Sort of excited for having periods now

This is only my second month using a cup but I'm kinda of excited for my periods now.

I don't have to worried the first sign of blood is not going to be enough blood, causing the first tampon to be pulled out dry, the last tampon of the period isn't going to be pulled out dry. I can put it in and leave the house, and not worry about my tampon getting too soaked and leak.

I don't know why, but I never knew that a period could actually be stress free.

Correct way to insert?

I was a little nervous using the cup for the first time because almost every story I’ve heard from someone was that they couldn’t reach it/couldn’t pull it out, etc.

I tried it for my last cycle and my experience was WAY better than what I thought it would be. Got it in and out every time with ease. I keep seeing posts from other new users that are having issues and I’m wondering, how deep are you actually supposed to insert this thing?

For reference, I’m using the Saalt cup. The pink smaller one that’s recommended for new users. When I inserted mine, it’s only far up enough to where if I feel my entrance, I can feel the end of the “string thing/tab” just about poking out. The cup has been opening up and staying in place perfectly fine for me, no leaking at all. It’s not deep enough for me to not be able to reach up there and break the seal even at the rim.

Is it possible that a lot of people are having issues with grabbing it or pulling it out because they are pushing it too far up? I didn’t wanna put it up as far as a tampon applicator would push a tampon, because it’s not a tampon. I know everyone’s body is different so I’m curious as to what the rule of thumb is for this thing.

my cup hurts when i have it in now??

okay so i have the honey pot menstrual cup and i used it for about a year up until i got pregnant last october. i loved it then. i got an iud about 2 months ago and im just now getting a period again so i went to use my cup again. long story short it’s extremely uncomfortable and makes me feel almost crampy. i know for sure that it’s in correctly. should i switch brands or try something new? this is the only brand i’ve ever tried and im honestly kinda clueless when it comes to different brands of them.

Is it possible to be allergic to menstrual cups

I've been using them since 2016 with no issue- until this past year or so wherein no matter which cup I use (Including brand new ones) I experience horrific chafing and rashes between my legs.

I recently bought a different color, thinking maybe that would help.

Nope.

The burning is so bad I could cry. I've put nails through my foot at walked out the door to work ten minutes later, I spent over 24 hours on a broken leg when I was five before an adult noticed. When I say it hurts I mean it hurts.

I changed into a tampon give minutes ago and the relief was immediate.

Is it possible to be allergic to them?

Cup leaking issue

I have a usage question related to my cup. I have been using the Luna large cup and Saalt Cup since January 2024. I am loving the ease of use and regret not starting to use it earlier.

I am still encountering an issue on my heavier days (2nd and 3rd) where my cup leaks and when I pull out the cup the cup is half full but there other contents not in the cup which get dumped too. Also no leaks or anything on other medium/light days.

So my question is - Is my cup not able to handle my heavy flow with clots or I am using it wrong.

PS: I have read through this sub reddit with people experiencing something similar but none of the solutions have helped so far.

Can't pull out the cup :(

Hi everyone! First time user here... I have to stick my fingers in a pit to reach the end of the stem. However, I can't stuck my fingers in deep enough to reach the actual cup. I realize the cup didn't open all the way bc when I wiped after peeing I saw blood. So i need to take it out to try again. Any advice? :(

same cup, same fold not working now? Need advice

In 2021, I bought the Peachlife extra firm cup because I read that firm cups opened more easily, and I'd had problems with that on previous cups. For the most part, it worked great until a few months ago. Now, I'm struggling to get it to open, or it might be open but just leaking a lot. I started wondering if maybe cups get softer over several years? I'm not sure if that's something that can even happen or if there's some other reason that a very reliable cup isn't working. I'm using the same fold, so maybe I should be trying something else. Again, I'm not sure why the fold that worked would not be working. Should I just be looking for another cup? I own 1 other one (Flex cup), but I don't really like the pull tab and it sometimes leaks a little. I'm using it today after a couple failed attempts with the Peachlife cup.

Anyone have experience with a cup that stopped working after a few years? What ended up being the cause or the solution? Anyone know of another cup that opens very easily (without a lot of twisting it or pressing on it)? If I do buy another cup, I'm not sure if I should try something new or just buy the same kind again. I found it very overwhelming switching to a cup (and discs are definitely not for me), but this is still somehow easier than dealing with tampons.

Tips on removing menstrual cups

This is the second month I'm using menstrual cup and oh boy every time it's time to take the cup out, it hurtsssss. I read tons of articles saying I have to break the suction and stuff but the thing is when I pinch the base only the bottom part is getting pinched, yk? The top part stays the same and honestly I've been using the stem to pull the cup a little so it's easier for me to reach the base. And this whole time that's how I take out the cup and it hurts bc the top part of the cup is wider and my vagina hole gets stretched. Can someone pls share your experience removing the cup and if it's painful or not. And how you guys remove it. Thanks <3

Finally got a cup appropriate to my cervix hight and it's awesome

I have a high cervix and short fingers. When I started using cups it was a pain to remove, I'm talking 15+ minutes since I had to basically birth it after breaking the seal.

Today I tried for the first time a cup for higher cervix and omg its so easy to take it of. I even had to cut 3mm of the stem to fit perfectly (I always heavily relied on the stem to take it of)

It doesn't bother me, and in two minutes I was already washing my cup. Absolutely fantastic. Please follow your cervix hight and don't be afraid to get a bigger cup.

Menstrual cups for people with pain/sensitivity

Looking for advice. I had a menstrual cup for about a year that I liked for the most part because it saved money and lasted so much longer than a tampon. Long story short, I lost it. The thing is, on some days, it would really hurt to insert and remove. I have endo and vaginismus so I know this probably is why. Are there any cups that are… less thick? Idk, maybe more flexible so it isn’t as painful on the days that I’m more tight/tense?

Does the stem of the mc need to be inside also?

This is my first time using a mentrual cup. I somehow managed to insert it but i can't insert it fully. They said the stem needed to be inside but when I tried to push it more, it just won't go. Also, when removing the cup, they said that I needed to insert two fingers to remove the sunction but no matter how I tried to pull it, it won't go out. That's why I just pull it from the stem which is easy for me since the stem is still outside. Is it bad? Is there any tips on removing it?

Flex Cup

First time user. Does anyone know the long term consequences of the suction on your pelvic floor? I didn't realize how much suction would be there until I pulled the tab to see if it was placed properly. I will always try to pop the suction before removing but it does involve a bit of tugging to even reach the stem and pull (Flex cup).

Leia cup review - 35yo, 3 vaginal births, rectocele, short vagina/low cervix

I just wanna scream from the rooftops I'm so stoked on the Leia cup right now. After going through many cups and discs I had finally settled on Juju 4 which worked pretty well, not perfect but better than any other, until I had my 3rd child. just got back on my cycle last month and the Juju just wouldn't stay put, it would turn completely sideways every time I tried to wear it and pretty much just fall out. Not sure what has changed in my anatomy to cause this, possibly the pre-existing rectocele from my first birth increased in size or something? Don't know.

I came to realize I needed a softer cup that wouldn't get pushed out by the bulge in my canal from the rectocele, and PACII recommended the Leia. It's a soft cup with a firmer rim and is meant to work for women who have low cervix, prolapse, weak pelvic floor/dysfunction, and it has totally delivered. I know some people have issues getting a soft cup in but I haven't found that to be the case at all, and I just can't believe how this thing stays in place and DOESN'T LEAK. i can even poop with it in (TMI sorry lol) which was never the case with my firmer cups (Juju 4 is extremely firm).

I never knew what the point of soft vs firm cups was but now I get it and I won't be going back to firm.

The ONLY downside for me is that it doesn't have the biggest capacity but i think that generally comes with the territory when you have a low cervix. This was only an issue for me wearing it overnight the first couple nights of heavy flow. I used to have a Merula which I would wear only at night because of it's high capacity - might try to get another one of those.

So if my situation sounds like you at all definitely consider a Leia cup!!

Cannot get cup in , feel I’ve tried everything

Bought a Salt small menstrual cup a few months ago after friends had good experiences switching and I just CANNOT get it in. It's been a few months and I've tried on and off my period with different folds and no luck. I've come closest to getting it in in the shower but even then not all the way and I cannot work out what's going wrong. I've used tampons for over a decade with no issues but cannot get this cup in deep enough despite it being shorter - anyone got any ideas? I'm reluctant to try a different cup as I don't really want to spend money on another one when there's no guarantee I'll be able to get that one in either considering my struggles with this one.

Questions about the Tampax cups

Hello everyone. I saw online that tampax has menstrual cups. Does the heavy flow cup really hold a lot? On my heavy days, I use ultra tampons. What has your experience been using either size of the tampax cups? Thank you.

Why do large cups work better for me?

So, based on the sizing of most cups they say to go with the small if you haven't given birthday but any small one I've ever gotten would always leak even when I make sure it's sealed. I've recently gotten a large june cup and still have minor leaks, but they aren't nearly as bad. Why is this the case?

Menstrual disc recommendations?

I'm a beginner, menstrual cups make me nervous but I would like to try an internal product that isn't a tampon, so I am thinking a disc (with a string) would be easiest for me to start with.

Cervix is somewhere between 2-3" during period I think, never given birth, virgin, moderate to sometimes heavy flow. I have a pretty small vaginal canal but I read somewhere that my cervix would be considered high.

Also I'm open to general tips and things to keep in mind when using them. Like should I sterilize it after every removal, or after/before every period?

Sleeping in a cup

This is cycle 5 or 6 (I’ve lost count) with using my Saalt cup. I started with a small, but kept leaking a lot. So I tried the Saalt regular and it hurt to remove and was extremely difficult to break the seal. I’ve since moved on to the Saalt regular soft and it is heaven! I love not having to worry anymore about my period when I’m at work or just on the go. I’ve found my sweet spot where it is easy for me to insert and remove. I still have been sleeping in pads at night though because I’m afraid it’ll migrate up and get suctioned around my cervix and I won’t be able to remove it in the morning. Anyone have any tips for me to get over this fear? I know gravity can do its job, but I keep thinking: what if it doesn’t? Please note I have never slept in anything other than a pad when I’m on my period, so this’ll be new territory for me.

Hygiene

First off I just wanna say I love my cup! For context I had Nexplanon in for years and only needed panty liners if any period product. I got that out earlier this year and remembered how annoying tampons were so I instantly bought a Diva cup and stored it away until I got my period (first one since I was 16). It took me awhile to realize you’re supposed to fold it a specific way and then rotate it so it suctions correctly- at first I was trying to just angle it and shove it up there lol evidently I am not one to read directions and thought I’d just figure it out. After I found this subreddit and actually read the official directions I got the hang of it though. Even the other day I got my period but wasn’t prepared with my cup since my cycle is inconsistent, so for a couple days I was just using tampons and I was not having a good time. They leak so bad, don’t feel comfy, you have to change them way more often than the cup and they fall out into the toilet for me sometimes.

Anyways, I have a question about hygiene for the cup. I know the directions say to wash your hands before and after inserting/removing the cup. Usually while I’m just changing it out I’ll wash my hands, take the cup out and give it a good rinse with warm water and the Honey Pot foaming wash and then reinsert and rewash my hands. It doesn’t fill up even close to all the way for me so I’ve just been doing it once when I wake up and then before bed too. I’ve never boiled mine because I would need to wait until no one is home because I don’t know how to explain myself lol. I also don’t know how often you’d even boil it? I know for the Diva cup at least they say to boil it before your first use but obviously I missed that. Is it once before your period starts and then once after your period or just if something happens ie drop it in the toilet? Also is the Honey Pot wash ok to keep using and is washing twice a day good? Oh and I make sure to keep it in the pouch when not in use. Thanks in advance, I just wanna make sure I’m doing everything right.

Need help?

I want to try mentrual cup (I've had a few dry run but was too scared to let go of the stem) As It'a too difficult for me to insert two fingers and pinch the base to remove the suction + the cup rides high up in the vagina where at once my fingers can't even reach. My vaginal muscles are tight so they don't allow me to insert more than one finger when I'm wearing the menstrual cup

can’t get it in

Hi everyone !

i’ve posted here before with a similar issue.. i’ve gotten use to using tampons over my last few cycles like some of you suggested and thought id try the menstrual cup again but i still can’t seem to get to get it in

i’ve tried a couple different folds i found online but still none of them help.. i think part of my issue is the cup is bigger than a standard tampon applicator so just struggling with the size. and also i don’t want to let it pop open to early whilst its only half in but im struggling with holding the fold down..

i’m thinking it could also be the cup, im using a mooncup size B. is this good for a first time user ?

any advice would be greatly appreciated as i’d really love to be able to use menstrual cups, i understand it can take some time to get the hang of but i can’t even get it in to begin with and jsut end up using a pad or tampon

Is it bad to use your cup right after boiling?

Ive been doing this for some time now not questioning it but could i cause myself issues putting my cup in while its hot? I never considered it until today and have been panicking ever since. When i take it out the pot i usually hold it in my hands for a min or two before insert and ik my hands have a high heat tolerance and the heat doesnt hurt after insertion

Extremely disappointed in Saalt

I had my IUD removed several months ago and got myself all set up with their full menstrual cup set up. I was able to use the steamer once and it broke. When I flip the switch to turn it off, it shuts off immediately. Now I've gone three months without a steamer. They are refusing to send me a new one and they won't refund me. I've emailed a bunch and they're ignoring me completely.

Just a warning to anyone considering making a purchase from there - customer service has been terrible and their social media team won't respond either. The steamer was cheap looking when it arrived but I thought I was just being judgemental. Wish I had sent it back that day.

Why was it way easier to insert on a dry run than when I'm on my period??

Disclaimer i am using a disc, but i feel like those that have had this issue will experience it too with a cup. So as soon as i got it i did a dry run with it, put it inside just with lube and even on the very first time i was able to get it in super quick and easy. It sort of just scooped up itself once i started inserting it. However now that i am on my period things feel... tighter?? And i felt like it was blocked at a point where the end of the disc was just peeking out of my vagina. Like, it is a big fight to push it in, even painful sometimes.

Why is it so different now? Any tips on insertion please?

And btw i just tried reinserting it now sitting almost of the front part of the toilett, to mimick laying down on my back, and it was a bit easier, i feel like i got it in the right place now. But it is nowhere as easy as it should be...

Edit: i am now getting some cramps after reinserting the disc... i really wanted to avoid this 😭 its not too painful but very constant

Always leaking!!

I’ve been a cup user for over 6 years now. I’ve had two c sections, and after my second c section 1.5 years ago I can not for the life of me get my menstrual cup to not leak! I have tried Saalt cup, Diva cup, and Flex cup. I have tried different sizing as well because I know before/after kids can be different. Any advice? I’m losing my mind, I really don’t want to use pads or tampons.

Short pain after urination with the cup out

Hi together,

I just want to task if someone experiences the same symptom. I wore cups for about 4 cycle now and needed to buy a new cup for the first 3 cycles. After that I think I found the right one and used this for this cycle.

Problem is, it seems like the cup create a pressure on my bladder and I cannot pee normally with it in, so sometimes I just take it out for peeing.

Yesterday evening I also did the same, but suddenly I feel a short pain after urination, then it dissapear right after that. In the night I felt a huge urge to pee but everytime I go to the toilette, I have the feeling that I cannot empty my bladder completely and the urge to pee also didnt go away. I could not sleep for hours because of that and decided to drink more water. After an hour or so I can pee normally, but the short pain / weird feeling is still there, just not so bad anymore and it often just dissapear right after I done peeing.

Had someone the same experiences? I dont think I have UTI because the symptoms do not match. Should I buy another cup or just keep using it for the next cycle?

first try ever, will not pop

i tried using a cup for the first time today and cannot get it to unfold and seal. it’s not a small crease either, the entire side of the cup is pushed in and it’s snug against me like that. the cup is the smallest size i could buy and i can’t fit my fingers in with it. i saw someone say that when they use theirs it doesn’t pop immediately so they leave it and it does over time, tried that. it never unfolded but at some point i did randomly feel it moving like it was trying to. i tried using lube, i tried rotating the cup, i ran it under cold water. i also think it might not be deep enough because simply nothing fits up there, the cup or my fingers. do i simply not have the anatomy to use it or is there something i can do?

How do I fix this

I've finally figured out why my cup keeps leaking, and it's because I haven't been inserting the cup towards my cervix, but here's the thing idk how to know where my cervix is. I've read some other posts but I can barely fit one or two fingers inside without the cup and it kinda hurts to go further in to check where my cervix is. When the cup is in I can't really tell if it's on my cervix or not. Could someone please help me on figuring out how to properly put the cup so it lies exactly on the cervix to prevent leaks. (I'm a still a teen if that makes any difference) I just wanted to mention that it's a hit or miss because sometimes it actually doesn't leak and I notice that I usually leak only on the 1st and 2nd day out of 5 days, can the cervix just shift like that???

Cora disc cleaning recommendations - Nut allergy

Hi I hope someone can help me. I got a Cora disc and it came with a cleanser - I noticed it has coconut oil in it. I have a tree nut allergy so that’s a no go. I reached out to Cora and they said they have no alternative suggestions.

I see some conflicting information online so I thought I would ask. What can I use to clean the disc? I am going to be boiling it at the end of the week, thinking more between emptying and reusing.
