Sorry if this is the wrong sub for this topic.
I've heard before that going to college for a degree in music production really isn't worth it, A. Because of how expensive it is, and B. Chances of even really getting a job with said degree are low.
But I'm wondering if that's the case with a degree in audio engineering? As much as music is my passion, I know its not realistic from a career stand point, so I'm just curious if Audio engineering is much better, and any more realistic. thanks!
I have been told my mixes can be a bit better I was wondering if using the my pc audio card is hindering me and should I upgrade to an audio interface and get proper studio monitors will that help me with my mixes ? Tia probably a noon question but I’m just taking music serious now as I’m getting good feedback .
Any free trap drum kits and 808s? Gonna start making SoundCloud type of music so I just wanna find some drum kits. Thank you
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a granular synthesis plugin. I’ve been using The Mangle for a long time, which I consider to be a very underrated plugin. It had all the features I needed. However, I recently switched from Windows to macOS, and unfortunately, The Mangle doesn’t support macOS.
I decided to purchase Quanta 2 since it was recommended to me, but despite its beautiful interface, it lacks the features I need. For example: • It’s impossible to quantize the grain rate to the project tempo (e.g., 1/4 notes, etc.). • There’s no way to adjust the attack or release of individual grains (Quanta only offers a set of predefined shapes).
Do you have any recommendations for granular synthesis plugins on macOS (free or paid) that include these kinds of features?
Thank you!
Hi guys. So I started distributing my music through Routenote but the service slowly went to hell and became unusable, so I decided to change to Tunepartner and it's taken way less time to absolutely totally suck.
So I'm looking for alternatives for music distribution, but before you kindly suggest Distrokid and the likes, I'm looking for Europe-based distros.
As for the why it must be European, I need it for tax reasons. In my country getting money (even if it's a little) from the US means while residing in Europe is really expensive and not really practical.
So which EU-based distribution services do you know/use/recommend?
I love to make music only just for pleasure. Because I enjoy it as a hobbie, and I have no more interest than making compositions that other people can like it, and make the feel good. So, my question is if can I post here some link for anyone that would like to hear my music? Well, I will put just one link, and you can decide to continue hearing my music. That's all and feel free to tell me how you felt when listening it. I will read all opinions. Thak you!

"MOP handle ur bizness remix instrumental dj premier" is the instrumental in question. Any instrumental versions I find has some kind of transporter noise every 3 seconds. The vocal version doesnt seem to have it.
Im trying to find the version heard in S1E3 of trailer park boys. It was the instrumental version with no trace of the transporter sound. The beat/tune carried on for 4 cycles.
Is there a different version im not finding, or was the track on the tv show modified?
I don’t know if I’m late to the party o. This but it seems like everyone and their mom thinks the distressor is the best all around compressor? Is it true or is this just a good marketing campaign they’re running as of late?
I remember years ago I read a post about this. There were mixed responses I remember. I'd like to open the can of worms again.
I can't recall being in a situation where I was able to compare two in the same environment, wonder what others think? Thanks
Hi, I posted on here a few days ago about which Mac to purchase for music production and I got so many nice and detailed responses so firstly, thank you.
I subsequently went on youtube and got myself in a rabbit hole of watching far too many reviews and videos, and now I’m even more torn than I was before.
I think it just comes down to me being overwhelmed with the amount of choices to be honest. I’m just a bit worried about putting the money down for a machine that will underperform but I also don’t want to spend the money on something much more powerful if realistically I don’t need too.
One of the main things that I kept seeing on virtually every single video were people saying that logic does not effectively use efficiency cores, but then on the post I made a few days ago there were lots of people that are using old MacBook Airs and previous Mac minis with M1/M2 that have less performance that say they work really well so I’m just so confused.
Please excuse my ignorance, but could someone please explain to me in layman terms what this actually means (Not using efficiency cores) and how much of a big deal it is? - a lot of these guys talk in very professional terms and I understand that, but sometimes I just need somebody to explain it in a more basic way for me to understand.
I'll mostly be using lots of sample packs, Serum, possibly Vital, and lots of plugins.
The machine I’m thinking of purchasing is the Apple M4 chip with 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine with 24GB unified memory, 256GB SSD storage with Gigabit Ethernet, Three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMi port, two USB-C ports, headphone jack.
I’ve got a little over 1k - Can somebody please just recommend me the most efficient machine for the money and workflow I’ve mentioned. Laptop, PC, doesn’t matter.
Thank you.
hola, im considering music production as a career choice/to study in college. im curious as to what should be the "entry level" knowledge if that makes sense. i have asked the college i could go to online but they haven't responded yet! thank you!

How to get my synths, claps, hats, Kicks , Bass to Sound More Like This?
Lots of saturation I guess, but I cant really get close. Any idea what they did for that Sound?
I just cant make it that saturatrd without Making it harsh or dull (After EQ’ing)
For a bit of context, the country I live in isn't very receptive to new artists or anything related to arts in general, so we rarely ever have talents that flourish. I want to bring the genre of music I fell in love with to my country and I want to be the start, but I just dont know how. The content I make on instagram rarely gets views and the tiktoks I post usually gain 8-9 likes and 1 or 2 comments of people saying they like it, while the rest of the viewers use my videos as a streaksaver on tiktok. How should I find likeminded people to grow my audience? Should I just continue posting and embrace the ridicule until it clicks?

The first video is the chord progression I was talking about. The second one is the melody I was talking about. Again they are not part of the same song/music/project.
I’ve been feeling extremely demotivated recently in making music because i have yet to be able to produce a full song or beat after at least 50+ hours of trying to learn music production. I’ve spent at least 100+ hours on tutorials alone and I still feel stagnant in the same skill level.
I will start a project then either make a drum loop that sounds good but i can’t figure out a melody or chords. Or i will make a melody that sounds meh then i cant make chords that fit the melody.
I want to grow into this skill and I know how to play 3 instruments already but it really just seems like Im not made for making music :/
I don’t know much time you gotta devote to music before you have something to show for it but I feel like i’m making zero progress right now. I don’t have any beats or songs i’m proud of, let alone finished.
Just want to know if this is a normal thing in every composers journey or i’m just not cut out for this
Hey there, I'm doing some check on my previous music EP. I used Shazam which I think should be a good tool anyone who uses makes music with electronic production. One of my track at least in the starting gave me a result of some other obscure song which sounds a bit like my song, the rest of the track changes and as for my other songs it seems like it clear, there was one another track which I thought I was going to find sound the same turns out its different.
Hence I have a dilemma I plan to re-release my EP through a new distributor, so now I have two options I either drop that track or get in touch with some clearance agency (if you can recommend would be great) to maybe try to sort it out and see if there would be any issues that arise if I do release this track. Quick story, I released and wrote some of the music back around 2014 when I didn't know to much about production, I was using sample packs back then which I thought I would be in the clear from since I assume these sample packs are all cleared so I thought it was fine. Moving forward I don't use sample packs and if I do I usually clarify with the DAW that release those sample packs. I found this tool online seems to be the only kind of plagiarism tool I've manage to come across -- https://mippia.com/
Also another important information, I've lost most of my tracks as backup so I cant actually go in and change things.
Need help finding windows 10 drivers for the M-Audio FastTrack guitar mic recording interface
Not sure if this is the right sub to ask, but I just wanna know what effects Akira used to go from the original sample:
https://youtu.be/4ESFTeLvd9Q?si=MPVdeWxWxNAQwSi2
To the soundtrack:
Literally just a single groovy bassline with some drums is enough to sound good. Add some piano or guitar chords and you have a full song.
I always saw bass as a bit of an afterthought, where I would first create the chords and melody and then lazily slap on an 808 following the chords or whatever. My music always felt a bit robotic / soulless but I didn't know why.
Recently I've been trying to go for a bit of a disco vibe by starting with drums, a bassline, and percussion, and it's insane how easy it is to make good sounding music when you have a good bassline and groove.
Just listen to Dua Lipa or Charlie Puth, their songs will often have a chorus that's just a bassline, drums and vocals. Don't Start Now (Dua Lipa) and Attention (Charlie Puth) both do this really well.
If your music is technically good but feels soulless / empty just search some videos on how to write a bassline, and try to make a song based on a simple bassline.
I am becoming increasingly convinced groove = everything. This is what Michael Jackson did. Listen to his most famous songs, it's literally just a bassline, drums, voice, and then some vague synth chords or whatever.
My keyboard (yamaha psr 434) has no midi out, but I can get a midi signal to the pc via usb.
I also use an interface (scarlett solo)
How can I get a midi out into an analog synth (korg volca keys) that has a midi in?
I’m extremely sorry if this is the incorrect sub. But I have a video that has vocals, music, and backround sound such as explosions and fighting. I want to remove the explosions and fighting but not the vocals or music. All of the tools I found online just separate the music. Help is greatly appreciated
I am only looking for your opinions, not for a fact or an objective definition.
Does combining an internet guitar sample and an internet drum track that have the same BPM count as producing music?
It is according to this person I was having a discussion with.
Doing nightcore (speeding up + bass boosting a song) counts as producing music according to him.
Slowed down + Reverb also counts as producing music to him.
Doing a mashup playlist counts as producing music according to him.
Am I being a gatekeeper, or is there a point where a process is too low-effort to call it producing?
Behringer has motorized faders while the M-Audio has more pads. Which one of those is better for beginners? Should I get a 49 key or 61? Would getting a separate synthesizer keyboard and separate drumpad be better?

Personally I believe this is the greatest dance track ever made, and I’m a DnB guy.
It sounds so organic, there’s so much movement in all the parts, there are so many well balanced subtleties almost unnoticeable within the density of the mix. It’s heavy, it’s massive, the arrangement is bang on. Each element of each section could be a classic tune by itself. There’s not a single bit of its sound design that’s quality is generic or thin. Still breathtaking this put together using windows 97.
It just sounds fucking huge. Compared to their other tunes and other EDM of that era, and also when you’ve loaded up Logic 10 today and start something from scratch, how it sounds empty and ‘electronic’
Finally, from the perspective of someone properly rolling on MD, it’s a pumping, ominous experience. Imagine hearing this for the first time in some dark club in the late 90’s.
Hey Boy Hey Girl is the archetypical example of how to create electronic dance music.
I'm in the market for a pair of studio monitor speakers for my home desk setup. I'll mainly be listening to music, watching movies and playing video games, but I'll also be doing some light music production/recording on the side, as well as mixing the occasional guitar cover for YouTube.
Since I have limited desk space, I've narrowed it down to these two compact speakers: the Kanto Ora and the Adam Audio D3V. The Kantos have been out for a while so there are plenty of reviews, but since the Adam D3Vs were just released, I don't have much info to go off of. There aren't even any Amazon reviews yet. The Kantos are $50 more expensive but have Bluetooth and the option to add a subwoofer, but they would need to sound better than the Adam Audio D3V to be worth the price for me, since I don't care about Bluetooth and I won't be buying a sub anytime soon. My maximum budget is $350, ideally less, so these two speakers are right at the limit of what I'm willing to spend.
Has anyone here managed to listen to both, and could you please tell me which one sounds better and would be better suited for my use case?
Hi guys!
I'd like to make myself busy when travelling (so it won't be my main equipment). I was thinking about decent wireless headphones. I found AIAIAI TMA-2 Studio Wireless+ but opinions are not perfect. I wonder if any of you use them and can share some thoughts; or if you know and can recommend any other wireless headphones.
Cheers
