alarming trend on social media where physicians are recommending certain products but aren't disclosing their relationship with the company that makes the product. Or are making it difficult to find out that they are affiliated. Especially if they are "paid consultants". I personally think this should be front and center and disclosed, in writing, every time. Some physicians even try to circumvent this by posting their recommendations on their practice site, without giving their names per se.
Some company are especially egregious with this, and their "consultants" are especially verbose about their support. Especially with surgical companies. If you use the product, and are a paid consultant you should really disclose this every time you recommend that product online.
Any thoughts on this? Am I being overly stingy about this?
I'm interested in learning more about the various subspecialties within podiatry, particularly those involving trauma or emergency room settings. As a third-year student, I'm still unclear about what it means to "take call." Could podiatrists who take ER call or work in trauma settings provide some insight?
