Are amberol cylinders poisonous?

Yesterday me and my brother were messing with each other and I handed him a piece of a broken four minute amberol cylinder. He knew what it was and Jokingly took a bite. He spit it out but accidentally swallowed a tiny piece. I told him that he will be fine. Today, he feels like crap and and has a fever dream. Could this be because of it? Please no hatred for this dumb dilemma and serious answers only.

I don't own this machine anymore, but the Pathé 'Actuelle' (circa 1924) with its use of a paper cone instead of a horn to amplify sound is a real oddball, and a gem. Here it is playing a snippet of Ben Pollack's 'Keep Your Undershirt On', recorded November 29, 1929 (Victor 22267).

What are the dimension of the shellac/vinyl records from the accoustic era? Those 78s older one.

A 33RPM common Vinyl in inch is probably:

Diameter: 12

inner hole: 0.286

radius of innermost groove: 2.35

radius of outermost groove: 5.75

record heigh/thicknesst: 0.06

I require those values for an acoustic era 78s records. Thank you :D!

Fake or real gramophone!

Hi all !

I'm currently searching a gramophone, and I don't want to have a fake one.

I've seen a lot of them are fake, and now I can mostly recognised when it's a fake one.

But I'm not sure about this one in the pictures, seen in a music shop. It seems legit and in great working condition.

What do you think, it may be a swiss/german made gramophone.

It's very expensive that's why I want to be sure.

Fairly scarce 1910 Columbia Grafonola 'Elite,' Columbia's first table-top model, playing an advertising record extolling the virtues of another innovation, the double-sided record. The 'Elite', priced at $50, had a unique grill that flipped down for full volume, with a slide in it for medium tones.

Unusual (probably custom, possibly Columbia-based) phonograph spotted on the Sacramento, CA Craigslist. I don't know anything more about it than what's in the ad, but it's...unusual and kind of oddly handsome. A search for "1917 Victrola" should turn it up, but it's certainly not a Victrola per se.

Is this record safe to play on an acoustic machine?

This is a re release of a duke ellington track pressed in 1943, which is considered to be past the safe point for records to be played on a phonograph. Ive heard that Brunswick records had better quality shellac during this time and could be played on an acoustic machine, but im not sure. What do you guys think?

Problem with Phonograph

Someone I know has a phonograph and the tone-arm is missing, not just the needle but the entire tone arm, is there any way I could buy a tone arm? Or would I have to Salvage one? It appears to be a Starr phonographic that helps

Edison Home Model A help?

Hey everyone, I just got a Model A Home in the mail, seems to work fine, however, only when the bedplate is up though. When I lower the bedplate the motor stops running for some reason. Not really sure what to check, there doesn’t seem to be anything blocking the gears or motor when it is shut.

Thanks ahead of time for any tips!

Any idea what kind of 78 record this is?

It has 4 holes and is only recorded for a quarter of the record.

A new belt did the trick!

So back when I was very uneducated about phonographs, I thought my Edison was broken because of the sound warble. Turns out all I needed was a new belt! 😅(the video goes from before I replaced the belt and after I replaced the belt)

Do the cabinets with the horn inside get faked?

It looks like that only the small players with horns on the outside get faked. Crapophones are usually fake 1900s, 1910s models with brass horns. But do the cabinets with the horn on the inside get faked at all?
