How good is computer science

Hello so i am really interested in studying ICT as my major next year but I keep seeing videos of people joking about computer science saying people can’t find jobs nor the income is good. So my question is is programming or graphic design wanted in Libya? Like is it a good field to work in?. And is it true the AI will take over?cuz I feel like it won’t take over in Libya this quickly And is it good for females to work in? And is there any specific stuff needed to land a good job and is cybersecurity good thing to study

Strange cover of the song طق العود

hi! long time lurker, first time poster, some friends of mine made a strange cover of the libyan song
طق العود by محمد حسن
I personally like it, but it's probably not to everyone's taste, anyway I wanted to share it here because they suck at sharing, and I would love to hear what others think, I'm personally also a big fan of traditional libyan music and it was a bit shocking for me to hear this song in this style

OEM car parts

Salam wa alaykum everyone. Wondering how I would get car parts that are new or slightly used. My biggest hope would parts from factory/manufacturer. Is there somewhere on Facebook to order them or look? Or is there a company in Libya whether Tripoli or elsewhere that you might know of to get parts such as fenders and bumpers and door panels. I’d like to restore a few vehicles.

Thanks in advance everyone, all the best.

help a girl out real quick? i feel clueless !

1st day in Tunis and I've already learnt FROM TUNISIANS TOO, tunisians hate libyans (not to steryotype tho so i'll say majority).

I had a half-tunisian half-egyptian friend of mine tell me about this around a year ago but I took it with a grain of salt at the time and never really bothered to know more on why they do.

Please don't be, or try ur hardest not to be biased answering these:

  1. Why?
  2. How? Because I cant distinguish a Tunisian and a person from Libya, tripoli when they're talking to save my life, apart from she/he pronouns being switched up, they sound so damn similar. Wouldn't the similarity of communication be of benefit or am I trippin?
  3. Is it rivalry? Political affiliations? Historical enemies? Religious values?

I also intended to ask this on the Libyan sub reddit rather than the Tunisian's for a reason. However tho, latley this sub reddit has been filling up with alot of cynical and pessimistic people. The few bad apples are forming up. Thats a whole other discussion tho:).

Wa'alikum assalam.

choosing compony as a student

I'm second year student at petroleum institute and my major is welding. and I'm very confused about choosing companies, to be honest I'd like to choose mellitah but I heard that it's very crowded and you will wait a long time until you work. Is there anyone had experiences with oil companies to give any advice?🤔

Looking for a new job

Hello everyone!

I hope you're all doing well,

I know the tech field in Libya is still growing and offers limited opportunities, but I thought I'd reach out to see if anyone can help! I'm currently working in a good, well paid position but I'm looking for a new adventure!

I'm currently looking for a new opportunity as a QA Engineer, with a strong focus on Manual Testing. I have over 7 years of experience in quality assurance, backed by a background in web development and project management. In addition, I've co-founded mobile applications in the past! I was a speaker at events for GDC and Women Techmakers, and volunteered at many other tech events.

My skills include extensive experience in API testing (both manual and automated) using Postman, as well as expertise in web, UI/UX, performance, and mobile app testing. I’m also proficient in report writing and have experience with Jira and Trello for project tracking. Additionally, I have foundational knowledge of Appium and Selenium.

If you know of any remote or on-site QA engineer positions, system analyst, or project manager where my experience could be a good match, I’d be grateful if you could share them with me. Any suggestions or feedback are also welcome!

You can also check out my blog to learn more about my journey in testing: https://testing-journey.hashnode.dev/

Thank you for your time!

International airport discussion

Salam good people. I’m curious about the actual updates to the international airport that is supposedly being built. The news in the west about it is quite limited and suggests many hold ups. Does anyone know anything about when it might be finished and what that could potentially mean for the somewhat near future of Libya?

I believe the security at that airport will rival the United States in terms of strictness which may cause a lot of hassles but I believe there may be some merit to having it that way. Potentially making advances in tourism from other countries and the ability for cheaper travel for both Libyans and foreigners.

What do you all think?

Potential of tourism in Libya

There are some really beautiful places in Libya both west and east, with the Mediterranean climate as well as the historic sites, as well as the deserts, forests, mountains. Libya has the potential but how can we realise it?

Birth Records

I am a Libyan-American and I am trying to trace back my family tree and get ahold of birth/death records. I am having trouble with this since the usual platforms such as FamilySearch and Ancestry have little to no Libyan records and I do not have a way to contact my Libyan side of the family nor does my dad have the best memory of his family line.

Is there any way I can access these records from outside of Libya? I haven’t been able to find anything online. I’ve also reached out to Italian registries which may have information from the births within my family while Libya was under colonial rule but they need information that I do not have on my grandfather.

If anyone has any help by providing some sources or is even able to access records from inside Libya themselves to help me out that would be great

Here's one of the reasons why it's hard for the new generation to maintain/have a friendship/job

when you have a country that depends so much on cars for transport, then you will exclude many people who don't have access to drive/buy cars people from going out of the house

one of these people are mostly teenagers, young people so they will be trapped at home most of time I will give you an example just imagine you are a 16 years old guy/girl and you have a friend who doesn't live in the same neighborhood of yours and you want to meet him so the first thing you gonna do is to go to your parents to drive you there at you friends house so now let's talk about the problems in that

First of all teenagers don't like to be dependent on their parents so most likely you are gonna cancel the idea that your mom/father gonna drive you

Maybe your parents will say no i don't have time for you Or maybe the parents are out they are not in home Or even your family don't have a car

So after a while you will see him less frequently and overtime like always a relationship ends because of the long distance

Now let's talk about jobs What if you are young guy and you are broke and you cann't buy/drive a car and you wanna make some money for yourself there're two ways this situation gonna go

1- one of the job requirements is to have (مواصلات) so you will not gonna get a job and you your are gonna stay broke

2- you get the job but you will take (سيارة خاصة) or (كورسة) now let's do the math The average salary for job in private sector in libya is 800LYB and the common price for taking (سيارة خاص) or (كورسة) is 5LYB

Now you're gonna pay 5LYB going to work and another 5LYB for going back home The total is 10LYB

10LYB × 30 = 300

your salary is 800

800 - 300 = 500 monthly 🙂

That's awesome now you can take the 500 and buy a chocolate 🍫

That's capitalism where the people who cars will have chance to live ok(kinda), and for the people who don't they are gonna live miserably

2011 NATO-led coalition ‘military intervention’ in Libya

As Salamu Alaykum to you all,

I’m currently preparing to write my dissertation project and I’ve chosen to focus on military/humanitarian intervention and specifically highlighting its failures. I’m also from a Muslim county in Africa which suffered at the hands of the US during a ‘military intervention’ so I’m passionate about this topic. I’ve been researching more into the history of Libya and keeping up with the current events and I’m quite set on dedicating this project to the Libyan people and what they have endured.

My bestfriend is Libyan and she has told me about this forum and I wanted to ask if any of you have any interesting articles, news, papers, documentaries or anything of relevance to add to my knowledge on the history and current situation in Libya. I pray that Libya redevelops itself and becomes the prosperous country it once was, Ameen. I plan on publishing my Dissertation once it’s completed, In Sha Allah, so I will definitely post it on here too!

What the heck is this place?

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

While browsing the map, I found this place and, since I'm an extraordinarily curious guy, I got many questions about this:
What the heck is this place? Are these used but working cars? Or faulty cars? And if they are faulty cars then how come they are parked and arranged in an amazing way? Does anyone have a video of the place and the process of transportation?

Female solo travellers

Salam👋, I’m Libyan living in abroad this is going to be my first time visiting since 2014. I heard mixed opinions about female travelling I’m wondering if any of it is true. I’m travelling to Benghazi November 26 with my mom without a mahram. Is it true females can’t leave the country without mahram? You can come but can’t leave? Someone told me I need a signed slip form from a mahram?
I also heard I need “موافقه امنيه" what’s that? What’s it for? They told me to make sure you’re not wanted by the police or someone. I also got told, that it’s okay for females to solo travel as long as they fill out a form at the airport? Can anyone help, I don’t know much about the laws neither does my mom.
