Hey all. So I’m looking for some opinions and advice. Prior to this March, I was on track to join the guard in my state- I went through meps, scored well on my picat/asvab, I had a consultation for mental health that month… and then I found out I was pregnant. Due to personal circumstances, my now husband and I decided to keep them as we were already planning on getting married and (in the future) starting a family. My husband is in the guard currently, though I’ve been thinking about joining the army since I was in high school. 4 weeks ago I had my twin boys, and I’m so happy being a mom. However, not being able to fulfill my prior plans has been weighing on me. I’ve spent my adult life in low end service jobs, unable to afford school in any capacity, was in toxic relationships before I met my husband. All around little direction. I had issues with alcohol and party drugs too. I am completely sober now though. If I go through with joining, my test scores are good until February of 2026… I know I’ll have to do MEPS again, but then I’ll be gone for a year essentially at boot camp and then for my mos (68W). The college benefits and chance to have a career are so enticing… if I didn’t have kids and my husband wasn’t tied here I probably would’ve gone active duty. But I’m so torn, because I don’t want to regret leaving my little ones… for that long. They’d be just over a year when I leave and then a year older when I come back. I could just wait until they’re older and take the test again… but that I feel would be even more painful for them. I’m not sure what I should do, was wondering if anybody here had some insight or has been in a situation like this :/
So he’s the deal: Veterans Day is coming up on Monday and I got into an argument with some friends on whether or not I can celebrate it. They are saying I can’t, but I’m pretty sure I am able to because I am still serving my country in some capacity, right? I’m currently in my MS1 class at a small local university. I think I’m going to go guard but idk yet, probably special forces or something.
I’m not a contracted cadet yet, but I’ve been to our first FTX this fall and I think I’ll stay with it. I didn’t really like sleeping outside but next time I’ll just bring my pajamas to stay warm.
I know I’m not guard yet, but I’m doing PT M-Th, with remedial on Friday so I’m basically active duty right? I don’t have a CAC yet, so what do I do when Applebees asks to see my military ID? I ordered personalized dog tags, so do I just show her those?
I’ll have whatever yall got that’s free for Veterans Day please, and no, I left my ID at home.
Almost 15 years in service and wanting to finish the final 5 in my home state (New Hampshire), now that the kids are getting older. Have thought about trying to make the switch to active national guard (O-4, pinning O-5 in about a year.) Is this even possible? How would I go about it? Is it worth it?
anyone who went through the rtli program can tell me their experience and what they are or did after coming back from ranger school.
Hey, I'm looking into the 31B Military Police MOS and want to know what they do. Can someone explain the different tasks and duties they handle? What kind of things do they do on a regular basis?
Also, what are your thoughts on this job? Is it a good fit for someone interested in law enforcement and tactical work? Are there any pros and cons I should be aware of?
I'll try to keep this short... so a “friend’s” ETS was supposed to be in September 2024 and they unfortunately got him to reenlist for 3 more years mostly because he really needed the monthly check. Come to find out his VA disability rating that he had been waiting to hear about for 2 years FINALLY went through AFTER he had already signed the reenlistment papers. Now that he has a monthly check from the VA he regrets reenlisting every single day. He does not care about being in the army anymore so he decided to smoke some weed... he failed the piss test and now he wants to know, if he keeps failing the piss test, will he get discharged? If he does get discharged, will he get an honorable or dishonorable or what are the possibilities? To add some more details the reason he really wants to get out is because his unit is deploying again soon and he has absolutely 0 desire to go. So at this point he’s just exploring all of his options...
Anyways thanks for reading and hopefully my friend’s question gets answered.
I am currently an Active Duty 88M approaching the time I need to begin speaking with the reenlistment/SFL-TAP people. I’m a Corporal. I’ve got a 115 GT and nothing below 120 on any other line score.
I’ve got this idea in my head that I’ll be able to reclass to a 15 series and go guard (I’m hoping for my home state of OK but I can move almost anywhere in the Midwest)
Is this even possible? Is it hard to get into a 15 series job in the guard? Or this is a better question for the career counselor? I’ve wanted to do this for a very long time but I was thinking about it and realized I’ve never even put a thought into if it’s even possible. Am I wasting my time with this idea?
I am trying to think of things to get my little brother for Christmas. He will be finishing Basic Training for the army in two weeks and will immediately fly to AIT after graduation. He will be back for some time around Christmas. I am just wondering what some items people really needed or enjoyed having while they were at AIT. Gift suggestions. Thank you!
Hello! I’ve been anxiously waiting for the Oregon OML for E5 and I’m hoping that somebody here has it. I’ll leave my email in the comments so you can send it accordingly. Thank you in advance, and have a great rest of your weekend.
Hi guys,
I have a year left in the Michigan army National Guard. I will have hit my eight years, I know it’s kind of bias to post here, but I am not sure what I should do. If I should stay in, go active or join a different branch?
I’ve pondered the idea of going to state traditional OCS, but I am just not sure. I received my bachelors degree, took the GTIC, I’ve looked into re-classing to other MOS’s?
Outside of the guard, I am an IT tech and I make $70k and I have a wife and two kids. Part of me thinks I shouldn’t throw it away, but we are renting and we want a house in the future, that’s why I thought active may be the way to go.
I have also looked into going full time in the national guard, but I don’t think there are many AGR jobs in Michigan.
To summarize, I am just unsure of what to do. I don’t regret joining the guard, but part of me just doesn’t see many opportunities anymore?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Currently work for the railroad. Very new to the career. I deff like the job so far. I’ve been with another railroad company as well. I’ve heard that you can enlist and keep your railroad job and also get paid at the same time from your railroad job. Since I’ve had an interest in the military I was considering of joining reserves/ national guard but was wondering how the pay and choosing your mos and everything works out. Can anyone give me any insight to this? And what’s it’s like being in the Guard and keeping your career. Thank you!
I'm interested in the Military Working Dog Handler (31K) role in the Army National Guard and curious about what a typical day looks like. What are the main duties and responsibilities, especially during peacetime? Do handlers mostly train with their dogs, or are there other tasks involved?
Also, I’m wondering about the relationship with the dog. Do handlers get to keep the dog with them at home, or are they usually kept on base? How long does a handler typically work with the same dog.
Head there soon. Any expectations or knowledge bombs appreciated. Thanks!
Hi everyone I’d like to thank you guys for stopping by and I know I’m going to get sooo much crap for this but I really don’t know what to do.
PLEASE HELP ME! So I had the chance to sleep in the van last night at drill. My platoon (well actually everyone) besides me and and the 3rd platoon leader were sleeping outside, but for some reason we weaseled our way out of it. My boy fell asleep in the front but I had the entire back row of the 8pax GSA van to myself. I was honestly feeling a little freaky and I remembered that I got this text from a random older Asian woman a couple of days ago that came up as “report junk text”. This was specifically of interest to me because as a white guy I’ve never had the opportunity to date or hookup with Asians. They just usually aren’t into me. She sent me a picture of her and asked if I remembered her…. I didn’t. But anyway I decided to hit her up last night and see where things would go.
To my surprise she replied almost instantly and we started building rapport… I told her that I’m in the guard and commission next year (I’m proud of myself — I came all this way from the trenches of white plains New York) (and for those that want to dox me, go ahead I’m not in New York anymore). She then asked for military uniform pics so I sent them. I told her that I was in a van because I was working on “mission planning” (it sounded way cooler last night). We ended up exchanging instagrams which I was kind of weary of but I let her follow me and I followed her. It was easier for her to send pics that way she said… and I also got to see her life a little. Eventually things took a turn and she was obviously getting aroused. She sent me some provocative pics. So I took a picture of my shaft (fully exposed in OCPs) and sent it to her. I was using my selfie camera so she could kind of see my name tape.
Immediately after this is when things changed. She immediately sent me a collage of pictures from my Instagram (with my face) and the d* pic I sent her, with the words “[my full name] is a disgusting pervert …” plastered onto it. I immediately blocked her on Instagram. She then texted me a screenshot of all of my followers (including two of the squad leaders that follow me, my ROTC unit’s page, and my commander (royally screwed)). I’m sure she probably grabbed screenshots of more of the accounts that follow me too. She told me that she was going to send these pictures to all of my followers. I asked her how I could get her to stop and she said she wants cash. I gave her a few hundred dollars already in Apple gift cards (it’s what she asked for). But I can’t keep doing this fuck her. I blocked her and I’m going to change my number when I get back from the field.
My question is obviously these military guys and my rotc unit might see these pictures. How do I get ahead of this??? Should I actually tell my commander and the squad leaders???
What about my rotc unit???
Like how do I even say this? “Unsafe for work images are being spread around with disgusting labels / accusations of me and they aren’t true”???
Who do I talk to first?
Thanks. I’ll take an Applebees burger and beer on Monday.
Edit: alright guys, this is a shit post. I just want to make that clear 😂 thank you to all the concerned folks sharing real advice though 💀and to the rest of you mongols, keep doin ya thing!
Interested to know what peoples experience studying bass at the Army School of Music was like? Do only study electric, or are there opportunities to play/practice on acoustic? What was your overall experience at he school like?
Thanks!
Anyone know about being a 13 Fox or the benefits of being one? I'm getting more nervous as I think about it, I have a background in education and am female. What are the pros of this MOS? Thank you
Hey guys, so I’ve been working with my recruiter to go Officer Candidate because I’ve already got a degree and I’m 23. The only thing is that I’ve been struggling with MEPS and I don’t have any military experience or ROTC. I want to be a leader, but I’m afraid I might be in over my head going for an officer. What does it mean to be an officer? What’s required and what’s it really like?
For example, I'm interested in deploying in South Korea. How likely is it for me to volunteer and join a unit that will be deploying in Korea?
Hey guys, I keep seeing people mentioning that they were able to Re-enlist, reclass and receive a bonus for certain MOS.
Is that true? I thought you could only get a bonus or reclass when re-enlisting.
Current National Guard on a MOB somewhere sandy, if that matters.
Alright, I’ve had Tricare for a while now and I’ve been in the guard so even longer. They are really good about covering. pretty much everything. And until this day I’ve never had any issues except with Tricare showing up as my secondary insurance when trying to get my monthly prescription filled, but that was so cheap. I didn’t really bother. I just use good RX. I’ve been diagnosed with very severe sleep apnea and this is all due to genetics. And I just got a call from the company that I’m getting my CPAP from through the sleep people in the hospital I worked with. And they said they’re having issues with my insurance and it’s not letting them authorize anything and anyone else run across anything like that?
? Curious
Recently some military had came to my career fair at my Highschool and I talked to the ones from the California Army National Guard and I talked to a recruiter, I’m waiting for him to message me about information and had some questions.
What do you do when you’re not training? Can you go on base and do things? Are there opportunities to do things in the city or maybe another state/overseas? I hope to become a 68W.
I was told they could participate in things like riot control, house raids etc,. If I were a medic, would I still be able to participate in these?
I’ve had a wrist sprain a while ago, it is now perfectly functional and healed, will this affect anything?
What made you choose the National Guard?
Thank you all 🙏🏽
Hello! So a few years back, I left the national guard, but I’m still in touch with my old recruiter due to him being a family friend. He told me of the GRIP program in the Guard, where current and former members of the Guard can recommend someone, and if they’re successful in their recruitment and graduated basic, you get paid for it. I got a buddy of mine through, filled out all the paperwork for him and myself, and submitted it. I got an email from their office stating they received the paperwork for it and said it all looked good. Then….nothing. I submitted this back in April, my buddy graduated tech school and is currently at his unit, and I haven’t heard a thing about the payment. I contacted my old recruiter and he had no idea. I contacted the GRIP office through email back in June, nothing.
So for anyone who has this program through their state, have you had any issues with this program? I know the whole “hurry up and wait” stuff but I never went this long with 0 communication while I was in, lol.
I got disqualified at meps for my astigmatism and strabismus. Submitted a waiver and now I have to go to an optometry consult. I don’t know what my my diopters are btw. I’m looking to enlist as a 12N.
Will my astigmatism disqualify me from being 12N or any other MOS? I’ll ask my recruiter when I see her next but figured I’d ask here.
I just got hired in an AGR position and I cannot start until NGB publish my orders. It has been one month of waiting for my orders and in the meantime I’ve been working for UberEats to make ends meet. It sucks that I don’t have a job in this holiday season because NGB didn’t publish my orders in a timely matter. Sorry for ranting but it’s been freaking hard.
Currently 27, college degree, just started off as a police officer. Life events kind of prevented me from joining up but still have the itch to serve. Money for the police is great, most I’ve ever made in my life so far. Should I look more towards Guard or Active Duty?
When I enlisted as an 11B in 2019, I signed a 6-year contract that paid $20,000 ($10,000 first year, $2,000 every year after that). About halfway through my contract in 2022, I was told by my readiness that I was slotted for 11C MOS-Q in Little Rock. I went, graduated, and had my primary MOS changed from 11B to 11C. After receiving my second blue cord (lmao), I talked with my readiness and asked if I was contractually allowed to promote as a chuck, or if I was to promote, would it have to be 11B. I was informed it didn’t matter considering my contract was ‘11X’ (apparently).
Time has gone on, I’ve done my dues down at the border and OLS, and have just gotten back from a MFO rotation in Egypt. My peers are pretty much all E5’s, a lot of them promoting in unit with lower promotion points. Obviously I took notice and talked with my readiness again; turns out I am cucked from promoting as a chuck, and the only two possibilities of getting said promotion is either waiving my last part of my bonus (around $1,450 after tax), or reenlisting for X amount of months to pick up my 5.
Feel like I’ve been scammed (and would’ve just remained a bravo if I knew this before hand). Any advice from others in a similar situation?
EDIT: I appreciate all of y’all’s advice on the post! I’ve gotten in contact with my unit’s Retention and Strength leadership.
Please help
How long does it typically take for a medical waiver to be approved in the national guard-michigan specifically if it matters state by state
