Hey all, does anybody here produce and/or mix with hearing aids? How does that affect your perception of music?
The mix/master of my first production sounds overcompressed and flat, but sounds slightly better without hearing aids. The pre-mixed version sounds fine with and without hearing aids.
So, I'm not sure if the mixed/mastered version sounds worse due to my hearing aids or not.
My hearing aids mainly enhance higher frequencies (percussion etc.) and I'm trying to understand in which other ways they can affect my experience of music.
What are some good alternatives for the alterboy and echoboy plugin by soundtoys
I’ve been looking at it and it seems really good but I don’t really want to exactly spend money on it so I wanna know if there’s any free alternatives too it.
If you know any please tell me it would help and mean so much to me.
Hi, I am trying to get a more punchy tight sound on my bass, an example is if you listen to the bass sound on Sultans of swings dire straits.
Its hard to describe but it feels snappy and sharp. How much of it is down to original tone or is it down to effects like compression? I've heard multi band compression is good. Thanks a lot
Hi guys building the home studio and was wondering how I could continue to build and invest. Currently have the following set up.
Roland system 1 plug out synth Akai EIE pro sound card A1021 MacBook Pro Ableton 10 Adam’s TV7 Monitors Arturia Yamaha DX7 Arturia Collection V Soundtoys Plug In Bundle Shure Microphone SM7B Juno 6V
Any feedback suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks in advance
I’ve attached a link to a song from Surgeon Simulator, a game for which the music was outsourced to a company called Black Heron and they did not have to make it slap so hard. For a while now I’ve been trying to replicate the soft synth brass kind of sound that they used as the lead in this track, but everything I’ve tried doesn’t quite work. I’ve trans Xpand!2 but all the synth brass instruments are too generic.
I’m using pro tools studio and im about to migrate to Fl studio so ideally anything compatible with both of those DAWs would be good. Any help is appreciated, thank you
Hello!
My singer and myself are looking to get back into putting our covers up on YouTube, but when we last did it we had a very clunky setup involving a laptop and a million cables.
Is there any way we could have a much smaller setup? Something we can throw up in a few minutes and get playing.
Ideally something using my iPhone, but I have a chromebook too if that helps.
Any ideas?
I have been making things the past couple months when i first started but also just got into this mood where i wanna try and sample too such as just singular instruments or even like full sounds that i could loop but all the websites i visit are just subscriptions to the website to view "royalty-free" samples. Im a little unknowledgeable but from what ive gathered royalty-free would be the best option if i were to ever want to upload a song with that sample and make money so i dont get copyrighted i believe? If im wrong please correct me.
Which leads me to my problem, if i wont be able to subscribe one day since right now im on a very VERY tight budget just getting small things at a time, would i lose basically all rights to the samples if i dont subscribe to that website? If so where would i go to just outright buy a sample or get free ones i wont have to worry about legally in the future?? If thats even possible please help. Thank you a hell of a lot and sorry for the long read. ❤️
Idk what to do. I want to get good, get great, get signed one day, cos this is fun, but everything is so difficult. When I make beats on my phone it’s so restricted that things like timing and staying on tempo gets really difficult, but when using FL studio I get really overwhelmed. Only DAW I’m comfortable in is Logic but I don’t have a mac. And again, koala sampler on phone, but idk it doesn’t feel like anything I make is even close to good. Do I just have to keep making beats? What have you done if you were in a similar position? Thanks.
I have a sample that resolves every 2 bars(in a sort of jumpy but good way)I can't seem to add drums without them feeling out of place.
Any advice on this?
I usually can make drum parts for songe that I play all the instruments(or use a synth). This isn't about them sounding out of place sonically due to lack of mixing, they're out of place musically.
I played guitar for a year before I decided to make music. I've been doing both since roughly 2022.
This post isn't for me, I've already come to terms with my music and how I feel about it.
I hope this post is for people who are hesitant to start, or are just starting.
I published before I was ready on purpose. I knew I'd be kinda ok at it one day, and wanted to leave a trail for others to follow.
It's possible this post just gets called Self-Promotion and gets chunked, but to try and avoid that, I'll just tell you my name is Guardian, and I'm here to help =)
Look for the pineapples and if you need/want help sitting down and making a song, lemme know.
I can't/won't just give you pointers because music is collaborative in nature.
Even if you don't go looking, the point is:
It gets better. It gets easier. It gets more fun.
i've been producing for about 7 years now consistently, i've gotten quite good, however, I don't have the best voice and i'm not THAT good at any instrument really, i was wondering if any of u guys wanted to work on a song together? i really want to work with a vocalist, pop is more my specialty but I'm also down for some edm, phonk, dubstep, honestly I just wanna mess around, have fun, and possibly make a banger
Title says most of the meat of it. I'm recording a guitar track from a GT-1000 into a Scarlet 2i2 into Studio One. Everything sounds good aside from that fact that when palm muting there's a very distinct "squeak" or "ringing" that I can completely eliminate by EQing out everything at (according to the ProEQ Plugin... image attached) 1.89kHz.
So, obviously I can EQ it out in the DAW, but I'd rather figure out what might be causing it on the other end of the world. Sure, I could also EQ it out in the model on the GT-1000, but I'd rather try and figure out exactly what the nature of the "squeak" is.
Anyone got any ideas?
Chris from Air Windows just released a consolidated plugin that contains around 400 of his plugins for free in one interface. The stuff is high quality and the interface is simple definitely check it out.
This is the github link : https://github.com/baconpaul/airwin2rack/blob/main/doc/manualdaw.md
Not affiliated with air windows btw
Me and some buddies have formed a band and have played shows now everyone keep asking about recorded music on Spotify so we’re trying to make sum.
We have a vs 1880 and have a part of a song that had a drum solo which we’ve recorded. Sounds alright, but on it’s own it feels like it’s lacking texture. Any producing tips on how to make it more interesting ? Maybe emphasis on certain drums or effects ? Thanks
Another question that confuses me and can never find an answer online for. Thanks
For example Vampire by Olivia rodrigo. She doesn’t make the music part she just sings right? So my question is who actually creates the music part for all of these hit songs. This question really confuses me.
Has anyone recorded acoustic drums with a pair of Telefunken TF17 mics and liked the results? I’m in the market for some new drum overheads and typically record with the Glynn Johns setup: kick, snare and two overheads.
I'm having trouble loading videos on tracktion waveform. I've done it in the past, it's usually temperamental but works after a while. On this occasion it's not working at all. I've updated the software, tried .mp4 .mov .avi and .wmv
I've also got the free trial of pro and on that it just crashes the software whenever I try to load a video, even after changing the video playback. I can't think what else to try, any help is appreciated
Also, if anyone can suggest another free DAW for windows, that would be great. I've tried installing bandlab but the installation keeps crashing....
So I really want to produce pop and hip-hop (maybe more genres later, but these two mainly) beats and music, but I don’t really know where to start. I have a DAW, i know how to use it, so I asked a question here about a week ago. Someone told me I should learn music theory (i think it was? I dont remember) and music composition. I honestly have no creators or vids in specific in mind, so I’d like to see if there are any vids/people who you would recommend to a noob like me. Any help is appreciated!
Basically the title. I’m familiar with automatic chopping on beats/transients, and then nudging, however that frequently leaves gaps where there’s no audio. What’s the modern way to quickly grid-snap entire tracks? (Do I need Ableton warp or are there other options? And I’m not even sure warp is the correct term here. I’d also prefer either weighted quantize or only snap every 16/32 measures to grid, either way to keep some of the human feel and groove.) Thanks all!
My HDD has broken today and I lost Jonas Aden's free sample pack which I love. The download link is gone and can't download it anywhere...
Hey folks, I’m starting to get back into audio production after not doing it regularly for years. I really wanna set myself up for success and get a new pc. My old one does just fine for basics, but if I use more than one VSTi or any VST that takes a decent chunk of power my system goes a little nuts. What should I be looking for in a PC? I’ve found a few mid tier gaming pcs in my area for cheap but I’m not sure if they’ll do what I need them to. Any and all advice helps. Thank you.
Hey all! This is my first post in this sub- I'm an amateur music maker and I was curious if anyone could help me with trying to create a sound similar to the one in this aespa song (Drama):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CvJKTChsl4
The instrument I'm trying to recreate is the distorted guitar-ish sounding synth playing during the chorus. I use LogicPro X and if anyone has any tips for creating an instrument that is similar sounding, I'd be super grateful to hear them.
Bonus points: Those wobbling off-tune bells in the very beginning are really cool as well, so If anyone has suggestions for creating that sound as well, I'd be extremely excited to hear!
Beginner hardware workflow question
Hi everyone,
I have been on my production journey for a few months. I purchased Ableton 11 Suite and have been loving it.
However, I noticed that I do not love staring at my computer. I would love to be able to press buttons and twist knobs, so to speak. I believe it would make it more of a gratifying experience.
What are some good pieces of beginner hardware that can help me enjoy a physical workflow while also making use of Ableton Suite?
Would it be a synth? A drum machine? A groove box? I am a bit lost and would love an idea on how to cultivate a hardware workflow to have fun.
I want to make house / techno / electronic.
Sometimes I want to retain the sound's body, but clean it up a bit.
I don't want to have to resort to using some expensive complex software like spectrolayers or something.
Ive never seen a tutorial anywhere to create basses like Super future (artist) and thats probably because he is at the top of the game for bass music sound design imo. His distortion and harmonics are just next level. Heres a track that I feel showcases some of the basses im talking about. @ around 55 seconds https://youtu.be/NZ5nagOXggk?si=UIvDL7J-AQ9jDQur.
Would pay $ to anyone who can show me how to make this or make a preset that sounds like this in vital preferably or serum. Not looking to copy him but make it my own.
I've just about hit my limit after using Cakewalk/Sonar for 20 years because it just can't do this. And searching the internet doesn't yield much results for this seemingly niche issue. I have standalone versions of the VSTi's that I'd like to control in this way and I can control them with Cakewalk via loopback MIDI drivers, but then I lose the ability to capture/mix/master their audio output so there's no point. I can't even do simple things like change pitch bend range sensitivity even though the VSTi supports it. It's really affecting my workflow. I need an alternative (for Windows). Anybody know what decent DAWs can do this offhand?
I understand that early devices like gramophones did not use electricity. So what is the earliest point in time that sound/music could have been recorded if the tech was better understood?
