r/milbros uplifts the LGBTQIA+ members of all Military Services by providing conversation, support and resources for all.
Any Military Service Member from any country is encouraged to interact on this forum!
Milbros is for current, retired, and prospective LGBT service members and allies. Feel free to share anything from stories to selfies, all discussion is welcome so long as it stays LGBT or military related, and isn't the sort of thing that would earn you a briefing if your CoC came across it.
Expect to see a moderator changeup and (hopefully) some better direction for this sub in the coming days. Not sure who decided to leave an air force officer in charge unsupervised, but I guess here we are.

Hello! I am a military spouse I am conducting an important research study to determine the effects of occupational stress and command support on mental health symptoms in service members. I am recruiting active duty (US Army ONLY) males between the rank E-1 and E-5 to participate. If you fit the criteria, please take this short survey. It will take about 15 minutes to complete, and at the end you can enter a drawing for a $50 Amazon gift card. The responses are anonymous. Please complete the survey in one sitting with an adequate time to read all questions thoroughly. Partial and fast responses cannot be recorded and are not eligible for the gift card drawing. Thank you so much!! I appreciate your time!

Hello,
My name is Dathan (D.J.) Simpson and I am PhD student at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I am the son of a disabled veteran and my fiancé was in the Navy. For my dissertation I am conducting research about the experiences of Gay and Lesbian service members. I am interviewing Gay and Lesbian Service members about their experiences while serving. The interview is completely confidential and you will receive a $25 gift card for participating. If you or any of your friends would be interested in participating please please contact me. I will be attaching a flyer with more info! I have had trouble finding people who are willing to participate and I would appreciate any help!

Study: Veteran Families of Reddit,
The Family Flex Study is being conducted by researchers at Teachers College, Columbia University, we want to hear from spouses and children (aged 11-17) of veterans.
Times have rarely been more difficult, and the families of Veterans aren’t always getting the help they need. This is partly because not enough is known about the experiences of Veteran families during challenging times. You can help address this knowledge gap, and help improve services for Veteran families, by participating in the Family Flexibility research study.
https://www.tc.columbia.edu/ltelab/
Our study aims to learn more about what makes Veteran families resilient, and how that resilience can break down. The more we know about this, the more can be done to help support resilience through additional resources and support services.
If you are the spouse or partner of a veteran with a child aged 11-17, we would like your help with our study. Please follow the link below to learn more and sign up.
We appreciate your time, and we hope to see you in the study soon.
Family Flexibility Study Team
TL;DR: We're a research team from Teachers College, Columbia University conducting a study about how veteran families deal with hard times.
Hi everyone! I won't try to sugar coat things I guess. I'm "old", just turned 41, and I ETS'd in 2016. I miss the army a lot and I say I'm caught between 2 worlds because even though I'm "old", I have been back in college since I came home. My best friend is 22 and most of the people I hang out with are around half my age. It's hard for me to relate to people my age because I'm single, have no children, and work part time. Essentially, living the college life at 41.
I'm just wondering if there are any active duty soldiers that would like to write letters, especially if their going on deployment and have no one to write to them. I'm into video games, reading, anime, music, politics (as long as you're not psycho), history, geography, trivia, harry potter, and much more. I am a graduate student studying chemistry if that makes a difference. I'm a big stranger things fan along with drag race, the office, K dramas, and chinese martial arts films. I will also be up front and say that I am Jewish so if that's a problem for you I don't care, just don't talk to me if you're an anti-semite, thank you.
I love whiskey, tequila, wine, and drinking in general so share your recipes!!! And speaking of recipes, I love to cook so share those too! We can start messaging here then move to snail mail if you think we can have a good exchange. Hope to hear from you guys soon!
Hello r/milbros! I'm u/pinkstonjb and I am one of the new moderators of this wonderful subreddit! I am eager and want to make this subreddit the best place on Reddit for gay military service members across the world! This is my first time moderating a subreddit, so please bear with me as i learn the ropes!
A little bit about myself, I'm in the Army - for 7 years now, and have been stationed all around embracing the suck every step of the way.
My philosophy for this sub is simple. I want to revive this sub to a space on Reddit for Gay/LGBTQIA+ Service Members from all around to share their experiences, news, and most importantly CONNECT. Being the in Military can often isolate us from our queer peers and I want this to be a space for us to connect and boost each other up.
Moving forward you can expect the rules of this sub to start being enforced, along with updates and changes. I'll be posting some polls, for members to vote on things we should do moving forward. If there is anything you want to see don't be afraid to reply to this thread, message the mod team or make a separate post about what you want!
Thanks,
-Pinkstonjb
Anyone at Fort sill looking at all?

I've tried LGBT veteran groups in the city, and I most certainly do not fit in with them. I'm a combat veteran (Marine). I mean in general I don't fit in with lgbt type groups, but damn it'd be nice to meet some fellow gay vets that like to crack a cold one on the weekend. Just a rant. That's all.
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
If you were discharged under DADT, the military services are allowing veterans to change their discharge on their DD214s, which will qualify them for benefits. From their newsletter:
"You may qualify for VA health benefits right away. Even with a less than honorable discharge, you may be able to access some VA benefits through the Character of Discharge review process. When you apply for benefits, VA will review your record to determine if your service was “honorable for VA purposes.” This review can take up to a year.
Hi MilBros family. I want to start off with happy Pride month. Pride shouldn’t be confined to one month, however. Be loud and proud all year round.
I do want to point out the progress that the military has shown in terms of supporting our LGBT family. The US Marine Corps’ official Instagram put a post on their page about Pride.
If you haven’t seen it, check it out at

It’s just a small snippet of support. This doesn’t mean that the struggles are over, but strides have been made in the right direction. Remember where we came from, and where we are now.
Stay safe.

Hi,
My name is Shannon Razsadin and I'm the President & Executive Director for the Military Family Advisory Network (MFAN).
We're doing a survey about the impacts of COVID-19 on veteran and military families during these unprecedented times. We will be using the data to understand our community's unique needs during the pandemic and then work with our network of partners to inform support and programming for them during this critical time.
In case you're unfamiliar with MFAN, we represent military and veteran families worldwide by providing clear and actionable research and data that articulate the lived experiences of those we serve. MFAN shares its data with government and Armed Services leadership, community providers, and other stakeholders who are in positions to affect change.
Our latest COVID-19 experience survey takes no more than 3 minutes. We hope you’ll consider filling this out so we can continue to help our military and veteran families.
Thank you for your time and for your considerations,
Shannon
I hope you MilBros are staying safe and warm this holiday season. With the restrictions that the DoD has put in place for Active Duty folk, and some states being more strict than others, I know some of you weren’t able to go home and see family this year. If any of you need someone to talk to, please don’t hesitate to DM me. Have a happy New Year’s Day!
