Gaming in Mauritania part 2?

Hey guys! A little while back, I asked a question on here about video games in Mauritania and I got an idea about gaming there, but my other question is: what years did gaming come to Mauritania?

Was it before 2000?

Was it in the 2000-2003 period?

Or was it later?-(2004-2005)

Thanks for your answers!!!

English speaking cab driver in Nouakchott or Nouadhibou?

Hi, could anyone share a number for a cab driver? Not looking for complete fluency but if anyone has a cab driver they’ve had a good experience with, that would also be great

Thanks

What do you remember about the genocide in Mauritania?

Anyone old enough to remember this period of time? Or had their parents speak about it? It’s not something the wider world often speak about.

Mauritania evisa - under review over a week

Hello, I'm an American planning to visit Mauritania on February 9th, arriving by air.

I applied for an evisa one week ago today, but my evisa has been "under review" since then. Anyone else had this issue? Should I try again? Thanks!

Day Trip from Atar to Chinguetti and Ouadane

Travelling to Mauritania in October and wondering if there’s any groups or ways to do a day trip from Atar to Chinguetti and possibly Ouadane? How reliable would be hiring/how easy is it to hire a private driver for the day?

Going through our itinerary and with what I’ve found in transportation timing/options getting to and visiting both may not work so trying to look at options. We’ll be coming from Terjit prior to.

TIA!

Seeking knowledge in Mauritania

السلام عليكم to all my brothers and sisters, may Allah bless you all

I’m 19 from the UK (England) and I’m in college and finishing in around 5 months or so in sha Allah. My goal in life and the only thing I love is seeking knowledge and my dream is to leave the country and seek knowledge. I am trying to earn money and save as much as I can to go my parents will not really fund me much because they are not too interested in this and want me to just get a job and study in university worldly studies.

From my research I’ve narrowed it down and I want to go to Egypt or Mauritania I have seen people speaking about different countries to seek knowledge in Reddit and decided to make an account so I can ask for any advice and tips.

How much would it cost to study in Mauritiana monthly if I’m alone and on a budget , and where shall I study? I’d have studied Arabic for 10 months with a teacher around 2 days a week 1-1hr a lesson my understanding is Improving and ok but my speaking needs some more work. I was also wondering if anyone can help me when I get to Mauritania help me around for a short while because I know no one there.

If anyone would like to give advice and tips and help this will be beneficial.

music/vinyl/tape stores in Mauritania

I will travel to Mauritania (mainly Nouakchott and Nouadhibou) in a few days and I'm curious if there are any music shops to visit that sell vinyl or tapes?

There seemed to be a store called "Saphire D'Or". But unfortunately, according to internet posts, its operator Ahmed Vall passed away a few years ago.

Iron Ore Train, what else to do/plan "nearby"?

I want to ride the iron ore Train, bug idk it kinda feels a bit to much effort to just fly there to only ride that train. Like cool but that's much for me...

Now I want to look out for other things to do there or planning a longer trip with maybe even more backpacking through nearby countries?

Idk I could've really find other great spots nearby and kinda need recommendations to get a great trip together to not just fly down there for a train ride...

  • Recommended market in Nouakchott to pick up supplies (blankets, water, basic travel amenities etc.)?
  • Hotel recommendations for late night arrival in Nouakchott?
  • Overnight recommendations for Terjit?
  • How easy is it to pick up a taxi in places like Atar?
  • Is there a bus route from Nouadhibou to Nouakchott?

The Iron Ore Train Ban: A Journey Too Wild to Tame

Mauritania’s iconic iron ore train, one of the longest and heaviest in the world, has long captured the imagination of adventure seekers. Stretching over 2 kilometers and traversing the harsh desert from Zouérat to Nouadhibou, this journey promises both thrill and unparalleled scenery. However, in 2024, Mauritanian authorities imposed restrictions on tourists riding the train, citing safety concerns such as dehydration, falls, and injuries.

Despite the ban, adventurous travelers continue to find ways to experience this legendary ride, often with help from local communities. The allure lies in the raw excitement, cultural significance, and the chance to witness the Sahara in its purest form.

For those tempted to ride, preparation and respect for the rules are crucial. While the train remains a symbol of Mauritania’s strength and industry, there are plenty of safer ways to experience the country’s vibrant culture and landscapes.

Mauritanien chilli paste - recipe?

Hey all,

I had some super tasty chilli paste served with Thieboudienne while in Atar. My host couldn't tell me the name of the paste but said that it's fairly common in Mauritania. Colour is dark (green-ish), had a decent kick to it and a slightly sour taste (potentially fermented?) Anyone know what that might be?

Thanks!

Local guides

I want to visit Mauritania this year but want to feel safe and see the best parts of the country. Where can I find local guides that will show me around for a few days to a week? I want to see the country’s culture, ride the ore train, etc. but want to respect their customs and everything while I do it and not be an annoying tourist. I went to Morocco a few years ago and had a guide who drove us around the country and stopped in all the best cities and took us to try all the best foods. I was hoping for a similar experience. Cost isn’t super important right now, I’d rather spend more to have a fun, informative guide that will keep us safe as well!
