I lost a brain cell💀 (from watching a movie)
If I’m being honest I only know how to say hello, bye and my name in Chinese but I want to learn but at the same time I want to stay consistent with one and not get to confused after all. The only reason why I want to learn Chinese because I been obsessed with Chinese culture and want to go to china one day and I’m not bashing them or anything but I see how they are to foreigners and even as a black person, but I don’t mind I just want to learn about their culture and interact with one another.
Hi! I want to find mandarin TV series that I can rewatch a lot. I basically learned English from watching sitcoms, but can't find something in mandarin to watch over and over again. For example, enjoyed 都挺好, 三十而已 and 去有风的地方, but I don't think I can watch those on repeat like 30 Rock or Brooklyn99. Does anyone have any recs?
I would love to learn Mandarin to connect more with people globally and maybe even at home. The language is so different than English or Spanish, which I’ve studied for a few years. Any tips on where to start? I have auditory processing issues so it can be incredibly difficult for me to have conversations sometimes.
Also my pronunciation needs serious work! If anyone wants to learn together, even better. 😊
Hi! I want to learn Mandarin as my boyfriend is Chinese. He doesnt want me taking classes as he believes he can just teach me. I want to be conversational at least and will try to learn by myself but I definitely need resources. Can anyone recommend some books that can help me self learn? Thank you!
Greetings, friends! We will have an online card game event for Mandarin-English exchange/speaking practice! The event is free and open to all levels. A native Mandarin speaker will join the event, so it's a fantastic opportunity!
If you're interested to join us, just leave me a comment here and I'll DM you later to exchange details.
TIME: Saturday, January 25th @ 8am New York City time
DURATION: 1 hour
*We also welcome native speakers of Mandarin to play with us because we think Mandarin-English exchange is very entertaining and effective.
**We plan to play at the same time on the fourth Saturday of every month. So if you're not free this time, but you'd like to play in the future, just let me know and I'll put you on our invite list.
Feel free to ask. I'll be back and reply.

I can't be on devices while at work but I often have downtime between tasks. I'd love to spend that free time working through a mandarin copybook or work book. I am a total beginner learning so any recommendations I would appreciate.
Thanks!
I tried translating it and it said it means, Sweet potatoes have turned into potatoes, but I’m not quite sure what that means?
Hey yall,
I'm a beginner learning Mandarin and so far have been using the HelloChinese app and enjoying it a lot. However I can already tell I am not picking up the characters and so wanted to find a tool that will focus on that specifically. I have done a bit of googling and found these two options, does anyone have experience with either of them? And advice on which to choose?
I’ve been learning mandarin for about 6 years now. Having taught myself I feel very much still a beginner I also do taiji and qigong with two separate excellent teachers. However, I’m really bothered by thier lack of pronouncing the tones when they use Chinese terms in the practice. For example Bai hui gets pronounced Bar hui with no particular tone. I have the utmost respect for my teachers and don’t feel I can ask them about this without seeming disrespectful. I sense that they don’t think the tones are important. I guess I’m looking for verification here and maybe a diplomatic approach to talk to them about it or ignore it What do you think?
Hey everyone! I’m in Virginia but want to start learning Mandarin but very wary of the schools. Anyone have suggestions of good language schools I can look in to?
Thank you!
I've been off and on learning Mandarin for a about 5 years, and spent a lot of the time on apps like duolingo.
After about 3 years, I realised that I had made minimal progress.
So I started thinking about the way I learn. And I started developing tools to help myself based on what works for me.
I'd love some feedback on the stuff I have put together. Here are some links; hopefully, they are all self-explanatory, but if you have any questions, please let me know.

Does anyone know of any Mandarin mini-dramas with Mandarin subtitles that can be downloaded in text form for study?
