Hello, people of the National Guard! I’m merging with a recruiter tomorrow to go over heat the guard has to offer, and I want to know all of the questions you recommend, and the red flags to watch for.
I think we’re going to go over my PiCat scores, MOS options, medical history, etc. I have a list of questions I want to ask already:
My fiancé is in BCT rn or 88M, and will graduate from AIT in late March/ early April. I’m wondering if we should get married before or after I enlist.
She mentioned if we’re married and one of us gets called up, the Guard will keep us together.
4)RSP or straight to BCT? I’m almost 19, so I’m wondering if I would go straight to BCT or if I would attend RSP drills before shipping or not.
What to do to prepare, etc.
Any advice is more than welcome! ( my scores pictured above) for reference I am 18, almost 19 and am female.
I’m freaking out. I took my oath about a month ago and I’m only 17. My first drill is upcoming and I’ve received my first payment (haven’t touched). A lot of things have happened since. I’m moving out, my grandma passed last night, I decided I don’t want to go to medical school (The ONLY reason I enlisted was to go to college), and I in general am not happy. I want to go get diagnosed for depression and anxiety but I don’t know if I should. I want out. I want to be done. I’ll pay the money back, I’ll do anything. But everything I’ve seen online says I either need to die or I’ll be in legal trouble. I’m scared, please help!
I know this is such a hail mary (pun intended) but is there any chance they'll let us watch the superbowl at BCT? Probably a dumb question but just genuinely curious.
I know DADT was repealed, but i just want to know from the gay soldiers POV and other soldier's opinion the unfiltered reality of what's it's like being gay while in the armed forces, esp if one is not a macho "manly" man. List yall BCT experience and overall experience. What's y'all advice for bct? Will DS and other trainees act biased. just need to prepare myself for when i ship off to basic
Hey everyone,
Bear with me for a moment here. I’ve heard from numerous people in real life and some people online that Kansas is getting an airborne battalion. When I ask these people for details, I normally get the run around and don’t get any details about this. This rumor must come from somewhere. There’s no way that different service members from different parts of the country can say the same thing which leads me to believe there must be talks of this happening.
I recently just returned from a deployment and my TAMP benefits will kick in on the second week of January; however, I ETS in February and I was just curious about whether or not I will still get to continue using my TAMP benefits until my 180 days are up.
Thank you!
Hi everyone,
I’m submitting a packet, and I’m red on dental. I’m not sure how I can change this besides going to a dentist, but is there a form I need to take with me to get signed off? What’s the process and how long does it take for MEDPROS to update?
Is there an age or TIS cutoff to go from E to O? Also, what’s the minimum service requirement after you commission? Thanks.
I am coming to the close of my 6 years in the Air Guard. I am currently in Security Forces. I am deciding on whether I want to get out or reenlist or join the Army Guard. I never really got what I wanted out of the military in the Air Force/Security Forces and I don’t really see that changing if I reenlist. I’d love to continue my service and the Army does the things I want to do. I’m specifically interested in 11C.
I’ve read that there are options for shorter contracts like a 1 year or 3 year contract. What would such a short contract look like coming from a different branch?
Would I need to go back to MEPS?
I know I don’t have to attend the BCT portion but what could I expect as prior AF at AIT?
Has anyone else done this and have experience with the process? How were you able to integrate into the Army?
I am currently an E5, I believe I keep my rank. How does that work being completely new to the job/Army?
Does my dwell time from my AF deployment transfer over?
Thanks.
First post here went well. I’m a retired AGR with over 20+ years of service. I’ve love answering questions from people thinking about / trying to get into the AGR game. If that’s you, keeping pressing. They’re good gigs.
This post is for people with 10-15 years of AGR time. Hang in there! It’s worth it! Pension came in on time, health care is switched over, found a great civilian gig, and I don’t have to go to drill anymore! Really glad I did it, now it’s over and I get to do something 99% of people don’t, reinvigorate myself with a new career with the safety net of a pension.
If you have any questions on how to make it through to the other side, hit me up.
I am starting tech school for 25B very soon and have heard that what you learn in class won’t be enough to help you pass. Does anyone have any note taking strategies or tips to help out?
I have tonsils removed, hardware from a surgery many years ago, and had a varicocele a few years ago. That's about it for my medical issues and I can get these in paper or pdf. Should I bring them when I meet my recruiter and to meps or do I send them by email? Thank you
So I was out at a club and I talked to a security guard who claims to be in the 75th Ranger Regiment. I thought it was cool as shit but he told me to be lowkey about it. I didn't liste and I didn't think of it as a big deal to mention it. Second night out there I told a fellow guardsmen that this security guard was a Ranger. My guardsmen buddy proceeds to ask this security/ranger guy about the Regiment. This security/ranger gets absolutely pissed, pulls my shirt and told he that he told me to STFU about it. I told him chill but he was still absolutely pissed, I told him I thought it was cool as shit and tried to deescalate but he was still pissed. Moments later, I felt that dude made me look like a b**** and my night is all messed up because of it.
I confronted him later and asked if he was really a Ranger, he said yes but he told me to stfu about it and said that he was trying to seperate the ranger stuff from work then he proceeds to ask for my rank as he becomes absolutely pissed again, I told him my rank and he said yeah I should know to STFU. After he got heated again, I walked away. I felt it was better to walk away than to argue or fight a "RANGER" even if it hurt my pride/ego. I didn't know it was possible to be insecure about being a badass but I'm just a dumb private I guess. Idk man, ig Im wrong for not understanding.
Recently enlisted, haven’t shipped yet, so I’ve spent a lot of time reading up on the Guard but have no actual experience. Something I see mentioned a lot throughout this and the army subreddit is “toxic leadership”. Wanted to see if anyone cared to share some examples of “toxic leadership” they’ve heard or personal experiences or even just what those two words mean to you.
Hey y'all, I just have a few confusions regarding the 09R SMP program. I am a sophomore in college and I have talked with my recruiter as well as the ROO for my schools ROTC detachment. The ROO told me I should do 09R with the guard while doing ROTC as my state as a great intel unit I would be able to shadow. My questions are as follows:
I know I can go Active if I do not take a scholarship but what if I take state tuition assistance? I read that in some states you have to pay that back if you go active. Where can I find if that is the case for my state?
I wouldn't contract until the summer with ROTC, can I enlist as 09R for this upcoming spring semester?
For background I have 3/4 of my tuition paid for by academic scholarships, would y'all recommend the 09R SMP route for me, or should I just do ROTC?
I have read that the years I do SMP goes towards my pay, so when I commission would I be in the pay grade of an 01 with 2 years?
Would you recommend BCT over Basic Camp for the summer?
If I am wrong or naive about anything above please correct me. Thanks in advance for anyone who answers any of my questions.
I thought I read somewhere you need time to sleep the night before you go to drill for a certain period. I work two jobs and one is a night gig. Just want the backup when I tell them so there’s no confusion.
Which 25 series would you recommend?
My options are 11B 11C 12B 12C 12K 12N 12R 12W 13B 13F 13J 13P 13R 15P 19D 19K 27D 31B 36B 42A 42R 56M 68W 74D 88M 89B 91B 91D 91L 92A 92F 92G 92L 92M 92S 92W 92Y (im going split op so I have limited options)
Well guys and gals, in true Army fashion my wife recently found out she is pregnant (yay) and a couple weeks later I was told I am deploying (not yay). I’ve already had it pushed up to the BDE CDR but there’s no wiggle room, I’m going. With my wife due in July and me being on deployment during that time, I was wondering if there were any benefits I should be aware of or that you knew about that could help us during this. My wife is really stressing the early child care aspect so things on that would be cool. Thanks!
I am going to commission from ROTC in May, go to BOLC in September and start law school Fall 2026. How possible is it to drill in the ARNG as an officer AND go to law school full time? I am going Finance and looking for some insight!
How manageable is it to be in law school full time and be a finance officer drilling in the ARNG? Looking for some insight! I commission in May and am going to BOLC in September. I will start law school Fall'26. I’m kind of nervous about doing both at the same time.
So I've used the search bar and have found some posts about this but with varying information. Ive been out of IRR since 2021 (less than 5 years), would I have to go to PS-AIC? I looked up the regs myself and found this:
AR 601-210 Ch 5-16 b. (1) (d) "All PS applicants who have had a break in service of over 3 years will attend Army BCT. PS applicants with a break in service of 3 or more years will be retrained regardless of enlisting with old MOS. Break in service is defined as last period of service, to include IRR, regardless of component. For the purpose of this section, for Soldiers who separate, break in service starts after MSO under 10 USC 651 is completed, or when a Soldier (regardless of Service) is no longer a member of an RC (including the IRR)."
I read Army directive 2019-13 6, and it claims to have extended the break in service period to 5 years instead of 3.
Does anyone have any recent experience with this?
Prior army national guard, and I have already passed a Special Forces Evaluation as a civilian.
What’s up guys I’m joining the FLNG as an 11b next year and wanted to hear some opinions on the FL unit locations? My options are leesburg, eustis, and ocala since these are the closest to me (~1.5 hrs). Are there any upsides or downsides to a specific one? I haven’t been able to find much online and my recruiter doesn’t know much about them either.
Approaching the end of my first 6 year contract in the Army National Guard. Having a difficult time deciding on getting out or not. I understand the Army has its times when it’s really lame but really enjoy my time in service. Have a good career civilian side and don’t really like the idea of collecting a retirement a hair before 60. Interested in earning a commission, but also getting out and moving on with life and getting my weekends back would be cool. Thoughts?
How long does it takes to get NGB-22 I didn’t went to basic training my nco said it will take 90 days to process is there a way I can get it faster from the national guard is it that hard to make to take 90 days?
Found out I’m pre-diabetic 14 days from turning blue how screwed am I?
I’ve had strep throat for the fourth time this year and my tonsils are now so enlarged it’s difficult to swallow. My PCP has handed me off to a surgeon to get a tonsillectomy scheduled, which will hopefully happen sometime in December.
The issue is, I’m supposed to ship to IET the first week of January. Will this screw up my contract? I really don’t want to be discharged.
So, my career has thus far been convoluted and all over the place. I was a combat engineer in the USMC, a 68W in the MT Army National Guard, got the “itch” to go active again and now I am a 74D in AD. REALLY regret going back to AD and think that NG is a better option for me.
So that’s a brief overview of what led me here, the issue I need assistance with? I have a permanent profile (repeat injuries requiring surgical intervention) and I’m not sure if that could be a problem for me. Any advice for getting back in, waivers, people to talk to, etc would be greatly appreciated. I tried to talk to a NG recruiter to get the questions answered but no dice. I am open to Air or Army NG.
