What are some options that this thread is interest in / going to? I see the schedules at Factory Town and Space but I'm curious to know if there are "better" options available.
Hey guys,
I recently moved back to the States/the U.S after living abroad for 5 years. Recently made a friend (who was also born/raised abroad) that moved to Miami roughly at the same time.
Basically, they want to experience Art Week/Art Basel, as it would be their first time. I've done my research as I did very little during Art Basel week when I lived here in Miami, so I don't really know what to expect.
It seems that from browsing the sub (and researching other sites), it seems that the traffic, especially in Miami Beach, can be a nightmare. My fear is buying tickets to Art Basel (for the weekend), and having most of the day be about finding parking, waiting in line, and being stuck in traffic (amongst other inconveniences). Is it actually worth it in 2024 (I know it has deteriorated)?
I saw that the team at Basel Time compiled a cool list of events happening in the Miami Design District. Would spending some time at the district be a more relaxed day/experience for us in terms of crowds/parking? They seem to have some cool museums and art exhibits happening this week, but I've never been.
If not, what are some chiller alternatives for enjoying Art Week (besides staying home, lol)?
Any thoughts about this from you guys?
I got pulled over going 95mph in a 70mph on I-75/Alligator Ally! Zero previous tickets or any charges whatsoever...
I was thinking about using Ticket Clinic, but after reading lots of other threads, it seems like my best bet would to just be take the 4 hour driving school and appear in court myself....and when I do show up in court, am I just pleading no contest and telling the judge that I already took the course?
Anyone agree/disagree? Ultimately I'm looking for the best advice to NOT get points on my license and avoid an increase to my insurance! (advice other than DONT SPEED* lol)
Thanks in advance!
I'm thinking at LEAST 40 more y'all. There needs to be a place to buy $45 pasta on every corner.
Maybe another 30 Neapolitan style pizza parlors? I can't be the only one thinking this
I've been South Florida, mainly Miami Dade County my entire life and I can't, for the life of me, figure out why every time you try to switch lanes, the driver in the lane you're switching to will speed up. This especially happens on the 826. They see that turn signal turn on and they accelerate from 65 to 90.
Ive (25F) lived in Miami my whole life, and somehow I’ve always found it difficult to make long lasting friendships here in Miami. I am a pretty social gal, but I don’t know why I struggle meeting other women. If I do meet them, they’re always temporary friendships. To make matters worse, I feel like it’s incredibly difficult to meet people in your 20s. It’s either through friends of friends or work (which I’ve learned most work friends shouldn’t be close friends).
Does anyone else have this issue? Any advice on how to meet more people?
I have an overnight layover in MIA. My flight lands at 11:30PM.
I want to go to Factory Town but I'll have no where to keep my backpack.
Does Factory Town have a coat check where I could check my backpack?
The airport has luggage storage but it closes at 9PM so that doesn't work for me.
"Bounce" luggage storage has a facility nearby at Miami One Rent A Car, but they just cancelled my reservation because they said "Miami One Rent A Car is now closed."
Any help would be greatly appreciated <3
Is it normal to pay $230 in sewer fee monthly at your building?
I live on South Beach in a very nice building around 10th street.
The building is one of the best here; but this fee sounds abnormal to me…
Last time i asked management they said thats the fee, i asked couple neighbors everybody seem to be paying different amount. I have 2b &2b.
P.S not my first building on miami beach i used to leave on the building next to this one and i paid $50 in sewer monthly. i am renting the apartment from a association and everything is through website when it comes to payments ( smart rent )
Let me know ur thoughts
Hey Miamirinos, I have a 2005 Subaru Outback that has a gremlin in the transmission. It’s my daily driver, so the situation is not great. Given that Subarus are becoming more common down here (I got mine 7.5 years ago and could count on one hand the number of others I’d see in a day, not so much anymore) I thought I’d ask if any of you have a Subie (or transmission in general) guy or girl you’d recommend for competence and, ideally, cost efficiency. I’m really lucky to have a Dad who has fixed almost everything in our cars for basically my whole life, but, by 2005, a whole lot of computing and sensors were going into transmission systems and we’re not having much (ok, any) success in tracking this issue down… can’t keep throwing parts at it hoping something will work.
Any advice is appreciated!
Happy art week! Looking to visit one of these events this Wednesday. I see they’re both contemporary art fairs but I would love some input from anybody who’s attended both.
Any key differences between both? If you had the choice to attend only one, which one would you go to?
So what are some must attend things to do or see. This is new to me and with all the events Im not sure whats even worth attending?
Looking for someone who looks similar to Cloonee or has a similar vibe to star in a short film following a DJ.
-No acting experience required
-Very little dialogue
-Local / up and coming is better
-Shooting end of Dec / early Jan
-Based in Miami or nearby
Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!
Im a full time med surg nurse with a year experience looking for a part time or PRN position for some extra $$$. If you guys know of places hiring please let me know!
I'm going to rent a car as soon as I arrive at MIA and I don't want to be extorted by the rental company by using their SunPass. What's the nearest place from there to buy one?
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I can purchase a 7 day fare/pass, with an easy card to use the bus and train all throughout Miami-Dade? I can purchase this at the Miami International Airport as well?
I have to purchase 2 cards because my husband and I, cannot use the same card?
The metro mover is free?
Sorry I'm not from the US, I'm just making sure my research is correct.
Also, I'm thinking to going to Fort Lauderdale for a few hours, what's the best way to get there? I was thinking of using indrive seems to be cheaper than uber/Lyft. Or should we rent a car for the day?
Was hoping to open up this up to hear what people think will happen to Miami's real estate market in the next few years.
My wife and I are in a one bedroom in Edgewater. We are happy and comfortable with our apartment but recently learned we are expecting our first child, which is amazing news. We have been discussing about eventually needing more space, which has led to this analysis. While we are fortunate to be able to afford something bigger, it wont be very easy. Not only due to the higher price in the home but also due to the higher monthly expenses.
Prices in Miami are obviously insane. Not only have housing prices increased more than anywhere else in the country but the costs to even own a home are crazy (insurance, HOA fees, etc).
Miami has always been a boom or bust city. This time might seem different with how much the city has changed since covid. It used to be a more seasonal and speculative city and now it seems way more established with the amount of companies/businesses coming.
We are finally seeing some covid boom cities under pressure. Austin is leading the country with declining rent prices as all the new construction is finally catching up with them. This is likely a good thing but can have further implications.
The question: Where do you see Miami's housing market going in 5 years?
i don't speak spanish
Are there any free parking spots near MIA airport or within the city in general? I’m planning to leave my car for about two weeks. Don’t mind if it’s outdoors/public, as long as it’s legal and won’t result in fines/towing. The cheapest I found so far is in Earlington Heights Station, but wondering if there are actually free lots.
I’m going to be living here for a couple of months and would like to meet and hangout with people who know this place. Someone to talk or drive around and see cool and eat good food here. Just overall a friendly vibe.
me & my friend are planning a trip this summer to Miami. We're both 22 & european, so I just wanna know what are the safest neighborhoods for me to look for in terms of Airbnb where should we stay? Where should we hang out if we just wanna walk around or do some shopping safely? What are the safest and the nicest beaches ; if you guys have any other safety tips in terms of what to avoid, can you walk around at night? Are there some beaches where you can chill at night too ?
